Sadly, the most interesting place to eat in Wycombe is now just a regular pub. Not even a gastro-pub, just a regular beer and chips kind of place. Most disappointing.

Went here for my birthday when visiting family in HW - the sausages were out of this world - amazing flavours and the choice and unusual meets - do not expect just pork or beef and the steaming hot platters of exotic steaks being cooked at the tables around us - one of the best meals I have had in a long time - we will be back

My husband and I had one of our first dates here, which gives some indication of how long we’ve been coming. Three years ago we moved even closer to this place, making it very definitely our closest restaurant, but after we had a mediocre experience (and discovered that they no longer did sweet potato fries! Apparently they were too expensive) about 18 months ago, we’ve avoided coming back. Last night we decided to give it a go again, and £60 later, we desperately wish we hadn’t bothered. The wine list is bloody awful. Our first two choices off the list were out of stock (no one had bothered to tell us before we made our selected) but then we had to send the first bottle back because it was just disgusting; not corked, just foul cheap and unpleasant to drink. We then went for a more expensive bottle, hoping we’d at least get something drinkable... what we got was another bottle of the most cheap supermarket knock-down wine you could (barely) drink. We kept it, but things were already off to a poor start. When you want to have a bottle of wine with your supper, it’s generally because you’re hoping to savour it and enjoy it....not grin and bear it. We only drank half of it. It was that poor. It was just evident that no one had put any thought into the selection of the wine list; it smacked of someone having just bought up whatever was cheapest at the cash’n’carry! Then the food. The sausages were fabulous. Really. I had the wild boar and calvados and the drunken duck and both were excellent. Cooked well and delicious. The mash was...mash. Hard to screw that up, and likewise the peas were peas. The gravy was adequate and not offensive. My husband had the steaks, which is normally the reason we’d come: beautiful, rare, melt-in-the-mouth steaks. Firstly, the list of options has reduced significantly from when we were last around, and nothing was out of stock...which is actually, in this case, a deeply worrying sign. If as a restaurant of specialist meats, you’ve got plenty of everything, it suggests: a) people aren’t eating there much, b) you’ve bought cheap and therefore got more for your money, so don’t mind having surplus stock and/or c) you care less about what you’re serving. I won’t bother to guess which of these is true; I suspect all three. The steaks came, already fairly well cooked, so my husband had to immediately remove them from the stones...which is not how that’s meant to happen. The quality of the meat was pretty poor and the taste was nothing like as beautiful as is years gone by. So disappointed. The fries (as mentioned, although sweet potato fries have now made it back onto the menu, you have to pay extra for them) were horrendous. They were not fresh in any way: they tasted like the cheapest Iceland chips you could imagine, and then had been cooked in foul oil, so that they had a decidedly nasty plastic taste. We ate our food quickly and with great disappointment, whilst our baby balanced precariously in their single, rickety and strapless high chair, and then left as quickly as we could. Sorry, don’t bother coming out this far from town centre anymore- it’s terrible.

I’ve always said to myself that I would stop off in Wycombe for a meal at this fine establishment! BOYYYY do I wish I came sooner! As soon as I walked in a was greeted with open arms like I was a family member (this was the best I’ve ever been greeted at a restaurant)Seating was a first come first served basis, so I had free choice of seating as I was first of the day! Upon being seated I was asked if I would like a drink, to which I chose Kozel (seeing as I loved it in Prague) The pour was perfect and a young chap who served it to me knew exactly what it was and how to serve THE PERFECT PINTAfter a few sips I was handed a menu and to my surprise the food sounded even better than I’d been told! After a few minutes of wrapping my head around the vast options of meats and delicaciesI chose the Exotic Platter as I really wanted to test the waters my meat knowledge. As I’ve tasted kangaroo before So i thought that would be a great decision! The meat was prepared to perfection and as I was able to cook it myself I was in heaven (as I’m quite particular about how my meat is cooked) After eating I was greeted by the chef herself, who asked me if I enjoyed my meal (which is something you never normally get the pleasure of having) and of course I was over the moon with the service so I had to tell her that! I’m not a big one for desserts but I thought I’d try my hand at a waffle sandwich! AND after 5 years of not having one, I was mesmerised by the flavours and presentation! To end my night I was told that I am welcomeBack anytime and that it was a pleasure to have had me in! The service was beyond excellent and I cannot fault anything about the place! These people went above and beyond to make sure my visit was perfect and they did that with ease! 10/10 would come back here again! And I will spread the word to all of my friends and family! All the best to the sausage tree! Until we meet again!

