We go to the pack horse quite regularly and the staff are always welcoming and the food is very tasty. We were served by Diane today who was very welcoming and attentive 🙂

Oh my days! Just shared a Sunday dinner platter for two and we are stuffed. It was heavenly! Three meats, tonnes of veg, cauliflower cheese, pigs n blankets, stuffing and unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Seriously these guys are great at the details, when they say unlimited they mean it and constantly checked that we had enough gravy and Yorkshire puddings. A perfect Sunday dinner.

We went here for a late Sunday lunch and it was sensational with a warm welcome from Lesley ! Beef and turkey well cooked and tasty as were all the vegetables, gravy and the Yorkshire puddings. Unfortunately being in our later years the portion size was far too big so we had to leave about half of the meal and had no room for pudding. We’ve eaten here a number of times so know it’s good but will be telling all our friends to head here for Sunday lunch for a special treat. You’ve certainly got a winning formula at the Pack Horse so thanks for running such a great business.

This is the most welcoming bar and restaurant I've visited on the outskirts of Rochdale to date, with excellent service and a varied menu for all tastes. I arrived at lunchtime, and Tina (the lovely manager) and her team gave my family and me a very personal touch and kindly invited us to sit at one of the tables in the dining room. Upon arrival, they suggest the drinks and starters you'd like to eat. They have various portions, which is great for trying more. I recommend the Caprese Salad and a Brewers Mixed Grill, which was the dish I chose and was served with great professionalism. The prices are relatively competitive for the area, but in this case, the value was fair, considering the location and the service. I highly recommend this restaurant for a unique and enjoyable family day out. The views around the area and the lake are stunning. It has ample parking and is a pet-friendly place. Been coming here for decades but this is the last time. Service staff are rude and short of patience. We booked a large party and somebody decided it was a smart idea to put us across separate tables, pulling faces when it meant two tables were then ordering drinks. Portions are small nowadays and the price is ever increasing. Bar staff were good, the service staff could do with shadowing them to learn how it is done. Won't be back

A really great pub with fantastic service and food. Lovely in the summer with lots of outdoor seating and a cosy log fire in the winter. Highly recommend the lamb shank and the cheese pie. Great food at a reasonable price.

This place serves top class food at pub prices. The food is amazing. I have eaten there both for lunch and dinner and the food is great any time of day. The staff cannot do enough to help you and a special mention to Lesley!

Been here a few times now. Yummy food each time in a lovely location. Can't wait to come back in summer for a drink outside.

Love this place. Real country pub feel, open fires and cosy feel. Food is very good. Decent selection of draught beer . Loads of parking. I’ve only been during the week and in winter. Not sure how busy it can get but I’ll definitely be returning Update- I’ve now been for Sunday lunch and it’s epic!!!!

Beautiful pub in a great location. Food is very well priced and kids portions were massive! They had fish goujons which were pretty much 3 big pieces of fish! Cheese and potato pie was also immense.

Ideal countryside location with good views. The food was average pub grub and a bit over priced. Staff friendly but service was slow and it wasn't a busy day.

We celebrated with a wonderful Easter Sunday family meal, the food was delicious and we were made very welcome and look after by Emma. A wonderful evening in a beautiful place.

Beautiful setting, I have been here loads of times and the sunday roast is ok, but the food today was under par and overpriced.

Diane was our server! She was absolutely absolutely amazing! The other staff we saw were friendly and attentive. The food was out of this world! Absolutely phenomenal! And the views are stunning too!

Called in one evening! Haven't been in for years. We had a fantastic meal I had the sea bass it was stunning. The staff was very accommodating as I have sight issues, I asked for somewhere well lit. The atmosphere is really relaxing and the views are to die for. A definite 5* from me.

Beautiful rural views, traditional country pub feel, car parking, good choice menu with range of small starters to substantial mains. I particularly like the small dessert and coffee for £6.95 to finish. .

I go once a week and have for a while and i get what i expect everytime its a great cosy friendly pub

We found this place by accident, very nice views and surrounding’s, I had haddock fish cakes with dauphinois potatoes, would have been nice to have had seasonal veg, ( I’m a vegetarian) my Sister had Fish pie, again, it would have been nice with veg. But on the Whole we really enjoyed it. The staff were pleasant but would have liked a little bit more direction, ie, “ would you like to sit at the back, the views are really lovely back there “ obviously we had never been there before so a little direction would have been really appreciated.

Had lunch here today. My friend had the fish pie, I had the chicken schnitzel. Oh gosh, these dishes were both so tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and visit. We will visit again soon!!! Massive improvements and such lovely staff. 5⭐️

A great place to visit!! The views are stunning. The place itself has just been refurbished and to a high standard yet still retains the cozy feel with a real fire and a warm welcome. The food I could not fault. I would like to see more vegan options but they do have some, so that was great 👍 The staff were friendly and prices fairly reasonable. Will definitely revisit.

