Really lovely pub and the food was brilliant. Staff were great, helpful and friendly and the selection of beers is fantastic.

Great place friendly staff and good service and atmosphere will be going back again for a meal hopefully soon has a beer garden looking forward too going back soon 🥃🥂🍻🍻🍺🍹🍸🍷

Ran the Tatton Half Marathon, came to replenish with a Sunday Roast and a couple of pints. Lazy, slow paced afternoon, where we ate, chatted, drank and left happy. Top venue, always has been.

5 meals,2 steak,2 fish and chips,1jacksons pudding £85 in total Steak cooked well and size good for money but tasteless chips on all meals were limp and soggy fish was also soggy tried to eat the insides but was grey,peas was a huge dollop of cold mashed peas( not mushy)the mashed potato on the pudding meal was microwaved and dry round edges,we had booked was a Wednesday night but shouldn't make a difference really.would not return

I have been a local to this pub for years and love it. I came for tea recently but, despite being a quiet evening, I noticed tables with empty glasses and food plates left on them during the entirety of my visit and food remnants on some tables which put me off sitting and eating there. The bar staff were not busy. It’s such a shame, when a few years ago the service was so much better. The beer remains spot on and the pub is still a favourite but I have noticed this decline in service such as described during my last few visits, even the broken sign on the side of the building. I went elsewhere to eat as a result and no longer recommend the Baum to others. Such a shame when Rochdale has few good places to go in the centre and I fear for its future if this continues.

I spent three hours at the Baum in Rochdale today with my family. I was comfortable sat on the cushioned bench seat. The pub was dressed ready for Halloween, atmosphere nice. Plenty of beer and lager options. My wine new Zealand spot on. We ate lunch not one complaint even with vegetarians in our group ate well. Even the music hit the spot for me I heard black panthers and Michael Kawinaki so nice. Sorry if I spelt names wrong. Will definitely return. Happy customer.

What a lovely oldy world pub set in the centre of Rochdale. Great food it would have been 5 star for the food, but the only thing wrong was it wasn't very hot

Was in Rochdale for an appointment, so thought we would go to The Baum for lunch. It was around 2pm on a Friday, Most of the tables were reserved from 3pm, apart from couple of tables near the toilets, which we didn't want to sit in. Ended up sitting near the bar but on stools, ordered our food, which was OK, not as nice as our last visit, we were still there at 3pm the reserved tables still empty, bit dissapointing as I would prefer a back rest. We didn't reserve a table before hand as it wasn't really planned,

Found myself in Rochdale and googled good pubs and this popped up. To be fair I found this place to be a little bit good and bad. The good….beautiful pub, excellent beer garden, decent range of products The bad …..lots of seats reserved, stood patiently at the bar, attractive young women walks in after I’d been there a few minutes and manager walks behind bar and serves her straight away….Camden lager didn’t taste right …

Nice pub and a good beer garden

Been going to the Baum for years on and off. The place went down hill a while ago but definitely back to its excellent self. Even though its in the town centre its a couple of minutes walk from the other pubs. Staff and food are good. The beer selection is great as always.

Excellent, quiet Tuesday afternoon, popped in for a light lunch, had the cheese and onion pie, brought back memories from childhood.

A great little pub next to the famous Toad Lane, first ever successful, cooperative shop. Great range of real ales too.

Lovely atmosphere, décor like stepping back in time very traditional. Spotless and clean. Well recommend. Food is excellent.

Excellent traditional pub, easy to see why it has won CAMRA pub of the year in the past. Excellent bee, great food at very reasonable prices and friendly staff.

I came here about 7-8 years ago and for many reasons it was a poor experience, this one was much better, but some of the niggles from last time are still there. As a CAMRA centre, you would expect good beer, it was, the service was also very good, much better than the last time. The food and and selection was good quality pub food and the group all enjoyed their meals. I had the fish and chips and it was very good; also, the portions were quite generous . We had to ask for cutlery, but we had to ask for side plates and cutlery last time so that was an improvement. So all in all much better service and food / drink quality on this visit, and a good time was had by all. Also, I might not now make it 7-8 years before revisiting.

Food looks great from what I have seen, good menu with some nice choices, plenty of drinks to go at. Nice place to socialise, one of the nicer places to go in Rochdale.

A must place to visit in rochdale.Try one of the many beers on offer to delight your taste buds.a real traditional feel .food is great too.

Waited an hour for starters which were ok but nothing special when they arrived. Then waited another half hour for main courses after finishing the starters. Again ok but nothing special. We didn’t hang around for dessert The prices on the website didn’t correlate with the actual prices on the menu. All six of us were underwhelmed,particularly by the exceptionally slow service. When we arrive the place wasn’t busy. Disappointed.

Great choice of beers and great value

We had a wonderful private event in the upstairs area and the staff were extremely helpful & accomodating. Shelby, the assistant manager was very informative when I rang up providing all the details of the buffet options and Ben, the manager, was very hospitable and flexible on the day allowing us to decorate the room however we wanted, allowed us to choose the time of the buffet and there was no time pressure for people to leave. Really enjoyed the day, the food and the atmosphere here and would definietly recommend for anyone wanting to host a private event! :)

Sadly not a great experience. Waited 1 hour for food. Burger was good, rag pudding OK, bean salad awful, just a tin of beans on lettuce with no dressing! We were also cold sitting in the conservatory area. No atmosphere. Won't be going back.

