Really cute little sandwich bar, we had baguettes which were delicious and really good value for money. Would thoroughly recommend popping in for lunch!

We wanted a sandwich to take with us to eat. There are only 2 chairs outside and none inside.Our smoked salmon, creme cheese and cucumber sandwich on white was freshly made as we waited and very tasty indeed. We also bought a small pot of Pringles to go with it.

The Girlfriend and I visited this shop based on the recommendations from Trip Advisor and it lived up to our expectations. She had a Tuna Salad Sandwich and I had a Croque Monsieur. Both outstanding, freshly prepared in front of us and for £8.90 it was incredible value for money. Along with the Charming Parisian owner this was a wonderful experience.

Popped in with a friend looking for something tasty for breakfast saw that they had Croque Monsieurs on the menu, ordered two but as it was early the lovely owner had yet to make his bechemel. 15 minutes later and I’m eating the tastiest, freshest crouque monsieur I’ve ever eaten. Super friendly service and fantastic food all at bargain price. Would recommend to anyone looking for tasty affordable food.

Stopped by to get coffee on our way to the station. Friendly, helpful owner who even let us taste the coffee so we could get the milkiness to our satisfaction! Fab white chocolate and cranberry cookies too. Will definitely call again on our next trip to Canterbury.

Simply put my wife and I had the best croque monsieurs here all made from scratch owner is friendly and charming. Had Queen on as well while we ate which is always a win!! Will return

Opté por Ham y Brie, y mi compañero Bacon y Brie. Las baguettes eran geniales. También optamos por las galletas recién horneadas y un refresco. Las galletas eran increíbles, especialmente el chocolate blanco y el arándano.Lo mejor de todo es que calificamos para un almuerzo de 5. 50 cada uno y no teníamos idea.Realmente impresionado con el Sandwich Bar: definitivamente volveré en lugar de ir a Pret / Nero / Starbucks, etc.

Greeted with a lovely warm welcome. Great selection of lunch options including a meal deal at a great price. Sandwiches very fresh, good coffee and tasty dessert. Highly recommend.

My favourite cafe in Canterbury. It's like walking into a friend's house. There's always a warm "Bonjour" and the food and coffee is delicious. Laurent and his team are the perfect hosts. If you need further entertaining, ask what dances they can demonstrate :)

We met the owners of this cute little place before in London, where they owned a restaurant near Primrose Hill. The Sandwich Bar has the same lovely atmosphere and the food is delicious. We would absolutely recommend you go there!

My husband and I spent a day in Canterbury and found this charming place in our way to the cathedral. The menu showed such a variety of sanwiches, french food and delicious desserts. Everything was very tasty and the price very reasonable. We enjoyed our lunch and the good service including a nice conversation with the owner. I wish to have a place like this closer to me...Loved it!!

Every time i go there I am greeted by a lovely French couple! always accommodating to my needs, always willing to add/change things to sandwiches and baguettes! very reasonable prices as well. Have tried most of their baguettes and are all amazing! THE COOKIES ARE TO DIE FOR!!! thanks guys xx

This place in Canterbury is so lovely! The food is super delicious, the owner and the staff are super friendly, it's in a central location so very easy to access. It's very accessible as mentioned, especially as I walk around a lot taking photographs of people every day in the city and I need to have a filling lunch not far away. It's a pleasure to go there as everyone is friendly and I even get to practice my French. And you know you can't go wrong when you see the same friendly faces coming again and again to have their lunch there.

All the write ups have said it all already but I thought just add a thanks. We had a great lunch deal..Delicious Sandwich, Pot of Tea and bag of crisps £5.50.. Lots of attention to detail i.e. Spread/butter/none...bread type..salad components...pepper/salt/dressing etc..Tea strength. Great service..tasty food.

As a french tourist, I was really pleased by the kindness of the owner (who comes from France!) and the charm of the waiter. The food is really good, the place confortable... I really recommand it for a delightful lunch!

Always come here for lunch when I'm in Canterbury. Always very good, very simple concept but done well. They serve a range of hot and cold baguettes, all very well priced. Fresh ingredients and very friendly service.

