Went here for breakfast and overall it was really good apart from the tinned tomato on my full English which were horribly sweet and could have easily overpowered the flavour of the rest of the flavours. Would have been better with fresh.

What a gem !!! Almost hidden amongst the industrial units from bye-gone times, set amongst the cobbles, and a much welcome sight just off the canal towpath. Breakfast was fabulously tasty, quite literally a plentiful plate of well cooked English grub! I had the vegetarian full English, three tasty veggie sausages, tinned ‘sloppy’ tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, egg and toast all piping hot served with a proper mug of tea! Hubby had the traditional full English breakfast with a flat white coffee and commented on the absolute value for money it was, best ever he said! I have to agree! Staff were so lovely, attentive but not intrusive and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Total bill was just under £20, we’d have paid more!

Went to The Secret Cafe today as it has been quite some time since we were last there. My Mrs had been browsing on Her Chromebook and some review came up about The Secret Cafe and She said "was it the same one we had visited some time ago" and if so, we need to go again and check it out. The weather today was quite wet and Her indoors suggested we might go today for a bit of lunch so we left a damp Wyke and went over to a very wet Luddenden Foot to pay them a visit. I had already checked the Menu out online and had decided I was going to have the Beef Chilli with chips and a pitta bread, however when we got there the lady that came to serve us pointed out the "Specials" menu and I "clocked " the Gammon, Eggs and Chips with Mushrooms and Tomato, so immediately changed my mind (as I am quite partial to a bit of Gammon). Sorry to be boring but we both ended up with the Gammon and two pot of tea. While we were waiting I was watching some of the items coming from the kitchen and said to the Mrs "I haven't seen anything small come out of there yet" A full English Breakfast past, flippin 'eck and then a couple of rather large sandwiches in large teacakes and some baked potatoes with ample fillings past our table so I had a pretty good idea what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. A young woman brought our tea's and after a while brought the lunch plate which consisted of a nice piece of grilled Gammon a good portion of chips, topped with two fried eggs two large slices of grilled tomato and a good helping of mushrooms. Gammon was properly grilled, the chips were delicious, fried eggs were fresh (the whites were almost meaty, that's when you know the eggs are fresh and the yolks still liquid, perfect) and a good portion of sweet mushrooms, what's not to like there. Both of us were highly delighted with our food and enough tea for two and a half cups each, perfect lunch. Lunch for two of us cost £ 22.00 which included the two pots of tea. Bargain!! The place was quite busy (I'm not really surprised) however I was surprised at the reasonable prices and quality of the food, so keep it up Guys, you are doing it right. Lastly the staff were pleasant and helpful and on a final note we are going to have to go back to try the Chilli and one or both of the night do's. It could be Pie Night or the Gourmet Evening possibly even both, so watch for the next review. Thank You to all at The Secret Cafe, the secret's out

All for £8.25. Amazing.

The cafe was transformed into a stylish restaurant but the quality and warmth of the welcome was just as we have come to expect from so many visits to the cafe. I was excited to trying here for the first time. Sadly it’ll be our last. The chicken and tarragon pie was dry with chewy chicken and the pastry was stodgy, the instant gravy lumpy. The cheese and onion pie had no discernible cheese or onion just potato. The chips were horribly soggy and the veg was watery and tasteless with a puddle of water in the bottom of the bowl. The staff were friendly and food was prompt but they were the only positives today.

Drinks and food came promptly and were very nice. As plates were removed we were asked if everything had been okay... should’ve been during meal. Bill came. £10.00 for drinks! We said that was incorrect. She showed us the stubby bottles of soda and said we’d had 2 each and lime was £1 a measure. She took £2.00 off so £4.00 per drink. We felt ripped off and she should’ve mentioned that it was bottled soda.

