After a long 2hour dog walk, 4 hoomans & 5 bassets , we visited here for a fantastic Sunday lunch, food was absolutely delicious, I had the beef and it was so tasty & tender, others in my group had the pork and they found it delicious too! Cauliflower cheese was included with the beef and it was so tasty, highly recommend Will definitely be returning 😃❤️

Atmospheric half-timbered building with a wonderful open fireplace. Extremely prompt and efficient service from Henry at front of house. Small menu with the accent on fresh, local produce. Less elaborate than the much-hyped King's Arms next door (see my review of their restaurant), but far better value for money. Deserves to be better known. Thanks to the chef and bar staff.

Had Sunday lunch here. The food was delicious and plentiful. Let down by the sparse dining area which was also freezing cold and draughty. The fire hadn't been lit early enough (usually 8a.m. we were told) supplementary heaters were totally inadequate for the size of the room. When possible we moved to a table next to the log fire, which was better but other diners arriving later than us had no choice but to keep their coats on. Sadly on leaving through the bar area, noticed it was much warmer and were disappointed not to have been offered alternative table in there. It would have made for a much nicer experience all round.

The food, we had breakfasts and an evening meal which both where Well cooked, high quality, well presented, delicious meals. The room we stayed in was huge, clean and well equipped. It can be tricky to find good quality dog freindly placed to stay so we would highly recommend the Rose & Crown to anybody. The location is also very good for seeing Kent. We got the bus from just outside to south coast and or Canterbury to allow for day drinking 😀

The new managers are really pulling out all the stops whole getting this neglected pub a face lift. Service is exemplary. Wine delicious. And their attention to detail with the menu, that includes a healthy approach to those of us who are vegan, is second to none in this village; even outstripping the newly revamped gastro pub, the King's Arms. If you want smiling service that is fast with a daily prepped and cooked meal...this is the place to head to.

We were passing through en route tunnel to France. New owners made us very welcome. Food was good value, tasty and interesting. Weave some feed back regarding the ambience of the restaurant which was taken appreciatively. I hope they do think about it as the food is really worth the visit but the atmosphere a bit like school dinner room. Needs a feminine touch I think and bit of thought on lighting. We would definitely recommend it for the food, the welcome and the service. They are very new there and I wish them well.

We stopped in for lunch on the odd chance and will definitely return again soon. The pub is under new management and it is an unexpected gem offering great food with a varied menu that changes every week. The ingredients are top quality and used in an inventive way, ensuring there is something for every taste. I I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of vegetation dishes, which looked very tempting even for meat eaters. My cauliflower soup was stunning and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his crayfish starter. After much cogitation we both had burgers and were not disappointed. The bun was lovely and it made a nice change that it was not brioche. The burger itself was substantial and very tasty, with a nice herby aftertaste. This was finished off with a lovely salad dressing and good chunky chips that were some of the best I've tasted in a while. Unfortunately we had to dash but we would like to return to sample a pudding which I've no doubt will be as generous and tasty as the other courses. Our experience was helped by the genuine warm welcome we received from the staff and atmosphere of the bar which was relaxed and charming despite being quite quiet as it was slightly after lunch; the pub is open for for food most of the day which is a huge bonus. This is definitely a place where you can relax and while the away the time. As this wasn't enough this is all set in one of the most historically authentic and atmospheric places I've been lucky enough to visit. There are plenty of old beams, bare bricks which are offset by a huge fireplace, which I'm sure is lovely in winter. We would both recommend this lovely place not only for the food but for the people and atmosphere as well.

We had an awful meal and got charged on our bill for items we hadn't ordered. I sent an email to the pub explaining all the problems and expected a reply. When I didn't receive a reply I went to the pub and asked to see the owner/manager he was in the garden but wouldn't face me to discuss problems. That is why I am writing this review. The steak was very well done when we asked for it to be rare. The food was very salty. I asked for a fizzy water and was told they didn't have water but soda water was added to my red wine. I had to ask for a refund which was reluctantly given on the items we hadn't had. Very disappointed.

