The Salmon has been refurbished and is now a pleasant place to enjoy your drink (the beer was always good, but it used to be very scruffy). They have eight cask ales on hand pull and they are all very well kept. The cheese and onion cobs are very nice too!

Dropped in after getting off the bus at St Margaret's (it was a freezing cold day) as we heard it had been refurbished. Really nice interior, 12 handpumps and varied selection at a good price. Good cheese and onion cob to keep us going. Definitely will be back.

First visit since it was refurbished which has opened the place up, but not necessarily in a good way. Atmosphere seemed a little flat and unwelcoming. On arrival I had to wait at an empty bar for 5 minutes before someone arrived to serve me. In that time I’d selected a beer to try only to be told it was no longer on lime a few others in the digital board. This left a pretty weak selection to go for, all of which I’d had else where. So had just the one and left. To be fair the beer quality was pretty good though.

El Salmón se encuentra cerca de la estación de autobuses y está a unos tres cuartos de milla a pie de la estación de tren. Había venido aquí hace unos años y descubrí que había sido renovado desde esa visita. Todavía había una buena elección de cerveza y un montón de asientos cómodos. Disfrutamos de las enormes mazorcas de queso y cebolla que se ofrecen. Hubo un concurso de pub en curso y fue bueno ver a los lugareños disfrutando de él.

Did not ask about food but it was a nice pub a nice pint and a good atmosphere.

The Salmon has quickly become probably my favourite pub in Leicester. A real old school homely feeling to the place with very welcoming and friendly staff + a great beer garden for the warmer days. Beer is always good and the cheese and onion cobs are the number one reason I keep coming back!

Very cosy pub with a good selection of real ales. Sometimes a fire is burning and they have games and darts. They do not really have food, but you can get a nice cheese cob with a big slice of onion on it.

Ive become the Salmons newest 'regular' drinker. Without doubt the best pub in Leicester City area. West Country ales seldomn seen outside of Birmingham area, recommend the Fireside ale its a really great tasty pint of real ale. The cobs are also excellent. Throw in live sport without the yob factor sports bar, the easy but vibrant atmosphere is welcoming.

Refurbished last year it seems, now just one open room, doesn't feel like the back street pub it used to. Music playing and sports on TV.s

Great pub, great atmosphere, well worth a visit, especially as part of a pub crawl.

Absolutely great if you are a regular, but it has it's quiet times and it's busy times when the matches are on. But great staff and they are trying their best to really welcome new people in. So give it a go because the ales are really good so if you are a real ale drinkers this is a must!! And the cobs are amazing too!

After many years, a revisit to this hidden watering hole confirms that it is still one of the best pubs in the city centre. It's about 5-10 minutes walk away from the main shopping areas, but well worth the effort to seek out for the log fire, calm atmosphere and decent real ales.

Nice refurbished. Will be in again. Just had beer so can't comment on food.

First time visit today, just a quick pint, have to say what a little gem, service, beers ( 13 real ales ) atmosphere. Log fire, will definitely be back for a proper drink, made to feel very welcome. Why have we not found this before, lovely clean cosy pub.

The new refurb looks great, feels very comfy and clean. We were served by a lovely irish man who was very polite and accommodating! Garden looks great and working heaters are a plus. Will come again.

I did not have any food,just popped in for a drink. Lovely ambiance friendly pub,served by a pleasant and friendly Lithuanian barman.

After the last review and hoping for better things after a re-fit a return visit was made. The refit is substantial in both format and design but banquet seating is debatable as one person seems to occupy a lot of space. The very poor famous cob”s are still a shadow of their previous standards. Worse still the beer was in poor condition. The manages seem unconcerned and have their own little group annoying customers watching the sport Sadly the last visit after years of enjoying one of Leicesters pubs.

The quantity and quality of both cheese rolls and beer is not that of previous visits. Cheese almost not there and RED onion Beer over pulled. Come on guys let’s get back to standards.

An old man's pub. Poor barman service, he was more interested in sitting with his friends & a very poor choice of drinks

Local locals pub with oodles of atmosphere. Great selection of whiskeys! Free juke box Friday night... but the pizzas are out of this world! Italian origin + original italian pizza maker! 2 Italian mechanics from UCI world champs made comment on the genuine feel! Not a quiet pub but busting with energy!

Food is basically cobs and snacks. Note, they don't serve meals. Ale selection is always excellent, and there's always at least one dark ale/stout/porter, which is my personal preference. Also included are big name favourites, lager, cider etc. Location is nicely tucked away, but it's a easy 5 minute walk from the clock tower. Staff are pleasant, atmosphere is 'old school English pub'. There's sometimes music but it's never overbearing. It's probably my favourite Leicester pub.

Proper Pub good selection of beers and the best cheese and onion cobs ever.

They have Fireside bitter which is Black Country ale's equivalent of Pedigree.

If you want a good quality real ale and an authentic pub experience, this is the only place to go in the city. Best selection of ales. In changing times, it like going back to 1986, and there is nothing wrong with that

Comfortable Black country ales pub, tucked away on a back street close to the highcross shopping centre, the beers are a bit hit and miss, throuput does not justify the amount of ales on the bar, and quality suffers as a result, with some beers kept on well past their prime.

An unspoilt, comfortable and welcoming pub. Friendly staff and a good range of Black Country real ales. Good, cheap cobs and other snacks. This place deserves to be supported, there are far too few of this type of pub left. It's a real gem, if you're in the area you should do yourself a favour, call in and take a few minutes to unwind and appreciate the quiet.

A pub where time seems to have stood still.A wonderful original red flag tiled floor,an enclosed garden a place to spend a quiet hour with a pint and a cheese and onion cob.

Friendly locals, extensive variety of ales, beautiful beer garden and plenty of decent screens to watch the game. By all accounts, The Salmon is what most pubs, anywhere in the U.K, should aspire to be. And I can see how it got there. The pub’s landlord, Alex, is incredibly sharp and witty person, he has a great bit of patter with the patrons and has an in depth knowledge on footy or cricket; in addition to that, it’s clear to see that he (and all the staff) are extremely hardworking people (and they make a mean hot pork bap n’all). We had a grand time. I’ll certainly be back, thank you very much for the warm hospitality and cheers to The Salmon!

Decent pub here. Had a few beers here and enjoyed the garden

Not been here for a few years as moved out of the city. Popped into to watch the Tigers. Had a great selection of stouts, & light beers, that were kept in first class condition. I will always return for a cheeky one when in Leicester.

Always a great range of beers in this historic pub full of decorative fittings from its Banks's days. Sometimes very busy!

A proper pub, well managed with a range of good beers and some original features from when it was built. Worth a visit. Sandwiches/rolls available.
