The Royal Toby in Rochdale

Lovely venue. Good for carnivores but boring for vegetarians/vegans. We don't all love mushrooms! Mushroom ravioli with huge chunks of mushrooms and mushroom sauce was just overkill. The large chunks are not needed.

Went to the Valentines Night Dinner last night. The whole experience was absolutely superb. We decided to stay the night and the booking in process ( around 5 pm) was excellent. A lovely, polite young lady on reception welcomed us and fully explained the procedures for the evening. The room was good and the little touch of rose petals and chocolates on our bed was really nice. The Rhydding room was decorated superbly, red heart ❤️ shaped balloons on every table ensured that the feel for the whole evening was set. The entertainment was first class. Thank you Royal Toby for making our Valentines Dinner so memorable. See you next year.

What’s not to love about a cosy pub with log fires, superb dining in the beautiful restaurant or the on site amazing Italian restaurant! The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped . The staff are just amazing !! So kind ,helpful , friendly and accommodating . The best value for money for food , ambience and high quality accommodation . I love my visits here.

Booked a table for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent and the service exemplary, along with a great atmosphere. Everyone who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Highly recommended!

Lynsey and Rachel are fab and deserve all the praise especially Rachel! The older gentleman who greets you is a jobs worth and tried to hard.. he basically told me off because I forgot to mention we would need a high chair, then made a fuss about our seating arrangement- all my family was confused as this wasn’t a issue for any of us so should not of been a issue to him. He was very picky- came over to a child asking can he tuck his chair in so people could get past (there was plenty of room, enough to fit a bus through actually) and nobody was passing us! Complete jobs worth and made our experience uncomfortable as he was making issues out of nothing.. Drinks was flat but got replaced when we mentioned it but came back the exact same so I think maybe it’s just the barrel. Food was nice but menu is misleading, we very nearly ordered extra veg and Yorkshire’s for everyone as it doesn’t state on the menu that the roast come with them but the waitress informed us that you get them with the meal. The experience was nice apart from the older gentleman who I’m presuming is the manager so for this I wouldn’t come back in a hurry.

Food was fabulous and great value for money. Lovely restaurant with nice atmosphere and attentive staff.

Can't fault this place. it's brilliant. Been here 3 times and all 3 times the steak has been perfect and service exceptional.

Gorgeous hotel, one of the best for sure!! I stay away for work a lot and this hotel has everything I needed. Easy to get find, has a car park, has beautiful big clean rooms, and has Netflix which was a bonus!! The food is amazing!! You have the choice of two restaurants which both have amazing menus which made it really hard to choose between the two!! And a perfect fry up in the morning. Lastly every staff member we encountered were absolutely lovely and always helpful. Would recommend the royal Toby to anyone staying in the area.

Great Sunday lunch experience. We were well looked after and not rushed in any way but food arrived when we wanted it, plenty of it, high quality couldn't fault it and will go again.

Booked two days ago for Sunday for 4 adults + child for 12.00, plenty of parking, the restaurant was empty, straight to our table, great menu, we had 4 starters, 3 Sunday roast lunches +fish&chips, 3 beers, Diet Coke, mineral water, soft drink, 3 pints of beer, a child’s 2 course menu and 3 desserts, £119 + tip BRILLIANT Great service, hot food, great value As we left at 13.40 the restaurant was full Will definitely return, thankyou

Just had a meal and I must say the food received failed to justify price paid. Very bland. Prawn Cocktail should be renamed Shredded Lettuce Leaf Bowl ! Lamb Kofta Burger very poor indeed. Service couldn't be faulted..but I went for a meal and it was the food that let it down hence the feedback. Won't be rushing back.

We celebrated our wedding with 15 close family and friends in the Study. The whole day was fabulous, room set up, food and drink, and service. It was faultless.

Not stayed in the hotel, but this is a great place to eat, excellent staff and reasonably priced, quality food. We had an issue with one of the meals on our recent visit and the management quickly and professionally rectified this. Been multiple times before and always go back on special occasions 10/10.

My family have been coming here for birthday celebrations, weddings even funerals for more than 40 years, so to see the present menu all I can say is disappointing. I myself have worked in the industry for nearly 25 years and the quality of the building and atmosphere is fantastic with excellent service from the staff but this was a very poor menu and no better than a glorified pub grub. The meals were all hot served on warmed plates which is so refreshing to see and all the meals hot but the lack of imagination put into the selection was poor. With the competition as it is today, a more enlightened approach is needed.

This place has been a family favourite for many years. The food and the service is consistently very good . The quality and choice on the menu makes each visit enjoyable. The staff are always helpful and understand the needs of the customers. I have had a very pleasant afternoon.

Amazing roast dinners! Good for gluten free options for both starters and desserts (sticky toffee pudding and brownie!) Will visit again and would recommend. They do a 2 course or 3 course offer which is god value for money.