Awful experience and would not recommend to anyone - this used to be a nice pub but after the treatment we experienced the other night, we will not return. My partner and I (local to Elham) came for a meal on Saturday night and the restaurant was fairly busy, but there was only one person serving, as well as occassionally working on the bar. We were very understanding of this when it took a long time to get our food, even though there was no real acknowledgement of how understaffed they clearly were. After finishing our main we waited patiently to have our empty plates removed and order our desserts - in this time another table received their food, had it taken away and had their bill brought over and settled. After our patience wore out, we were trying to catch the employee’s attention and it felt like we were being deliberately ignored - we ended up being the last table left in the restaurant and were still waiting to get our dessert menus! I had to go over to the bar to find help and to place our dessert orders, at which point I was bluntly told that the kitchen had closed. This seemed like a sudden change when all night we had been very polite and friendly to eachother, and we were simply trying to be understanding that the staff were busy and would get to us. When I questioned why we were not informed of this, as we were ready to order long ago and she could see we were waiting, there was no real response. We were forced to come up to the bar and pay, where again there was no communication or actual apology. Not only is it poor service and tainted a rare night out for us, it makes no business sense either why we were essentially refused business with no warning. We will not be coming back and would like to warn anyone else who may be treated in the same way. Additional negatives we found were the rowdy bar - which not only affected the atmosphere of the dining experience, but also felt intimidating and meant we didn’t complain to the extent we wanted to at the time - and the fact that later adding up the bill we realised that we were overcharged. If this was a service charge added without even showing us a receipt, when the whole issue was that we had no service, it would really round off this ridiculous experience!!!

We ordered and when our first course was ready shown to a most delightful dining room . Not too many people though . We ordered the crispy prawn cocktail which should as menu been on iceberg lettuce and with bread . neither were in evidence . We then waited a further forty five minutes for our main meal . My lamb was good but the vegetable choice for the time of year was poor . My wifes chicken meal looked dredfull with sweet potato fres cheese bacon and COLD SLAW . Four of us went for dinner on a Thursday evening, restaurant not at all busy, only one other couple. Starters were fine but main courses a different story. The chicken meals were tasteless although well presented but the fish and chips were a disaster! The batter on the fish was the colour of aged teak, and so greasy. Eventually the waitresss asked if all was ok and when shown the batter offered to change the fish but the other diners had almost finished so offer was declined, she did take away the plate containing the dark brown greasy batter however. Most of that meal was left on the plate. The other couple in the restaurant also had the dark brown greasy batter on their fish, I noticed that it all went back to the kitchen. When paying the bill the waitress refuse to deduct the price of the fish and chips saying that some of the fish had been eaten! Unbelievable. She actually argued with the diner in the bar. Golden rule of customer service; NEVER argue with a customer! Needless to say we won’t be going back.

We had a meal here and unfortunately was very disappointed. The menu choice was very limited and with very basic meals, nothing really for a special occasion. (Burger and chips, sausage and mash, fish and chips, liver and bacon, vegetarian flan or expensive 8oz steak). We opted for fish and chips, which after a long wait came with burnt batter, very small portion, and cost £12. I have had much better golden pieces of good sized fish and chips in beautiful surroundings for less. The waitress did ask if everything was OK, but on in passing and didn't wait for our reply. Sorry this is not a positive review, but I hope it gets better as the ownership has only recently changed. Oh and the backgroundmusic kept missing a beat, all easy things to remedy.

Had a lovely man-sized Sunday roast with doggy bag provided for smaller appetites. Unfortunately licencee was leaving following week and chef moving to Etchinghill golf club so cannot guarantee future.

The room was a very good size but the decor could do with an update (also bubbly floor in bathroom).

Popped in for drink on the way back from lunch in Whitstable as heard it was under new management . Lovely welcome at bar with good selection of lagers and most importantly red wine! As we had eaten already didn't dine but looked at menu which was a nice selection . As new proprietors the menu is apparently being revised all the time with local and fresh seasonal ingredients which is pleasing. Will definitely eat next time and possibly book a room to sample the wine selection !

Have stayed here several times since the mid 1990's and always enjoyed the cosy bar and friendly atmosphere. The rooms in the barn are spacious and attractively furnished in country style with attention paid to details.Personal service at breakfast and excellent value. We understand a new manager is taking over in April so hope this all continues.

I visited Elham last evening with friends and we went to the Rose and Crown for a meal. What a disappointment!!We sat down and waited and waited for service. The staff all two of them were more intent on their conversation than serving us so we took our departure and went to another local pub where we were treated very well.

