Suburb Cafe in Rochdale

Sat around for 20 mins without being served. Terrible service. Had to go to the till to order. The staff seem disinterested. Strange experience to say the least,

Rude lady served us asking if we'd reserved our table, we hadn't but there was no reserved sign on it. Once my wife was seated she came and put the reserved sign down and then seated another couple with us on our table. Food is over priced and they added a service charge which I didn't realise until I'd paid the bill.

Came today Sunday 22nd September after a lovely walk around Greenbooth Reservoir. Both me and my wife Sandra had a beautiful breakfast which was absolutely gorgeous. They gave us sausages for our dog Remi too which was a nice treat for him. We'd highly recommend this place, it really was Superb.... We will return 😁

Staff rolling eyes, when I asked to take out food, took a very long time getting the bill had to ask twice, the second time I got up to ask, waitress was too busy in kitchen having a natter. Been a couple off times notices staff particularly one older lady was always off with us gave it a pass. But after this time won’t be recommending to anyone or returning.

What a great place to eat, we went Saturday evening and although it was a little quiet that did not take away the atmosphere and the food was just amazing, fine dining with nothing left out, the service was great and Michael the chef is clearly passionate about what he is cooking. We had all 3 courses and enjoyed everything … it has to be tried because it won’t disappoint you

First visit last night and will definitely be back . The food was devine . My husband said the paella was the nicest paella he had ever had and the ones in Spain that he has all the time paled in comparison . The lamb shank and the mash was sublime. Our friends loved their meals to. Desserts delicious. Really nice ambiance, felt like we were on holiday. Staff were really nice . Compliments to the chef 👨‍🍳 x

Called in halfway through our 8 mile walk, lovely friendly staff and food as always. No service charge was added onto our bill, but we tipped anyway as we always do. We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch meal and will continue to use Suburb as we have for the last few years. We've never had a bad meal, and we never encounter anything other than friendly staff who work there. Yes, Suburb is slightly more expensive than other breakfast places near us, but the quality here is amazing.

Poor service and cold food. When we want to go out for a special breakfast, this is usually our ‘go to’ place, but we won’t be returning after the disaster that was today’s visit! Service was so slow, our food came out at different times, so mine was cold by the time my husband’s came out. I suspect mine was only luke warm anyway because the hollandaise sauce on top of the poached eggs already had a film on it. I then had to ask for cutlery, and my husband had to ask for brown sauce. We were still waiting for the sauce 5 mins later and had to ask again. Needless to say, his breakfast was now stone cold. My husband’s breakfast was inedible; it was so cold so we decided to complain. Another 5mins later, a woman who worked there came over arguing with us, repeatedly asking why we hadn’t told her. I repeated a few times, ‘We have - we’re doing it now.’ He had only eaten a slice of bacon and a bite of sausage out of a full English ‘Suburb’ breakfast. She said they could have ‘reheated’ it for us. Re-heated?! No thanks. And this now meant that he would be eating alone because I had long finished mine. I asked her to remove my husband’s meal from the bill and remove the service charge too. Her attitude towards us was beyond unprofessional. The situation was very awkward and other guests were looking at us. This is a big ‘no-no’ for us and we won’t be returning.

The food is great, and nice ambience but what I completely disagree with is the fact that they add a service charge/tip automatically to the bill!! So if you don’t want to pay that, you have to ask them to take it off and then give you a revised bill. They need to understand they are a cafe and not a high end restaurant. This does not warrant an automatic service charge. Completely puts me off visiting again and I’ve heard many customers say the same. Such a shame that they are being greedy. Their prices are top end as it is without trying to get more money from their customers!!

We enjoyed a fantastic brunch at Suburb. Outstanding food, friendly & polite staff and good value for money. It's definitely worth a visit and we hope to return soon.

My daughter and I had the suburb breakfast and a subclub sandwich. Both were fantastic. The breakfast elements were all perfect, the cherry tomatoes, the creamy scrambled eggs, and the presentation. They should put it forward for awards.

We visited this establishment for Sunday Breakfast, which made a nice change from our usual fayre of bacon butties. There is a very good menu, which certainly blurs the line between a Cafe and a Restaurant, as does the interior decor. The full English Breakfast was most acceptable, sizeable and served hot to the table. As far as value was concerned, it was reasonable considering it’s quality and quantity. If you wish to try a Sunday Breakfast then it could be prudent to phone in and reserve a table, as certainly from our experience, the Superb Cafe is popular at that time. Note that nearby public car parking may be difficult to find. Major Credit Cards are accepted.

First visit today and was not disappointed in the least . Food was extremely tasty and presented lovely. Loved the atmosphere and staff so friendly. Would highly recommend 👌

Had the paella to start, very good, kept the oil from the chorizo under control. Beef Bourguinon was superb, would have loved some bread to mop the last of the liquor up. Had orange polenta for desert, very good. Really enjoyed the meal, if I was forced to find a fault I would have like the drinks service to be quicker but that's me being fussy. We really enjoyed our meal and would happily go back.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. If you’re looking for local high quality food, then this is the place to be. The Suburb breakfast is not for those with a small appetite. A coffee lovers dream! ☕️ lots of choice, made how you like it.