This was an amazing little pub. Searched on Google maps (other search options available). The staff were friendly as soon as we entered and asked about food. There was an amazing vibe with everyone there drinking, talking and eating. The food came and was better than expected not because I was expecting it to be rubbish but because I was expecting small tapas like dishes. They were tapas style but generous potions (As seen in photo). The food was very well flavoured and appears that the chef takes as much care and attention on the last few dishes of the day as he does the first ones. Service was prompt and they were very attentive to offer help when ordering and serving the food. Will be a place we revisit in the future and will tell friends about. Amazing evening .

Alway been a big fan of the baum but today was definitely 1 of there off days. Our order couldn't of been easier aswell. We ordered 5 cheese and onion pies as there reputation proceeds and a cesar salad. The pies come with bean so we ordered mushy please instead.. after waiting an hour with an empty restaurant our orders came and were all wrong. And just to top it of what fid come looked like a kids meal just to rub it in our faces.. not happy and will not be going back.

Perfect place for tasty lunch with mum, great options, atmosphere and staff. Two large drinks each and lunch less than £30. Would recommend.

We went tonight we booked in advance and we were told sorry you can only order mains ? Very disappointed looking forward to a family meal very disappointed, but we all went along with thos request..... I ordered steak it was the worst not to my requirement med rare it was over cooked indeed And like I said very disappointed the rest of our party were ok with the meals but you could see it was a rushes event we were all a bit taken back

This was my first time in the pub, I met up with family and friends, The atmosphere was great, The service and food were great, it's a pub I would visit again;

My food experience hasn't been good the last two times I have been. When they get it right it's brilliant but often there are problems with mine or others orders.

Lovely meal, chips are amazing, service was fab.

Gammon steak was really nice. I asked for pineapple but got an egg with the Gammon, I would have preferred peas than the pea shoots on my plate, but that's my preference. The meal was nice, but rather have pineapple.

After a wander around the Coop museum next door, 7 of us went to The Baum for lunch. The conservatory was a great place to eat- a really pleasant place even though the sky was grey, the food choices were great. We enjoyed a mix of small dishes, salads and a portion of chips! 6 had tea but I pushed the boat out and had a shandy! We felt the service and ambiance was great and though the pub isn’t old it has the feel of a Victorian pub. We really enjoyed the venue.

Great place and fantastic food, been going for years. Staff are always welcoming and good atmosphere. Please bring back the blackened chicken from the old menu and it would be good to be able to eat in the pub bit like we used to, rather than just the dining area.

Loved eating here tonight after a walk. I had the famous cheese and onion pie and beer, which was amazing. Service was fantastic, everyone was very friendly. Loved it.

Great food and a place to relax

Three of us visited at lunchtime. The pub itself is very pleasant, cosy, comfortable, and old fashioned. The choice of real ale (6 pumps) is a beer lovers delight and it is exceptionally well kept. We had three different meals, each of which was of much higher quality than you generally expect in a pub. The staff are outstanding, courteous, attentive, friendly and very helpful. The Baum is a real hidden gem and a credit to it's owners. If you're a beer fan or a food lover, this one is not to be missed. Easily one of the best pubs I have ever visited.

Great little hideaway you will not be disappointed

We used to go regularly to The Baum but fell out of love with it after a couple of very disappointing visits. Out of the blue we decided to visit again 3 weeks ago. So far we have been back 4 times! Superb staff. A great selection of beers and ales. A proper good old fashioned pub ambiance as well. Best of all though is the food. Wow! Simple dishes taken to another level. Thanks to all those involved at The Baum. The people behind the bar who greet you with a smile. The excellent, talkative and cheery staff who wait on you when eating there. And of course those behind the scenes in the kitchen. Your food is amazing. For me, it’s the best pub in Rochdale!

Small little pub with good food, wouldn’t think it was in the centre of Rochdale

Only had a cask beer this time but wife had been before and had some lovely traditional food. Wide range of beer and the best bitter i had was fab. Definately returning.

Lovely old building with good atmosphere. Lots of steps but only one or two at a time still a bit difficult if you've got mobility problems. Good hot food. Good service.

Went on Thursday night. Had booked a table, pub was very busy due to unexpected party. However, the staff were quick to serve, attentive and friendly and the food excellent. Will be calling in again 😄

What a gorgeous little gem. Passing through Rochdale we wanted somewhere nice for a healthy pub lunch. This was a stunning little historic pub apparently fully a slice of the past, preserved on a tiny street with gas lamps opposite a huge church, beside a building that commemorates the start of the cooperative movement and is now a museum. As if that was not enough, the food was fabulous, fresh, beautifully put together — we had a tapas like collection of delicious plates. The beer was real ale and the staff we met were just so personable and friendly. We ate under a pretty tree in the back garden but there were lovely small saloons inside looking like something out of diagon alley. You have to go there if visiting Rochdale.