Well where do I start! The service was excellent, we were well looked after and I’m very impressed! The food was beautifully cooked, we had the Camembert to start which was perfect! We then had a beautiful exotic steak (Mouflon) and a fillet steak. They came on hot rocks, which was definitely a different experience! Overall The sausage tree was an excellent experience, and I’ll definitely be back.

AVOID! Hard to know where to start really...from the time we walked it they were poorly stocked...friday night and no regular coke??Sat in the dark in a poorly lit area it was impossible to read the mashed together and crossed out menu...half the items were not available and just scribbled down on a bit of paper....they made us share our starters?..awkward we had to stretch over each other to eat, had to ask for plates, staff only seem to come alive after we complained as some of the food was clearly marked and showed nearly a month out of date!! The wash rooms were disgusting although it was quiet in there...to conclude We have one member of the group quite ill this morning....filled a report to EH

You would have thought that a Friday night would be a time when most places would be heaving with activity. It was a great shame that The Sausage Tree was so empty. We arrived at 7pm and there were only two tables full. We ordered the Sausage Platter (3 sausages of any kind). Although they were tasty enough, I found they all blended into each other - not what I had been expecting. Service was quick and efficient. I hope this place doesn't go out of business.

Went here on a Thursday night after good reviews from my partner from a few years ago. Seems to have changed hands and turned into a local that happens to do exotic steaks. Enjoyed cooking the steaks on a hot plate, they tasted lovely, chips were skinny and a bit anaemic. It was just us and 2 tables of locals. Service was friendly but not that attentive. Not sure I would go again, would probably find somewhere else with a better rep!

My word what can I say, this pub use to be amazing. Please do not bother at lunchtimes, you have to knock on the door at 12.15 to be let inside, met by somebody who looks as though he has just got up and you really are putting him out. Very small lunch menu, never any jackets as they have no potatoes, oh and no they cannot do toasted sandwiches as they have no facilities. Absolute joke I would be horrified if I owned this pub and this is the kind of reception my staff were providing customers, I really do not know why they are still open. Never any apologies for having no items on the menu they are also out of most items when you arrive first thing at lunchtime. Very slow service and extremely unprofessional person behind the bar. Such a shame it use to be amazing. Never again

This was a suggestion from my sister and she was completely right. I took my son there this evening. The food was amazing. Don't be confused by their name as they do so much more and particularly exotic steaks, which is why we went. Between us we had crocodile, zebra, lama, and kangaroo. They turned up on hot stones, which meant that we could cook them just how we wanted. The rest of the fair was really nice as well. They even had a range of dairy free puddings, which is rare. The service, something that I always go on about, was exemplary! They managed to mix utterly chilled with attentive and polite.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly, food was great - a good selection to choose from, a normal menu and specials menu. We went for the 3 exotic steaks platter, steak portions were just the right size for the 2 of us and sides were good portion sizes too. Lovely chilled atmosphere and like I said the staff were great. Definitely recommend going here, it’s nice to go somewhere that has different food to your usual ‘burger and chips’ and not too expensive as well. Starter arrived at 7.45pm and then our mains 15 mins later, which was annoying as we had been sat there all that time then had our 2 courses within 15 min of each other. I accidentally wrote a positive review for Bombay Palace because they bribed me with free baileys (and gave me the squits) but on a two week business trip I went to the Sausage Tree 6 times and looked forward to it before every visit. The sausages and cheesy mash are ace and worth extensive tasting, and the exotic steaks come served with drama on a hot stone. Just go here and ignore everyone else. For my son's 21st birthday last year we went and had a great time - he goes there often - but I was suspicious that the ribeye was not a ribeye. I eat ribeye and several restaurants in the south and always have a stock from Aldi for myself. I know what one looks like and could eat a variety of steak blindfolded and select the ribeye. None the less I got talked into going again this year and ordered the ribeye. Why did I do that? Idiot. What arrived was a fairly thick cut sirloin that was neatly butterflied. It was good but the annoying thing is I do not like the idea the chef thinks he got away with it. My wife wanted to sort it out but I just wanted to eat and go. The rest of the meals were good - pricey beers a bit of a shock - but really it would be nice to eat what I asked for.

