Great food and spectacularly view on a sunny day.

Visited this place today for the first time. Myself and my 19 year old son really enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning. Everything was excellent! I had the lamb shank & my son had the steak. We both thought the was excellent. 👍

First time visiting here booked a table for my mother in laws birthday when we arrived they had put a nice message on a board saying happy birthday which was nice. The staff were all friendly and kind food was incredible we had starters spinach and potato soup main course the beef Sunday dinner and for dessert chocolate brownie. Prices for food were good and you get a lot. Definitely be going again. The pub itself is so nice very clean parking outside nice views going to be visiting here again in summer so we can sit outside.

Old school look with roaring fire had buffet for a friends funeral was well presented tasted great also scoured main menu will be returning for a meal under better circumstances

From pulling up to the car park, to sitting down to the views, & then sitting with friends having a Cheeky tipple & something to eat, the whole experience & atmosphere was lovely. It's a beautiful, warm & friendly pub, set in a stunning location.

Decent spot for a pint, but the prices are a bit steep for what you get. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are friendly.

Amazing atmosphere with quality food and beers. Lot of sitting options. I visited with my friends and believe me , it was my best cafe experience soo far. If you want to spend quality time , do visit in evening.

I booked a table for 5 as it was my mother's 70th birthday. Atmosphere was relaxed the server's were attentive and really looked after us, we all had a starter followed by a main, and the food was fantastic can't fault anything, they even made an effort with a slice of cake and candle for my mother and sang happy birthday. This was our first visit but it won't be the last. The staff were fantastic and a credit to the company 👏 thank you

The Pack Horse is a fantastic pub. Tried their new menu tonight, love fish pie and so fed up of being disappointed but not tonight. The fish pie was delicious and my husband's meal was also delicious. The staff are always polite and welcoming. Would highly recommend this pub ! 🥂🍷

There is nothing better than going for a nice walk in birtle and then stopping for a beer at the park horse....sometimes there are cyclists there, other times rides and their horses....lovely beer garden with a great feel. Staff and food are great too

My wife and I just had the worst meal out in our entire life. Fish and chips with cremated frozen fish. Never eat here again.

Added to all the above, the views from the conservatory were so beautiful, rolling hills, tractors working and horses - a truly special time with family.

We have been coming here for years for family celebrations and we visited recently to celebrate a family birthday. The new refurbishments are really nice, especially in the conservatory. The wine is also good and quite reasonably priced, and the settings are so lovely, you can have some brilliant country walks nearby. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the food on this occasion. The fish was very overcooked as it was very dry and flaky and had hardly any fish inside the batter. The batter was very hard, somebody could have damaged their teeth it was that overcooked. The chips were nice though. I didn't have dessert there on this occasion. The service was mostly good. I will still visit as it's a lovely pub, I just hope they focus on their food more, maybe it's because we were a big party and they had lots to cook at once but I hope the quality improves.

Beer inconsistent and overpriced.

Timeless British pub, but kept pace with changing tastes and requirements. Great selection of JW Lees beers and others. Very decent menu. Excellent value and an enjoyable evening. Highly recommended 👌

First time coming here for date night and it didn’t disappoint! Gorgeous cosy atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Nice traditional pub. The food was excellent and reasonable prices. Lovely staff too

Really good and traditional pub, we came for a big family gathering on a Sunday and they managed to fit us in which was very nice! Beautiful location looking out over the hills and a nice beer garden, also everywhere was clean so not sure what the last reviews are. The food was really good, and we heard good things from everyone else. They have a vegan roast dinner which was impressive as no where else in Bury has yet. But also chose this place as it was the only spot that had 2 vegan desserts on the menu but when we came to order, one was unavailable and the other one we ordered and then they came back and said they had no vegan cream, ice cream or anything to go with the sticky toffee pudding. Pretty disappointing as everyone else got a dessert and we sat there without anything, I think a bit of forward planning in the future as I had mentioned in the booking there were 2 vegans and 1 vegetarian. Nevertheless I won’t mark down as the staff were wonderful and apologetic and made up for it and also dealt with our large table very well so I think we would come back. Thanks :)

On arrival we asked for where to sit,,the option was a dirty table from the previous customers, the lady incharge stood over us while we were discussing what to have and really didn't give us much personal space.The meals arrived ,the potions were small,the fish was more batter than actual fish and very overcooked. My chicken was dry ,with a small side potion of coleslaw, that small it came on a tiny leaf.