Our first visit. 20 of us from our monthly walking group ate here after our walk along the canal to Mytholmroyd and back along the river. (A lovely flat walk, about 5.5 miles) We had booked and we all pre-ordered at the start of the walk. We were able to park cars there, another bonus. So what about the food you may ask. I can only speak about mine, steak pie, scrumptious. My husband had the lamb pie, again delicious. All 20 of us had nothing but praise for the meals. It was one of those places where every dish that came out made you wonder if you had ordered the right meal! Service was very good, really friendly and amazing value, £6 for good portion of pie, chips, peas and gravy served in a jug. We will be definately going again. Arranged a catch up with friends, and after hearing about the Secret Cafe decided to call down. It's on an industrial site, but don't let that put you off. Basic building, but comfortable and clean. It's designed for local workers and people who want a no nonsense meal. Staff friendly, good menu, specials board, cakes also takeaway. It's opened some evenings as a bistro where you can take your own wine. Haven't tried a meal there in the evening but it is very popular with friends so will be giving it a try. We went for lunch and l had the roast veg omelette and my friends had steak pie. Good portions and nicely presented and hot. We had a pot of tea for 3 which thankfully wasn't in one of those awful metal tea pots. All decided on having a cake for dessert and l had a slice of cherry ripe brownie cake a friend had almond tart. All delicious. As l said good menu and the all day breakfast looked good. Very good value for money so would advise people to give it a visit. Will be returning myself very soon

This little gem is tucked away a little bit but well worth a visit - either for a hearty breakfast, lunch or a foodie heaven 'bistro night' (which they usually do once a month). The owners, Pam & Harry, provide a warm welcome and great value for money given the effort that goes into the food! The pies are to die for - especially the steak one. Can't think of any negatives - have been 4-5 times now. It can be a bit nippy given it's situated in an old mill complex, so recommend a jumper on the colder days - we sat by the radiator so we didn't feel it. Took my mum for breakfast today and she wants to know when we're going again, so will be back again soon!

Dog owners beware. Having seen signs on the towpath to this establishment my friend and I decided to call for a coffee. Despite deciding to sit nearest to the door, ie furthest away from any food, with my dogs the man behind the counter took one look at us and told us in a most unfriendly manner that dogs were not allowed inside. It was damp and the outside seating was wet so we did not stay.I would tell dog owners to walk on to the station cafe at Sowerby Bridge where well behaved dogs are welcome.

An open kitchen preparing fresh food from scratch. A traditional English cafe menu, and none the worse for that! The home-made steak pie was terrific. Thinking of having the Full English breakfast for my birthday treat...The hard floor and scrapy chairs make it noisy.

We have just had the most fabulous party at our home to celebrate our son's wedding. It was greatly enhanced by the Secret Café's external catering service. They could not have done more to make the event a special one. We had opted for a BBQ, despite the uncertain weather, with the added complexity of a menu split 50/50 between British and South African dishes (to match the nationalities of the couple). Pam and Harry were completely unfazed by our quirky requirements and produced a stunning variety of appetisers, mains and desserts. Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared and plentiful, and the on-site team were untiringly courteous and helpful to the 60+ guests. They never stopped smiling even when we changed some of the timings at the last moment to fit in with the weather. Many thanks to the Secret Café. I recommend them without hesitation.

Good food here and an enjoyable atmosphere. Had the full English breakfast, lots of it, cooked well and a very reasonable cost. Evening bistro is especially good and booking essential. The cafe is transformed for the evening

I was on holiday and looking for a unique English experience. I stumbled upon "The Secret Cafe" and had an incredible time. I found staff friendly and knowledgeable about the area. As an American I really enjoyed this local country food and would recommend for anyone passing by.

On the walk along the canal from Sowerby Bridge, this place was signposted at just the right time to grab a cup of tea. I had a very reasonably priced and well made cup of tea with my dad and his girlfriend. My dad had a coffee from their new machine which he said was pretty good. As we had my dog with us, we needed to sit outside at the table, and one of the staff came out straight away and wiped the table and chairs down (rain the previous night) and put down a bowl of fresh water for the dog. I certainly recommend it for a stop and a drink on the walk to or from Sowerby Bridge.

We visited the Secret Cafe again for another excellent lunch with the kids. Everything cooked to our liking and specification - our 4 rather 'choosy' children were perfectly catered with individuality. Massively appreciated. With it being a Wednesday I opted for one of their special burgers - the pigs in blanket burger. See pics. Not for the faint hearted or light of appetite! Amazing. Others went for variations on English breakfast or sandwiches. All top notch.Good food. Good value. Good hosts. Will definitely return when we are next in the area. Thanks.