Had heard good things about this place. It's a bit of a walk from the town centre but we found it without too much difficulty. Straightforward menu but with a focus on sausages and exotic meats. Nice atmosphere and good service. He had the crocodile steak and I had the sausages and mash. Both good size portions though the mash could have been a bit more cheesy. Also the onions rings seemed to be the out of a freezer bag sort. Other than that it was a nice and tasty meal so would recommend.

We ate here on a Saturday night and a very large group had ordered ahead of us. Unfortunately the two girls behind the bar were rushed off their feet and I don't think things were much better in the kitchen! We had to ask to place our order and then waited nearly an hour for the food to arrive. The food, when it did come, was ok but it would have been better if the waitress had told us which sausage was which (you can mix and match your sausage choice), rather than setting us a taste test. That said, the mash was lump free, creamy and hot. I think we would have had a better experience if we had not been behind such a big group therefore I would recommend checking that there are no large groups booked in, unless you are happy to settle in for the evening and are not hungry when you arrive. We also found it quite difficult to find the restaurant and would recommend getting directions in advance. We only found it thanks to a very helpful local!

We used to go to the Sausage Tree for special occasions whilst I was studying at Bucks New Uni, and it had all the tiny details that made a visit very special. Unfortunately we revisted recently and were so very disappointed with the staff and service. We could not believe it.The male staff member couldn't be bothered. He didn't check if we needed any extra drinks once our first order was made, they messed up the meat order meaning we didn't know what meats we were eating from the hot rock. They had a peculiar sarcastic sense of humour that didn't work because they had made no effort to create a rapport with the table. The chips came out cold, and the meat didn't have the tiny flags to identify what you were eating, which used to be useful when we had visited before. We felt ignored, I actually saw the waiter look around the bar several times at us (he wasn't busy) and not come over, even though our drinks were empty. It was such a strange experience, and I felt incredibly let down as I had recommended the restaurant. I wouldn't return again unless I knew it had returned to it's old running, not worth the money at all now. Such a shame.

My husband was very disappointed with his beer and beef sausage which he found gamey and unpleasant tasting. The burgers were rather bland and dry, very average. However my husband and his friend both enjoyed their dessert.Overall, the food was mediocre, particularly the mains.By far the worst thing about our visit was the service. It took two hours for us to compete our meals. This was mystifying, given that there were only three tables occupied during the whole time we were there so the chef was hardly rushed off his feet. Our waitress was conspicuous by her absence most of the time and rarely came to check whether everything was ok so we were not able to express our dissatisfaction with some of the food. Neither she nor the barman/chef made any attempt to engage with our party and gave the impression that customers were a nuisance. As most people have a limited lunch break I would not recommend that anyone goes for lunch. We certainly will not return because of the poor food and above all the unfriendly and lackadaisical attitude of the staff.

It was our first visit at the sausage tree and we did not know what to expect. We got welcome by Callum who explained us the menu and suggest us some meat for the exotic platter. We started of with a selection. Of sausages and the camembert ( wildboar sausages were great) followed by fillet steak (our friend said best fillet steak he ever had) and the exotic platter with zebra, ostrich and alpaca with fresh salad and fries.Food was amazing and we could cook it to our liking on the hot stone.Only thing we did not like was the prosecco on tab ;-)Good banter with the staff

If you like sausages (and/or the more unusual meats) you'll love it. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place looks clean. The prices aren't bad either. Nice night out for a group or a couple.

We've wanted to visit for a while as I love the idea of exotic meats and meals.I ordered olives starter but was told 'we've run out of butter' but wasn't fussed by this as the quality of bread and olives was great. Other half loved his starter!Other half ordered a sausage and mash dish and the sausage was cold and chewy in the middle, which displayed it had been reheated. However,I really enjoyed my exotic meats and the sweet potato fries really were fantastic. There was a bit of an uncomfortable vibe though as someone came in and hovered around and we sort of hurried to get out of there. Brilliant range of drinks available and we loved the board with all the meat options. Chap served us was really friendly and offered fab advice on which meats to go for as although I had done research I still wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to try! He had a brilliant sense of humour and made the experience more pleasant.Really want to give it another go!

