We visited here with our 4 dogs (which are well behaved and sit under the table) for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere is lovely and it gives a really welcoming good feel. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful, the dog biscuits and water area is a great touch. The roast dinner was outstanding, we eat out a lot so we do say we’re possibly ‘food snobs’ but we were really impressed by this place! It gets the ‘best roast’ we’ve had. The vegetables, potatoes, meat was all delicious. We had pudding after, treacle sponge and brownie both were really good! Can’t wait to visit again.. highly recommend!

Not sure what has happened to the Litton, went to eat there a few years ago and it was quite good...now its very over-priced for what you get. I ordered a veggie burger which consisted of 1 miserable piece of lettuce, 1 tiny tomato and a cardboard tasting 'veggie/bean burger' in a basic bun. Thats it, no love given to this food at all, could easily be remedied with some decent fillings and not be so penny pinching! Chips had to be orerded as an extra and didn't come with the main. Disappointing.

I have definitely reviewed this place before but Google disagrees, so this is a re-review rather than an edit and addition. TLDR - this place is fantastic. It was five years ago when we came here and it still is now. It’s a proper pub in that the rooms and atmosphere is cosy and welcoming with portions and welcome being very generous , but it’s high quality in terms of the ingredients and quality of what is served. The value is also superb in terms of pricing considering how good the food is and the high quality drinks menu on offer. Fabulous to eat, drink or stay. We do recommend and we have returned.

Went for a weekend away with my wife. We didn't know what to expect as we picked farily randomly but I have to say the place is briliiant and the staff are even better. Its a proper olde worlde pub with wooden beams, stone walls, low ceilings. It has a several sitting areas including terrces and a whiskey bar. The food and drinks are very good, espectially the cocktails! The staff were so attentive, we chatted to Ollie at the bar for most of one eveneing as he made us our superb cocktails and on another evening when we couldn't get a taxi to another pub he dropped us off there! We stayed in a lovely large room with sofa bed if you needed it, it also had a private terrace (although you can see onto the terrace from the carpark). It's a great location for adventuring off into the Mendip hills. We had a lovely walk straight from the pub. Aboslutely recommend.

As we love this restaurant my son and daughter in law took us for Sunday lunch. The service is wonderful and our waiter Richard was very helpful even when one of our mains went missing. This was very quickly resolved and with added meat. The menu has a good selection; something for everyone. If you are going for the 3 meat Sunday lunch beware it is huge. I just love the lamb. As there are now less tables obviously book early this restaurant is very popular.

We booked into the Litton on a local friend's recommendation. It is a restaurant with rooms ( a self styled "Boutique hotel" - a term which usually makes me cringe). The room with King size bed way comfortable and quiet, a little overpriced for the facilities and size, but there are only 8 rooms, and the alternative is a fair drive home. The restaurant is definitely worth it, Excellent, friendly service and a reasonable choice of well cooked, locally sourced produce.

We planned to meet here last night for a drink but changed our mind and wanted food, and despite a very busy (socially distanced) pub we were found a table to dine. Everything from the decor, ambience, food, hand gel, service were just lovely. Most of all though the measures taken to make us feel Covid secure were the best I have seen. We will be back many times and are delighted to have found this gem.

Having tried another Gastro Pub only days before where the food was average, the service poor and Covid protocol close to non existent we frankly booked the Litton with tentative to low expectations.Thankfully how wrong we were. The service was prompt, attentive and pleasant. The food was exceptional, but most importantly we felt safe with table service only and well thought out Covid procedures. Sadly we were only in the area for a week otherwise this would be our go to pub/restaurant of choice.

Walked to The Litton for breakfast this morning, as we did last Sunday and have often done before without booking. It's always been lovely. This morning we were turned away and not even offered coffee because we hadn't booked. Very disappointed! For local friends who also do this and drop in for coffee, we need some clarity please! Are you now only serving breakfast to those who have booked rooms, because there were a lot of empty tables this morning. Do we also have to book for coffee? Hope you can explain this. Thank you.

We visited twice recently while on holiday in the area both times on a Tuesday. It’s a pretty pub and we felt safe and distanced inside. The first visit was great and the food delicious. The second visit was stillgood but we waited an hour for food and that was a 17.30 booking so we thought slightly ahead of peak dinner time. It’s possible that this was in part due to the “Eat out to help out” offer and it being busier than expected. It was also fabulous weather so maybe some opportunistic beer garden diners??? We did feel this was pretty slow but did enjoy our meal. The booking process online was very efficient.

This was once a lovely country pub that drew very many customers from a wide area.During the late 1980's, there was a cult known as 'The Yuppies' who thought that everyone was beneath them. The way this pub works these days seems to be reflecting that narrow minded, 'channelled' type of thinking!Instead of being the large, welcoming country pub that it once was, it's now chosen to pretend that it's some sort of 'corporate establishment' within a city centre. There are many, much nicer pubs around the Mendip Hills area of Somerset that do much nicer food.

