Tonight we were looking forward to a fantastic meal at Rocksalt. However I got the booking date wrong and turned up a week early. The maitre d was fantastic and found us a table at their Sister resturant Little Rock. The walk from Rocksalt to Little Rock was amazing. We walk along the old train line, across the harbour and into the train station. All have been regenerated to a high standard. The lighting and planting set the mood. The menu in Little Rock was not vast and dont let that phase you. For what they did have on the menu was a taste sensation. Local produce cooked and served to perfection. Thank you Rocksalt and Little Rock for a lovely evening, with attentive staff and delicious delights. We will definitely be back.

Our favourite restaurant in Folkestone! We've always had great fish dishes there, the staff are welcoming and courteous, and the view from the full-height windows is mesmerising - no matter whether high tide or low, sun, rain or cloud.

I had been wanting to go for awhile and it didn’t disappoint. I can’t eat wheat or dairy so it can’t be awkward in some restaurants, not here. The staff were knowledgable about allergies and intolerances and the difference between the two, they know their dishes so ordering was easy. I was surprised how much of the menus was available to me, had too much choice! i loved that they have lots of alternatives for the dish , so vegan cream to finish the soup and the stew. The scallops had a pea purée as an alternative to the original sauce, but I didn’t have to make sacrifices. If in doubt ask don’t make assumptions about what’s available to you or you might miss out. My partner had the fish soup for starter and the never ending fish pie, he loved both . I felt the price was good for the quality of food and the service

We stopped by for some fish and chips. Top tip, it’s only available in the bar and not the restaurant downstairs. Overall our experience was positive with great food and location with friendly staff. It wasn’t 100% clear where the bathrooms were but they’ve named them the poop deck if you need them. In the bathrooms it was uncomfortably warm but in the bar it was a pleasant temperature. Fish was excellent and I particularly enjoyed the peas. Best fish and chips in Folkestone.

Can’t believe in 2024 discrimination and racism still happens till I came to this restaurant, the manager was so so rude and disrespectful and outrightly told us to leave the establishment, it was disheartening and really hurtful generally, ruined a birthday , a day meant to be special was completely ruined and left the celebrant in tears, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone pls don’t bother coming here, just can’t believe such a thing is still happening, really traumatizing.

The location was so nice and beautiful which was one of the main reason I went there with my friends but the service was poor. If there is any other way I can describe the service then I will, the manager is a racist. One of the attendant gave us the wrong table and the manager boldly came to us and asked us to get out of the restaurant. He called us a liar and was so rude to us. This behaviour is unacceptable. Worst experience ever.

Beautiful place to eat with very high quality food. The only downside is (if you’re sitting outside close to the boat docking area) that you always get the horrible smell of the old fishing boats coming to Dock. Maybe the restaurant should close the windows when this is happening as the smell is very intense and sickly. Prices are also very high, higher than most good London restaurants, so not great value for money, but the location/setting and food quality make it a must visit

Lovely venue and pleasant staff. However, we chose Sunday lunch which was beef which was delicious but the Yorkshire puddings were very rubbery and not homemade filled with an unnecessary pretentious bunch of watercress...the roast potatoes were overcooked and the gravy/jus was very watery.. The dessert was delicious. Overall...not bad.

View picturesque and the seafood was so good, the Folkestone crab with fennel & dill salad as starter and Sea Bream (for 2 people) as main course. Service wasn't great on the day, ordered a pint before the main course but arrived 20 minutes later and after we'd finished the main course.

Great views. Buzzy atmosphere, Very friendly service. Simple well cooked flavourful food. Service just lacks a bit of awareness. For instance check that the customer realizes that the started already comes with bread if the order bread, or if the meal is plated with samphire advise that might want to order a different vegetable.

Four of us dined in the restaurant on a Saturday night. We’d booked a table for 8pm, but unfortunately had to wait 20 minutes for it to become available. Sadly by then it was too dark to see the view. I chose Scallops with Squid Ink to start, which were delicious. Others chose Folkestone Crab Salad and Fish Soup. To follow I enjoyed Lemon Sole with Sauce Vierge whilst the others all had Folkestone Cod. The food was excellent but expensive. Service was ok.

2nd time visiting and it was truly disappointing. Service was shocking compromised of kids running round like headless chickens with no direction. Zero enthusiasm, no answers to any questions, disorganized! Table still left dirty after previous customers! The food was basic and extortionate. Fish was dry. 100£ a head with kids and 1 bottle of wine- let’s remember we are in Folkestone and not London! Service charge of 70£. Reluctantly paid it but never again! A basic meal with 1 bottle of wine for £700 🤣 Absolutely robbing your customers. Stay clear- far better options.