Small pub style restaurant, quite hidden on side streets, large carpark opposite which is free after 7pm, great! Great choice of food, specialising in sausages, exotic meats and steaks. Sausages are great with varieties like Drunken Duck and Wild Boar and Calvados, steaks are traditional or croc, alpaca, elk etc, all cooked by yourself on hot rocks. The restaurant is great alternative with more exciting menu options and makes a great place for a special occasion with a group of friends. However the service is awful! Expect to wait for everything, and there is hardly any table service, we had to go to bar for everything we wanted, the wait staff never come over. Food was very slow to come out, considering you cook it yourself! The beer list was good but most of it they don't have or you never get it even when you order! The staff were friendly when you got their attention but by then it really was too late! Party got tired and irritable and when you hear other tables around you complaining you know its not good!

Having moved nearer town we started to explore local places. Hidden in the back streets just out of town this little bad restaurant is certainly worth finding.Pop in for a drink or two or eat from a good choice menu. Very interesting selection of steaks. You will not be disappointed. On a Friday at 7pm we were first in wondering if it was perhaps not popular. By 8pm all tables were taken an the place has a great atmosphere. For us it could become a regular venue. Well worth finding

Food was good but the service was awful! So rude! They took ages to even take our order and then the starters took nearly an hour to arrive and they couldn't care less. This place used to be amazing but will never be returning... such a shame.

Came here with friends for dinner and it didn't disappoint. There were exotic meats on offer and huge portions. There was even something for the vegetarian member of our party. Service was good and the price reasonable. We will be sure to return.

My partner and i just ate here for the first time this evening for my birthday and it was fab. The Manager Callum was really helpful and couldn't make us feel more welcome. The atmosphere had a buzz to it and The food was awesome. We had lots of fun trying and cooking new and exotic meats from around the world on lava stones. This is the second time we have been to The Sausage Tree within a month of each other, first time for the Sunday roast and the second for an evening meal. Service was great and the food was very high standard. Our party tried all different things on the menu: steaks, sausages, roast. All were really impressed. The sausage platter is a great starter if you want to try some of the different sausages and the Camembert was lovely!. Portions are generous! Good selection of drinks on offer and Callum never faltered on good service with a smile, despite how busy he was. It's good to have a slightly different type of restaurant to go to from the selection in High Wycombe and not too far to walk to from the train station. Thanks and we'll be back to sample more sausage soon!

This was the third time we dropped into the Sausage Tree. A fantastic little place to go for something different. Best exotic steak I had so far was Zebra. I think its had a new manager recently who was friendly and helpful. The selection of sausages and exotic meet is good and even if you want a bog standard steak they are great. I enjoy the hot rock experience and there is nowhere local that does it except here. A good selection of different beers to try, all in all its nice to go somewhere with different things to try be it food or drink.

This is my third trip here. I real find. Good food great atmosphere and good booze. You must try the sausages they are really tasty and the sharing starter of three different sausages gives you a delicious start to the meal. The steaks are fabulous and cooked to perfection by you on hot lava rocks. A real experience. They have exotic steaks too so if you are in the area give a try and surprise yourself

Lovely, welcoming place with good range of ales and a great menu. We started with camembert and the sausage board which were both excellent. Our mains were a mixture of boar, kangaroo steak and the comfort food of good old sausage & mash. All were generous sized protons and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly offering us a 'bar staff chosen' shot at the end of our meal. Great food in a convenient location tucked away just off the A40/A404 and I highly recommend a visit if passing through or at a loose end.

I was recommended the Sausage tree to eat as I was in the area on my own. The member of staff on was welcoming and friendly and had me seated promptly. Beer selection was different. Beers from all over the world. I tried their sausage board as a starter which was yummy. You get to choose THREE different sausages accompanied by a range of chutneys. All for £9. As a main I choose not to go for exotics as I couldn't bare the thought of eating the likes of Zebra and kangaroo. Instead I opted for the sausage meal and mash which was very tasty. This place overall has great value for money however needs a bit of work done to the front as I didn't even notice it was there!

We arrived with another couple determined to have the sausages which were great on a previous visit but on Calum's suggestion we went for the steak night offer which was great value. Don't miss the sausage starter. Can't wait to go back for more of the same with a good helping of Calum's sarcastic humour!

Very nice food, loved the sauce station. Great quality IPA. Only reason for a 4 star was I've had juicier burnt ends previously. Would definitely come again though

A typical local pub in the back streets and serving a range of typical pub foods. The appearance inside and outside is not prepossessing, but the attraction of the pub is well cooked and good value food. We had the sea bass. Two well cooked, thick fillets and masses of sautéed vegetables, accompanied by a large dish of thick cut, well cooked chips Worth a visit for the food
