Lovely pub if you're looking for somewhere for a quiet meal. Good variety of food (decent sized menu plus specials) which all tastes home cooked and decent quality at a reasonable price. Pub is a little on the chilly side at winter but completely understandable given how ridiculous energy costs are nowadays and how much it must cost to attempt to heat large high ceiling rooms with single glazing - just make sure you wear a jumper in cooler months and you'll be fine. Friendly service and nice decor.

We stopped here for Sunday carvery As it was the only pub around that had space as didn’t book elsewhere, thus was around 2.30pm so quite late lunch. 1st service : well it didn’t really exist Stood at carvery area for sometime with staff ignoring us, when the lady turned up she was polite, Sat down with food, no cutlery! Had to find someone to ask, the pub only had 3 other diners so not busy. Didn’t see anyone throughout the meal, it was like there was no staff only diners. Once finished had to stand waiting again to pay, We was then asked “are you full” I replied yes thanks. Payed the bill I then said thank you & bye had no reply!!! Food: It was ok, better then customer service, But some of the food was quite cold so really not that great overall The pub was nicely decorated but all the windows open in mid oct made it cold. Sat with coat on. Again if there was customer service they may of thought about their customer sitting eating in s cold restaurant. It could be a great place if more thought was put into there customer. No brainier. So mixed feelings, food taste good nice choices, but just about Luke warm not good, Service no existent So would not return.

Lovely staff. Amazing carvery. Choice of 4 meats, plenty of veg, stuffing, yorkies, sauces, gravy, crisp roasties. Only grumble food was not hot enough, but we soon wolfed it down!! Garden is very neglected, with a lot of tlc it could be a lovely place to sit. £36 for 2 carvery’s, 1 pint of lager and half of cider.

Cheap burger, salty. Fried eggs burnt on underside and crinkle cut chips of poor quality. Another customer sent their food back to be heated up. Pub looks nice on the outside and ok inside, friendly staff, but food very poor. What a shame.

After surviving a day trip to Butlins we swung into this treasure of a proper pub on the journey home. Arriving early evening , we were greeted by a relaxed and welcoming bartender who, when asked if there was a kids menu, replied no… but ‘we can do you anything in the main menu as a smaller children’s portion, if you want’ What a fabulous offering and idea, unheard of in any pub I’ve visited anywhere… So we ordered plenty and enjoyed it all, real old school proper home cooked loveliness… Friendly, attentive and just how things should be, look forward to visiting again…

We visited the Royal Oak on the 6th August. As a family of 4 we were looking forward to their carvery. Well, we certainly were not disappointed. A choice of beef, gammon or pork. In fact we were offered a choice of all three. The meat was well prepared and very good quality. I’ve been to similar places where they cut the meat with a potato peeler, well not here. A big selection of vegetables and the homemade roast potatoes were to die for. The food was hot and not luke warm like some places that do carvery’s. I just about managed a rhubarb crumble and custard for desert. This is somewhere definitely worth a visit. Don’t miss out..

Went for Sunday roast, had previously booked table. My wife and I are both vegetarian, but she has severe garlic allergy. No problem for chef, they did us two totally different vegetarian dishes, both of which were lovely. Vegetarian gravy brought to the table without us having to request it. Even though they were short staffed, nothing was too much trouble. At this Sunday carvery, you do not queue, but each table is sent up separately, therefore, you may experience a little wait, but the system works.

This pub is under new Management since we visited previously.Dropped in for lunch, Although the pie I ordered was good the battered fish and chips my wife ordered was rather disappointing, the fish was small and seemed to be straight from a standard packet the batter was soggy and the chips also seemed to be from a very basic supermarket range with a price of £12.95 not good value for money. Service was a be slow and having ask for sauce this never did appear.