Plenty of safe monitored parking,warm welcome at reception, bar and restaurant. Used for work trip, would recommend and definitely return again.

Now Mrs Bradley We got married at The Royal Toby Hotel on Saturday 30/3/24 Lots of our guests travelled to be with us from as far as Essex and Durham to Castleton (Manchester area) Most guests stayed for 2nights and were extremely impressed by the bedrooms and decor Our wedding was held in their function room The Rhyddings Suite , where we had our ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party 🥳 The staff - the cleaner, chambermaid, reception staff, amazing bar staff and fantastic waiters & waitresses were so attentive, polite, and helpful especially with our two disabled guests (wheelchair users) Also Alan the resident DJ for keeping our party going into the early hours and not forgetting Alan our Toast Master for keeping things running smoothly 🤩 Child friendly also The food was absolutely delicious from the canapés, wedding breakfast, evening buffet and the midnight butties. 🤩 A HUGH THANK YOU TO EVERYONE ESPECIALLY CHELSEA, JOE & NINA 🥰 for helping our dream day happen ❤️

Very nice Sunday lunch had a problem with a spoon being dirty but the situation was rectified immediately and a amount knocked off the bill for inconvenience it's how you deal with problems that count and the royal Toby dealt with it professionally thank you

We have been going to the Royal toby for years and it never disappoints. We have had so many family celebrations over the years and we have never had a bad meal or bad experience. The same goes for last night. We celebrated my dad's 66th birthday. The food was delicious as always and the service was outstanding. Out waitresses had a joke with us all, very attentive and made my dad feel special. We had a fantastic family meal made better by the service we had. The maitre de made sure we were very well looked after. We even introduced the waitresses to a family favourite 'fifteens' as dad's birthday cake. Can not fault the place and will be back for more family celebrations without a doubt.

I hadn’t been here for many years. The food was always very good and likewise the service etc… What can I say, all this is just the same with actually what I would call improvements. The food standards are still impeccable, however the service for me is even better. I say this because it’s actually much more relaxed and down to earth. I personally think this is a good thing. Well done guys! Absolutely brilliant!

Booked for a birthday treat, very cold day we was seated in a rather impressive dining room, the food was amazing and the staff couldn't do enough to help us. We didn't finish all the food and they boxed it up for us to take home. Very reasonable price would definitely recommend and will be revisiting soon

We visited Royal Toby Restaurant with friends for Sunday Lunch. On arrival the staff were very welcoming & friendly and service excellent. The meal was delicious. We definitely would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

We were a group of 12 seated in the Rhydings Suite on Boxing Day we had a brilliant afternoon. The food was excellent and very good value for money. The service from the staff was also spot on. The room was beautifully decorated and is a great venue. We loved the way tables were spaced out and no attempt was made to cram people in. Thanks to all the bar staff and serving staff who made this a lovely afternoon.

Five of us attend a Christmas party night. We were greeted by friendly and polite staff. The room was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The food was delicious and served hot. The staff could not do enough to help. The dj did a couple of ice breaker games and he played excellent music throughout the evening. Thoroughly recommend their party nights.

We were here for dad's 80th birthday meal,twenty of us in total,the place was already busy when we arrived,not only with the restaurant but looked like they had a wedding function on as well.. A quick drink from the bar,we found our party before being shown to our table,nice room & decor,with a traditional feeling. I had already taken a look at the menu online,so had an idea of what i wanted,looking again,i went for the Lancashire hot pot,served with steamed vegetables (could have done with another few minutes) the wife went for a chicken burger,asking for plain chicken breast,which wasn't a problem,my daughters had cheese burgers (please don't toast the brioche buns/a little bit burnt) these came with fries The rest of the party went for quite a variety from the menu,cheese pies,steak,chicken kiev's ribs All good as far as i can tell,then desserts,we shared a sticky toffee pudding & custard,no coffees Then a quick rendition of Happy Birthday,with cake & candle..taken away,wrapped to go. The staff were great,very helpful & very pleasant,as you'd expect,especially as busy as it was,Thank You..

I have to start with the food - it's nothing short of excellent and great value! The staff were fabulous too - it was clear to see that they gelled together. The bedroom was clean, smart and contemporary (though the TV small and in an awkward place - it doesn't face the bed and doesn't angle). I was in an even room number on the ground floor. The view was of commercial bins (which could be hidden) and frustratingly they were used loudly at 11pm and 6am. But for them this would have been a 5* rating. On check in the Reception staff promised they were only used between 9-5.

We’re regulars to The Royal Toby and have visited at different times of the day & different days of the week, it has been consistently very good & is one of our favourite local restaurants. The menu is huge & we’ve tried a lot of it, portions are a good size & the quality has always been excellent. Favourites amongst our family are the pies, the fish & chips & the mixed grill (one of the best we’ve ever had!). What really makes this place our go to is the staff, who are brilliant. There are lots of them & they’ve very attentive & so helpful if you have questions or need an amendment. On our recent visit, there were 10 of us in the lovely semi private room at the back. We were served by a few different people & I’m sorry I didn’t catch their names, but I know Denise was one of them as she’s served us several times. They work so hard & are so lovely, a huge thanks from us!

