We ordered 2 lamb Sunday dinners, the lamb was like what you got from a supermarket freezer dept.. The roast potatoes also was like what you get from a freezer. ! The gravy and the lamb, didn't taste of lamb. !! The peas also seemed to of been frozen. !!

Popped in for a pint of English IPA, sadly there was a lengthy wait on food, but from past experience the food here is excellent, so opted to enjoy the liquid refreshment. The bar was busy, which confirms its popularity.

This is a fantastic proper pub offering a good selection of pub grub. Theres a great choice on the menu, jacket potatoes, salads, sandwiches, starters and a good choice of main meals, some of which you can choose large or small which I think is a good option.i had the Scampi and chips which was delicious. One friend had fish and chips and it looked lovely, the other had a tuna baguette and it was a decent size. The staff are lovely and friendly and theres a nice atmosphere in the pub. Overall a fantastic place to eat

Went for my sons 18th last Sunday the 20th of Feb,the food wasn't the best we've had much better from there.me and my mother inlaw had fish and salad the batter was soggy and my sons friend and father in law had the steak, neither were impressed,very fatty and tough.My sons and daughter had sausage and mash which was delish and the just chicken nugget meals were great.We'll still cone back as its a great pub...fabulous atmosphere and the staff are great too.

Great staff. Food was lovely. Fed and watered 5 people and 2 dogs for just over a hundred quid. Toilets super clean. Would highly recommend.

Beer prices are high, but the food quality and service are brilliant.

Great little pub. Quiz night on Wednesday is a good laugh. Our team was terrible, apparently Harry Potters wand isn't made of MDF! The beef and lamb baguettes, pot of gravy and fries. Lovely! Beer getting a bit expensive, but if you want Spoons go to Spoons! Dog friendly too.

2nd visit here. 1st time for Sunday lunch and it was disappointing. We all had different. One starter was only warm. 2 people had scampi which was fine. Regarding Sunday lunch - beef was not too bad. Veg looked like it had been reheated under a grill. Yorkshire pudding was soggy. Roast potatoes seemed like frozen which had been over cooked. Desserts were OK but obviously bought in rather than home made. That said the young lady who served us was really good.

Easy enough to access with a car park at the back. Friendly service, clean tables and comfortable seating areas. I ordered a burger and chips which was very nice. The two beef patties were cooked just right and tasted nice. It had fresh onion, tomato and lettuce. The chips were warm, not hot but they was okay. Good value at just less than a tenner. Decent pint of keg.

Lovely dinner, braised streak was wonderful. So soft and tasty. Dessert yummy and the wine and coffee was flowing. Highly recommend this little gem.

Had lunch yesterday. We sat just chatting after eating for a couple of hours in a lovely atmosphere. The staff did not rush us away or push us to spend. We will be back

Lovely pub with great pub food and great service definitely worth a try

I visited today with my mum and grandma, we had fish and chips and a cod burger and they were delicious! The fish was cooked perfect and crispy! The staff were lovely, great service and great atmosphere. I would certainly come back again. Thank you

30 of us had a finger buffet post funeral at the crematorium which is down the road. The food was lovely, the staff really organised from our first enquiry to the actual day. Bar staff went above and beyond, too. Thank you, Hare and Hounds. We had a lovely afternoon with you!

Marked down on atmosphere only because the place had only just opened and there was only a few couples in but food and service was great. Will eat here again.

Randomly found this place in Google today and they had space for food. We found that it was very cozy feeling and welcoming pub that accepts dogs aswel (bonus). The food was amazing especially the halloumi fries. Was very good priced for the great quality of the food and great quality of service. Food was freshly cooked. Will be definitely going again.

Cold in pub sat with coat on worst chips ive ever had some not cooked would not eat there again ok for a drink when weather comes better to sit outside but will not be in a rush to go back

The public house inside is very nice and split level. It was my first visit on a Saturday with a friend for lunch. Lots of empty tables but we were sat next to the exit for the kitchen and toilets. Very little heating on so wasn't comfortable. The food was pretty basic, a few items weren't available and we booked for 1pm. Very odd to have such a limited menu. Food was just okay. I might go again for a drink but definitely not to eat. Was disappointing.

Very cold had to wear cost to keep warm the pastry on my cheese and onion pie was that hard I needed a hammer and chisel to cut it and the meat on my wife's Sunday dinner was that though she needed a hacksaw to cut it I will certainly not be visiting again

The restaurant was so cold we had to sit in our coats to eat. We waited a long time for the food but the food was 10/10. Waitresses nice but more interested in chatting about their social life. Been here many times and would still come back.

We had an hour to grab a quick bite to eat and this little pub didn’t fail. Lovely warm service. Very reasonably priced.. Really nice fresh traditional pub food. Looking forward to my next visit.

