Bluegrass BBQ Smokehouse in Wycombe

A top choice restaurant for High Wycombe, great BBQ food, good beer. The service is always fast, from greeting when you arrive to bringing food/drinks out. You can either order at the bar, or use the QR code to order straight to the table. Breakfast here is also a great option.

Not the best. Food very overpriced for what it is. Portions of chips are extra cost on top of whatever you order and are far too large. Could easily be shared but on ordering we were told they were only enough for one person. Very expensive. No parking nearby Will not be returning.

I visited with my daughter at the weekend. You are encouraged to place your order through your phone (QR code on each table) but I can never get a good signal in the restaurant, so had to go through the lengthly process of signing up to their WIFI which I didn't want to do. Food came fairly quickly and was as expected. The kids menu is rather expensive and the free dessert is disappointingly small (one small scoop of vanilla ice cream with some ice cream sauce). Service was okay (they don't exactly jump through hoops, but service everywhere is awful now), although I had to remind them that my daughter had a free dessert. Overall, BG is a nice treat now and again, but not the number one choice for my family when we want to eat out.

Visiting and originally from Texas and this BBQ was on point. Nice little part of the South. This would be a great place to get some great tasting BBQ outside of the US.

Not bad! If the service speed and attentiveness got bumped up a bit it would be a 4/5 star for sure. It’s just I’ve been on a few occasions now for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I’ve managed to have my table forgotten about each time. Still, there is great food to be had and the staff are absolutely lovely! It’s just the actual service speed does leave a fair bit to be desired and has resulted in cold food and missed drinks orders quite a few times

Enjoyed the meal but the side orders of Fri Joe’s were ridiculously huge. Even one portion shared would have been enough. In the end we left about 60% uneaten.

The ribs are absolutely phenomenally well flavoured and melted apart. The kids portions are great. Only disappointments were the burnt ends and the lack of gluten free dessert

Stumbled in her after decided against another restaurant (the other place was too busy) and we definitely don't regret it! The food was delicious and well seasoned. The sauce station was full of a wide variety of different sauces, so naturally, we got a little of each. Highly recommend the fried pickles and the pulled pork & sausage platter. The burnt ends were also very good, as the mac&cheese. The staff were nice and the food arrived in a timely manner. Definitely a nice treat! The atmosphere of the place was also very neat, and the spacing of the tables was good, so you didn't feel on top of one another. The menu has a lot of different options, and I'd definitely return to try more!

The food was tasty but watch out on the spice level as they are very spicy hot. Our friend ordered a Louisiana Chicken bonfire and it was too spicy and spoilt the food enjoyment. The coleslaw served to all of us was spicy too.. this could have been avoided if staff was taking our order instead of order by QR code - there's no way of asking any staff.

Food great, service very poor bordering on rude

With a choice of eateries surrounding this BBQ joint they are in clear competition for customers and on the evidence of my visit they are losing. The food ( skin on fries, a BBQ burger and chicken strips) were okay. Just okay,, although the chicken strips did have a dry, floury taste to them. In all our meals the fries were hot, the meat was warm. Condiments wise , Bluegrass really drop the ball with no Ranch Dressing/dip available. The quintessential USA dressing missing from a USA eatery is a crime. The waitresses mostly seemed like they had better places to be, disinterested in the food they were delivering and when asked about an item on the menu answered " I've no idea". Disappointing. So it's an adequate meal, a little over priced with service that lacks pep.

Visiting the town and was recommended to eat here. Food was tasty and enjoyed it. Had the Maple Sriracha, had a nice little kick to it. However, the service left a lot to be desired. I was left to feel that I'd disturbed their day. One of the ladies bordering on downright rude.

My husband chose the brisket supposedly slow cooked for 16 hours and tender for him it was tough and stringy, l asked for no spice or black pepper which was removed from the chicken coating but I was given coleslaw with loads of black pepper in it which left my mouth and tongue stinging for ages afterwards it’s still stinging two hours later, thankfully l don’t have a serious allergy but l do have a sensitivity to black black which is why l asked for no black pepper!!! Do the front of house staff really NOT KNOW there is black pepper in their slaw?

