I need that biscoff muffin in my life again. It was more like a biscoff angel food cake. Not too sweet . Light and fluffy. Biscoffy.

I was in Cheltenham early for a meeting and saw this beautifully-inviting coffee shop as I was passing and decided to get myself a coffee. Fantastic place, friendly staff, delicious OFW!

Just came to the one near Nationwide for the first time today, I asked for an iced latte and got a takeaway cup that was full to the top of the actual lid, I didn't mind as I felt is was generous they gave us so much coffee! However it was starting to spill so I asked if they could give me a bigger cup as I worried it would keep spilling, I had the most patronising response from the worker, she said in the most condescending tone that as long as I don't 'jump up and down' it shouldn't spill and that nothing would happen and then started to raise her voice at me saying 'you will be absoloutely fine' as if a mother is telling off a child. She went on to be so rude that my friends and family couldn't believe that she was being so rude to me. I said why do you need to speak to me like that as I only asked for a bigger cup and I know I wasn't rude in my speaking to her when asking and she started to raise her voice at me again. I said okay I'm just going to leave now and she started shouting at me to stop walking because she had more to say. My brother in law and sister said politely to let us leave as she was being rude and then she went on to show that she was pregnant and she said maybe this is the reason she was being so rude. This is no excuse, I wasn't being rude at all I've worked in hospitality myself and I would never ever be rude for no reason at all when all I was doing is asking if they had a bigger cup for my drink. As we left she told her staff that we are banned from coming in ever again and we wouldn't get served if we did. She was the only member of staff that was unruly and confrontational for no reason. This was at 16:45 on 22nd June 2024 so you can look and see who was on shift then. Even if you ask the other members of staff they will explain how she went from 0-100 in a matter of seconds. You need to do better with your staff.

Have a menu which is out of date a number of items othe menu they never have felt sorry for the girls behind the counter telling customers sorry we don't have this and that ....Update your Menu in all of your establishments

Coffee was very nice. Waffles are on the menu but only available at the other branch. Cakes looked good.

Really lovely independent coffee shop with friendly staff and plenty of options. I have only ever had a to go lunch but it was delicious. Their coffee is great and I saw a lot of vegan options.

Me and my partner have been coming to black and gold since moving to Cheltenham and will continue to do so. Lovely and friendly staff, great service and excellent food and drinks.

Love this coffee shop! Our chocolate croissant was so delish & the coffees were nice and warm, perfect for a cold day. The service is very delightful too, the staff brought the food and drinks to our table, how lovely😊 The atmosphere is lovely, really wholesome and everyone is friendly. Absolutely my favourite coffee shop. I've never had a bad experience here. Everything I've tried (and there are a lot of options) has been delicious. There are so many flavours of milkshakes available as well as syrups to put in coffee or hot chocolate. I'm always impressed by the range of foods/drinks available.

I can’t fault this cafe shop really. Upstairs seating is always nice but it’s probably not feasible here. The shop is really nicely designed. The staff are friendly & good at their job. The seating is very comfy & include a number of leather cushioned chairs & sofas. And the other thing I really, really like, everything feels really clean & tidy. The exact opposite of Costa Coffee which is always filthy & badly managed. Black Gold is much better in every way. Tables are always cleaned within minutes of someone leaving. Other coffee shops should be taking note.

Really lovely cafe with incredibly helpful staff who were super lovely to my two young kids. We had delicious coffee and the kids shared a waffle which was enormous! The staff were incredible, whoever the two lovely women working today were deserve a raise!

Lovely Cafe, been before and enjoyed. Not dog friendly unfortunately as told today by Barista so you cannot bring dogs. Other than that very nice 🙂

The coffee here is great, it’s really smooth. It’s a nice place to sit and relax for a bit.

The food was ok for the price but dont get the cheese and onion toastie as it comes on brown bread.

I retreated here after a miserable, invisible experience at another place close by, and the difference was lovely. Highly recommended for customer service, ambience, people-watching opportunities, and lovely retreat from busy streets.

Went in to get breakfast, no hot food options. They just had things I could find at any supermarket, which they would heat and serve. The Victoria sponge cake I ordered was not very nice either, it was soggy and the strawberry on the top was wilted and on the verge of rot. The toastie was very basic at best. The coffee was nothing special either, and they did not serve enough milk for the coffee. The staff were very polite and cheerful though, nothing to complain there. The ambience was supposed to rustic, but not well maintained. It was dusty, had a musty damp smell. The sofas were quite damaged and lumpy, not comfortable at all.

I was looking for a speciality coffee and found this cafe has a wonderful review. However, my experience was a total disaster. I asked for Cortado and specifically mentioned it’ll be a tiny amount of whole textured milk. The barista completely ignored it and made Latte but served as Cortado. The worst part was; they had three choices of coffee displayed big on the wall but were not offered. It was just to create hype? I don't understand if the barista don’t know how to make it why do they not get sufficient training to make someone’s coffee really special?

