What a shame, the place was packed probably theatre goers ,like us. Despite booking a table, there was nothing available and one chap rushed off his feet trying to serve everyone. One female member of staff had no idea and no explanation when I said we had booked. We had no choice but to find an alternative place to eat, where there was a good amount of staff , served quickly and tasty food.

It won't let me add photos to this review. I can only think they don't abide by Trip Advisor's rules as they are so graphic. It really was that bad. My lasagne was burnt all over. How the person who cooked it or the bar staff who brought it out felt that was acceptable is beyond me. Having seen another review I agree that they can only be crossing everything that the customer is blind and has no sense of taste or smell. My wife's hunters chicken followed a similar pattern. Our son's tomato pasta was just pasta in what I can only describe as red water. I struggle with how you can get that so badly wrong. He's only 2 and I reckon if he put all the ingredients in a pan on his toy kitchen he'd have a better chance of producing something more edible. My brother had a mixed grill. The steak was well done instead of medium. That was the least of his problems. A pneumatic drill would have struggled to work through them. I can't believe Greene King allow food like that to be served. Surely they spot check their own places. I have never seen anything like it. The odd bad meal I can accept. I vote with my feet usually and just don't go back but this was something else. I just still cannot believe the person cooking the food is checking that off and giving it the thumbs up and thinking that's a job well done. We all left hungrier than when we went in there which is never a good sign when you go out for a meal.

Would never eat here again. Worst food I have ever had in any pub or restaurant. You could build houses with the sausages. Whoever is the chef doesn’t know how steak is cooked. Asked for medium rare and not well over done. The lasagne wasn’t burnt it was cremated and inedible. The chef has murdered the lasagne. I think they should sack their chef and get someone new in before they have no customers left. Most disappointed and dissatisfied place I’ve ever been too. I thought being Greene king pub it would be good place to go but how wrong I was. My recommendation is avoid and go elsewhere unless the chef is sacked!

Love this place - so friendly. Ladies don't be afraid to venture in on your own. Ditch the partner, ditch the kids, take yourself off for a wander around town and stop here for a glass or two and some lunch if you fancy a little 'you' time. The staff are superb - very busy at times but they always acknowledge you and you won't wait too long. Also if you're a quiz fanatic, Thursday evenings are the best I've witnessed. The QM is superb - advise to pre-book a table as it's a very popular night. Congrats to the Landlady here she runs a great pub in a lovely location.

We came in as my partner had been there before when she was at uni and wanted to have some food and do the pub quiz that was being promoted. They first told us there wasn't a table for us to sit and eat because of the quiz, but then there was and we were able to order. We ordered fish and chips on the app only to be told 5 minutes later that they weren't able to make it and we needed to order something else. We then chose Mac and cheese. As we had paid for the extra price for fish and chips, I went to the bar to order drinks and ask about it. The drinks that were showing available on the app were not available and we had to pick something else again. While this was happening the server went and asked if my partner liked Onion Rings and pushed that the extra price would be a portion of onion rings despite me asking at the bar for it to be on a portion of chips. They then charged extra for the chips as well. The food was... Alright? The Mac and cheese felt microwaved (the middle was significantly hotter than the outer edges despite a hot bowl), it didn't taste that much different from a ready meal and was a small portion for the price. Afterwards we stayed for the pub quiz. The guy came over and asked for 2 pounds. We said could we pay by phone or pay at the bar if that was possible. He was quite jokey and said with a big smile "well can you go to the nearest cash point or something?" which we pointed out we didn't have a card. He then just laughed and said "Not today" and walked off, much to our confusion. We then realised he wasn't coming back and we weren't allowed to participate so left. No where on the signs does it say cash only and other pub quizzes usually allow you to pay at the bar or by contactless. As we were leaving we saw another table having a problem with their food as well, as their garlic bread had come out at roughly the same time as their desserts. Overall, just a really weird experience that wasnt very enjoyable in the end and does not make either of us want to come back.

