Arrived at the cosy pub with a warm welcome from friendly staff. Saturday evening dinner with friends, ordered Bangers & Mash, Sirloin steak, Ham egg & chips followed by pudding......Delicious!! Popped in the following morning for a Full English, which was superb. We shall be back. Thank you.

Very surprised Saturday night and just about empty at 8pm. The staff are lovely sat down with menus and told 3 of the mains were sold out, which is OK but not extensive menu to start with so left with a choice of 3 or 4 mains.Food price reasonable. We had steak and chips. Dessert was sticky toffee but looked more like a ginger sponge...So overall the place is great inside now, and as I said staff were lovely, but I genuinely feel the food was just OK...

Have enjoyed the excellent real ales since reopening and looked forward to eating. We were not disappointed, there is a good selection of ‘pub grub’ meals and lighter meals at reasonable prices. Food was served promptly, was nice and hot and we did not leave hungry. This is a genuine old country pub with a good atmosphere and friendly staff - well done Bernie and team!!

Finally, another proper pub in the area, one that will sell food sometime in August once the kitchen is complete..but.... it will be a pub that sells food,.. NOT a restaurant that sells drinks... Bernie the landlord understands that to build community support for his business, he needs to provide a community social hub, the bar is cosy and traditional... I am pleased to have been there at the beginning, this pub will be a roaring success. 3 cask beers... not many do these days.

The place has reopened. Nice refurb but we had to endure a woman with a large Labrador sitting in the window with another 2 chaps talking loudly about how there too many Black People (she used the word and the term Ethnics). What a wonderful little pub this is. We didn’t book for food but after a lovely pint of Exmoor gold we decided to order food. I ordered the fish pie and my partner had ham egg and chips. Both were excellent and very generous portions. Ham was butcher quality and eggs had orange coloured yolks coming from happy hens. My fish pie was one of the best I’ve had. Mike and Pauline are a lovely couple and made us feel extremely welcome. 4 pints and two main courses for £45.00 can’t go wrong. We will certainly be back soon!

Last year we came across Sexey’s late lunchtime but were served a brilliant meal so this year we booked. You are made welcome the minute you walk in the door. I had a carbonara, my wife chilli con carne. Okay took a little while to cook but it’s a pub so drinks on hand. The results were served hot wonderful flavours and very good portions and not a mass of rice or pasta with meagre sauces. In addition lovely garlic bread and chips- crisp on outside and firm inside. Remember these are cooked when you order not kept under infrared lamps for hours. Pudding? Spotted Dick a mass of fruit in good sponge. Other was a Bailey’s sundae - calorific choc sauce and flake, vanilla ice cream laced with a very generous portion of Bailey’s!! With a soft drink and cider all came to under £40. This after after a 170 mile drive is the best way to start our holiday.

Stopped for a family Sunday roast dinner and greeted by friendly staff and good service. The roast was flavoursome with a great variety of vegetables and plenty of meat, which made it excellent value for money. The vegetables were all slightly overcooked, like mother used to do back in the day and the swede and sprouts tasted frozen rather than fresh. Felt quite nostalgic eating here.

We went as a party of four vegetarians. We had previously eaten at Sexes a little while ago. The land lady is vegetarian, so there is a varied vegetarian choice along with the usual meat dishes. They had a Christmas ale, which went down a treat. I hope they replace it with another one of same quality, as their normal ale is quite uninspiring. Again a wait, which was expected from previous reviews, for the food to arrive. The wine list was 2 reds or 2 whites but a glass of the white and a bottle of the red was very satisfactory. Our first home cooked meals at Sexey's Arms were so good that we returned the following night for more! I had lasagne one night, asking not to have the chips that would have come with it. My partner had fish pie, vegetables and chips, then he ordered the Chocolate Orange Cheesecake and two spoons. I had intended to just have one spoonful, but in the end must have eaten a third of his dessert because it was so good. Whoops, there goes the diet! Luckily for him it was about a fifth of a dinner plate in diameter and a couple of inches high. Neither of us left hungry. The following night I had Beef in Guinness Ale Pie, which was packed full of tender slow-cooked beef and had a crispy flaky pastry top and no pastry base. It came with chips and steamed vegetables. I had no room for dessert, but tasted a spoonful of my partner's delicious raspberry cheesecake. It was an enormous portion, but so delicious that he managed it all!The only potential problem for some people is that the food is cooked to order and takes quite a long time to arrive. Allow up to 45 minutes after ordering, savour your drinks (the Butcombe bitter is very smooth) and the friendly atmosphere and enjoy the quirky surroundings (a large statue of a North American Indian is in the inglenook and many other photos and paintings of North American Indian chiefs grace the walls. We enjoyed reading the menu, for the story of the pub's namesake, the pirate, Sexey, who got caught by the Crown, and was then offered a job working for Queen Elizabeth I to bring the treasures of the high seas back to England. We were staying at Nut Tree Farm B&B in Stoughton and doing a lot of walking, notably up and along the Cheddar Gorge cliffs from Black Rock down to Jacob's Ladder, then up the other side and back to Black Rock. So - fortunately - we had built up an appetite and could do justice to the huge portion sizes at Sexey's Arms.