New to the area, thought we’d try this hostelry after seeing it advertised in the local newspaper. Certainly not disappointed - received a warm welcome, comfortable surroundings and crackling log fire. Ordered steaks which were cooked to perfection, very succulent as was the accompanying mushroom. Well presented with lovely chunky chips and onion rings. Good value for money and great menu choices to suit all pockets. We will return.

We've been there twice now since the change of management, and both times the food has been excellent and obviously home cooked. The staff are generally pleasant and helpful, at the moment it is excellent value with their two for one offer. However even without that we would go again. The only slight downside is the atmosphere is a little 'soulless'. Around the open fireside near the bar it is lovely but further back it could do with the fire lit at the end too as it's a bit chilly. I think this would help, as would more Customers, but this should come with time I reckon.

This used to be an excellent place to go for food when arrived noticed under new management but still went in. Took a while to get a drink then sat down with menus both ordered sirloin steak one medium and one medium rare. When came out both cooked well done we were both hungry so didn’t say anything! Both steaks grisly which for the price wasn’t good. Very embarrassing as I took my friend there for her birthday and told her it was really good here. Won’t be returning anytime soon shame old owners were lovely and food was excellent!

Thought we would visit as there has been a change of management. We were the only punters in at 17:45, and the chef was not on site (food starts at 18:00). Bar person / waitress was very pleasant. When chef arrived, the first two items on the limited menu were off today! We both had to have the lasagne, which was fine, except lacking in sauce - plenty of meat though. A few people arrived later, but atmosphere did not really pick up. The decor, furniture and carpeting is spartan (the photos give a false impression). Under the previous landlord, there were always a few local drinkers sat at the bar, and a parrot, but they appear to have gone elsewhere. The sharing platter as a started was good. We won't be rushing back - probably wait for the next change of management. Quite expensive for what you get - better ,cheaper venues not far away.

Birthday celebration meal. We had a fantastic evening at the Royal Oak, log fire burning and a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and very friendly. The pub had very kindly decorated the table and surrounding area. New menus from our last visit and presented in a nice leather folder, much better than our previous experience of wooden clipboards..!! We have seen that the pub is under new management, and it shows that they are trying to make some nice improvements. Pleasant music playing and cosy atmosphere. Wider range of starters and menu choices in general. Food was great, and the staff were very accommodating with the birthday cake. A great evening had by all......will be returning soon.....

After a 2 hour + drive back to Bognor we decided to stop here to get a Sunday lunch as it was on our way home. We had been day dreaming of, and salivating over Yorkshire puddings, well cooked meat and tasty veg, for over two hours. We should have turned around as soon as we’d set foot over the threshold. The car park was empty, and there was no-one inside eating. An empty pub on a Sunday afternoon - not usually a good sign. But we were hungry! We were told by a less-than welcoming, unenthusiastic bar woman, there was pork and beef on roasts menu. We ordered a whitebait starter to share and two pork dinners. We were sat on the smallest table in the “restaurant” so decided to eat in the fresh air. If you liked your legs being constantly caressed and tickled by knee high weeds then this is the beer garden for you. Run down, unloved potentially amazing beer garden. We ate our mediocre whitebait (I don’t think you can judge cooking skills on whitebait however so at this stage I was reserving judgement) without garnish which was served pretty quickly. We then decided the move inside for our roasts as it got a little chilly outside so moved back to our original tiny table. By this stage another family had come in to order, followed by a table of 3. Phew I thought, perhaps it just picks up later in the afternoon. Then we waited, and waited, and waited, for about 25 minutes. Then we saw two plates of food come out and started to get excited but they moved swiftly passed us to the family sat next to us. Two roast beef dinners with Yorkshires!! Mmm! I let the waitress finish serving the table then asked her how long our food would be as we’d ordered way before the family of four. She looked surprised that there was another check on but said she would speak to the kitchen. Another 5 minutes later we were served with what looked like a post-war plate of thinly sliced cheap pork with burnt but soft and soggy roast potatoes, some dried up peas, sloppy cabbage and squishy cauliflower. My grandparents would have loved it!! But, no Yorkshire pudding!! I mean come on, I know the tradition is “roast beef and Yorkshires” but everybody in the bloody world wants a Yorkshire with whatever meat they may be having! So we disappointedly tucked in and.....the crap thin pork was cold!!! I mean how many things can you get wrong on a roast dinner?! The veg was roasting hot, annihilated and “yummily” mushy but the pork was cold?!!? All this went so terribly wrong in the half an hour we waited. So I stomped up to the bar, plonked it in front of the bar maid and told how we had waited so long for this and the meat was cold?? No apology, not an ounce of s*** given and off she went to the kitchen to blast it in the microwave. Did she ask to see if my husband would like his meat warm too? Noooo of course she didn’t because she didn’t care. My husband was that hungry he wolfed the cold meat and crap veg down, and then finished mine as I couldn’t stomach another mouthful of now lava hot tasteless food. Not one visit to the table throughout to ask how the food was. I served behind bars and waitressed for years in my youth and it is basic stuff to ask how the meal is. It’s an opportunity to find out if what you have sent out is good and that the customers are happy. I wanted to ask for our money back but we were tired and I don’t think my husband was up for me “causing a scene”. So I though I would share with the public instead how dreadful this experience was and to advise never to go there for a Sunday lunch. It is safe to say, it’s the worst Sunday lunch I have ever eaten.