Delicious food as usual. Not cheap, but tasty. I still prefer sauces when they were on the table. Service was friendly and food came quickly.

First time there and we wanted to try everything! It was all good, but we did order too much. Enjoyed the sauces too. Staff were nice, accommodating but generally kept in the background until needed. You can order via QR codes.

This hidden gem just keeps getting better and better. The BBQ is excellent, with the Kansas-style baby back ribs being a special hit. The summer kids' meal deal makes a family trip very affordable, while the service is outstanding. Many thanks to Marta and Max, who made our visit a joy.

Nice and quiet in the middle of the working week, I decided to seek what was in the veggie menu, only a few items but for a BBQ joint, I see less point making much not a meat option, fancy a treat I'm sure as it all looked unique. The meatless burger was amongst one of the best I've yet to currently tries. Also liked the fries and a Mac and Cheese from the sides.

Lovely restaurant! You get a real American feeling in there, with all the lovely country music, delicious food and imported American soda 🙌🏻😍 I got the chicken wrap which was incredible! The meat was top quality and their chips are so fresh and tasty! I particularly loved the sauce station where you can try some really cool sauces.

Food ok, service terrible. Visited for lunch as a family. Despite tables available downstairs we were seated upstairs, we were the only ones up there and it was freezing as air con was on full blast. Asked to move downstairs which was accommodated. Asked to order some drinks but was told that you have to either order via a QR code or at the bar. No table service apparently. There were 5 of us wanting several different dishes and the QR ordering code isn’t user friendly at all it was laggy and I could see it taking ages to complete, so asked at the bar if someone could take our order only to be told that they would have to charge us service if she did that !, so we all dutifully stood in a queue ordering our meals and drinks individually. Quite why the waitress couldn’t have come to our table to take our order like in most restaurants baffled me. To be fair most of the food was ok, the chicken wings were lifeless and soggy and why serve everything on paper which just goes mushy? A word of warning here, especially anyone going with small children, the gravy is heated up in a metal bowl in what must have been a blast furnace ! I actually burnt my finger and thumb on the bowl. The gravy was served on a tray with other sides which I was able to handle. The waitress should have warned us that it was served at nuclear temperature and the bowl was really hot straight out of the oven. A small child touching that could get seriously burnt. No excuses here of an oversight as we order additional gravy (which came at the same fierce temperature) and it wasn’t mentioned the second time either. Generally the feeling was that we were an inconvenience to the staff and they didn’t want to be there either. They weren’t particularly friendly, we were never offered deserts and our table was cleared away at high speed. Disappointing experience and we won’t be returning sorry.

Very frustrated that my "half rack of ribs" was like 5 of the tiniest few you've ever seen. I specifically ordered without sauce... They came smothered in super hot sauce. My brisket was dry. Ordered the salad without tomatoes, so instead it came with a ton of bell pepper. Definitely not worth £28 (especially given that I didn't have any sides). Just an incredibly frustrating experience. Don't think we'll be back again.

For years, Bluegrass has been the universal answer for where to eat in Wycombe, whether with my American wife or with the lads after a Warhammer tournament in town. But apparently either everything's gone downhill since we last visited, or we came on a REALLY bad day. Pictured is what my wife had - a smallish brisket that was was dry enough to have required EFFORT, and a "red-hot half-rack" of ribs that could only just be called a quarter rack, and was covered in a sauce that actively was red hot, at the expense of being able to taste or even eat it. For these, she was charged £28. For £5, she got a pour of bourbon that could be well-described as "begruding". Both of the notes for the kitchen left in the serving app (which itself is a fun game of making sure not to refresh the page and lose your entire order) were ignored. And the perennial issue of their coleslaw, a vessel for cooling down from spicier dishes, being filled with jalapenos and therefore the spiciest thing on my plate, has finally climbed the ranks to be a describable annoyance. It's quite upsetting that somewhere that used to be so good has dropped quite so far in quality, flavour, and reasonable price, and I don't think it's just me - I'm used to it being quite more packed than it was for a Friday night. To close on some sort of positive note, the frickles continue to be tasty, but not enough to salvage the meal. :(

We were unfortunately turned away due to a member of our group having a nut allergy and they said they advised we didn’t eat there as they could only offer fries as “nut free” but even then couldn’t be 100% sure that it wouldn’t contain nuts. It does beg the question of the state of their kitchen if they can’t accommodate a basic allergy. What a shame we all had a fabulous meal in Heidrun next door instead.

