Great place to go for lunch and tea

Been past the place so many times over the years, but never stopped by. Today I changed that, and decided to stop for some dinner while sat in the sun at the side of the pub. We were there for opening at midday. Along with a few other customers. Lovely, well kept stone house on Bury Road. Lovely character that is hard to come by around this neck of the woods. Partner had a jacket, with Tuna Mayo. I had the Hare Burger with fries. Jacket potato was actually baked, not just microwaved. Served with proper butter, and a fresh, crisp side salad and mixed leaves. Little drizzle of a nice salad dressing over, which didn't over power the quality of the salad itself. Good portion of tuna mayonnaise on top. Good quality tuna and mayonnaise used. Absolutely no complaints from my partner. I asked if it would be possible to swap out the BBQ sauce on my burger for something spicy if possible. Waitress suggested a homemade sweet chilli sauce. This was swapped out. No questions asked. No extra charge for doing so. Burger patties were hand made, succulent. Seasoned perfectly. Outstanding quality thick cut back bacon (I'm guessing no added water). Plenty of mature grated cheddar. Fresh lettuce, red onion and ripe tomatoes. The chilli sauce was also really, really tasty. Served on a sesame brioche. Fried were cooked to absolute perfection. I didn't leave a single crumb on the plate. I also asked if it would be okay to have a glass of tap water. No questions asked. Served with ice and slice of lemon. Food was brought to us outside after around a fifteen minute wait. A meat delivery arrived from the farm shop directly across the road by hand. Great to see them supporting a local supplier. All in all. The best pub grub we've had in a long time. At a lovely venue. With great staff, service, and prices. Easiest 5 stars I've given in a long time. Keep up the good work. And I'll be back soon.

Great place to go if you want good beer and food

Visited for Afternoon Tea today. Cannot rate it enough. One of the best Afternoon Teas I've had, and I've had a few. The service was first class, nothing to much trouble. Fabulous atmosphere. Thank You Dan and your team. I'll be back!

Bloody lovely grub, took my mum on Saturday and she had the cheese and onion pie, she said it’s the best she has ever had, I had the Cumberland sausage mash and onion gravy, was absolutely lovely! Thank you, we will be back!

Just been in and had scampi an chips and 16oz steak best food we've had an the staff were fantastic

We were looking for somewhere dog friendly to eat with friends after a local walk and found the Hare and Hounds online. I messaged ahead of time to reserve a seat and got a prompt and friendly response. We had a warm welcome, despite never having stepped in the place before, and were really impressed by the service and the food. All the staff were lovely! If we are ever in the area again we’ll definitely be back.

4 of us had the Sunday roast today. Very disappointed with amount and quality of meat. Lamb very fatty and wafer thin slices of beef. Too much gravy and peas. Usually have the normal menu which is very good, so would go back but not for Sunday roast.

Can’t speak highly enough of this pub but I’ll try. If you’re looking for a great atmosphere, friendly service and outstanding food then this is the place. This is how pubs used to be before truffle sauce and butternut jus, just great tasting traditional grub. The Hare Burger was one of the best burgers I have ever tasted, I think it had Lancashire cheese along with proper bacon which just knocked it out the park. The lady serving was friendly and professional and a real pleasure to talk too, all this along with an honest and truly homely atmosphere and very reasonable pricing you can’t go wrong. I will be making this a regular eatery.

I enjoy the Hare and Hounds for a social drink with friends. The food is tasty, the service is friendly and there’s a good atmosphere to the place.

Food was lovely but staff was very rude we had to ask for the bill from across the room because they where stood at bottom talking then said to each other they don’t need to shout across the room customer service training would be advantage such a shame lovely little place with lovely food

Excellent food and friendly service

Called last might with a friend for one pint. We stood at the bar to be totally ignored by the barman. He neither made eye contact, nor acknowledged our presence. He walked from the bar into the second bar, returned, left again and went to a table. He returned and put a wine bottle into an ice bucket. He then left yet again. In all this time he did not say he would be with us in a minute. After five minutes of being ignored we left. The worst service I have ever had. The response from the pub asks whether I have the right establishment and calls it odd, which appears to cast doubt on my review. I have the right establishment. No mention of an apology, no mention of improving service. Why am I not surprised? I notice the owner suggests I dish out a lot of one star reviews. A swift check of my reviews will show he is talking rubbish, which matches the service we didn't get.

My burger was burnt, and tasted so,the bacon had been made much earlier and was very hard,my husbands ribeye was served with a tin of garden peas ,was not worth £21 95, we will not be returning,

We ordered 2 lamb Sunday dinners, the lamb was like what you got from a supermarket freezer dept.. The roast potatoes also was like what you get from a freezer. ! The gravy and the lamb, didn't taste of lamb. !! The peas also seemed to of been frozen. !!