We had visited this cafe before the Boxing Day floods and were delighted to hear that it had reopened. There is a good choice of delicious food and a friendly welcome. It was busy when we went but we managed to get a table. I believe they are expanding soon and I noticed they do Bistro nights with BYO wine. I wish I lived nearer because Pam and Harry the owners showed me a Bistro menu that was very appealing.

My husband and I stumbled across this wonderful cafe by chance. There is a small board advertising it on the main Halifax to Hebden Bridge Road. How lucky we were to find it.It is run by Pam and her son Harry and was amazingly busy considering it had only just reopened that week after the dreadful floods at Christmas. We had a meat and potato pie with mushy peas and chips for a fiver. Fantastic value. There was a very extensive menu which made it very hard to decide as there was so much yummy home cooked food on offer. We will definitely be returning, next time trying their monthly bistro night, which at £20 for three courses which sounds like a great deal.

The Secret Cafe has recently reopened and this weekend held its first Bistro evening. What an event ! The cafe is transformed in the evening from a bustling cafe into a delightful and classy restaurant brimming with atmosphere and teeming with wonderfully tempting smells from the open kitchen. The food was truly out-of-this-world with, for example, a starter of asparagus with hollandaise sauce topped with quail's egg, a main of pan - seared tuna on a bed of horseradish and potato and a dessert of the most delicious rhubarb and gingSer crumble. Pam and Harry have created a hidden gem tucked away in Luddenden foot in Calderdale and one certainly not to be missed. The staff are welcoming and courteous and clearly enjoy serving food of the highest standard to their guests. The Bistro Evenings are held at the end of each month. We've already rebooked. Who wouldn't ?

Four of us visited the Secret Cafe Saturday lunchtime and although it was busy we were pleasantly greeted when we entered. This is a little gem situated on a business park just below the main road and only 1 minute from the canal towpath. We all ordered different meals. Beef lasagne, fish pie, lamb tagine and a big breakfast. 4 mugs of Yorkshire tea with free refills and all for £22. All the meals were excellent. Although we were more than full we finished with a slice of Victoria sponge cake and two slices of carrot cake for £5.75. I understand the cafe has been open for about 12 months or so and is open 8.00 to 2.30 Mon to Fri and 8.00 till 3.00 on Saturdays. There is seating for about 28. The reason we found this was through the positive reviews on Trip Adviser.

We had a private dining experience at secret cafe tonight for 20 of us to celebrate my wife's birthday. I think this was the first one they had tried. The menu was fixed and we pre-ordered a variety of beef, chicken and fish main courses. All of the food was excellent and the service was very polite and friendly - and the price was extremely reasonable - we will definately be recommending to all our friends. We hope it gets lots of support locally

After deciding that the area around Halifax had been attacked by aliens with cones and single file traffic lights we needed lunch. The idiot lorry driver forced us to pass the interesting sign to the Secret Cafe. At last much indicating etc we returned. In fairness the signing is great until the last few yards. Still we made it. Interesting decor , reminded us of the Canteen at Shelley . Much lower key, slightly understated, to its advantage. Warmly greeted at the door. My wife chose a small breakfast, as a , not disclosed birthday treat. I went for the lamb burger. In fact the polite questions meant we had a very personalised meal. My wife's meal at £3.50 was a bargain. Included toast and tea. My burger was a delight. Last week I was pleased at a similar quality meal at twice the price. Nicely served and friendly staff. Offered free fill ups of tea and very good quality filter coffee. Rounded off with a delicious scone and Victoria sponge cake. All this for less than £12.00. The hard bit will be finding it again. Don't worry . Trip advisor to the rescue will help.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!

My mum had her 70th Birthday party here. Absolutely spot on! We had all the left hand side of the pub allocated to us which was ample room for our party. Staff were great, buffet party food was excellent and plenty of it. We all had a lovely time. Big thank you to all the staff x