2 of us popped in unbooked after walk round Greenbooth Reservoir for light lunch. Place quite full. Staff found us seating , order taken and served in timely fashion. Staff friendly. Was a little noisy, however size of room and occupancy much the issue. No complaints

The breakfast was absolutely delicious! 😋 I had the scrambled egg with smoked salmon, asparagus and capers and my son had bacon on toast with a little pot of Nutella on the side. My friend had the eggs florentine. We all had fresh orange/apple juice. The service was friendly and efficient and the setting was clean and cozy. We are already planning a return visit!

Went with my partner, I asked what the French toach was like, as I have had amazing French toast from Gooey and Moose coffee in Manchester, she did recommend this. It came out, I was like this is literally a few pieces of warburtons toast and a couple of berries (literally) I'm surprised they weren't embarrassed, I would have been like ok, if you are paying like £3/4 then fair enough, (you get what you pay for) but for near enough £9 you want something a little more, especially when in manchester the 2 previously stated restaurants at similar prices, are central manchester and elevated to a other level, not quite acceptable to charge these prices, if you are comparing like for like, with the cost of living, I doubt a cafe near the centre of Rochdale costs are more than city centre.

Just wanted to give one of my favourite places to eat a massive shout out. I was 60 at the beginning of February and wanted a get together with friends and family. Vicky and Micheal sorted everything out for me. It was a chilled out afternoon with nice background music, great service and delicious food. I would like to thank the staff who gave up their Sunday afternoon to serve us. I don't know all of their names but I know Diane moved things around in her diary to work and I am really grateful. Michael produced some really great food and everyone commented and how tasty it all was. I had such a lovely time and so did everyone there. Thank you Suburb for a really lovely and memorable 60th Birthday.

First time visiting suburb cafe even though it's not far from where I live. Was busier than expected for mid morning, but luckily got a table. The cafe then went extremely quiet around 11.30am so we checked there was no bookings and asked if we could order more drinks. Young waitress accomodating and happy for us to order more coffees. At around 12.15pm the lunch time peak started but there was still some empty tables. The older waitress asked us to vacate the table at this point. Other customers commented that this was rude of her. £40 for x2 omelettes and x2 coffees each - massively overpriced and customer service hugely lacking. I would choose not to return as there are much nicer establishments in the area.

Nice food, homemade, however, very very pricey. I was shocked how much they charge, for Rochdale not even Wilmslow charge these prices. The reason I wouldn't go back, unfortunately. Plus, they add service charge.

I visited this oasis for a coffee & a sandwich. Situated in urban area of Rochdale provides a warm, friendly cafe with beautiful range of sandwiches and salads along with wide range of cold and hot drinks. I opted for a Illy’s Cappuccino which tasted smooth and delicious. Ordered a steak baguette with onions, cheese and jalapeno peppers on a toasted baguette served with a side salad. Also ordered a large bottle of locally sourced water. Ambiance was warm & friendly supported with polite team who greet you with a warm authentic smile. Busy Cafe frequented by locals & visitors like. Not surprised. A gem. Congratulations to the team!

We dropped in for lunch in November which was our first visit. Our drinks arrived quickly but there was a lengthy wait for food given they were about half full. The service was otherwise friendly & the venue is warm & welcoming. The food itself was of a good standard but I would have to say overpriced. It’s London pricing but in a local neighbourhood cafe/bar. On balance we probably wouldn’t return.

Picked it from Google maps for a Sunday bikers breakfast. We had a suburb full breakfast, which was great good sausages, and they adhered to the multiple sausage code. Staff were lovely and parking wasn't a problem. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for, and we did have a second coffee each.

I’ve been to Suburb many times for breakfast/brunch and was delighted to be invited to a baby shower here on Sunday afternoon. We arrived at 3pm and the place looked great. The afternoon tea was one of the best around and the staff were lovely/attentive. You could even have a Prosecco on arrival. Thanks for a great afternoon.

I've always walked past this place, never been in. So, kids were back in school and I decided to treat myself. Was easy to find a table wasn't that busy in the mornings. Service is pretty slow. Must have 10-15mins till I was approached to take my order. I opted for the large veggie breakfast and also ordered a Latte. Bit of wait again. latte came first then my breakfast and I wasn't disappointed. Really lovely, delicious breakfast. Everything on there had its own taste and flavoured well. Not a massive fan of asparagus but, I ate it, it tasted nice and buttery. I had 2 big pieces of bread I couldn't finish. (I took them with me on my walk back home) Overall, I wasn't expecting the £5 service charge, it turned out to be an expensive breakfast lol. Couldn't fault the taste. The scenery is nice if the sun is shining with the doors at the front of the cafe opened, which it was on the day.

I have been going to Suburb for many years, since it opened really and I never had a bad word to say about it. However, we attended last week and it was the worst dining experience I had ever had. We booked for 5 people and three of us arrived on time to secure our table, the rest of our party hadn't arrived at all. It had only been ten minutes and the rude waitress/owner of the café came and announced that "We had to order our food now because we don't have long on the table!" When ordering the table, we were not told that there was a time cap on the table or that we were going to be rushed in such a rude way. It all seemed poorly organised and gave the impression they had double -booked. We all felt rushed, displaced and under pressure as the manageress and waitresses kept pushing us to order. When our food did arrive, they messed up a vegan order and forgot to give us our water. When we did ask, the manageress turned around and pulled a face. The atmosphere was disappointing.