Popped in for a pint of English IPA, sadly there was a lengthy wait on food, but from past experience the food here is excellent, so opted to enjoy the liquid refreshment. The bar was busy, which confirms its popularity.

This is a fantastic proper pub offering a good selection of pub grub. Theres a great choice on the menu, jacket potatoes, salads, sandwiches, starters and a good choice of main meals, some of which you can choose large or small which I think is a good option.i had the Scampi and chips which was delicious. One friend had fish and chips and it looked lovely, the other had a tuna baguette and it was a decent size. The staff are lovely and friendly and theres a nice atmosphere in the pub. Overall a fantastic place to eat

Went for my sons 18th last Sunday the 20th of Feb,the food wasn't the best we've had much better from there.me and my mother inlaw had fish and salad the batter was soggy and my sons friend and father in law had the steak, neither were impressed,very fatty and tough.My sons and daughter had sausage and mash which was delish and the just chicken nugget meals were great.We'll still cone back as its a great pub...fabulous atmosphere and the staff are great too.

Great staff. Food was lovely. Fed and watered 5 people and 2 dogs for just over a hundred quid. Toilets super clean. Would highly recommend.

Great little pub. Quiz night on Wednesday is a good laugh. Our team was terrible, apparently Harry Potters wand isn't made of MDF! The beef and lamb baguettes, pot of gravy and fries. Lovely! Beer getting a bit expensive, but if you want Spoons go to Spoons! Dog friendly too.

Beer prices are high, but the food quality and service are brilliant.

Went yesterday for the first time. Really impressed. Service,food and atmosphere were all very good. Also very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going again.

I had the Chilli Con Carne and my wife had the Lamb Baguette with chips both meals came piping hot and with a smile from the waitress.the pub was lovely and warm and friendly we will definitely return for another meal soon. Ian and Sue

2nd visit here. 1st time for Sunday lunch and it was disappointing. We all had different. One starter was only warm. 2 people had scampi which was fine. Regarding Sunday lunch - beef was not too bad. Veg looked like it had been reheated under a grill. Yorkshire pudding was soggy. Roast potatoes seemed like frozen which had been over cooked. Desserts were OK but obviously bought in rather than home made. That said the young lady who served us was really good.

Easy enough to access with a car park at the back. Friendly service, clean tables and comfortable seating areas. I ordered a burger and chips which was very nice. The two beef patties were cooked just right and tasted nice. It had fresh onion, tomato and lettuce. The chips were warm, not hot but they was okay. Good value at just less than a tenner. Decent pint of keg.

Lovely dinner, braised streak was wonderful. So soft and tasty. Dessert yummy and the wine and coffee was flowing. Highly recommend this little gem.

Had lunch yesterday. We sat just chatting after eating for a couple of hours in a lovely atmosphere. The staff did not rush us away or push us to spend. We will be back

Lovely pub with great pub food and great service definitely worth a try

I visited today with my mum and grandma, we had fish and chips and a cod burger and they were delicious! The fish was cooked perfect and crispy! The staff were lovely, great service and great atmosphere. I would certainly come back again. Thank you

30 of us had a finger buffet post funeral at the crematorium which is down the road. The food was lovely, the staff really organised from our first enquiry to the actual day. Bar staff went above and beyond, too. Thank you, Hare and Hounds. We had a lovely afternoon with you!

Marked down on atmosphere only because the place had only just opened and there was only a few couples in but food and service was great. Will eat here again.

Randomly found this place in Google today and they had space for food. We found that it was very cozy feeling and welcoming pub that accepts dogs aswel (bonus). The food was amazing especially the halloumi fries. Was very good priced for the great quality of the food and great quality of service. Food was freshly cooked. Will be definitely going again.

Cold in pub sat with coat on worst chips ive ever had some not cooked would not eat there again ok for a drink when weather comes better to sit outside but will not be in a rush to go back

The public house inside is very nice and split level. It was my first visit on a Saturday with a friend for lunch. Lots of empty tables but we were sat next to the exit for the kitchen and toilets. Very little heating on so wasn't comfortable. The food was pretty basic, a few items weren't available and we booked for 1pm. Very odd to have such a limited menu. Food was just okay. I might go again for a drink but definitely not to eat. Was disappointing.

Very cold had to wear cost to keep warm the pastry on my cheese and onion pie was that hard I needed a hammer and chisel to cut it and the meat on my wife's Sunday dinner was that though she needed a hacksaw to cut it I will certainly not be visiting again

The restaurant was so cold we had to sit in our coats to eat. We waited a long time for the food but the food was 10/10. Waitresses nice but more interested in chatting about their social life. Been here many times and would still come back.

We had an hour to grab a quick bite to eat and this little pub didn’t fail. Lovely warm service. Very reasonably priced.. Really nice fresh traditional pub food. Looking forward to my next visit.

