Food reasonable, pleasant staff. Limited choice of beers. Good ciders on draught. Brilliant barmaid, Monica, I think. Excellent manager.

Came for the quiz last Thursday night + had a lovely time. Was served by a young girl, told me her name was Lexi, who was absolutely lovely. Perfect recommendation on a white wine (so good that I had another glass). Will definitely be coming back, not just for the quiz.

I was at old cross and the gentlemen who were serving on the bar one was called Sam who had great customer service and really helpful both guys working made the night better with good chat whilst being served

As someone who loves a roast dinner, i come in most Sunday’s and I am always greeted by Monica and Sophie who wear the loveliest smiles and deliver the most fantastic service. The food is always spot on too. 100% recommend.

Had a great Sunday Lunch last week at the Old Cross in Chichester. We were served by Monica who looked after us and made a fuss of our dogs and brought them a bowl of water. Sunday Roast was reasonably priced and the food was served promptly, hot and really good value for money. Well done the Old Cross.

Good food in a very nice atmosphere. Service can be improved. You have to order at the counter, but staff does not pay attention to who is next.

Really lovely staff that made us feel really welcome. The service was really good considering they were very short staffed. The staff said this was the amount that they have been allowed, only wish they had more staff so that they had more time to give their exceptional service to.

Beautiful pub in the centre of town

Used to go hear and was great, stopped off in there for a quick snack and drink while xmas shopping, told food would be 30 minutes, waited over an hour just for chicken wings, garlic bread and stacked chips, then the chips were wrong so had to wait longer, chicken wings were on the verge of being under cooked so left majority and I love my chicken wings! The boss did tell the staff off, but didnt help us, had to wait long time to get served beer aswell while staff were doing other jobs. I used to love this man-crech! For when the wife is cooking and i hope this was just a bad occasion but is was by far the worst experience in at least 15 visits!!!!!

Initially we popped in for a beer and noticed how popular how other people were enjoying the food. I cancelled a reservation close by and both enjoyed a Duo Sunday Roast. The staff were exceptionally friendly and could see that we were both enjoying the food. When next in Chichester we will both return for sure.

We had to wait 40 mins for our food after being told that they only had one chef on. The food arrived and my scampi was over cooked and my husbands hunters chicken was cold! Hopefully he isn’t I’ll! Very disappointed.

I booked a table for 3 for Sunday lunch. The roast was excellent and at a very reasonable price. The staff where extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely come again.

Classic Greeneking place with all the usual beers and pub grub. Decent little 2 dinners for £15 deal but limited selection there. What makes a good place to come back is the many screens of football and the lovely open fire. It’s nice in the summer too as you can sit out on north street and play some of their board games they have knocking around. I like this place !

There was only one girl behind the bar, it was very busy, she did a great job, baring in mind she was also the waitress! There were three trays of dirty glasses that sat at the end of the bar for the whole time we were there, no staff to put them through the dishwasher…….. Now we come to the food! Absolutely shocking, we waited 40 minutes which wouldn’t have been a problem had what we were given was half decent, it wasn’t, every thing was cold, it had obviously been sat on the pass for while! The blue cheese had a thumb nail of cheese, the burger was overcooked as were the festive burgers, all in all an absolute shocker. Just not good enough!

Didn't eat there so I'm not giving stars on the food. Service was spot on, thank you. Shame about some "locals" I guess, that had to have "their" table when it was clearly vacant when we arrived. Not wanting to cause a scene, we moved tables, even though it was free when we arrived. Other than that, decent place to go, good beer.

This pub advertised Mulled wine at £4.99- when challenged over an overcharge of 50p they simply failed to honour the advertised price- The one thing that prevents me from returning anywhere is poor service!

Terrible food, not going again. Items missing, over cooked meat, undercooked eggs, cold kids meal (corn on cob and garlic bread were fridge cold) dry and Luke warm jacket potatoes and at the end we realised there was actually furry mold on the end of a sausage left from the from the kids meal. I assume the chef was off because there is no way on earth a decent chef would serve such poor quality products.