Was looking forward to this place absolute disappointment I got the burnt ends with mac and cheese it was flavourless and the burnt ends were like little bits of rubber the bottle of water was the best thing about the meal 👎👎👎

really good food and service, really quick and yummy

We visited 30/6 at around 2pm for lunch. The food was good , but the service was awful. The girl who sat us down and ‘served’ us had no customer service skills at all. She was unfriendly, unhelpful and spoke about customers to the guy behind the bar. It’s such a shame as we enjoyed our food but for that awful service we will definitely not go back there.

The food is ok however the service has a lot to be desired. The person who approached us on arrival didn’t speak clearly didn’t seem happy being there. Also when she served the food we struggled to make out what she was saying and then she just put the food down without saying enjoy your meal guys or making us aware of where the sauces were. There isn’t much of an atmosphere. Not going back which is a shame as we are local…

Great place visually, staff are nice. The food is terrible. If you know about bbq you won't appreciate it here. If you have had bbq in the US then you wont like this food. Had the brisket and the ribs. If you know about bbq you know that you measure a place on its brisket. The brisket did have a smoke ring, but that was the only positive, it had no flavour except the sauce and really was not soft. The ribs were clearly frozen not fresh, ok its hard to get baby back ribs in the UK but I would have thought they could source fresh ribs as a restaurant. Honestly it's a missed opportunity. It's not recommended, sorry.

Overview: American bbq smokehouse serving barbecued meats and american style food, family friendly. Pros✅: Staff were nice and attentive, easy to order via the QR code. Self service sauces were nice and there were different choices of bbq sauces. Halloumi fries and ‘frickles’ were nice. Cons❌: The bbq brisket was not good. The meat was hard and tough like eating beef jerky, would not recommend and this was my main reason for coming here as this is often hard to find in the UK. Fries were undercooked and not good, very pale. Chilli cheese fries lacked cheese, there was only a small portion of cheese on the fries. Pulled pork was dry and not succulent or tender which was expected. Recommended dishes: 🥒 Frickles 🧀 Halloumi fries 🌭 Smoked sausage Do not think I will come back to this place due to the lack of quality and cooking of food.

Unplanned, just walking around Windsor looking at where’s available to eat, then came across Bluegrass BBQ. Food was fantastic, staff were even better. The Manager came over mid meal to check all was ok & had a brief chat, then again towards the end of the meal for a chat. She was the perfect host 👌. Reminded us of way back when restaurants & staff cared about your dining experience. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough, the good dining experience is still out there. Supurb evening, thank you ladies.

Ribs were absolutely delicious. Served by Amber and Alice who offered brilliant service.

We had a wonderful meal. The food was absolutely incredible and for an excellent price! We were served by Alice and Amber who were both lovely and friendly. We will definitely be returning soon!

Had a great lunch time meal (2pm) with my group of friends. The staff were friendly and welcomed us in with an explanation of how to order with the qr code. It was pretty quiet inside with only a few tables occupied so we were able to get our orders quite quickly. There was also a self serve sauce bar which had a selection of really nice unique sauces. I had the burnt ends poutine which was really good, but doesn't make it £18 worth especially as it didn't have cheese curds or gravy which are the fundamentals of poutine. My friends ordered the chicken and waffles, a maple & siracha burger, brisket and sweet potato fries, and finally the chicken wings and fries. The servings were generally large and we were really stuffed by the end. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I'd be back again.

Stumbled on this place while staying nearby for work. Delicious food. I was here on a Tuesday so had the ribs (special) - fall off the bone delicious meat. Not the biggest (in comparison to some places I've been to in the past) but for the price it's good value. I will definitely come again and recommend to others.