I bought a bacon and brie baguette, got back to the office, opened it up and the bacon within was 4 thin slices from a rasher of back bacon that didn't even add up to 1 whole rasher. Will avoid in future

Looking for a snack when I came across this place. The service was exceptional and nice to be served by someone who was cheery and made the whole experience very pleasant. The baguette was very nice, home made and if you are in Canterbury and you want a baguette I would totally recommend that you visit.

My first time here today - excellent coffee and delicious handmade baguette - i had chicken/rocket & caramelised onions.Laurant was very very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. You won't find better service anywhere else i'm sure!Will be back soon!

Small and friendly with the ever smiling Lauren making the rolls. Handmade to order or select from a wide selection on display. Other treats are there to tempt you from individual salads to cakes and cookies. Coffee and other drinks available. Prices are good compared to other nearby sandwich shops. A very good place with great service.

Was waiting around for the misses in canterbury, and spotted this little gem, and as it was time for lunch we popped into this cosy shop, instantly warmly greeted in french/english big smiles all round, had a bacon brie and cranberry baguette, was delightfull, all freshly prepared and good quality bread and ingredients.if your looking for a great lunch/mid afternoon snack spot this is it.

I went here after I read the reviews .I have been immediately warmly welcomed by the owner and the customers ,all exchanging jokes in a mix of "franglish" ..It s definitely French indeed :the food and the relaxed attitude .I became a regular customer. Voila ..

I discovered The Sandwich Bar one brisk morning while taking a break from filming an independent film project when I walked in looking for a filling lunch.Straight away I was met by the very kind and friendly owner of the shop who told me about the wide variety of sandwiches and snacks they make, all freshly prepared each day and to order.Since that day, I've only returned more frequently, making it a part of my daily routine when stuck deep into work. It is a small, welcoming and friendly place to pick up lunch or a snack and at an absurdly well priced cost. There is no better place in town to acquire delicious food for a long day ahead (the chicken salad baguette is 10/10).In short: a wide variety of sandwiches and snacks at very good prices, made fresh each day by the local business owners: a lovely Frenchman and his partner. It is an affection slice of everything good about a modern society.Thank you for being here. :)

Excellent friendly service, very welcoming :-) The food is delicious and made with care, which really shows not just in the taste but also the presentation! The hot chocolate is lovely and perfect when you need a little pick me up, as are the cookies, yummy! Whatever you feel like be it a snack, sandwich or warm healthy meal they have something for everyone and at reasonable prices, particularly if you do the meal deal. If you eat in your made to feel very comfortable and not rushed at all which is lovely.Would highly recommend :-)

what a great find! we went looking for a sandwich we could eat in the park and found this wonderful little spot just off the high street. The "meal deal" gave us a sandwich, drink and an extra (chips, treat) for a very reasonable rate. but the star was the sandwich itself. when we went back for a second day in a row, we told the owner how much we enjoyed the food the day before. he said " i prepare every sandwich as though it is for me" and it shows. mine was mozzarella and tomato sandwich with olive oil and fresh basil. he plucked the basil from a plant in front of me and chopped beautiful tomatoes as we chatted to make what turned out to be a fantastic lunch.highly recommend this spot!

We happened upon this little, out-of-the way sandwich shop on a quick trip into Canterbury to find some books. Though it is very small, with only a few indoor stools at a counter and one table outside, the sandwiches were tasty, they were made quickly (there are some in the case that are already to take away if you want them), and the proprietor and clerk were very friendly and welcoming. The proprietor/cook is from Paris and very pleasant - even nice about my limited French (they do speak English here, of course). The restaurant also has quiche and other lunchables, as well as soft drinks, water, crisps, etc.

Me and my friends stumbled across this sandwich bar whilst looking for somewhere cheap to eat in Canterbury. We are students here and have never seen it before but now we will definitely go back! The atmosphere is very French, you almost feel as though you're there! The food was fantastic and great value. The owner makes brownies fresh on the day and I highly recommend buying those with the lunch deal.

My daughter was grumpy, she's only four months' old and she wanted a feed. My two year old son was grumpy too and I just really needed a coffee. I stopped here and ordered a latte. I sat outside because my pram is massive and I'm not great at driving it. I was greeted by an extremely jolly man who took my order. He brought the coffee out shortly afterwards and with each sip, I felt my sanity returning. It's the best cup of coffee I have had in years. I wish I had ordered something to eat now! They are also support breastfeeding which is refreshing to see.