Fantastic spot for coffee, tea and snacks. Either in the cold, humid UK winter, where you can comfortably get warm and cosy inside and fight the cold with rich, caloric and delicious cakes, sandwiches and of course the aromatic hot coffee, which rules the scene, ir in summer just pop in for a fresh salad or a cold beverage of your preference. Definitely a place not to miss.

We popped into the Bishops Cleve Cafe and Deli yesterday afternoon, after a business meeting. Absolutely delightful place, the Ladies behind the counter were friendly and welcoming. The coffee was perfect along with the toffee apple cake. I would highly recommend this place and will be back. Well done and thank you

Visited with family for paninis, coffee and cakes. Quick service and nice comfortable seating. The food and drinks were perfect and the cakes were easily the best I've had in a long time. Will definitely return the next time I am in the area.

Great drinks and super friendly service! Both members of the team on Saturday were polite and nice to talk to, and there’s a good selection of drinks available. The interior is nice and you could definitely spend a long time in there! Glad we visited black and gold instead of a chain 😊

Nice friendly staff and nice coffee. The first three items we ordered were off the menu & were only served at the weekend. We opted for Tuna Panini and Cheese and Tomato Toastie. Both could have done with a lot more cooking - both just luke warm and in parts cold. They seem to have the equipment but maybe not the training

Great coffee served in/on some gorgeous crockery. Always a good selection of pastries, we especially good first thing in the morning.

Jacket was lush! Really liked the shredded chicken for the coronation chicken topping. Decaff mocha was one of the best coffees I've had. I couldn't bring myself to buy a cake after all this due to cost... Shame there isn't a reduced slice rate after the purchase of a main and drink as id have jumped on it!! Staff really friendly and when I mentioned I didn't fancy salad with the jacket they offered crisps! Making a fussy pregnant lady very happy :)

Been here several times, a few people have said they're dog friendly...they are definitely not dot friendly!! Turned us away with our dog which was a shame as we won't be going back!

WARNING!! Do NOT order food here. All the food items are from Sainsbury’s next door (saw them bring the bag in). Paid £4.20 for a cheese and tomato toastie made with kingsmill and and pre cut cheese slices. No seasoning. Totally dry and tasteless. To make matters worse, it wasn’t even fully toasted. A couple of walkers crisps on the side. In all, a 50p plate marked up to £4.20. We were also surprised by a warm (?) yoghurt granola bowl. Interesting experience eating hot yoghurt. Happy to pay for decent food, but in this case it’s blatant daylight robbery. Wish they just stuck to coffee.

Very busy coffee shop in the heart of Cheltenham. We didn't try any of the food offerings but did stop in for an afternoon coffee break. It was packed and there was a line to order. Friendly staff, warm finishings (physically and ambiance). My gingerbread chai latte was very sweet but I was able to water it down with more milk.

Popped in for a quick bite, which turned into an enormous waffle 😂 Atmosphere is really cosy, staff are really lovely - super friendly and welcoming. The waffle was massive and delicious, although (this is always tricky) the cold toppings (fruit and cream) meant that the whole thing cooled down quickly which was a shame. Also had a chai latte. This (regular size) came in a decent sized mug, one you can hug! And it stayed hot for ages which meant I could take my time to actually enjoy it. Really like it here and would definitely come again 🙂

Brilliant little cafe, servicecwith a friendly smile and a loyalty scheme. The cafe has its own nostalgic atmosphere. It is popular at lunch times so get there early if you want a seat.

My friend and I visited for the first time. Lovely and cosy inside. We had cheese and onion toasted sandwiches, and tea and coffee. The coffee was very tasty, and the sandwiches were perfect. Unfortunately I had my plate on my lap, and it slipped off, so one half of my sandwich went with it on the floor. In no time at all the waitress came with a dustpan and brush, cleaned it up, and a few minutes later, the waiter brought me a fresh one, plus the crisp garnish. The cakes also looked great,

We stopped in on our walk for a coffee. I had a caffe latte and my wife had a chai latte. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the drinks, and the decor and music provided a great coffee shop atmosphere. We will be back again to sample the array of tasty treats and enjoy the music.

5 stars aren't enough for this lovely coffee shop. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely atmosphere. The food was superb. A lovely range of fresh cakes, with some unusual flavours like banana and cinnamon, lemon and elderflower, along with Victoria sponge, coffee cake, carrot cake, brownies and more. We had delicious paninis and the coffee really was superb. The coffee was really flavourful. You can taste a real mix of sweet and fruit elements, perfectly roasted... I wish I could drink it every day. If you come to Cheltenham you must try this place.

This coffee shop is located just off the pedestrianised shopping area on a busy road. It has a quirky interior and some outside seating on the pavement. We enjoyed two good quality flat whites which cost £5.70.
