Maybe it’s my fault. When I asked for a ham roll, that’s all I got. Some ham leftover in the bottom of the tray and stuck to the glass, in a dry roll. When I asked for a tuna mayo roll. Same. Not asked if I wanted butter. No sprig of salad. No napkin.

Popped into out favourite place for lunch - first time for a while. Amazing food and service - never changes: - I had a flat bread with hummus, falafel, salad, chilli and mint ❤️. - my wife had the ‘veggie’ (goats cheese, vegetables in ciabatta) - 2 x flapjack. Bargain at £10 total and food to die for. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

Bread was great...fillings were good...but hygiene leaves a bit to be desired. The staff go between the till and making sandwiches without washing their hands or putting on gloves. Shame, as otherwise it seems like a nice place.

Oh wow! Trust me! This is the place to buy your sandwich. No need to try making your own! We both used to work in Imperial Square in Cheltenham in the 90s & The Sandwich Box was where we bought our sandwiches every lunchtime. We don't live in Cheltenham & we don't work here anymore, so we were utterly stunned to find the same Sandwich Box still in the same place opposite the Town Hall after more than 20 years. AND IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN IT USED TO BE! Now, they bake their own bread, ingredients are locally sourced & the choice is as dazzling as ever! I opted for what they call a Croque Monsieur - an extremely tasty toasted ciabatta roll, filled with lean, tasty ham, creamy cheese & Dijon mustard. It was perfect! Hubby's focaccia was fresh fresh fresh, filled with chicken & crispy bacon. There's a wonderful selection of fillings - daunting in fact & many many fresh salads to choose from. Best to have an idea of what you fancy before you walk in, else you'll be stuck gaping at the menu like we were :-) Enjoy!

Tired of always eating the same kind of stuff for lunch I popped into this place - thank goodness. I ordered the Mexican lamb filled pita. 3 good-sized succulent minced lamb meatballs in pita bread stuffed with red kidney beans, lots of very fresh salad including tomato and cucumber with lashings of piquant mint sauce. Very, very good indeed. Sandwich box also sells a variety of fresh loaves, lots of other sandwiches and you can build your own, as well as fresh salad ingredients to bespoke your own salad - and a range of paninis. It's in basement and small and crowded because other people know how good it is. Very reasonably priced - makes other sandwich and salad providers pale into insignificance. So many choices, so little time :) Excellent value for money. Close to Cheltenham Town Hall.

A friend recommended Sandwich Box to me, and after he had collected orders for me a few times I eventually went with him to visit this tiny basement establishment opposite the Town Hall. It was heaving - huge queue, but rapidly and professionally being served by the enthusiastic staff. Oh, and they take telephone orders - a real time saver! They do sandwiches made to order, on bread they bake fresh daily, and a wide range of baked goods - mini-quiches, veg tarts, brownies, cakes, etc. There is a special hot dish that varies daily, and they have a wide selection of salad ingredients, from the lettuce, tomato and cucumber varieties through to cous-cous, chick peas and the like. Several types of meat - chicken, ham etc. can be added to either a standard salad box, or a large one for an extra 50p. The standard size is more than enough for me for lunch, and the larger size could feed two (although I have managed it on my own once, and my friend usually polishes one off on his own!). They have rightly got a great reputation, and have won awards for their baking. If you want a fresh lunch, prepared to order and at a really good price, you won't go wrong. Just prepare to queue!

Not sure what else to say? The bread that we buy regularly (at the shop or from the market stall when it's there) is in a class of its own, with the cheddar cheese/jalapeño my overall favourite - its stunning!

An excellent sandwich bar opposite to the Town Hall in Cheltenham. Sandwiches are exceptionally good, lots of choices for fillings with generous portions. Specials each day, my favourite is Pulled Brisket with coleslaw, thats on a Wednesday. Bread, rolls, pittas, ciabatta all home made. Loaves available to buy daily. Home made cakes to die for. You really must try it.

Super bread shop with tasty loaves and cheerful staff. Although the queues can get long, service is quick so yuo don't have to wait long. Try any of the different breads - this weekend, I had the chilli loaf and a super olive sourdough, both of which were excellent. Worth hunting this place out (its nearly opposite the entrance to the Town Hall, but at basement level).

The food is great here, they bake their own bread so don't start serving until late morning. Good choice of fillings and great Scotch Eggs. The only problem is that it gets so busy, you can easily waste 20 minutes of your lunch break queueing and they run out of sandwich fillings if you leave it too late. Can't help but think they could do much more business if only they were better organised.

My sister came on a flying visit, arriving at lunchtime & demanding a snack. I brought her to Sandwich Box after hearing many recommendations, and was glad I did. I had a toasted ciabatta with salami and pickle, very nice. She had a carefully chosen selection from the salads on offer, and a slice of quiche. I might mention that she's somewhat fussy about food generally, but she was pleased with the freshness, taste & healthiness. So therefore I was too. We strolled to the Imperial Gardens and sat there in the sun for an hour, chatting & munching. Delightful!