Lovely place, food was delicious, staff are friendly and helpful, as a party of 15 we were all well catered for and well looked after. Will definitely visit again 🙂

Lovely off the road pub has a small village pub feel..

Staff quite rude, as we sat in a reserved table, no sign what so ever on table. Ordered food at bar, Left no tip, Mushy peas just about warm, Chips had been cooked lots of times, all hard and dark brown, fill of fat, just had them left over, and put them on my plate to get rid of them. Fish was just OK 2 mins longer would of been better, Lemonade was nice 😋

Booked for lunch on a busy sunny afternoon. Even though the staff were all rushed off their feet, they were still really polite and helpful. Took a while to get our order taken, but the food was good as always.

I hit this lovely country pub twice in one day last week. Lunch with girlfriends and then date night! Both time slots were gorgeous. Great location, sun was out! Friendly locals, lovely food and cold drinks. Staff on both shifts super friendly. Shout out to Sky our very smiley waitress on the afternoon shift, a real sweetie despite the hot weather and busy beer garden. Can't recommend this country pub enough!

Nice location great views polite staff but the food was very average although reasonably priced. We would go again.

This restaurant is great for a sunny day out with fascinating landscape and gorgeous food. Staff were welcoming towards us and service was fantasticles. Would greatly recommend. Only negative was the small car park and the other option is a steep walk up.

Service can be hit and miss, food on the whole good (don't have the messy chips - dry). Sat outside on a sunny day reminds me of being on hols and good atmosphere.

Sunday lunch was delicious, generous portions the Sunday roast for 2 could easily have fed 3 adults. Staff were very attentive and meals served quickly. Excellent valie for money, well worth a visit.

This country pub is a little bit hidden away, but really easy to find. It's quite a big place with plenty of seating inside and a lovely outdoors seating area with even a place to tie up your horse and feed it. There was a good selection of drinks (incl' real ales) and something on the menu to satisfy just about everyone. The food was good quality pub grub, and was served promptly and hot by friendly helpful staff. Prices were fair (£20 for a pint and main course). Definitely worth a visit.

Food was great apart from the bread and nachos sharer starter...more like a single person starter than a sharer 🥴 Great nice little quiet pub.. will definitely return but not for the sharer starter

Recent visit. I had charred water melon and feta salad. I had 6 tiny cubes of low quality feta and slightly bigger cubes of melon. The salad leaves were chewy. There was a small amount of tomato, tiny bits of cucumber and some red onion. Really not worth the money. I asked for some more feta which they provided. The feta and water melon are the main event of the dish and we're almost none existent. Not impressed.

We ate at the Packhorse while staying in the area to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary & we 1st came here in 1987 when we started courting when my wife worked at Fairfield Hospital. The food is excellent & the atmosphere very special. We'll be back again when we're next visiting Bury & it was special to come back to the Packhorse after all this time.

My friend and I went for lunch yesterday 26th June 2024 and we were delighted 😀 1st time since the new renovation I had visited and we were both delighted! The Pack Horse Birtle is beautiful. We sat outside overlooking the stunning countryside in the wonderful sunshine. Family and dog friendly. The menu has something for everyone. The food was wonderful, (we had the cajun chicken with the green vegetable side dish) fresh, hot, plentiful, delicious and very reasonably priced.😋 Lesley and her staff are lovely. Very helpful and friendly. We had a lovely time. If I could give 10 stars 🌟 I definitely would! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon everyone. We'll definitely be back 😊🥰 Jan from Heywood xx

Really nice food, a little crammed in around a table but otherwise great service in a great location.

Food was fairly good and arrived promptly. Staff were ok quite helpful although could be a little bit friendlier. Pub was very clean and well kept.

Our first visit despite living nearby for 25 years. We were a family of 3 adults and a child booked in for Father’s Day. The booking said the conservatory was unavailable but on arrival, we were allocated a table in the conservatory with great views - bonus! Faultless service from entry to leaving. Terrific food and lovely atmosphere. Very friendly but professional staff. We will definitely come again.