My partner and I went to this pub/restaurant for the very 1st time on Friday 1st July, I foned beforehand to make a table reservation as I was told it can be very busy on a Friday evening. I booked the Table for 7.30pm and we were about 15mins early, so no problem, we sat down and ordered drinks first, by the time the drinks arrived, we were ready to order our food, my partner ordered the 5oz gammon steak with all the trimmings and a few mushrooms to go with it as well, I ordered the batterd Cod Fish with chips & mushy peas. I think after ordering the meals it was about 10mins when we were given our food, I have to say that both meals were very nice an the plates were Hot too. It was very busy in there at the time we were eating & noisy, I know it's a pub/restaurant & you have to expect that, but it was a bit too much for my partner, all together, it was a very nice experience trying somewhere different, and I would certainly want to go again, the Staff were very polite & helpful at all times, the car park is only small, compared to a lot of places, so be aware, we only just managed to get a space when we got there 15 mins early. Would definitely recommend this establishment for the Food and helpful Staff.!!!!!!!!!

Beers well kept, food is unfussy, reasonably priced and tastes good. The kitchen is small so sometime food can take a while but the quality is usually very good.

Very disappointed with service portion size and quality of food . I would not recommend if you expect a nice meal you can get a better meal from a chippy .

We ordered magners and the bottles were warm. Service was rude, I went to order a drink and the bar tender said that she had already been round the tables for last orders but they had not been to my table so I could not order.

Couldn't have been happier. We were a table for 5 plus dog. They do a good, standard pub menu executed flawlessly. For the price, I can't think I've found a better pub meal. The young man who served us was lovely. Will be back again in a heart beat.

The food is always really good and the staff are excellent. Dog friendly, cosy, clean, great for families. Specials board and amazing value for money.

When reserving a table, insist that staff put it in writing. I phoned at 4.30pm to be told "You don't have to book we have plenty of tables". Arrived at 4.45pm "Sorry we are fully booked". I can't comment on the quality of the food as we didn't get any!

Tricky Covid route because it's a pub & bar on two levels, but they have done it very well. We took our well behaved puppy and the bar staff & waiter service couldn't have been nicer. Nice pub menu with usual suspects plus a specials board. We both had the lamb steak which was very tasty but a little too fatty for Mrs. W's taste. Loads of fries and a nice salad & coleslaw to go with it. Busy pub with a great atmosphere Excellent place - will be back.

This was our first visit back since lockdown. The staff are just as lovely as ever. Covid rules all adhered too, Food was delicious!

Eat here last Thursday and the food was wonderful. We both had the mince beef pie and it was delicious !!!! So tasty and flavoursome. The young lady behind the bar so attentive and really goes the extra mile. Regally welcoming, warm and friendly. Always a nice atmosphere in the pub with a nice clientele. Having tried almost all the dishes on the menus and some of the specials this really is my favourite put to go too. You will not be disappointed

We've been here a few times for a drink, homely, friendly traditional pub serving great food. We called in for a Friday Chippy tea which was great value. Hoping to try the Steak night and Curry night too. Probably better to phone and book a table at busy times.

We have been visiting this pub for years, for a drink and food. I had to write a review because the food and service last night was top class. We had starters of buffalo wings and the pate, delicious I had the seabass off the specials board and it was absolutely perfect, very tasty, best seabass dish I've had anywhere! My husband had rag pudding, he wanted to lick the plate it was that good. All this with friendly staff, lovely warm fire and a lovely atmosphere, it's a brilliant family pub

Was in this pretty nice pub last night for a catch up with friends - chosen as it was local and has good beer. We didn’t eat but the food looked good but was totally put off coming back to sample by the service and attitude of the staff. They seemed more interested in their phones than catching the eye of people trying to buy a drink. Seemed like the owner wasn’t in and it was being run by a group of rather surly twenty somethings. Not what I would expect and I can’t see us coming back. If management are interested then we were in between 7:30 and about 10:30 on the 30th. I hope this helps as you have a nice establishment but looks like it’s being let down by some of the staff. Thanks

Well called in here for quick tea not realising it was steak club, well it was best lamb steak for the price i had ever tasted and had option of Fries and Salad which was nice than the usual, my husband went for the rag pudding and he said it at generous amounts of meat you could taste and would defo recommend this place nice little pub and friendly staff,

Sunday 4th November we had a family birthday lunch at the Hare and Hounds and enjoyed an excellent afternoon.There were 9 of us with ages ranging from 20 to 75 and there was something on the menu to suit everyone.The food was very good and the service we had was likewise. The staff should be commended for their efficient and very pleasant service which certainly added to our afternoon. We have dined at the Hare and Hounds a number of times and have never been disappointed and would certainly recommend it. Thank you once again for a very pleasant birthday lunch.

I came here for my tea last night and was not dissapointed at all. I had the chilli with rice and chips and it was so good! Prices are very reasonable too.