A welcoming fire was ablaze when we walked in, lighting was ambient and we were greeted by Emma who asked us to get a drink at the bar whilst we waited for our table to become vacant. No more than 10-15 minutes later and we were at our table, looking through the menu. We were brought here today by my sister and brother in law who are locals and it was sensational. We shared the Sunday roast sharer (which has bottomless Yorkshire puds and gravy) and our wives had the vegetarian wellington. Food was fantastic, really tasty veggies, cauliflower cheese and meat. Service was even better with us having at least 3 check backs to see if we wanted any more drinks, Yorkshire puddings or gravy. As an old employee of hospitality, I really do appreciate when people provide a great service and this was definitely a place with that. Emma and Tina really made us feel at home and we couldn’t have been happier with their service. Thank you so much for a great experience. Will definitely be visiting when we’re in the area again.

had a fabulous Sunday lunch today everything was cooked to perfection. The lady that served our table was a delight her name was Emma and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be returning soon. Thank you very much.

Amazing food lovely comfy dining and great service in the country side setting

Very nice and cozy pub. The food it was extraordinary… I started with the soup of the day and the Thai honey halloumi fries wich they was amazing and for the main I got the chicken schnitzel…. Food coma !!!! And all the tasty food made me go for a pudding aswell… really recommend it !!!!!

Great food and service I can thoroughly recommend a visit.

Booked online for a table for 4 people at 1pm. Arrived at 12.50 and shown to the table quickly. That's when it went a bit downhill. Ordered drinks and they came quickly, then waited 15 minutes to give our food order. This then took over 30 minutes to arrive. My wife's food was cold and she asked for it to be heated up. This came back within a minute...really fast microwave.... The bread and butter upgrade to the fish and chips was not worth the money. Large piece of bread with a very small knob of frozen butter. We asked for more butter and a small tub if frozen butter arrived...completely unusable. When we asked for the bill this was the first time we were asked if everything had been ok!!! We said the service had been slow and one of the dishes was presented not hot. My wife said she could see that the restaurant was busy, but surely the wait staff, who had faces reminiscent of a wet weekend in Scarborough, could have warned us there may be a wait as they were busy. But not a word. No apology was given about the cold food other than feedback would be given to the chef. Today my wife has a stomach upset, coincidence due to the undercooked food maybe, who knows? We have been here a few times in the past and it has always been fine. This will be our last visit.

This place was so good, the location was out of the way a bit but the view from the hill is amazing, especially with the fairy lights on. My food was delicious, I had a vegan burger and it was one of the best I had. 100% recommend this place.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch, we were quickly seated and our orders were taken speedily. Three of us had the roast beef dinner which was nicely presented, hot and a good selection of food on the plate all beautifully cooked. Mt wife enjoyed her veggie roast dinner, which she said was very tasty and made a nice change from some of the veggie options offered in some pubs. Nice to see most of the waiting on staff are still there. A great atmosphere and delicious food.

Fantastic pub. The best dog friendly pub we've been in. Lovely, attentive staff. Good choice of drinks. We ate from the small plates menu, all very tasty and arrived promptly.

Absolutely beautiful pub with the most incredible staff and probably the cleanest facilities ive found in a pub! Spent Christmas day and New Years Eve here with my parents and nothing was too much. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, i felt like I'd be visiting here for many years despite being a newbie! Cannot rate the Pack Horse any higher and i can't wait to revisit over and over!! 10/10 for me guys, keep up the AMAZING work!!! X

Don't use this place it you want to put an event on. It is very poorly managed. On top of that any regulars aren't permitted to use the pub if an event is on. Very, Very poor practice and likely to lose customers taking that stance. They disregard the very people that keeps the pub open.

A very disappointing Christmas meal. I would not have posted this but for the fact that the staff didn’t care when I raised it with them - they could have rescued it. 11 of us for Christmas dinner with circa £800 spent including drinks. We exchanged gifts at the pub as we come from all over the place, which was much to the consternation of the staff who told me we were just going to have restricted time afterwards. Some of our party were also late - a lot of people attending so not unexpected. At no point did anyone tell me we had restricted time at the table when we booked. If they had I would have probably thought again! Briefly after being served our desserts we were asked to move to the bar. I was happy to do this until I realised there was no space in the bar. We had mum in a wheelchair and we also had my 2 year old granddaughter with us. Not good. When one of the staff went past us I told her there was no room for us. She said, ‘isn’t there? Sorry.’ You would think if they asked 11 people to move somewhere for their benefit, they would at least make sure there was space for us. I told her we would not be back and she said ‘sorry’. Majority of us were pretty disappointed with the food. Various people were missing bits of their lunch. My veggie one was awful. However I could have ignored the food if we had had a nice relaxing and joyful time. This was difficult feeling under pressure from the very start. We were also not offered coffee and mince pies which were part of the lunch. All together not a great experience and a shame to have had such an experience on Christmas Day when the family were so excited to be together.