I'm always greeted with a bonjour and the owners are so friendly. Looks like they are very proud of this little place. I always have the chicken, bacon and caramelised onion baguette (slightly toasted) on brown. I give it a 10/10I like it so much I've not got anything else on the menu I must try something else I'm sure with the care that goes into the food it would be just as nice :D The prices are reasonable tooI'll be back v soon

What a lovely little place. Went here for aome brunch and it was lovely. Great food, great prices and amazing service. During our 45mins in here at least 5 regulars came in for coffe, food, or a morning greeting; testament to how lovely a local cafe this is.

Followed Tripadvisors advice and sort out this wonderful little bistro. We were even happier when I found that we could have Beautiful Mergez sausage sandwiches as part of a £5 meal deal made up of a wonderful Latte and a first class chocolate and orange brownie. The owner is a lovely chap who made us very welcome as did his wife. Although small, the seating allowed for a quick sit down and a chat about our visits to France. Really wish he would open a branch in Seaford/Brighton.

If I'm in Canterbury and need a quick lunch I always go here. Laurent and team serve a tasty range of baguettes as well as a delicious Croque Monsieur. Friendly service and the homemade cakes are worth checking out if you fancy a treat too.

MmmmmmmI had chicken , bacon , caramelised onion, rocket and tomato granary baguette... So a REAL chicken breast sliced up in front of me, fresh salad on a gorgeous baguette.. Unfortunately I ate it far too quick , regretting not savouring it more. Now I will walk past salivating until my next treat day Friday!!! This place is run by the most welcoming people you'll ever meet in a fast food restaurant! I love that it's a family run place and you simply can't beat their prices. All around excellent and deserving of your business.

I have had many sandwiches in my life. I come from a life where i had a sandwich everyday expect for the holidays for 6 years or even more. I have tried a lot of "Chicken curry sandwich, BLT, one that is so complicated that im not sure what there was in it" and most of them where good, some of them where awful. But a year ago I was walking around Canterbury with my girlfriend and she was craving a sandwich we went in and right away the owner greeted us with a big smile, and since i speak french we spoke for about 20 minutes since then it started every week i would go there and we would speak while he made the sandwiches.AND everytime ... he would put so much care into a simple tomato mozzarella sandwich that made it so much better. He carefully sliced every tomato and every slice of mozzarella. To this day his roasted chicken breast with caramelised onions, salad and mayo is my favourite thing to have during lunch. Said that dont go there if you dont have much time because it will take a while, but that waiting time is worth it. Take my word

I've been here time and time again and I can't fault this place. The baguettes are incredible and so reasonably priced, very simple but incredibly fresh and completely delicious.The service from the couple that work here is also flawless, always greeted with a smile and they always remember you.Cannot recommend enough!

Like many other reviews I found this place through TripAdvisor: it came up as the #4 restaurant in Canterbury and I was intrigued. On my first visit I popped in for a quick salad and pot of tea. The prawn salad was lovely: fresh, good quality ingredients and reasonably priced. The tea was fine and the chocolate orange cake utterly divine. The shop is tiny but has five or six stools with space to eat along two counters and has a lovely little bench and table outdoors. The owner, Laurent, was delightfully friendly to everyone who came in and, judging from the number of passing people who stuck their heads through the door to say hello, is clearly a well-loved fixture of Canterbury life. I came back a few days later with two of my children for chocolate croissants (them) and coffee (me) and, again, it was impeccable. This time we met Monica, Laurent's wife, and later on their toddler son. It's a delightful little place with wonderful food and friendly, chatty owners. Recommended for anyone who fancies a decent sandwich or salad for lunch, a quick coffee and cake, or who wants to indulge in a Nutella-stuffed croissant. Oh, and I also came away with a recommendation for a novel to read by Houellebecq. Can't argue with that sort of service!

A wonderful recommendation from Trip Advisor - we wouldn't have known about the Sandwich Bar otherwise. For a quick, low cost, high quality lunch this place is just the ticket. The owners are a such warm, friendly couple, it's not surprising that it's so highly recommended. The £3 lunch deal is well worth it!!!

