Phoebes in Canterbury

We came for lunch and I shared a coronation chicken baguette and a cheese and onion omelette with my wife. The quality was super especially the omelette which was so light and fluffy. My only complaint is I would have liked more of it!

We stumbled across this cafe as we were staying at the Premier Inn, and they easily accommodated a group of 8of us. Happy to move the tables in the courtyard to suit our requests. Yummy breakfasts all round. Would highly recommend. Polite and friendly staff.

Lovely food; polite, helpful staff; very reasonably priced; small court yard garden area which is a bit of a sun trap but parasols were available. Gluten free chocolate banana cake was delicious.

Stopped in for a late breakfast, sat in the outside courtyard (very relaxing) The full breakfast was exactly what we needed with a great cup of coffee. Nice place, nice food and best of all nice people

We discovered this hidden gem on our recent visit to Canterbury. We were very happy we chose this venue. Lesley and her team made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. I would describe this venue as eating in the family kitchen. Wonderful food , wonderful ambiance

We had a lovely afternoon tea for my birthday recently,there was a lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes, Lesley and her staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble,well worth a visit.

Loved our lunch here! Great location with a cozy feel. The food and cakes were delicious, and the staff were so kind and accommodating. Would love to visit again.

Lovely little place, I'd been wanting to go for a while now thanks to the rave reviews and it did not disappoint :) Got a sandwich and a hot chocolate w/cream for the same price point you'd find at a corporate chain, only a whole lot nicer! Both in quality of ingredients and service. The staff are very friendly. The kind of cafe you want to return and bring your friends to, which I plan to do!

Ten of us went for breakfast and morning coffee, we booked in advance, and had an absolutely lovely time

My Wife and I had been going into Phoebes for quite some time, always enjoying the lovely lunch selection, afternoon tea and amazing cakes on offer. We loved it all so much we asked the wonderful owner (Lesley) if she could make our cakes for our wedding. She was more than happy to accept and provided us with the most wonderful wedding cake and cupcakes, they really stole the show on the big day. Lesley made the whole process really easy on us and was happy to work with whatever we wanted, we even got to do a little cake tasting! We are so grateful for everything Lesley has done for us and our big day, and we will always be happy customers returning back to Phoebes for more sandwiches and afternoon teas!

Amazing. Tucked away, in Ivy Lane. Worth leaving hustle and bustle of main shopping streets. Large breakfast set me up for the day!

If you go to Canterbury, you absolutely have to stop at Phoebes! Sweet, savory... in short, excellent recipes (I particularly recommend the cheesecakes). A very warm welcome! Only very good memories. I'm looking forward to seeing you again

We came here due to high Google reviews. And Google delivered. We had cream tea, taste amazing, especially the cream, wow. And the ladies who run this tea room are so lovely. And the price is very reasonable. I would definately recommend this place.

Yesterday we had a wonderful afternoon tea at Phoebe's. We were there to celebrate my mother's birthday and she was a bit overwhelmed by it all. Lesley and Lana made us feel very welcome. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all super fresh, homemade and very tasty. The chocolate and orange cake was delicious. We thoroughly recommend Phoebe's to anyone!

As a local, Phoebes is my go-to place when I want to have coffee or lunch out with a friend. Everything is fresh and beautifully presented, and I'm not a cake person but they do look rather appealing! The welcome is always very warm and inclusive too and the service is excellent. I'm autistic and struggle with the noise and activity of the larger chains in town so the smaller, calm space of Phoebes really suits me. Also, I regularly meet with a trans friend at Phoebes because I know that it's a safe and comfortable place for both of us, and she has never felt anything other than valued by the staff. I cannot recommend Phoebes highly enough if you want coffee and cake or a light lunch, and especially if you want it in an olde worlde venue. They offer such great quality and value - and a big smile!

Good quality Foods, great service

We've been looking for a place to have a cozy afternoon tea and have absolutely made the right choice! The staff was very friendly, attentive and nice. There is a great selection of teas and coffees, both of which come with free refills when paired with afternoon tea. With many sandwiches to choose from and two delicious slices of cake per person it makes for a great late lunch, so make sure you haven't eaten beforehand. The scones are very good too, you may choose between a fruit or plain one. Takeout boxes are available in case of leftovers so nothing gets wasted.