Lovely hidden gem in a nice area. Excellent vegetarian breakfast; best ive ever tasted. Good selection of food for both veggies and meat eaters. Smoothies are delicious and mocha coffee was amazing. We will be back

Ate a Suburb Today for the first time after hearing good things from my Fiancee and our daughter. First bit of advice would be book in advance the restaurant is quite small and compact. I had the Suburb Breakfast, My Daughter had the same and my Fiancee had Smoked Salmon with Scrambled eggs and asparagus with 2 Latte's and a Flat White Coffee. Service was OK, Restaurant was clean, Food was amazing to be honest one of if not the best Breakfasts I has ever eaten. Prices are quite expensive but the food quality and ingredients were Top draw so no issue at all. Total Bill £52. 5☆

Had a late breakfast here, ordered scrambled eggs with toast. Was lovely! Great location and when we went it was nice and warm so we were able to sit outside.

Ive been a few times and always had a nice experience. However this afternoon was slightly different. Breakfast was delicious. But the waitress (black top ad black jeans) was as miserable as sin. No smile when speaking to me, no thank you. She definitely needs training on her customer service skills.

Beautiful place for a breakfast date.

Overheard a group raving about this place and thought we would give it a try, it did not disappoint! The staff and service were great and the food delicious. The menu may seem fairly small but each dish (we tried lots between us) was beautifully fresh and well thought out. Seasonal ingredients were brought to life with some less usual additions such as pickled walnuts, we will be back!

This was one of our go to places, but on our last 2 visits, one in the evening and one for brunch, the service wasn't great, food orders incorrect, rude staff - especially the owner. We won't be going again. In the current climate, a customer needs to feel welcome and the service and food be good, and sadly this doesn't apply at Suburb anymore.

Came here on Mother’s Day with my mum and we waited 20 minutes to be given menus. They sat us right next to the door so everyone was walking around you. If you go avoid the table nearest the door. Ask for the corner table at the window. I was that close to the table behind their kid was pretty much pulling my hair. Food was beautiful but the experience wasn’t great. Been here a lot and live in the area. Unfortunately won’t be returning.

Called in recently for breakfast -very nice but I felt it was overpriced . Paid £10 less the day before in cafe North in Manchester’s Northern Quarter for practically the same , plus Suburb put a 10% service charge on the bill.

Had an absolutely beautiful 5 course meal here on valentines night. Each course well balanced with high quality ingredients. Service was excellent, not rushed, left perfect amount of time between courses. Looking forward to going again soon

Rang and booked table for two adults and my 5 month baby Dragged him out in the pouring rain for us to turn up and there be no table available at all not one seat. Having mentioned on the phone I don't want to bring out the baby if there would be no room I'm really disappointed

Revisited after a few months. They’ve added a simple vegan breakfast and some gluten free options inc a breakfast. Enjoyed our breakfasts. Great to see and long overdue. Recommend booking at weekend, can be busy but service is quick. Nice coffee too with oat milk.

Strangest lunch ever. Initially asked to move from our table for 2, to join another couple sitting at a table for 6, because two ladies who came in didn’t want to share a table, so my friend and I kindly obliged and moved. It took a while to get served but didn’t mind at all. Food was lovely and we paid compliments. Then, while literally still eating our meal, we were asked to move again, this time to a small table, to accommodate more walk-ins. Reluctantly we agreed, but could we finish eating? Because we weren’t happy, or perhaps because we didn’t immediately jump out of our seats, owner was rude and called us unco-operative! So when we questioned the attitude we were told to leave and never return. Like we’d ever want to go back dear. On the plus side, at 60 years old, albeit stone cold sober, I can finally say I’ve been thrown out and barred from somewhere, so my friend and I ended up laughing all the way home 😂 Basil Fawlty fans might appreciate musical chairs and questionable behaviour, I just found it bizarre!

Drove 5 miles to visit this cafe after reading a review stating that it was dog friendly, only to be told dogs are only allowed outside - It was torrential rain, so no thanks. Took our business elsewhere.

Advertised on Google as dog friendly, but went in with my 4 month old assistance dog who is in training, and was asked to leave. I could have argued that this is in breach of the law, but quite frankly the attitude of the member of staff put me off the place completely.

Not been in a while, we were quite surprised how much the prices have gone up I mean £12.50 for a full English seems abit steep. One of our party had poached eggs which were hard, the pancakes the children had was far too big a portion it could have been halved to avoid wastage and the high price. Sorry but we will be a no from us for now.

Went here for a birthday lunch for my dad. The staff were so nice and personable. The food was really nice. There were so many things I wanted to try I struggled to decide! I had the Caesar salad which was full of flavour and was a generous portion size. Will definitely be going again to try something else in the future. Highly recommend!!

Don't think I will go there again until they work better on customer service. Very disappointing 😞