Tick order taken promptly and was happy to alter anything we did or did not want. Tick food delivered quickly and portion size was excellent. After being chatted up by the resident parrot! We ordered our meals. Chicken fajitas and the beer battered cod. Both were out of this world!! Fresh, cooked well, great portion sizes. Service with a smile. Fantastic prices. My one and only gripe which is not their fault is the exit from the carpark onto the really busy road, in the dark, on a blind bend, is a little scary. We were a little disappointed at the menu choices, both mains and deserts were very limited. The sizzling steak has been recommended by a friend, so we gave it a go. The meal includes grilled tomato, which I am allergic to. I explained this and asked for it to be replaced with extra mushrooms, only to be told mushrooms are a side dish! When my meal arrived low and behold grilled tomato on my plate. It was sent back. On a positive note the service was very quick and food freshly cooked. The lemon meringue pie was lovely. We were waiting for a while and were pretty much ignored by the two staff and then when asking if we could just sit ourselves down we were told to wait to be seated in a rather passive aggressive manner. Then the member of staff spent a while at the til pointedly checking in orders and the disappeared whilst the other staff member continued to pull pints and ignore us. So we left for the much more welcoming Lamb in Pagham.

Have eaten here several times now from a lunchtime snack, Sunday roast and mid week meals and have always been impressed with the quality of the food and size of the portions, the 16oz T bone special was huge and great value. Friendly staff, roaring log fire and a great pint of Gales HSB! Have tried all the pubs in Pagham and although this is not my nearest it is my favourite by far.

My mother and I had a Sunday roast here and the food was OK but could have been better, you could tell it was microwaved.Service was quick our food came out within 5 minutes. The portions were big but just a shame it wasn't freshly made. Probably wouldn't eat here again.

Like the new decor and layout. Food, as always, good menu, hot and tasty unlike some new pubs locally. Able to book in advance. Service very polite and friendly. Beers are always kept well. What is there not to like and enjoy

This pub serves good food in ample portions which I think is reasonably priced. Friendly staff who make an effort with their customers. Ale is not bad either.

Mid week evening in mid September is not usually popular with diners, but the pub was quite busy with drinkers and diners. Enjoyed our Cumberland sausage + egg and chips and Hickory chicken + boiled potatoes and salad, washed down with Fullers HSB and Pinot Grigio. Service was good and the food and drink reasonably priced.