We can here for a refreshing drink on a hot sunday evening, we choose this pub because the outside space looked really inviting. We used an outside booth which looked very nice and comfortable from afar, but at closer look the seat covers could do with a bit of repair, there were little rips allover. Still, the drinks were enjoyed and the staff were friendly so that's a positive.

Came to visit our Brother in Hospital, found this little gem, don’t be put off by the prices, food and service is fantastic, Fantastic value for money!

Been here again and it never fails to please us. Meals are cooked to order and are lovely and hot ,beautifully presented and very tasty. The cheese and onion pie is the best I’ve tasted. They are busy making an outside dining area and at the moment it is still under improvement with seating due to be recovered. We had lunch on wed outside in the sun and really enjoyed it, the staff are very pleasant and only to happy to please. Needs to be tried.

Visited here on a Friday night “chippy tea night” which was excellent. Busy with a good atmosphere. Food was delicious and the portions on the large side. At £5.95 for fish, chips and mushy peas what a bargain. Thwaites beer was also excellent. Recommended.

With it's warming real flame fire, great selection of reasonably priced food and beer, can't ask for a better place,. Eaten here many times and it's always great.

Booked to have lunch for a girls family get togetheron a Saturday afternoon 24th February. There were eleven of us and from the minute we arrived we had a lovely welcome and excellent service.

I come here regularly with my two young boys. The food is always great. The staff are nice and nothing is too much trouble, especially when it comes to the kids!! The pub is cosy with a warm atmosphere, friday tea time especially!

Having reviewed the Hare and Hounds previously after a poor visit I wanted to write another review after going last night.

Despite there being only 1 other table eating we waited an extremely long time for our food which was at best mediocre. Very unimaginative salad.

Our 2nd visit since the new owners took over a couple of weeks ago and th food was lovely. My wife had the Lamb and Apricot pie & I had the Chicken Tikka curry. The portions are huge so skip the starter go for a dessert if by chance you have room for it. The landlord is very experienced having owned and managed restaurants in the Saddleworth area for many years and they are now serving food 12-8pm also - highly recommended - Andy and Bev

First time I’ve been here but not the last - this was a great place, really friendly atmosphere - the staff were lovely and attentive, the prices are cheap yet the quality of the food was excellent, and it was served quickly so no worrying about being late back to work. Overall I was very impressed, and they also welcome dogs so we took a little puppy along which was great.

Fantastic little pub, slightly above average price larger range but a good few choices for drafts, bottle larger and spirts. Good food here too, food comes in good portions with daily deals everyday. Staff are lovely and welcoming always happy to be working. Will always come back here when am pasting by.

we took my mother in law who was visiting us from Devon, for a relaxed Monday lunch. The pub has been updated and re-decorated since we last visited, and it has retained the cozy traditional pub feel to it. We were quite surprised at how busy ir was for a Monday lunchtime, but that just goes to show what a popular pub it is. The food was excellent pub fayre and very reasonable prices too.

Visited for lunch with my son, Friendly, quick service, lovely coal fire. My son had fish and chips, large fish lovely crispy batter. I had the chilli large portion with quite a kick.

Came here as we drove past and looked busy so thought it must be good. Well it exceded expectations. We ordered the calamari and black pudding fritters which were exceptional. My husband had the seabass and i had the steak. No fat on the steak.. tender and melted in your mouth. Reasonably priced. We will be back. Highly recommend

Came here as we saw it wasnt busy and we wanted a quick meal. I suppose we should have turned away at that point seeing only 4 cars in the car park at Sunday teatime. Ordered our meals, a steak meal, gammon and a kids chicken nugget meal and spoke breaded mushrooms. The breaded mushrooms were the only thing that was eaten. The steak was nealy all fat so about 80% of it ended up being chopped off or put back on the plate after chewing the fat which was all inside. The gammon was burnt only on the bottom which I didn't realise until taking the first bite so the rest of the time I had to spend cutting the burnt bottom from each piece. The peas were dry like they had been cooked days ago and the chips were thew same. My child who normally eats for england ate a few chips and 1 nugget which is saying something.Atmosphere- there was none, unless a dog sat at the bar constantly crying and the occasional bang of a glass every 5 minutes is what you call atmosphere.The best thing about this place was that we were in and out in less than an hour which for a Sunday anywhere else is extremely quick, although when we arrived home 5 minutes drive later we were looking in the cupboards for something else to eat.

This was the only place we could find that was serving food and you could pay by card on a Monday. I ordered the fish and chips, the portion was enormous, it tasted great!

Friday tea was nice and reasonably priced. Atmosphere spoilt by extremely loud group of middle aged men and the fact the bar staff didnt address their unsociable behaviour, not really what you expect at 7pm. So my advice, go at lunch not early evening!