We chose The Litton as our first lunch out after easing of Covid restrictions. We’d visited before and loved the atmosphere. We were greeted at the door by a member of staff, and asked to use the hand sanitizer. We were shown to our table and given single use menus and drinks orders taken. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, it felt safe with plenty of space between tables. Drinks arrived promptly, with lots of staff around to replenish whenever required. The food was fab! Every mouthful delicious, and served with a smile! Would really recommend this place for a casual lunch, or something more formal.

We chose the Litton as it was roughly mid way between us in Devon and son who lives in Oxford. this was our first meet up and also our first occasion eating out since the start of the C-19 pandemic. We booked on line - very easy to do and very efficient too. After driving up from Devon we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table - we chose to eat inside as it was a bit overcast, however we were given the option of eating outside if we wished. Our son slightly delayed in traffic so was a little late arriving, however the staff were very understanding regarding this and allowed us plenty of time to order once he arrived. We chose different items from the menu, all of us deciding to have three courses. I myself started with a pigeon dish which was served on beetroot and with nuts and blackberries - absolutely wonderful and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For my main I chose the Market Fish Chowder with Mussels and Sea Vegetables - another stunning and tasty dish. To finish I had the orange parfait - again another super tasty and very well presented dish.Throughout our visit the staff were excellent and made our visit very enjoyable. Suitable precautions were in place due to C-19, but these were not over powering and were managed well, meaning we hardly noticed anything different from a normal visit. The price for all three meals plus drinks was very reasonable.Although just under 2 hours drive from home, we will certainly consider visiting this wonderful location for further meals in the future, and would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending The Litton to anybody. 10 out of 10 from us.

I had been here a few weeks ago and enjoyed a very good meal, so to experience a really poor Sunday lunch was a major letdown. We ordered 2 roasts and a veggie burger. Worryingly, only 5 minutes after placing the order our food arrived. Each dish was lukewarm. The roast pork was thickly cut and tasteless. Watery gravy, a stuffing ball that had seen better days and a separate cauliflower cheese which while hot, was the same consistency as the gravy. We had two attempts at ordering tap water but this never arrived.I ate 3 mouthfuls before deciding the food really didn't warrant the effort of chewing. So, 15 minutes after being seated in the restaurant I was asking for the bill (the rest of my party had given up fairly quickly on their dishes too). The Manager explained that our order had been combined with that of two very large tables. I'm uncertain as to whether we ended up with someone else's food. No matter, the food was a major disappointment and we won't be going back.

Booked to come for Sunday lunch, unfortunately didn’t even make it into the building as the car park was completely full. With no overflow car park. For such a busy establishment you would think they would try and sort out a bigger car park or overflow? I’ve been here before and my friend and I had to park a mile away and walk. That was fine because it was August but mid December when it’s cold and chucking down with rain isn’t doable. Thoroughly disappointing

The great thing about The Litton is that the owner Sally quite simply does everything to the highest standard that she can imagine – from the building refurbishment to the food and service. Today I had what was probably the best value Sunday lunch that I have ever had anywhere in the country. I phoned mid-morning to book because the website indicated that all tables were booked until 4.15pm. I was squeezed in at a small bar table for 1pm and before long five more people were lunching around the last small bar table. In spite of being packed (there were about 50 cars in the car park), the place seemed to run like clockwork. I had my food and drinks by 1.10pm!

We went to The Litton on a Friday evening for a 70th birthday. There were 17 of us so we had to pre order our food which was not a problem. The pub itself is beautifully decorated and refurbished and whilst being large enough to seat over 100 people (maybe more) it has enough nooks and crannies to give most tables a degree of privacy. The service was excellent and a good selection of beers were on offer at reasonable prices. The food was very good and varied albeit quite expensive for a pub. 5 of us had the 10oz sirloin which was £23 (£18.50 at Pasture in Bristol for the same steak) but, I must say it is probably the best tasting and perfectly cooked steak I have ever tasted outside a proper steak restaurant and better than some of them. My wife had baked a cake for her mums birthday and the staff were more than accommodating and brought the cake out with warm plates and a smile. Well done to the Litton, definitely worth a trip.