We have just had a meal and drink. After we ordered both we were told they only had enough burgers for one and we were offered an alternative. I then asked about the drinks and was told the wine I ordered was out of stock. Another alternative. I ordered a sweet for my grandson plus another drink and (again) had to ask where my drink was. To be fair the lady behind the bar was having to deal with all the customers. The other lady was clearing tables. They were both polite and helpful. Surely there should have been more staff? Not fair on those who were working. Toilets in a serious need of cleaning and sorting out the flooding. Such a shame that I have to say some negative comments as this pub has atmosphere and a warm welcome. Come on management! Support your staff and toilets!!

First time there. There is no table service. It took quite a while to get the food and it was good. The lady who took our order at the bar was amicable and cheerful. She was smiling and attentive. Unfortunately 6 dishes on the menu were not available so that is not a good thing. I had a sharing platter which seemed to mush some of the things that were mentioned in the menu so again it wasn't a plus for them. All and all the service was okay of course there is room for improvement.

Needing a bite to eat on a late afternoon/early Sunday evening popped into this Green King establishment. I had lived close to a Green King before I moved to Chi, and found the food in The Sandmartin in Chafford to be good quality at a reasonable price - Sadly the food served here was far short. We ordered three steaks, two medium rare, one medium, all three delivered were medium rare, cold grilled tomato, missing garnish and looking very sad. Dispite steak knives being provided, sawing action did not manage to cut through part of my portion for several minutes of work. Left wishing we hadn't bothered and wondered if they had given up trying to compete with the local Wetherspoons we saw. Chichester town centre looks like a dead zone at this time on a Sunday. (edit) Check my other reviews, I do not usually post negative reviews. Responded as requested in 'owners response' but no reaction or reply so far! Early days yet?

We booked which was easy enough online as we wanted to watch the Champions League. All was going well until our food arrived. Part of the order was wrong and when it was pointed out, the young man firstly with a very rude attitude went to the guy behind the bar to confirm what was order, he then disappeared off to the kitchen. He returned, said quite rudely that we couldn’t keep the dish that was wrong and have the the correct one as well. We hadn’t even asked to keep the incorrect items!! He took them back to the kitchen, but only after arguing as to having sauce on the side as opposed to how it was ordered tossed in sauce! Very unpleasant young man which spoilt what was otherwise a good evening! Also strange that they seemed to be repainting the black boards in the corner of the pub in full view of everyone eating and drinking rather than out the back somewhere?

Good food however fairly poor service, the woman behind the bar, I believe the owner, has quite a poor attitude and i understand people have bad days however ive experienced the subpar service on a previous encounter and put it down to a bad day, I placed an order through the app which the app allowed me to do and after 10 minutes she came over and asked for ID which is fine but it was asked for with a lot of attitude and also told to not order drinks through the app with no explanation as to why? Again done with a poor approach, One of the people on my table of 5 had lost their ID so was asked to be out by 9 which was doable considering we had ordered food by around 8:05/10, three of our orders were out within 10-15 minutes even with a 30 minute wait, however the other two meals took until 8:45 which meant those people (one being without ID) then had to rush eat, of course it hit 9 and they hadn’t finished as we had to wait so much longer for half our order, my friend with no ID was told to hurry up as it’s gone 9 at 5 past, her general attitude to the one with no ID was not great and needed work. Couldn’t fault the food.