The Rose & Crown is a traditional inn or pub and sits in the idyllic village of Elham, at the heart of Elham valley within the Kent Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Rose & Crown is also the first place in England to introduce bar billiards.

Ambiance cosy autour d'une grande cheminée ouverte. Idéal le soir pour boire quelques pintes de bières locales. Bonne cuisine, plutôt sophistiquée pour un pub. Ambiance sympa d'habitués et de clients de l'hôtel.

I stayed for one night and found the staff friendly and helpful, my room was warm, clean and comfortable and had everything you could wish for. Dinner in the evening was copious and tasty and breakfast (included) was unbeatable with local juices, yoghurts and the choices and variety could not be faulted. Highly recommended at a reasonable price.

The pub is welcoming and has a good cosy ambience. However the food is plentiful but very standard pub grub level. I would not say I would never go again but I wouldn't make an effort. If you have a good appetite it is reasonable value. We don't and would have preferred much less.

Visited without a booking they were full, but the weather was good and we sat in the garden. Fabulous Sunday Lunch best we have had in a long time, lovely variety of vegetables and plenty to eat would highly recommend a visit. Staff were really nice and service was very quick even though we had been told there would be a wait.

Had a meal here last week, steak and ale pie.To be fair the pie had plenty of content but lacked flavour, also the mixed veg was way overcooked and waterlogged. My companions were generally unimpressed with what they had that evening, maybe the kitchen had an offday i dont know, but have had better. That aside the beer was fine and the pub itself was cosy and welcoming.

Four of us ate at the Rose and Crown this evening. Two roast lamb with all the trimmings, one ham, egg and chips - lovely. The lamb arrived as promised and the vegetable selection was absolutely super: cabbage, creamed leeks, carrots, swede, mange tout and cauliflower in a cheese sauce. The thickness and flavour of the ham had to be seen and tasted to be believed and the eggs and chips were perfect. So, what happened to the prawn, crayfish and salmon timbale salad? A prawn salad arrived. No crayfish, no salmon... We queried this and in no time at all, there was a lovely bowl of crayfish and salmon and an apology. A new chef apparently, not quite got to grips with the whole menu yet. Never mind. The food was really good. Next - the puddings: one chocolate brownie, one banoffee mess and one light cheeseboard. All excellent and a very good selection of biscuits, cheese, chutneys and grapes. All in all a lovely meal. It's not the first time we've visited the Rose and Crown and we will definitely be back again.

Atmosphere and staff were great and was a lovely environment. Although, it's now the second time I've eaten there and the second time I was disappointed with the food. It may be my personal taste, but I just find the food to just be "OK". For an establishment with such a nice vibe - and price - I expected the food to be better. Perhaps it's just too fancy/hipster for my taste. Having said all that, I would certainly go back for a coffee or beer, just not food.

The ambience was good plus service excellent however the ox cheek was slightly off .Fresh cuts I would recommend if they are marinating in wine over knight .My partner enjoyed the bangers and mash .I did enjoy the cabbage and the gravy though and food presentation went well with the red wine .It’s a sad shame that they no longer serve ravioli .This is one of the places that had that good ravioli .

Our visit to Port Lympne today was excellent, until a deeply disappointing experience at the gift shop, which left us feeling frustrated and disrespected. Our group consisted of 10 disabled adults and 4 carers, all with concession tickets, and we tried to visit the shop around 4pm. When we arrived, the doors to the shop were abruptly closed in our faces by a staff member, who explained that it was “too dark” for us to enter so the shop was closing after three separate doors were closed on our faces. However, we noticed that one member of our group was allowed entry through a side door with the instruction to “be quick.” Confused, the rest of the group attempted to follow and were met with rude shouts that the shop was closed. A carer asked why only one person from our group was allowed in, while the rest were turned away. The staff member’s response was dismissive and rude, claiming that everyone could enter but needed to hurry. This response completely disregarded the fact that our group consists of adults with disabilities who require additional time and support—rushing them was simply not feasible. The overall tone was unhelpful and insensitive, leading us to decide to leave the shop entirely. We understand that there may be operational challenges, but treating disabled visitors with respect and understanding is essential, especially when they are paying customers. This experience was not only unpleasant but also alienating. We hope Port Lympne will consider how to better accommodate all visitors, particularly those who need extra time and support, in a more respectful and accessible manner in the future.
