Eager to sample the legendary Sunday roasts A friend and I booked a table a week in advance for the following Sunday 27th March. Due to its popularity We'd not been successful in our previous booking attempts so thought it prudish to think ahead. Delighted at our success more so as a family member was visiting Bristol and we could treat them to a good meal. On the Saturday I received a call from the rose explaining that they'd had a gas leak so couldn't honour the bookings however the gone to the efforts of securing an alternative Sunday lunch for their guests bookings at the Eldon house pub. I was at work and had absolute trust in there alternative arrangement and recommendation, after all The Rose is reputed to have possibly one of the best Sunday lunches in Bristol. I of course agreed. I rang the Rose of Denmark to discuss our very disappointing experience of the alternative that we were directed to. I was told he "didn't know why we'd been sent there, maybe, someone had just rang around and found a place that had vacancies "nor was he awair that it had changed management recently. No explanation but a sorry for what is definitely the worst £12 slop I've ever been fobbed of with as a Sunday Roast. To add insult to injury we were even hurried to finish on meal because they had hired the dining area out that afternoon for a private party not that we needed a reason to leave as soon as possible. The food was sparse and subzero standard, the corn fed chicken that I and another of our party requested turned out to be Quorn. All 3 of us were disappointed. Only one finished the food. I've written a full review for the Eldon house on their appropriate review sites. Rose of Denmark.. please at the very least know where you're sending your customers if you can't fulfill a booking. We booked with you you because of your reputation yet we were sent on your recommendation to what was tantamount to a Butlins canteen.

We have used this pub for many years now before rugby and football matches. Dont let the sporting references put you off. This is no rowdy, cheap and cheerful boozer. Staff are always friendly and happy to offer a taste of the beers. The pub is quirky and comfortable and beer and food excellent. The beer is not cheap but excellently kept. We had a couple of pints of neck oil and steak and chips before heading off to watch Bristol and Worcester. Excellent lunch time pint.

I thought I’d take my boyfriend here for his birthday as he’d mentioned a roast for a while. We sat down with our friends and ordered. They didn’t have anything dairy free so they have us some sausages instead. Our partners ordered the meat options. Then the meals came out and half the items were missing. No Yorkshire puddings, no stuffing and we were not made aware of this before. When we asked we were informed they’d ‘not had an order’. Yorkshire puddings are simple enough to whip up? We then asked if we could have a reduction off the bill. They said no and they gave us no reason why. The manager never came over once to apologise or added on any other extras to make up for the bare bones of a roast. I wish I’d taken a photo it was tasteless, dry and very sad to look at. Do not eat here they really don’t care.

We settled for fish n chips by 4 steak by 1 and chicken by 1.portions were good size but fish was greasy and over cooked no fluffy batter like before. Chicken was very dry steak was passable but no flavour at all. We ordered a cheese plate which was good and a meat plate as we like to nibble whilst waiting for food. To make things worse no desserts. The best thing was the Irish waiter who worked hard all evening. Toilets were dirty and need checking regularly We have visited this pub 4 years ago and had fantastic food and toilets were spotless needless to say we will never visit again, Expensive evening out for Ubisoft food

I would give this establishment a zero if I could. Upon arrival we were told there were no tables, we pointed out a bench free which were were told we could have. We went inside and singed then asked where the toilets were. We were asked for no reason by the host to leave because he has ‘had a bad day and doesn’t want the hassle’ we explained we just wanted to order food, have a drink and use the toilet. The host told us to leave and when explained I don’t understand why we were being asked to leave described himself as a ‘c*unt’ and asked us again to leave. Disgusting service from an establishment with such good reviews. Would never visit this absolutely vile establishment again.

I have always wanted to try the food at this pub as I have heard good things in the past. I really wish we hadn’t bothered. Pub is bleak & cold in need of serious refurbishment. Staff were very friendly but that was the only positive. Roast dinners we’re £15. Two of us had lamb which came out as a shank with frozen roast potatoes, leeks in a cheese sauce which were horrible & aubergine. A burnt square of stuffing. My husbands chicken was a small leg of chicken with barely any meat & had the same awful menagerie of veg. £15 for a leg of chicken! Both were served with separate chicken & lamb gravy which was horrible. Needless to say we won’t be returning & can’t believe they have the cheek to charge such a high price for below standard food. One star is purely for the service from the staff.

Not sure what’s gone wrong here, read the positive reviews and have previously heard good things about the roasts. Clearly things have changed under new management. I wouldn’t leave a bad review unless the experience was particularly bad and unfortunately this was. The guy on the bar seemed a bit out of sorts when we arrived, (perhaps a heavy night the night before which hadn’t completely worn off), and became quite overwhelmed and flustered and said he didn’t know anything about the new wines they had when asked. Didn’t seem to care if we were there or not and his customer service overall wasn’t great, but we all have bad days. The food on the other hand is obviously cheap, frozen rubbish so that was the main problem. Tasteless Yorkshire bowl filled with undercooked carrots, frozen peas, watery tasteless gravy and a veggie parcel that tasted of nothingness :( Cauliflower cheese was quite good. I know it’s cheaper than other places at £10 but I could have made better at home so I expect better if I’m going to pay someone else to make my dinner. Toilets were grimy and gross. The wine was quite good, ambience of the pub was ok so if they improved customer service and completely changed the food it might be a nice place to go for a Sunday lunch. I wish them luck.

Unfortunately this pub has gone rapidly downhill since Clara and Ewan left. The current barman is clearly unhappy in his job and it was a chore for him to serve us. The bar was busy due to football and there was only one person serving. The barman was very miserable and obviously didn't want to be there. We asked if we could pay by card and he raised his eyebrows and said "well if you have to but I'd rather you didn't", we also asked for a glass of tap water which he ignored. Luckily there are apparently going to be new owners in the new year so hopefully it will be restored to its original standards.

The Rose of Denmark isn’t in a location where we’re just passing, so whenever I DO pass it over the last couple of years I’ve been meaning to go in as the roast dinners are legendary. In February we got our act together and booked a table for ourselves and our friends for Sunday lunch. It was epic. The food is huge and of a brilliant standard- I had lamb, the guys and the children had beef and my friend is a veggie, so she had a butternut squash wellington. The gravy tasted home made and there’s a good selection of beers. The kids got to choose any roast in a kids portion and the service was excellent. Must remember to book again soon.

The only downside which is a downside. Is both plates of food came out luke warm. I like my food to be hot. Or at least the gravy to be hot. But the only things that were hot were the middle of the pots...however...it was still very tasty. For a decent price of 12quid...if it had been hotter then 5 stars would have been met.

I was recommended this pub as the prior owners had rave reviews. Even though the staff were really friendly I’m afraid to say it was a real disappointment and waste of money. The food doesn’t seem fresh at all, the chicken looked like it had been boiled. No roasted veg only really over cooked boiled veg. The gravy I assume was potentially bistro , and to top it off my yourshire pudding was still partly frozen. The food didn’t seem to have any flavour. I have written this review in hopes that it will save you a trip to a disappointing meal.

West Cornwall Pasty is a British chain of fast food restaurants in the UK specializing in the production and sale of Cornish pasties, perfect for a quick snack. Traditional, hand-kneaded shortcrust pastry is filled with classic meat and potato filling. There are also more modern versions of patties available, with non-standard fillings, meatless or vegan. Taste varies. They come hot, fresh and delicious. Sometimes they are barely warm, hard and tasteless. Very convenient location near Victoria Station.