Nice pub, but in football season, some tables are pre booked . But food and drinks are OK and staff are helpful . And seats outside for summer ☀️.

Popped in on the of chance for a bite to eat. What a Gem, burger and a pint for £10!!! Please don't think that the burger was poor. Nope, it was outstanding! BBQ Burnt ends.....highly recommend. Team were also super helpful and friendly. Will definitley be back.

Enjoyed nachos and 5 sharing plates with a friend and their young child today. Great atmosphere, love that they have games and colouring supplies to keep young and old amused. We also brought some board games to enjoy with lunch and found our meal fully satisfied all three of us. We got great service with a smile, from Monica. The bonus was finding this pub has the largest variety of low/free alcoholic drinks I've ever seen, including 3 ciders. This pub is under the Green King umbrella so you can't order food on the app until 12, but we could've ordered at the bar earlier. Today the Wacky Warehouse 10% code didn't work.

Enjoyed a lovely coffee with friends. Christmas decorations looked beautiful. The pub is a traditional British pub which is really lovely to see. Friendly staff. I would visit again. I revisited this pub again yesterday & enjoyed a lovely lunch with 2 members of my family. The food was really good. Great price. Good choice of drinks. Toilets were very clean. The place was busy but we didn't have to wait long.

What a shame, the place was packed probably theatre goers ,like us. Despite booking a table, there was nothing available and one chap rushed off his feet trying to serve everyone. One female member of staff had no idea and no explanation when I said we had booked. We had no choice but to find an alternative place to eat, where there was a good amount of staff , served quickly and tasty food.

Had a fab chat with the lovely lady on the management team before we left. This place is so friendly service good food good reasonably priced. What more can one want?

This place looks inviting from outside. Lovely setting. Don’t be fooled. Best to keep walking North for a few yards and turn east (right) to the Park Tavern. Ignored by staff at the bar who kept serving their friends, bar wasn’t busy. Too many TV screens and football commentary competing with background music. Has potential to be a really lovely place but the staff, service and atmosphere let it down.

Would never eat here again. Worst food I have ever had in any pub or restaurant. You could build houses with the sausages. Whoever is the chef doesn’t know how steak is cooked. Asked for medium rare and not well over done. The lasagne wasn’t burnt it was cremated and inedible. The chef has murdered the lasagne. I think they should sack their chef and get someone new in before they have no customers left. Most disappointed and dissatisfied place I’ve ever been too. I thought being Greene king pub it would be good place to go but how wrong I was. My recommendation is avoid and go elsewhere unless the chef is sacked!

Having seen another review I agree that they can only be crossing everything that the customer is blind and has no sense of taste or smell. My wife's hunters chicken followed a similar pattern. Our son's tomato pasta was just pasta in what I can only describe as red water. I struggle with how you can get that so badly wrong. He's only 2 and I reckon if he put all the ingredients in a pan on his toy kitchen he'd have a better chance of producing something more edible. My brother had a mixed grill. The steak was well done instead of medium. That was the least of his problems. A pneumatic drill would have struggled to work through them. I can't believe Greene King allow food like that to be served. Surely they spot check their own places. I have never seen anything like it. The odd bad meal I can accept. I vote with my feet usually and just don't go back but this was something else. I just still cannot believe the person cooking the food is checking that off and giving it the thumbs up and thinking that's a job well done. We all left hungrier than when we went in there which is never a good sign when you go out for a meal.

Was told it would be a 45 minute wait on food. After paying and sitting down I was then told the pub was all completely fully booked and I only had 30 mins. Once my food arrived the bar staff kept glaring at me

Food is decent, portions are a good size. Drinks are reasonable. Has outside setting at the front but there is also a small area round the back. Food is served most of the day here they don't take breaks between lunch and dinner. Staff have alwasy been friendly and I know they do a pub quiz on a Thursday night

We had a very nice meal (for three adults) reasonably priced and I had an Aperol Spritz which was perfect and very reasonably priced. It was a bit noisy as they were doing some maintenance work. However we still enjoyed our meal there.