A traditional, stone-built pub that is slightly off the beaten track but only a mile or so from Wedmore, it has a few picnic benches out the front and is divided internally in to three rooms. Although it does seem to have something of a food emphasis in as much that many of the tables in the lounge were reserved for diners as well as those in the restaurant, the food offering is nonetheless traditional pub faire rather than anything of the “gastro” variety. The central room is the main lounge bar and this was a cosy spot with red patterned carpet on the floor, whitewashed stone walls, plenty of low beams on the ceiling and a large stone fire-place on one side with a log fire blazing away and a row of pewter tankards hanging up above it. This was the most attractive of three rooms and it was a shame that so many tables were reserved, making the options for drinkers somewhat limited. A public bar to the left had a flagstone floor and a couple of chunky farmhouse tables as well as a smaller bar counter and a darts board. The restaurant was probably the largest of the three rooms, and had slightly less ambience with an orange tiled floor and cream wood panelling on much of the walls, although there was exposed stone-work along the front. A large stone fire-place was at each end, although both of these appeared unused. There seemed to be something of an American Indian theme here, with various models of Indians around as well as feathered headgear, pictures and information on the walls.Food wise, the menu had a slightly retro feel to it in some ways (a starter of prawn cocktail for example) and offered a good selection of “pub grub” dishes such as Chilli, Scampi & Chips, Chicken Curry, Ham Egg & Chips, etc., and these were mostly priced around £8 - £10. There was also a specials board in the lounge, although in practise this replicated much of the main menu with only one or two extra dishes available. A “luxury” fish pie was a decent and generous portion with a very cheesy mash topping and the accompanying salad was a notch or two up from your usual pub offering that included strips of pepper, grapes and an orange slice. A beef lasagne was similarly well received.Beers on tap were Butcombe, Exmoor Ale and Exmoor Exmus whilst the ciders were Stowford Press and Ashton Press. All in all I really liked this pub with it’s friendly landlady, cosy ambience and traditional and hearty pub food. Just a bit more space for drinkers in the lounge bar would have made it just about perfect.

Friendly pub, great landlord and excellent pub food, all cooked fresh.... don't be in a hurry, if you are you won't do the place justice. The beer is well kept and the locals are colourful characters... one and all.We love this place.

We arrived late, almost too late to get a meal this time. However, we were asked to wait and yes we were able to get food. I had a delicious Gammon Steak with a fried egg and chips. It was hot and freshly cooked and very welcome. The Sexeys Arms can be really busy so it is adviseable to book in advance to ensure a meal is available. Also there may be some days when they are not cooking so it is adviseable to check before starting out.

A very pleasant traditional pub with reasonably priced freshly prepared food. (Hence the wait that some reviewers have grumbled about)The landlord and his wife are excellent hosts with a wicked sense of fun.As far as the food itself is concerned, the breaded mushrooms, fish pie and steak pie can be recommended. The cask ale however is perhaps an acquired taste as it was for me at least quite bland, and not at all moreish.

What a lovely place to spend an evening. We enjoyed great food, piping hot and freshly cooked. Great portion size and very tasty. This is our new local pub and I couldn't be happier. Back again tonight to sample something else off the menu.