Bread with soup rock hard. Roasters hard. Veg cold. Not good overall. Service ok but did bring someone else’s drinks order to our table. 2 in our party of 10 were poorly after meal. Rush to toilet poorly, another 2 was but not as bad. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be revisiting.

The food, service and décor were all first class at the Royal Toby as we visited for a birthday meal. Our party of 7, including 3 generations of the family all loved the experience in the attractive setting that manages to combine classic style with an attentive and warm team of staff. We ate from the Seasonal Special menu which we found to be decent value at £22.50 for 2 courses. I had soup of the day for starters which was tomato. It was delicious, much thicker than tinned soup and the temperature was just right - warm but not piping hot so I didn't have to be concerned about burning my mouth. For my main course I had The Toby Grill (a 6oz chicken breast, gammon, sausage, black pudding, vine tomato and watercress). This came with the choice of new potatoes, chips or fries. I picked new potatoes. The various meats were generally good with the chicken succulent, the sausage tasty and clearly of a high quality and the only slight disappointment was that the gammon was a bit fatty. This did not spoil what was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience though.

Took our daughter and her family for lunch to celebrate her 40th birthday at The Royal Toby. The staff where very hospitable although there was a bit of confusion over the wording of the menu when looking at the early bird or the seasonal 2 and 3 course menu, this was rectified by the waitress over the information provided by bar staff. Had a lovely, but average meal, but was surprised when the bill came to only find the price of the food on the menu was not what you paid, so a £119 ?? bill then became a £142 ?? there was an additional 20% VAT added which was not obvious on the menu. We would just like to make people aware of this. On this occasion it wasn't problem to us, but there was also a 10% gratuity on top of this if you wished to tip the staff, which ordinarily we would have willing done. Perhaps it would be a good idea to up the cost of the meal on the menu to include the 20% VAT before hand.

Dinner was not what was expected. The 18-hour steak and ale pie was dry and unappetising. The pastry was hard and, quite frankly, not what was expected at a hotel of this ilk.

Very disappointed with the Sunday dinner, always been very good in the past, fresh ingredients cooked well but yesterday we really noticed changes have been made, frozen vegetables, smaller portions, prawn cocktail half the size of previous visits. 2 frozen roast potatoes, a spoonfull of packet made mash. 2 florets of broccoli. Julien carrots all out of a freezer bag. I asked the waitress why have they started using frozen veg and she replied "I think they always have" They definitely haven't and they need to go back to how it used to be.

Good mainly English dishes cooked to a high standard. Menu quite extensive if perhaps a little light on fish dishes. A very nice "classic" dining room where the staff are very attentive and efficient.

Dissapointed sorry. I feel that the restaurant is not as good as it used to be. The whole experience is somehow lacking now compared to what it used to be like. Todays meals were a starter of ribs and also prawn cocktails. They were nice and we had great expectations for the mains. Steak had to be sent back as we ordered medium rare but it was more medium well, the replacement was better cooked but found it to be to fatty, my missus did not finish it. Found the house special burger to be too dry, that’s both the burger and the bun it was served on, as well as lacking in seasoning, nope I never finished it. The main ribs for our friend was only half eaten too due to it being too fatty. In the past the Toby had been the place to go. You do seem to have lost your way unfortunately. The staff were attentive though and Carried out their jobs very well. The plates and left over food were cleared away and we were asked did we enjoy our food! We politely told them it was ok and not like it used to be, we were asked if we wanted deserts to which we said no, then within a couple of minutes the bill was placed on our table (we hadn’t asked for the bill though) but a lovely gesture from the front of house who came over and spoke to us and told us he’d given us a reduction on our meal as he had noticed that the ribs were fatty too. As the bill did arrive with out us asking for it then the royal Toby had lost Out on us ordering more drinks. So we decided to just go. Hopefully the next time we visit we will see an improvement and that Todays visit was just a minor glitch

The Royal Toby Restaurant is a delight. From the building itself to the welcoming Maitre D on the front reception and then the atmosphere of the restaurant itself with the beautiful table settings. The service I could not fault along with the friendliness of the staff. The menu was extensive and the food good. I recommend this place to dine in Rochdale.

First visit to the Royal Toby , very impressed with the venue, lovely surroundings and very good attentive staff. Had the 3 course special menu at £25, good choice of food and very well presented and cooked. Good sized portions and could not fault the food, very enjoyable Tuesday evening tea / dinner, in fact so good we booked again for a group of friends for the following day, thanks guys, highly recommended.

Went for afternoon tea with my son…treated for a belated Mother’s Day treat. Sandwiches cream scones & cakes are lovely took some home as couldn’t finish as very filling. Service excellent as always just love this place