If it were possible to make this a franchise restaurant, I’d be an investor. This is now another one of my “go-to” places for lunch in Cheltenham and judging by the lines (usually always out the door), I’m not alone. I don’t think there is any way to duplicate all the fresh ingredients, or the unique atmosphere, or the great food. It’s not just that there is something about it that is quintessentially English, it’s just really, really good. I had the most delicious turkey sandwich. Succulent, tasty, plentiful. At first, I thought it was so big, I couldn’t eat it all, but it was so darn good, I couldn’t stop. What more could you want from a lunch box?

I worked nearby for a number of years and this was and still is the finest sandwich bar in town. Everything about it is personnel with everything is homemade and supplied to your liking. Read about this place in the Sainsburys Summer magazine. You will find it opposite the town hall in the basement of a block of Regency buildings. It is a take away place but there are 2 tiny seats at the bottom of the steps leading to it should you want to eat quickly and be off?! However, there is a lovely park nearby with plenty of seats where you could sit. We were very impressed with a great selection of food and all very tempting. Homemade quiches and tartlets, great selection of salads and the most delicious bread to make rolls with. All nicely packaged to take away. In the past when staying in Cheltenham we have been to M & S or Boots to buy a sandwich but after one visit we went here and will definitely go here every time as it worked out to be less than the price of a sandwich in M & S! My only suggestion for improvement would be to have the great selection of food written up at the back of the shop as well as by the counter where they take your order. We felt we were taking rather a long time to order with people in a hurry behind us as we weren't sure what we wanted but needed to be at the front in order to read the choices. Can't wait to go back. Must try a donut next time, they looked yummy.

My favourite sandwich shop ever. The sandwiches and salads are very good, but the real stars are the daily specials. Stewsday is my personal favourite, but the pulled beef brisket and Friday pizzas have to be tasted. So much to recommend it, the number one thing being the pride and care taken in producing their own bread (you can also buy takeaway loaves - try the sourdough). This is NOT just another run of the mill sandwich bar.I worked in Cheltenham for 4 years and moved away recently. The Sandwich Box is the thing I miss most ! Now when I visit Cheltenham for business I always try and make sure I can work in a visit to the Sandwich Box.Only downside is that because of its well-known excellence, queues can get long. Waiting is a small price to pay though.

After 5 years of using the Sandwich Box and always been delighted by every lunch time experience, today was the ultimate. I opted for the Tandoori Chicken Pitta @ £3.90. At first I though it might be a little over priced (but that's because I'm northern) then I watched the ingredients go in and they didn't seem to stop. The freshly made pitta was perfect, filled with leaves, onion salad, mango chutney, mint yoghurt & a mountainous amount of chicken. The only down side to this festival of spicy delight was I actually needed a bib.In my opinion (which is usually right) it was one of the best tasting items I've ever had from the Sandwich Box.All the awards have been well deserved, the hard work and dedication from Dom and the team is very apparent due to the high quality of breads, ingredients & service.Thought for the future can we have a pie and peas day? Again just because I'm northern!!!Keep up the amazing work. It never goes unnoticed.

I just got back to work with my tandoori chicken pitta (today's special), picked it up and the entire contents fell out all over the floor because it was in a paper bag and was full of liquid, I am left with an overly spiced pitta bread, filled with lettuce and nothing else. As I work less than 5 minutes walk from the Sandwich Box, it would be good if the packaging / sandwich structure could hold itself together for that long.Although they do interesting and inventive fillings, the bread is often burned or over cooked, the quiches are broadly flavourless, and there's nothing very healthy / low fat. If you have cheese in a sandwich it comes pretty grated out of one of those blue plastic bags.To be honest I'm not sure all the awards are representative of what is actually served everyday, it's just really good PR.

The Sandwich Box is one of the best places to grab your lunch in Cheltenham. The Hog Roast special on a Thursday is a particular treat. It's really nice to see such a hard-working team thrive as the place is always packed - but the food is worth the wait. They'll make whatever you like from scratch and the portions are generous too. The place has gone downhill and is in need of a deep clean. The food has also lost its finesse that it had two years ago and has fallen into the realm of an average (fairly unhealthy) lunch venue with unnecessarily huge queues... I won't mention the most awkward till location. Bring Back the Sandwich Box Circa 2013.

The queues were long as was the wait after ordering, which wasn't good as the the room was very cramped. They had a very good selection of sandwiches, panini's, cakes and salads, with the option to add toppings/items or create any sandwich/salad from scratch. The bread was very nice, but having it as a panini took away some of the quality.I will probably return in the future for a regular sandwich and a cake, I just hope wait time is reduced or I get there on a quieter day.