Called in for Sunday lunch and was very impressed with the excellent food and service. Really relaxing with a nice compact garden. Also very child friendly even offering 'little people ' cutlery. Well worth a visit

Stopped by at The Royal Oak with friends for a meal and have to say it exceeded our expectations as the meal was first class as was the service. The loaded potato skins were probably the best I have had in an English pub and the cajun chicken was excellent. My friends had the Pork loin and cottage pie and none had nothing but praise for their food. The staff were polite and helpful and as for the rude Landlord well they must have either been sleeping or out of the pub as we didn't find any rudeness at all.

We can only say drinks were great service was very good food looked very nice but due to being packed after drinks went on to another area to have a meal and not packed, but we should have been there earlier as food did look good.

Average meal. Service was not up to standard of other pubs in area. Due to them not coming back to take our order for deserts we paid up and left.

had a lovely meal here last night with family. I have been once before and had the lamb shank. It was so tender and tasty I suggested it to my mum and she loved it . I had the most amazing chicken, leek and bacon pie. Massive chunks of chicken breast and gammon it was delicious. Good size portions and all the food was piping hot. My son had the burger and my hubby had the mixed grill. They said it was amazing. Pudding was to die for. The cheesecake was out of this world . The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. I very pleasant evening. Will be back to try more on the menu

Having driven past The Royal Oak at Lagness innumerable times we had always wondered what the food was like, especially as their advertising board said "sizzling steaks". As my father in law loves steak we booked this as a surprise for his 90th birthday. We wanted this to be a special occasion so we asked if we could add a few things like balloons and a birthday cake. The staff were really receptive to this; they even bought out the cake with candles lit and joined us in singing happy birthday! All in all an excellent evening meal and we will will return. Value for money was good - it worked out at just over £25.00 per head including starters, mains, deserts and drinks.

Came here on my way home from a meeting on 10th November, and all I can say is what an amazing meal it was. When I entered the pub I was great with a warm and comforting classic pub feel. All the staffed were friendly and seem to enjoy their work. Not only that it was very well priced as the lamb shank was just £9.95 which for lamb is really great value for money. The lamb shank was excellent, it practically fell off the bone it was so tender and the vegetables were all fresh and locally sourced. The gravy is to die for and the compliment it all was a deliciously creamy mash. The whole experience was a joy to be a part of. The service was efficient without being intrusive and they were always watching as to when we needed something. It was like they had a sixth sense for their customers. On top of that the bar was always staffed and never once did I have to wait for a barman to appear to be seen to.The icing on the cake was them allowing me to stay a couple of hours to get some work done. There are plenty of plugs dotted around for laptops and the wifi is free access. I would personally like to thank the owners and all the staff (including the cook) for a fantastic evening.

I was picking up my car from a garage in Kirdford. to think my wife are bringing Me across I decided to stop at the half-moon pub to treat her to lunch as we approach the pub the front door appeared locked however there was no times of opening or closing or no menus we walked around the side to find people inside as we arrived towards the rear of the pub we presented with a beautiful garden and I noticed a rear patio door I opened the patio door and a man said what do you want? I said are you open? His reply was the front door is locked. What does that tell you. I found this to be extremely rude considering they are supposed to be serving the publicyoung lady came up to us and told us sorry sir we’re not opening until midday at this time. It was 1146 whilst the pub was closed. The man’s rudeness has made me realise I never need to visit this pub again. I’m not sure if he’s the owner of the worker chef or just someone in there, but I found his rudeness to be completely and utterly unacceptable on this occasion.

Aweful service, visited with my sister for a quick lunch, took ages for our sandwiches to arrive, my hot chocolate was cold, plates/dishes left on tables - seemed to be plenty of people milling around in the kitchen, and that’s where they stayed. One person bringing food out, two behind the counter - no co-ordination. Queue to be served was ridiculous. Don’t think I’ll be visiting again.

Un hermoso pub, en un lugar hermoso. El personal era amable y acogedor y la comida era increíble, vivo en Londres, pero sin duda intentaré hacer otra visita, me imagino que sería encantador durante el verano