Went to the sandwich bar last Friday, having seen excellent TripAdvisor reviews. WOW! This was the best customer service I have ever received in my entire life. My visit made me smile from the beginning to end. Shopkeeper is so nice and genuine, and makes excellent sandwiches too! I had smoked salmon (with extra complementary prawn), and my son had tuna, egg and tomato. Both sandwiches were so delicious, very reasonably priced, and I had a great conversation with Lorrence while enjoying the sandwich, as if I was talking to an old friend. Very highly recommended!

I started working for lloyds bank and went there for lunch one day to try how their food was. Really tasty fresh food and a wide variety of choices and all in affordable prices. The lovely couple Lorrence and Monica always gives me great services and genuilnely talks to me about my life. Really worth going, it will brighten your day.

We visited The Sandwich Bar at the end of St Margaret's Street for coffee and cake. There is a table outside to sit in the sun whilst enjoying the freshly made cake and wonderful coffee expertly made by the French owner and his wife. They also make sandwiches and salads which we didn't try, but looked fantastic. If you want to avoid the tourist cafes and eat good food with locals try The Sandwich Bar.

Bought lunch here a couple of times while in Canterbury on holiday, once eating in and once take-away. The orders were freshly made while we waited and consequently the food was fresh and oh so tasty. A fairly limited choice but if you can't find tasty light lunch options there, you won't be satisfied anywhere. Coffee was great and the owners are very personable people.

Found this place using past reviews on TA and wasn't disappointed. Received a great welcome from the owner and his partner. Nothing was too much trouble. Was guided through the menu and settled for a Brie, tomato and basil baguette. Then watched it being put together with great attention to detail. Not a pre prepared, cling film rapped baguette in sight! Almost too good to eat. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Canterbury. A pleasure to add my 5 star rating to all the others.Il est magnifique

Monica's soups were the best i've ever tried. She is very kind, friendly and spending your time there is a real pleasure. As per the name, this establishment mainly sells sandwiches. Made right in front of you, with locally sourced produce, these are the best sandwiches Canterbury has to offer! The owner is very friendly, and it is a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend it! The meal deal is very good. £5 will get you a sandwich, a drink and either a small cake or a pack of crisps.It is very small, so if you are in a large group you wouldn't be able to eat inside. However, if there are only a couple of you there is space to sit inside or a table outside.

My wife and myself visited the Sandwich bar feeling rather delicate after Easter Sunday drinks and what a difference wondeful service and an amazingly good fresh baguette can do. We were warmly greeted with a big smile and a bit of French, the service was so personal and it was very refreshing to see everything being freshly hand made and the owner to have such pride and pasion in what he was serving. Both of our baguettes were warmly baked and my wife had whistable sausage and after many mmmmms whilst eating it said it was one of the nicest baguettes she has had, it is also great to know that the sausages are locally resourced. I had chicken, with caramelised onions and salad and it was devine with fresh chicken breast so none of the usual processed fillings that you get in so many sandwich places.We will be visting again to try more of the menu and look forward to another bon appetit :-)

We really like this place, just wish there was a bit more seating as it is very hit or miss as to whether you can eat in there. Wish them the best of luck!

I have been going to the Sandwich Bar for years - since before Laurent took it over; the previous owner and his stream of work experience kids were great craic. The did satay chicken sandwiches just how I like them for years. Regrettably this gent died; I'd never have forgiven Laurent for taking it off the menu if his own menu wasn't so awesome. Great selection, fresh ingredients, perfectly reasonable prices. If Laurent listened to the rugby and began having the hairdresser chap next door in for football chats, it'd be perfect.

Perfect brunch on a rainy Saturday. Croque monsieur served by a real live monsieur and the best sandwich ever for my son.

I regularly visit the Sandwich Bar in Canterbury for my usual mozzarella, tomato and basil baguette. Not only is the food of impeccable standard and quality, so to are the owners. Regardless of how busy they are, they always make a real effort to greet you and converse with you. The Sandwich Bar deserves every success. A perfect little eatery.

try a couple of the Nutella croissants, they are lovely. Friendly staff here too, very authentic french.