Came here with friends on Saturday night. Always come here when we visit High Wycombe and this was the first time that we were straight in with no waiting, and surprisingly, we were the only people on the top floor. A really good BBQ smokehouse, this time I went for something a little different - chicken waffle (£15 - see pics). Bonus points for the additional carbs in the shape of fries, but negative points as imam pretty sure the waffle is not fresh (unlike my favourite Hickorys!). However, nice pieces of chicken, plenty of bacon and a lot of syrup! Very delicious! Friends both had the Boston loaded fries - looked great and seemed to be a really good portion. Service was great and friendly. Food and drink served pretty swift (ordered and paid via the QR code). Still a favourite and we'll still return next year.

Always have loved coming here for many years (especially for breakfast 🥞) for the price the food is a good portion and of good quality always. Staff are helpful and polite. It is an order via the website or you can go to the bar to order. I wouldn't say you need to book a table unless it's a large group or at peak hours

Tried to visit around 8pm to be turned away as they were closing early.This has been 1 of 2 occasions we couldn't eat here for different reasons. Won't be attempting a third or any future visits.

Nice polite young lady behind the counter, me and the wife went up to order the food for us and the kids, ordered it all and then found out they don’t take £50 notes, think the staff need support and training on how to identify fake notes. We left after this went to another restaurant just round the corner where the manager came out checked our notes and all good to go, for the sake of a £1 pen to identify fake notes they lost nearly £100 worth of business, this evening and further business from us. A shame since so many businesses claim to be struggling yet are putting up barriers. Blue grass are unfortunately treating all cash customers as criminals, highly disappointed will not return with cash or card

First time at Bluegrass and my last! My cream jumper sleeve stuck to the table and was stained with bbq sauce. My husband (70 years) complained that some of his wings were bloody, to be told that's the way we cook them! He didn't eat them or give any to our 2 year old Grandson. Attitude was totally unacceptable.

Nice BBQ, IPA selection and reasonably priced.

Food was generally good. Brisket and fries lovely, chicken waffle good (waffle a bit dry), rack of ribs lovely, fries lovely, onion rings too greasy and undercooked. Staff were professional. Ordering by mobile QR code too hard to match up to menu but ordered at bar no problem. Table needed wiping and the bathroom could do with a good clean. £25 a head to include drinks a fair price.

The food is great, portion is large and affordable too. Staff are friendly and ensures we are satisfied with the food served, service time is quick. Atmosphere is really homie. Me and my partner even thought of making it as our regular place. Will definitely come back and try the other dishes.

Had a great early evening meal. Food was well cooked and presented. Dan and his co server were very friendly and helpful. Will come again when back in Wycombe. Could have done with a small dish to put the bones in.

We ate in the High Wycombe restaurant on Friday. The good was great and the service from Alice and Dan was outstanding. Nothing was too much bother for them. Thanks Alice and Dan for making our evening fabulous.

My son chose this restaurant for his recent birthday meal. We arrived around 6.00pm on Saturday evening. The restaurant was not busy at this time and we were offered a table.for 5 upstairs. We were a bit surprised that the only ways to order were on an app from our table or to go back downstairs and order at the bar. We ordered online and despite all of us being pretty tech savvy the process was not straight forward. It took a good 15 minutes to get through the.whole system. Ordering 5 meals with a waiter(ress) would take.no more than 5 minutes. You then have to pay online up front which of course makes it difficult for refunds, complaints and any adjustments or additions that you may want to make. I am a firm believer in paying after eating which is the best contractural way and allows you to consider level of tip etc. We were told we would have to get our cutlery tableware, condiments etc from an area across the room. When we got there they had run out of cutlery and most of the condiments were missing and I had to go downstairs to ask. The young person behind the bar told me there was another station ariund the corner downstairs where I could.help myself and called me "Darlin" in that oh so slightly condescending way that is quite annoying. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time but was unremarkable and not at as warm a temperature as I would prefer from supposedly freshly cooked food. It was all on little trays with disposable cardboard. The flavours reflected the stlye but I found the Brisket a little dry. My son and his partner enjoyed their burgers. My wife found the ribs a bit dry and my daughter thought the fries were small and a bit soggy. We didnt bother with coffee or dessert based on our experience thus far. Overall not a great experience sadly, as I am a fan of smoke house and BbQ. Wont be returning I,m afraid.

Quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The tables were sticky and dirty. When the food arrived the chicken was kind of cold, not heated through. Mentioned it to the waiter who said they would send the manager, who neved materialised. Had to leave because we were going to the theatre, so could not pursue it. Should have got a refund. Inedible.

Figured from the high positive feedback I’d take a chance at one of the only BBQ smokehouses in the area today. Turned up around lunch time and it wasn’t busy so hoped that the food would be quick and good quality considering the kitchen wouldn’t be rushed off their feet. No such luck. Firstly, never walked into a BBQ smokehouse with no apparent smoke. Not even the hint of smoke in the air. Waitress was pleasant enough and offered me a seat anywhere and bought a specials menu then encouraged me to order via QR code. There were 3 people in the restaurant. Ordered a root beer float, brisket with sweet potato fries and some vegan beans. After a 28 minute wait I thought I’d be in line for some delicious food… …Never had such tasteless BBQ in my life. The brisket was stringy, dry and overcooked. It came in a weird block sized portion, not cut slices of brisket as I am well used to. Slathered in a watered down sauce which would’ve been better on ice cream than Beef. Sweet potato fries had no paprika seasoning on them and the beans tasted like the dish had not been rinsed properly of washing up liquid. A mother and daughter were sat next to me, and were asked how their meal was and offered better attendance which was more than I was, perhaps as they’d ordered more food. As I left I overheard the mother say to her daughter that she thought the food was overpriced and average, I exclaimed “agreed” as I left. I’d like to think places in smaller towns could do well with this sorta food as it’s so far and few between this giving them a larger chance to impress. Not the case at Bluegrass. Thoroughly disappointed.

Unfortunately the management at The Bluegrass BBQ have acted fairly unprofessionally, and I am having to write this as a public complaint. I ordered some vouchers for my brother for Christmas last year, unfortunately these didn’t arrive. I initially called in February and was asked to email an account, which they didn’t respond too. I then called again and told the manager would call me back the next day and to forward an email to a different email address; again this was ignored. I called up today roughly 2 weeks after the last contact and got told the manager is on holiday, and there is nothing noted about the complaint; they have effectively ignored all previous contact. It’s an absolute shambles I’m having to write this complaint publicly, but hopefully this may illicit a response by their inept management team. And serve as a warning to anyone who may want to order vouchers from this establishment.

The High Wycome branch is our grandchildren’s favourite restaurant over all the usual ones, although I think 50% is about the restaurant and 50% is all about how Jess! 3 visits in 6 months and everytime she is beyond excellent. Steve

Couldn't get a seat at cocktail bar next door so gave this place a try. Thought the name would guarantee good burgers Bbq etc but no. Welcome was friendly but when sat down table surface sticky...... went to order and asked to taste the house white, girl looked at me like I'd crawled from under stone. I tried the house white which was ok, (I am not going to spend my hard earned money on wine described as house white with our tasting!). Placed our order and food arrived promptly. I had the maple sriracha, the patty was dry and not tasty. Partner had buffalo blue fried chicken it was dry and greasy. We were under pressure to get to our theatre show so ate and left. The fries were good. At least we tried something new but there are a lot of better restaurants in the town centre but if you don't try you don't know. We will not be going back... a lesson learnt.

Consistently good, our go to for lunch when in Wycombe!

Food was OK. Partners pulled pork was dry, my burnt ends were dry and all of our chips could have done with a bit more crisping up - easy things to improve on but would put me off from going again.

Absolutely fabulous gem! We found this place via Google when visiting at half term. The food was amazingly good, and the kids eat free at half term made it even better. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. If we visit high Wycombe again we'll definitely come back.

Our servers today were Jess and Alice, they were lovely, very professional and willing to help with anything. The food was amazing, hot and served to us very quickly as well, the atmosphere was very welcoming, would highly recommend :)

Had a couple of gift vouchers to this place I was so excited to use. Came for a late afternoon lunch, service was great. Great selection of BBQ favourites, and so fun to try all the different sauces inspired by the different states. The cream corn and baked beans were both excellent.

Delicious food and a fun restaurant. The ribs, fried onion and creamed corn were especially delicious, but all very good. Will be back to try more soon!!