Me and my wife went up there yesterday, and the food was awesome. The hot crispy beef with egg noodle salad is something else. Lovely pub inside and out, and the service was spot on!

First time since refurbishment found the interior to be bright and welcoming. Three adults and a child. My wife had the sea Bass minus the prawns which she said was delicious. Surprised to find the steak and ale pie was an actual pie and not a slice of plate pie. Nevertheless this was delicious particularly with the lovely gravy. Child's fish goujans, chips and beans would have satisfied an adult. Altogether a delicious lunch and can't wait to return.

Called today for a lunch. This was our 3rd visit. Good menu with enough choice Pub is lovely both inside and out Polite staff Had a few people in but not rammed. Good lovely, tasty and came relatively quickly We had a chicken burger and the chicken flat bread Only minor criticism was the bacon was not crispy on the burger Would highly recommend and we will be back

We have been here about 6 times since last year and it's our favourite for going out for lunch with our furry best friend since it's dog-friendly. The staff are so welcoming and always want to come over and pet her. The food is great too, I've never had a bad meal here. The time to serve is good and it always comes out hot (especially the lasagne, my husband had to let it cool down for 10 mins before it was safe to eat without the hot cheese burning your tongue). I love the countryside pub like interior, feels very homely.

Everything about the place is brilliant, the food was 10/10, the service 10/10 have no doubt this place will be popular for a very long time, the lads on the bar Jack and Josh I think there names are served out drinks quickly, sky took our order and made no mistakes and even recommended dishes on the menu which is a rarity. Loved every minute at the pack have to say I will definitely be returning and recommmending to all my friends and family

Called in for a drink half way through a walk

been coming here for years and years but me and my boyfriend came today at about 5:30, was told they were only taking food orders for bookings. i’ve working in hospitality for over 7 years and he never ever known this to happen unless it’s a mega posh restaurant, really disappointing and strange to be honest.

Went today for lunch. My husband had a Sunday roast beef dinner and I had the cajun chicken with roast potatoes. They were both absolutely delicious. We then treated ourselves to the Arctic slice and apple crumble waffle, again both were amazing!

After a week of cooking for my family, I needed a night off from the kitchen. We had excellent service , but I chose wrong meal. Cheese and onion pie was not appetizing. I ate very little of it, so really I paid and lot for chips, peas and cheese sauce!!!! The pastry was hard and too much, the filling was almost tasteless and was little filling for a big pie.☹️ the sauce did nothing to improve. Advice, Change the company you buy off! 😉 or come sample my C & O pie. The sticky toffee pudding …… YUM YUM😊 Will defo visit again but will choose another option. Thank you

Wonderful wonderful meal at the Packhorse Inn. We decided to go for the Sunday sharing roast (£39.95) which was well worth the money with a trio of meats (pork, beef and turkey) pigs in blankets, roast and mashed potato, veg and bottomless Yorkshire pudding and gravy( just the right thickness). All cooked to perfection and with a pint of Manchester lager and the fantastic views of the countryside made for a perfect trip out.

As we were a party of 11 when we booked we were asked to preordered which meant we were served our food in excellent time. The food was good and all of our party enjoyed our meals. The menu is varied. The vegans in our party were very happy with the choices and there were members of our party chose the 3 starter option were impressed with the variety. The staff were very pleasant and efficient and service ran very smoothly. All in all we had a lovely afternoon ☺️

I came for lunch with 3 work colleagues from my office job. I follow a Keto lifestyle and asked to have The Tower Burger without bread, chips or battered onion ring. Perfect food, just ask if you have dietary requirements. I am SO impressed!!

Used to frequent this pub before it shut for a refurb so I was pleasantly surprised to see the open aspect of the restaurant and the tabled seating area to the left and right of the entrance from the car park. These used to feel like two separate rooms. The bar area remains as it was but looks fresher. I m pleased to see the decor has not been degraded into a corporate- feel hotel bar, like another old pub in thus area did, some years ago.The Packhorse still feels like a familiar friend and the staff service feels very friendly and familiar too.

Ate excellent food next to a roaring fire with a stunning view.

Holly, Zoe, Vix and the team were amazing. Delicious food, great service… I will be back!