Love this place - so friendly. Ladies don't be afraid to venture in on your own. Ditch the partner, ditch the kids, take yourself off for a wander around town and stop here for a glass or two and some lunch if you fancy a little 'you' time. The staff are superb - very busy at times but they always acknowledge you and you won't wait too long. Also if you're a quiz fanatic, Thursday evenings are the best I've witnessed. The QM is superb - advise to pre-book a table as it's a very popular night. Congrats to the Landlady here she runs a great pub in a lovely location.

Good choice of real ales and good atmosphere

We came in as my partner had been there before when she was at uni and wanted to have some food and do the pub quiz that was being promoted. They first told us there wasn't a table for us to sit and eat because of the quiz, but then there was and we were able to order. We ordered fish and chips on the app only to be told 5 minutes later that they weren't able to make it and we needed to order something else. We then chose Mac and cheese. As we had paid for the extra price for fish and chips, I went to the bar to order drinks and ask about it. The drinks that were showing available on the app were not available and we had to pick something else again. While this was happening the server went and asked if my partner liked Onion Rings and pushed that the extra price would be a portion of onion rings despite me asking at the bar for it to be on a portion of chips. They then charged extra for the chips as well. The food was... Alright? The Mac and cheese felt microwaved (the middle was significantly hotter than the outer edges despite a hot bowl), it didn't taste that much different from a ready meal and was a small portion for the price. Afterwards we stayed for the pub quiz. The guy came over and asked for 2 pounds. We said could we pay by phone or pay at the bar if that was possible. He was quite jokey and said with a big smile "well can you go to the nearest cash point or something?" which we pointed out we didn't have a card. He then just laughed and said "Not today" and walked off, much to our confusion. We then realised he wasn't coming back and we weren't allowed to participate so left. No where on the signs does it say cash only and other pub quizzes usually allow you to pay at the bar or by contactless. As we were leaving we saw another table having a problem with their food as well, as their garlic bread had come out at roughly the same time as their desserts. Overall, just a really weird experience that wasnt very enjoyable in the end and does not make either of us want to come back.

We have just had a meal and drink. After we ordered both we were told they only had enough burgers for one and we were offered an alternative. I then asked about the drinks and was told the wine I ordered was out of stock. Another alternative. I ordered a sweet for my grandson plus another drink and (again) had to ask where my drink was. To be fair the lady behind the bar was having to deal with all the customers. The other lady was clearing tables. They were both polite and helpful. Surely there should have been more staff? Not fair on those who were working. Toilets in a serious need of cleaning and sorting out the flooding. Such a shame that I have to say some negative comments as this pub has atmosphere and a warm welcome. Come on management! Support your staff and toilets!!

Great place to grab a pint - service was great and beer was cold - cannot comment on the food as I have not eaten there as of yet, however only always thing was outside garden sits right on town center so can be noisy and see a lot of people walking past

We stopped by there for a quick dinner and some snacks. The food was great and tasted delicious and the drinks were great too. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the place is nice and cute and right in the center. We enjoyed our stay there, everyone was friendly.

Went into this pub as I had been given a gift card for Greene King. We had the roast and steak pie, mash & veg with drinks. The food was great, the pie was huge and very tasty. The pub was quite busy as it was street market day but no real queues and the staff were very efficient.

First time there. There is no table service. It took quite a while to get the food and it was good. The lady who took our order at the bar was amicable and cheerful. She was smiling and attentive. Unfortunately 6 dishes on the menu were not available so that is not a good thing. I had a sharing platter which seemed to mush some of the things that were mentioned in the menu so again it wasn't a plus for them. All and all the service was okay of course there is room for improvement.