The atmosphere on the Old Cross is warm and welcoming. Food for a pub is probably some of the best in the area. I had the three plate starters. All the food that was ordered at the bar arrived at my table hot from the kitchen, It was second to none as far as pub food goes. The staff are friendly and exceptionally polite. What made my experience that little extra special was the option of allowing my dogs to enter the pub with me as they are Dog friendly establishment. I ordered a new bottle of wine ( an organic white from Italy ) which had a great taste of pears which complemented my meal of Beetroot and Aubergine pie. But the best thing was the friendly atmosphere of locals, as well as the Manageress whom service was first rate. After speaking, to who seemed like the head chef, he was over accommodating in finding us a table that would seat us all. He was very helpful, friendly and quickly to rectify the situation considering the pub was already so busy. Our kids food came out in good time, as we wanted them fed first. The chef even made sure we were serve at high priority so that we then didn’t have to wait longer. Our food also came out at a good time and we all really enjoyed it. We enjoyed our experience here due to the staffs helpfulness and service. We have been many times and enjoyed our visit but this one time was outstanding We would like to thank the staff that worked Saturday evening which was two young girls that worked hard and was still smiling on a busy shift! Will defiantly be coming back more often

The atmosphere was okay because we sat outside. We didn't eat just had a drink, the glasses were clean, but the barmaid was a moody mare. Given the fact that there's a lot more places to sit and have a cold drink in Chichester we would probably try somewhere else next time.

Absolute disaster! Came here for a pre theatre meal and there was only one person serving. Then we asked for two burger meals and were told that the chef had forgotten to order the patties! Poor service and lack of customer care!

I reserved a table for four people sat 22nd July.2023 the boys went and got three beers, they ordered my tea. There was no fish and chips ,, a bit short on milk ,,,, that's funny last year they said the same thing. When my pot of tea arrived, around 2inches from the top of hot water, could I have a top up on hot water to the top it was the smallest pot you've ever seen, and a milk jug , half full .So I asked to have a top up on my milk ,the reply I got from the women was oh, you like to double tip do you. I said no just like to taste it, and the cup was dirty. her reply was oh God. The burgers was lovely what we had, but based on the so called service, whatever that was ,and when we left we got stared at, Don't worry we wont be back that's for sure.

Mixed Grill was sold out, Fish and Chips was sold out, so we ended up with Chicken. Not Bad, pubfood. The WE had the palest ever Aperol Spritz. This drink is a 3-2-1 drink with three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part Soda. 50ml Aperol is necessary to create the typical color, but here they did an experiment, that was tasteless and watery.

Disappointing customer service does not come close to my experience in the East street store today. I had just had dental surgery and went in to buy a drink with a straw as I couldn’t move my mouth properly. The trainee barista a young lady was both incredibly rude and passive aggressive. She glared at me when I made my order and proceeded to bang the milk carton on the counter, throw the syrup angrily when I told her that she hadn’t given me the correct order. She angrily asked questions and when I couldn’t speak up due to not being able to open my mouth she repeated herself in a very unpleasant tone. I tried to tell her twice that I had just had dental surgery so that she knew I was not being unhelpful but she didn’t listen having decided that my drooping mouth was due to me being miserable and not because I couldn’t move it. She was passive aggressive in her every communication and made me feel uncomfortable and upset. It made me think if I had a permanent disability or issue with communication that I would never return to the store again. It should not be okay for a customer facing staff member thinks that it is okay to behave in this manner. As she is a trainee I hope that whoever trains her steps up and does a better job before people stop going to the store.

Un hermoso pub, en un lugar hermoso. El personal era amable y acogedor y la comida era increíble, vivo en Londres, pero sin duda intentaré hacer otra visita, me imagino que sería encantador durante el verano

I was picking up my car from a garage in Kirdford. to think my wife are bringing Me across I decided to stop at the half-moon pub to treat her to lunch as we approach the pub the front door appeared locked however there was no times of opening or closing or no menus we walked around the side to find people inside as we arrived towards the rear of the pub we presented with a beautiful garden and I noticed a rear patio door I opened the patio door and a man said what do you want? I said are you open? His reply was the front door is locked. What does that tell you. I found this to be extremely rude considering they are supposed to be serving the publicyoung lady came up to us and told us sorry sir we’re not opening until midday at this time. It was 1146 whilst the pub was closed. The man’s rudeness has made me realise I never need to visit this pub again. I’m not sure if he’s the owner of the worker chef or just someone in there, but I found his rudeness to be completely and utterly unacceptable on this occasion.