We visited last Thursday evening on the off chance (as we had phoned but there was no reply on several occasions) and were pleasantly surprised by the olde world interior and warm atmosphere of this old inn. Very much a local pub, it had a very good menu and some nice draft beers on offer, along with a friendly welcome. We both had the lamb chops which were well presented with a good selection of vegetables and very tasty. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal in a nice venue and good value for money, we would go back again for more! (Just do answer the phone so people from outside the area know you are there please).

We booked a table for 1pm on Father's Day. The owner took our order for 4 meals at 1:20pm. We spoke to the owner at 2:10pm about waiting for over an hour, to be told the cook was on her own in the kitchen. We eventually ate at 2:20pm. The two roast meats were preformed, the vegetables tasted as though they'd been on the boil since April and it was all floating in gravy. We didn't order a dessert as we had to be at work by 8am the following day. Perhaps our expectations of fresh was an expectation too high for this sweet little pub. The décor is bonkers - a bird wing, a brass plant spray, a bison, Christmas cushions, Native American memorabilia, a willow pattern jug and a dead cactus sit together in a decidedly un eclectic, totally mad muddle. Poor food, terribly slow service and a disappointing Father's Day lunch.

We stayed in a local B&B and the Sexeys Arms was recommended for food, at a reasonable cost and cooked fresh to order. It was exactly that. The food was lovely and fresh and the owners were very welcoming. Would recommend if your looking for good food at a realistic price.

Ate with friends on a Saturday night : the absence of other diners should have given us a clue! We were one of only two tables in use. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, but the pub is clearly not setting out to be a restaurant. The menu is very limited and consisted of mainly basic dishes - pretty much pub grub. As such the food is ok whilst the beer was good. Would visit again for the beer but would eat elsewhere.

Had a wait of about 30 minutes for the meal, but it was worth waiting for. I had the minted lamb chops with fresh vegetables and my husband had the steak and Guinness pie. Both meals were piping hot, which made a refreshing change. Excellent variety of vegetables for me, as in addition to the new potatoes I had broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and peas, with delicious gravy. My husband's pie was packed. with tender pieces of steak. The landlord was friendly and attentive and my husband's beer and my cider were both excellent. My only comment is that if you want instant food you are probably better off going to KFC or MacDonalds!

Ate here last October, with friends. We couldn't sit in the restaurant as it was full, but never the less a table for us was available in the bar, which was fine. I had the fish pie which was really very good indeed. I look forward to eating here again to experience other dishes, and hope to try the restaurant next time. Service was good and friendly, with a really great country pub atmosphere. We recommend Sexey's Arms to our B & B guests, as just two miles from us.

Traditional pub with friendly landlord and landlady. Good food at a reasonable price and décor that includes a native American themed dining room. We loved the quirkiness of it mixed with the beams and stone walls and the friendly atmosphere with a willingness to do simple things like give me extra salad instead of chips. This isn't the place to be if you're in a hurry to eat and run but if you want good food, friendly people and relaxed personal service this is the place for you. It made us smile.

The Sexeys Arms is a very unusual name perhaps and it has a great deal of history. It is also a very unusual Restaurant. We ate there twice during our recent stay in Wedmore and we were delighted with the food on offer and the decor, which was unusual to say the least, with an American Indian Theme. It was really unusual, interesting and worth seeing. The food on offer is good with dishes you might think typical pub grub dishes, but, we tried Ham, egg and Chips, fantastic, Steak and Ale Pie, great, The food was served in generous portions and was really delicious. The Dessert Menu had a great cheesecake on offer and that was also really good. The restaurant is very welcoming and the menu varied. We didn't need to book a table but if you want to give your tastebuds and outing and need to check availability the telephone number is: 01934 712487.

Stopped for breakfast bap and drinkWe had one crispy bacon bap with ketchup I asked that the bacon be crispy, as last time not so much. This time plenty of bacon but alas, still not crispy. Makes for a chewy bap. Had a sausage and caramelised onion cheesy bap. The sausages were delicious, bap was well toasted cheesy taste not so nice, as faux cheesy bit not pleasant to my taste. Coffee v pleasant Did not have to wait an age so that is a plus. Thank you