Needing a bite to eat on a late afternoon/early Sunday evening popped into this Green King establishment. I had lived close to a Green King before I moved to Chi, and found the food in The Sandmartin in Chafford to be good quality at a reasonable price - Sadly the food served here was far short. We ordered three steaks, two medium rare, one medium, all three delivered were medium rare, cold grilled tomato, missing garnish and looking very sad. Dispite steak knives being provided, sawing action did not manage to cut through part of my portion for several minutes of work. Left wishing we hadn't bothered and wondered if they had given up trying to compete with the local Wetherspoons we saw. Chichester town centre looks like a dead zone at this time on a Sunday. (edit) Check my other reviews, I do not usually post negative reviews. Responded as requested in 'owners response' but no reaction or reply so far! Early days yet?

First time there. The football was on so very loud but the service was OK a bit slow and food was only warm. The dessert was lovely the best jam rolypoly and custard .friendly staff. Will be back.

Nice pub, especially for the the Euros as they have put alot of effort in decorating the place. Lunch meal was basic but will push you through the day.

Stopped in here for a pint on the way back to our hotel. For a large chain pub (greene King) we were impressed with the ambiance, the friendly staff and the range of beers.

Steak and Ale pie was very nice. Vegetarian flatbread option was very meh. Very quiet being a Monday evening so no atmosphere. Barmaid was lovely and very helpful.

Very pleasant staff and food to match! My sons an I enjoyed our lunch at the old cross with good food ( reasonably priced ), friendly staff and live sports on multiple Tvs. Also outside seating to enjoy the views of the historic city or just people watch and soak up the sun. Great pub 👍🏼

We booked which was easy enough online as we wanted to watch the Champions League. All was going well until our food arrived. Part of the order was wrong and when it was pointed out, the young man firstly with a very rude attitude went to the guy behind the bar to confirm what was order, he then disappeared off to the kitchen. He returned, said quite rudely that we couldn’t keep the dish that was wrong and have the the correct one as well. We hadn’t even asked to keep the incorrect items!! He took them back to the kitchen, but only after arguing as to having sauce on the side as opposed to how it was ordered tossed in sauce! Very unpleasant young man which spoilt what was otherwise a good evening! Also strange that they seemed to be repainting the black boards in the corner of the pub in full view of everyone eating and drinking rather than out the back somewhere?

Good food however fairly poor service, the woman behind the bar, I believe the owner, has quite a poor attitude and i understand people have bad days however ive experienced the subpar service on a previous encounter and put it down to a bad day, I placed an order through the app which the app allowed me to do and after 10 minutes she came over and asked for ID which is fine but it was asked for with a lot of attitude and also told to not order drinks through the app with no explanation as to why? Again done with a poor approach, One of the people on my table of 5 had lost their ID so was asked to be out by 9 which was doable considering we had ordered food by around 8:05/10, three of our orders were out within 10-15 minutes even with a 30 minute wait, however the other two meals took until 8:45 which meant those people (one being without ID) then had to rush eat, of course it hit 9 and they hadn’t finished as we had to wait so much longer for half our order, my friend with no ID was told to hurry up as it’s gone 9 at 5 past, her general attitude to the one with no ID was not great and needed work. Couldn’t fault the food.

The atmosphere on the Old Cross is warm and welcoming. Food for a pub is probably some of the best in the area. I had the three plate starters. All the food that was ordered at the bar arrived at my table hot from the kitchen, It was second to none as far as pub food goes. The staff are friendly and exceptionally polite. What made my experience that little extra special was the option of allowing my dogs to enter the pub with me as they are Dog friendly establishment. I will certainly be returning to sample more of thier excellent menu.

The Old Cross in Chichester is ok. One of the better drinking establishments in the city. Typical 'sports' style pub. Decent food and a nice atmosphere. Have used this pub on most occasions when visiting Chichester. Found the bar staff friendly and helpful on all occasions. Good choices of beers and food.