Great little place to grab a coffee and slice of cake coffee is great as is the food all homemade can't recommend enough

Limited range of cakes so had scones, which were good. Clean and comfortable with covered garden area.

We came to the pub next door for dinner and my wife noticed this cafe so when we visited nearby St Martin's church we stopped here for a coffee which was very nice. The cafe is very comfortable and well appointed and we will find an excuse to come back for food.

Popped in for lunch at Phoebes, & we have a ham salad & bacon, Brie & cranberry baguette with a cold drink & then coffee all was freshly made & tasted delicious, coffee was a lovely flavour, all in all a very nice experience with staff warm & friendly.

We came here on our visit to canterbury as I prefer going to independent places especially in the current climate. We were not disappointed one bit, the service was amazing and the staff were so friendly. We returned on our next visit and we had the same service again. I know we will be returning on our next. Their baguettes are lovely and their espresso is amazing. I would thoroughly reccomend visiting here!

Been to phoebe's a few times, they offer a great range of home made cakes a wonderful afternoon tea that me and my partner have treated my mum too on a couple of occasions. Also what I must say is the best omelette in canterbury its sooo good!!! With an amazingly colourful salad. Definitely worth a visit.

Found this little gem when searching online for cafe's in Canterbury near town Centre. Just five minute walk from bus station. Friendly staff. Fresh food, reasonably priced.

Once again a fabulous breakfast and we were made very welcome such a friendly team and so nice to support a local individual business. Every thing is cooked fresh and served lovely and hot plenty of tea in lovely china cups and tea pots special little touches and mountains of toast. We had a quick look at cafes in Canterbury on the journey down. There were a couple that we thought sounded good but chose Phoebes as it was quite close to where we were parking. We were not disappointed. The waitress was lovely and welcoming. We chose 4 meals, varying from a jacket potato to a bacon baguette and a selection of hot drinks. We didn’t have to wait long for the food even though the cafe was busy. The food was all presented well with the salad dressing in a pot to the side. The food was that nice we plan to go back before we leave!

Great food and service. This is our first visit to Canterbury and phoebes was the first cafe we stopped in. We are not disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. We plan on visiting again for the cake or scones as they looked amazing! They are also dog friendly.

we had lovely paninis a huge pot of tea. lovely little place and the atmosphere was friendly even though it wasn't very busy. The food was simple but tasty, and exactly what we needed for a light lunch before exploring the town. The potatoes smelt amazing so might have to come back another time! I would recommend.

We visited Phoebes for breakfast, and undeniably top marks in all categories!! The food was delicious, the atmosphere in the small courtyard was great, but the service from the staff stands out .... probably the most welcoming, pleasant and helpful I have experienced in my 63 years!! I ended up here without looking it up- was just walking down the street and thought that it looked like a nice place for a coffee. When I came in though, the daily special listed on the board, a Mediterranean vegetable tart caught my eye. Absolutely fantastic. And the coffee was great too.

If you're looking for a cafe away from the city centre then go here. There is a sun trapped garden and dog friendly too. Good range of food and perfect for lunch meeting with friends. Can book too.

I had a small full english breakfast, it was huge, many of the family had combinations not on the menu, which they willingly supplied. Many thanks to Phoebes, you really looked after us.

All reasonably priced. Delicious homemade cakes, perfect with my Americano. Fantastic customer service and the owner was lovely. 14/04/21- My 7 year old daughter was so happy with yesterday’s visit, she insisted we came back again today. The food and service is excellent again and the space is Covid secure with a lovely sun trap court yard. Lots of space and social distance with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Firstly we were looking for the place to have a coffee inside as bit cold day, and where dogs are allowed. Google suggested that cafe, so off we went. on the way there we had decided actually it a lunch time, so we had food here. and it was a fantastic choice! lovely salad to come with the lunches and not typical boring one, but nice and tasty one!! Love this place, friendly, comfortable and good food. Fantastic outdoor space is an added bonus. Staff are really friendly (Not sure what previous reviewer was on about). The place is always spotless. It's difficult enough running a business but negative reviews that are not justified are really unnecessary! Used to visit when it was 'Nadine's'; the menu doesn't seem to have changed but ownership/staff have. Food is poor and the staff unfriendly. It used to be spotless, now every surface in the loo is thick with dust. Won't be returning.