Our party enjoyed vegetarian burger and fish and chips but too much batter after first course, and same fish just larger portion. Mussels quite small. Pork dish quite expensive for what was on plate. Overall not very impressed with food and quite surprised how busy and popular it was

We were looking for somewhere different for an anniversary stay and found The Litton on Somerset Hotel website , looked interesting so booked a room for the night and a table for dinner. The website booking was easy and confirmed very quickly and a separate email to confirm dinner reservation. We stopped in nearby Wells and checked in just after 3. There are 2 car parks the biggest is at the front which must be on the main road, our sat have took us to the rear. Very quiet location all you can here is the running water from the brook. Friendly greeting, you checkin at the bar . We were shown to our room on the first floor looking out to the rear of the hotel. It was named The Luturne, well appointed with a really comfy bed with crisp sheets , a good shower and lovely vaulted ceilings. My only issue was that the lighting was so dim, even in the bathroom , making it very difficult to put on make up etc the room despite not having the heating on was very warm. Nothing was too much trouble all of the staff were excellent both at dinner and breakfast and were happy to chat about the history of The Litton. We had a few drinks in the bar , the wine list offers a good selection and even a vegan choice. The bar area is very dog friendly, and there are a couple of separate rooms and a small whiskey bar. The menu was not vast but offered some daily specials, the sticky pork special was nice and offered good flavours it probably could have done with being on a small plate with a small salad rather than a bowl. The battered goats cheese was good. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection with some really tasty chips, the venison ragu was very tasty. A lovely evening, after a good night’s sleep , it was so lovely and quiet more food awaited in the form of breakfast. Non guests can also come in for breakfast and there is a good choice all cooked to order. The eggs benedict was just enough , the sausage brioche was massive 3 huge tasty sausages. Good coffee no room for anything else but the next table’s bacon and maple syrup pancakes looked really good. A lovely stay with great service from start to finish.

I visited Litton 3 times now. Me and my friends go for walk in mendips as it’s mid point for all of us to meet and we always book table here. Never been dissapointed with food or the service. Decor is nice, they are really dog friendly and food is always really good plus very good selection to choose from. Couldn’t fault it. Always pleasure to come back to....

Did what it said on the tin- AA 5 star inn. Super room with very comfy bed, excellent shower and no noise from the pub. Staff, without exception, pleasant, helpful and well trained. Good food for a gastropub with prompt and efficient service despite being busy. Great for a quiet weekend away.

We took the family for lunch as we'd enjoyed the food and ambience so much last time we visited. The sun shone and we sat outside. My daughter and I agreed to share. We ordered fish with triple cooked chunky chips and a goats cheese and red onion marmalade sandwich. The sandwich comes unusually with the bread toasted although it isnt squashed together like a toastie. It was delicious and with the coleslaw and salad more than enough for one.

It was our anniversary trip away for a day and night and we wanted non formal but quality with a relaxed feel in a nice location and a room with a view that was away from noise. The Litton had it all.

This is essentially an overpriced pub, very well styled with funky furniture and different seating areas.

Came here on bank holiday Monday evening for dinner, the car park was completely full and there’s no overflow so we had to park down the road in a lay-by and walk up. Took ages to be served at the bar for drinks, not a great start. Once served we walked out to the garden and chose our food, if you eat outside you have to go back inside to place your order which I think is really strange, there should be someone outside all the time to take orders. Our starter came fairly quick which was great as we then had to wait 40 minutes for our mains to come, by then it was cold outside and we had to come back in. Food was really well cooked, only downside was that the portion was slightly too small for the price. Ordered desserts which took 15 minutes to come which being a pastry chef myself is way too long to wait, the pastry on the tart was too thick and the sorbet had just melted all over the plate. The menu also stated it came with a chocolate shard which my dessert came without. My friends chocolate mousse was in a strange glass and was thick and hard. Took too long to be cleared and ended up going to the bar to pay. Overall service was PAINFULLY slow, young inexperienced servers who just gathered at the bar to chat... won’t be coming back I’m afraid which is a shame as it’s local and seemed so promising.

This pub is decorated beautifully and in a gorgeous surrounding. We eaten here once before and had a great meal but felt the service wasn’t brilliant.

We had an excellent meal here. The surroundings were fabulous, and the decor was very individual. Even the toilets were distinctive!

Went for an impromptu evening meal midweek. Sat in garden, church bells ringing in the background. Rapid service (15 mins) fish and chips plus veg burger. Tasty food, good value. Also had warming winter lunches here in front of the log fire after a cold bike ride over from Bristol.

Went for a family meal last night. Got a warm welcome at the bar and were taken straight to our table. Table service was unfriendly (staff were too busy) drinks came fairly quickly. Sauvignon Blanc was poor, but dry cider was very good. Jug of water with cucumber was nice. Ordered cheesy garlic bread to share which came in about 15 minutes. Cheese was tasteless (Cheddar is just down the road!) and there was no garlic to be found: an easy dish that was bland and disappointing. Ordered mussels and chips as a main, but again it was tasteless, the liquor had no flavour at all; the mussels were good quality and well cooked though. Vegetarian pasta was good and chicken risotto was okay. Overall, food and service seemed to lack passion and attention to detail. A nice venue, which unfortunately doesn’t walk the walk.

Very disappointed with standard of food. Had a main salad which was basically chopped ingredients thrown into a bowl with some jar pesto as an added thought. No thought about flavourings. Chips were made from poor potato and cod in batter was flimsy. The pudding (cookie dough)was something you'd buy in Aldi and heat up. Will never eat there again until I hear chef standards have improved. Delightful serving staff however.