I've not been to this place for maybe 30 years. A lot has changed. I was with my mum sister and brother-in-law. My sister and I had the lamb shank mum had the Duck and my brother-in-law had fish and chips. The meals were very generous, also very very tasty. I would recommend The Pack Horse Inn Birtle Bury it's a Real pub with fantastic food.. Well worth a visit

It was my first time visiting and i enjoyed it. Beautiful place in a lovely spot, nice views. The atmosphere was nice. The food was beautiful. I will definitely be back

Have just returned home from Pack Horse Birtle and just had to leave this review, Tina was just amazing, we were there for our Christmas walking group lunch and were not disappointed, the food was out of this world all served on warm plates and deliciously hot, I will definitely be returning with family and friends

Food was top notch had soup for starter definatley home made lovely and had beef very generous portion and melted in your mouth will be going back soon

Good experience, mum (and her wheelchair) were catered for, loved the food catered well for allergies and intolerances. Second visit, food just as good background music quiet so you can hear yourself speak, a lovely atmosphere.

I had been there in the 80s with my brothers and cousin. Never thought I would be able to revisit. Great atmosphere, food and service. It's a bit out of the way for someone staying in Manchester, but if you find yourself in Bury on the Rochdale Rd, turn left onto Birtle Rd. You won't be disappointed.

Such a good pub , staff are the best here especially the long dark haired lady so so nice 💕 The food absolutely spot on had lamb shanks on bed crushed potatoes minted peas so very nice . We will be back even if it’s just to see that barmaid ! Great pub , Great staff….. Full of local. …… “ Characters”

Visited this place today for the first time. Myself and my 19 year old son really enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning. Everything was excellent! I had the lamb shank & my son had the steak. We both thought the was excellent. 👍

First time visiting here booked a table for my mother in laws birthday when we arrived they had put a nice message on a board saying happy birthday which was nice. The staff were all friendly and kind food was incredible we had starters spinach and potato soup main course the beef Sunday dinner and for dessert chocolate brownie. Prices for food were good and you get a lot. Definitely be going again. The pub itself is so nice very clean parking outside nice views going to be visiting here again in summer so we can sit outside.

Decent spot for a pint, but the prices are a bit steep for what you get. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are friendly.

Amazing atmosphere with quality food and beers. Lot of sitting options. I visited with my friends and believe me , it was my best cafe experience soo far. If you want to spend quality time , do visit in evening.

I booked a table for 5 as it was my mother's 70th birthday. Atmosphere was relaxed the server's were attentive and really looked after us, we all had a starter followed by a main, and the food was fantastic can't fault anything, they even made an effort with a slice of cake and candle for my mother and sang happy birthday. This was our first visit but it won't be the last. The staff were fantastic and a credit to the company 👏 thank you

The Pack Horse is a fantastic pub. Tried their new menu tonight, love fish pie and so fed up of being disappointed but not tonight. The fish pie was delicious and my husband's meal was also delicious. The staff are always polite and welcoming. Would highly recommend this pub ! 🥂🍷

There is nothing better than going for a nice walk in birtle and then stopping for a beer at the park horse....sometimes there are cyclists there, other times rides and their horses....lovely beer garden with a great feel. Staff and food are great too

My wife and I just had the worst meal out in our entire life. Fish and chips with cremated frozen fish. Never eat here again.

Added to all the above, the views from the conservatory were so beautiful, rolling hills, tractors working and horses - a truly special time with family.

We have been coming here for years for family celebrations and we visited recently to celebrate a family birthday. The new refurbishments are really nice, especially in the conservatory. The wine is also good and quite reasonably priced, and the settings are so lovely, you can have some brilliant country walks nearby. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the food on this occasion. The fish was very overcooked as it was very dry and flaky and had hardly any fish inside the batter. The batter was very hard, somebody could have damaged their teeth it was that overcooked. The chips were nice though. I didn't have dessert there on this occasion. The service was mostly good. I will still visit as it's a lovely pub, I just hope they focus on their food more, maybe it's because we were a big party and they had lots to cook at once but I hope the quality improves.

Beer inconsistent and overpriced.

Timeless British pub, but kept pace with changing tastes and requirements. Great selection of JW Lees beers and others. Very decent menu. Excellent value and an enjoyable evening. Highly recommended 👌

Really good and traditional pub, we came for a big family gathering on a Sunday and they managed to fit us in which was very nice! Beautiful location looking out over the hills and a nice beer garden, also everywhere was clean so not sure what the last reviews are. The food was really good, and we heard good things from everyone else. They have a vegan roast dinner which was impressive as no where else in Bury has yet. But also chose this place as it was the only spot that had 2 vegan desserts on the menu but when we came to order, one was unavailable and the other one we ordered and then they came back and said they had no vegan cream, ice cream or anything to go with the sticky toffee pudding. Pretty disappointing as everyone else got a dessert and we sat there without anything, I think a bit of forward planning in the future as I had mentioned in the booking there were 2 vegans and 1 vegetarian. Nevertheless I won’t mark down as the staff were wonderful and apologetic and made up for it and also dealt with our large table very well so I think we would come back. Thanks :)

On arrival we asked for where to sit,,the option was a dirty table from the previous customers, the lady incharge stood over us while we were discussing what to have and really didn't give us much personal space.The meals arrived ,the potions were small,the fish was more batter than actual fish and very overcooked. My chicken was dry ,with a small side potion of coleslaw, that small it came on a tiny leaf.

Lovely place, food was delicious, staff are friendly and helpful, as a party of 15 we were all well catered for and well looked after. Will definitely visit again 🙂