My partner and I went to this pub/restaurant for the very 1st time on Friday 1st July, I foned beforehand to make a table reservation as I was told it can be very busy on a Friday evening. I booked the Table for 7.30pm and we were about 15mins early, so no problem, we sat down and ordered drinks first, by the time the drinks arrived, we were ready to order our food, my partner ordered the 5oz gammon steak with all the trimmings and a few mushrooms to go with it as well, I ordered the batterd Cod Fish with chips & mushy peas. I think after ordering the meals it was about 10mins when we were given our food, I have to say that both meals were very nice an the plates were Hot too. It was very busy in there at the time we were eating & noisy, I know it's a pub/restaurant & you have to expect that, but it was a bit too much for my partner, all together, it was a very nice experience trying somewhere different, and I would certainly want to go again, the Staff were very polite & helpful at all times, the car park is only small, compared to a lot of places, so be aware, we only just managed to get a space when we got there 15 mins early. Would definitely recommend this establishment for the Food and helpful Staff.!!!!!!!!!

Beers well kept, food is unfussy, reasonably priced and tastes good. The kitchen is small so sometime food can take a while but the quality is usually very good.

Very disappointed with service portion size and quality of food . I would not recommend if you expect a nice meal you can get a better meal from a chippy .

We ordered magners and the bottles were warm. Service was rude, I went to order a drink and the bar tender said that she had already been round the tables for last orders but they had not been to my table so I could not order.

Couldn't have been happier. We were a table for 5 plus dog. They do a good, standard pub menu executed flawlessly. For the price, I can't think I've found a better pub meal. The young man who served us was lovely. Will be back again in a heart beat.

The food is always really good and the staff are excellent. Dog friendly, cosy, clean, great for families. Specials board and amazing value for money.

When reserving a table, insist that staff put it in writing. I phoned at 4.30pm to be told "You don't have to book we have plenty of tables". Arrived at 4.45pm "Sorry we are fully booked". I can't comment on the quality of the food as we didn't get any!

Tricky Covid route because it's a pub & bar on two levels, but they have done it very well. We took our well behaved puppy and the bar staff & waiter service couldn't have been nicer. Nice pub menu with usual suspects plus a specials board. We both had the lamb steak which was very tasty but a little too fatty for Mrs. W's taste. Loads of fries and a nice salad & coleslaw to go with it. Busy pub with a great atmosphere Excellent place - will be back.

This was our first visit back since lockdown. The staff are just as lovely as ever. Covid rules all adhered too, Food was delicious!

Eat here last Thursday and the food was wonderful. We both had the mince beef pie and it was delicious !!!! So tasty and flavoursome. The young lady behind the bar so attentive and really goes the extra mile. Regally welcoming, warm and friendly. Always a nice atmosphere in the pub with a nice clientele. Having tried almost all the dishes on the menus and some of the specials this really is my favourite put to go too. You will not be disappointed

We've been here a few times for a drink, homely, friendly traditional pub serving great food. We called in for a Friday Chippy tea which was great value. Hoping to try the Steak night and Curry night too. Probably better to phone and book a table at busy times.

We have been visiting this pub for years, for a drink and food. I had to write a review because the food and service last night was top class. We had starters of buffalo wings and the pate, delicious I had the seabass off the specials board and it was absolutely perfect, very tasty, best seabass dish I've had anywhere! My husband had rag pudding, he wanted to lick the plate it was that good. All this with friendly staff, lovely warm fire and a lovely atmosphere, it's a brilliant family pub

Was in this pretty nice pub last night for a catch up with friends - chosen as it was local and has good beer. We didn’t eat but the food looked good but was totally put off coming back to sample by the service and attitude of the staff. They seemed more interested in their phones than catching the eye of people trying to buy a drink. Seemed like the owner wasn’t in and it was being run by a group of rather surly twenty somethings. Not what I would expect and I can’t see us coming back. If management are interested then we were in between 7:30 and about 10:30 on the 30th. I hope this helps as you have a nice establishment but looks like it’s being let down by some of the staff. Thanks

Well called in here for quick tea not realising it was steak club, well it was best lamb steak for the price i had ever tasted and had option of Fries and Salad which was nice than the usual, my husband went for the rag pudding and he said it at generous amounts of meat you could taste and would defo recommend this place nice little pub and friendly staff,

Sunday 4th November we had a family birthday lunch at the Hare and Hounds and enjoyed an excellent afternoon.There were 9 of us with ages ranging from 20 to 75 and there was something on the menu to suit everyone.The food was very good and the service we had was likewise. The staff should be commended for their efficient and very pleasant service which certainly added to our afternoon. We have dined at the Hare and Hounds a number of times and have never been disappointed and would certainly recommend it. Thank you once again for a very pleasant birthday lunch.