We had booked a table here a few weeks ago when we visited Folkestone for a few days, and we were really looking forward to it, as we had heard it was great! Well....we were highly disappointed, we waited over 40 minutes for our starters, 45 minutes for our main!!! Absolutely ridiculous. 1 couple actually walked out they had been waiting so long! 2ndly the samphire was not edible it was SO SO salty you just couldn't eat it, but yet the garnish of Samphire over my fish was fine. 3rdly we asked for 2 lots of mash creamed and truffled, and only received the creamed mash!!! after speaking with our server a lady (who apparently was the supervisor) which is even worse, she just casually said she didn't realise we had asked for both!!! Clearly not paying attention! She also served us a different wine than the one we ordered!!! yet another mistake!! and my friend who had ordered fish too, was not given the sauce to go with it, it was only when she realised minutes after and after speaking with the waitress we were given the sauce that complemented the fish! Clearly unacceptable, and not attentive or overly friendly at all!! considering it's meant to be a fine dining restaurant and is meant to be of a high standard, it clearly does not live up to that in reality!! Also I found the fish I had Dover sole overpriced and small considering! Highly highly disappointed and won't be returning back!! The ONLY plus point was a beautiful view and setting looking over the harbour.

We had a meal here recently for our anniversary. The restaurant is modern ,clean and the staff are very welcoming. It is predominantly a seafood restaurant. The location and the ambiance was great but the overall experience was mediocre and not worth the price and we were let down by the service which seems to be a common theme reading through the reviews. We ordered the tomahawk steak and we were told upfront about a 45 mins wait which we were fine with. It arrived over 1 h later and cold and the sides were missing so we had to wait another 7 mins for the cabbage to be served. This is really poor especially when you charge £95 for this experience, and wait 1h for it, then you expect this to be perfection and not 3/5 at best. Given we wanted It medium rare there was no option to send It back to be reheated either! And it's a shame as it tasted really good. It was clear the steak was just sitting and waiting to be served in a restaurant that was operating at 50% capacity. The service really was not attentive and it was then obvious that our waiter just could not wait to get rid of us because his mannerism changed halfway through when we were still there 2 h later (as if the delay was our fault) enjoying a second bottle of wine instead of fancy desserts and we were basically rushed out. When the bill was served, he stood over us so that it is paid immediately which I found strange in a fancy restaurant. If Rocksalt wants to market itself as luxury restaurant, then you should really make major improvements to service and offering because at moment you are coasting on past glory. Looking at other reviews, you are likely to lose customers as the issues are repeating itself so it's surprising they are not dealt with effectively. We have just purchased a property in Folkestone but unlikely we will be returning even despite the amazing sunset and view from the table.

First off the service was great the staff were very pleasant and in no way am I blaming them… but £26.50 for two strips of lamb that was cold is ridiculous! As well as £38 for “steak” that was bland, tiny and unseasoned, funny for a restaurant with the name Rocksalt, the restaurant it self was nice but for the price you are paying the food quality is appalling, I understand that some portions are small but at least make them taste good. Such a shame. In fairness they did give me 2 vouchers with £20 off for when I return, but I don’t think I’ll be needing them….

Rocksalt Restaurant offers a solid culinary experience that unfortunately falls short due to inconsistent service. The food is undoubtedly excellent, showcasing a delightful range of flavours and impeccable presentation. Each dish is a testament to the chef’s skill and creativity, making it clear that the kitchen operates at a high standard. However, the service at Rocksalt needs improvement. During our visit, we asked for bread three times, but it never arrived. Additionally, we were repeatedly asked if we wanted a drink by different staff members, indicating a lack of coordination and a coherent service plan. Despite the outstanding food, the disorganised service means Rocksalt just missed the mark. Addressing these service issues could elevate the restaurant to match its culinary excellence.

I’ve read some of the critical reviews for this restaurant and cannot agree with any of them. The location, the menu and the food were amazing. We had the scallops for starters and the seafood platter with lobster for mains, and the pea risotto. The sauces for the scallops and seafood platter were totally gorgeous. Beautiful location, nice drinks and good music. However, the overall experience was let down by the bar tender with a beard who was incredibly arrogant and cocky working at the inside bar. He was incredibly patronising when we ask any simple questions about drinks. When the outside bar didn’t have what we asked for, they asked us to go to the inside bar and we were greeted with rudeness, as if it was our fault. Speaking to other people enjoying the day, they had also mentioned how unpleasant their experience was as well with him specifically. We were the second party in the door, we had called ahead to request a window seat and explained we had a pram as this was a special occasion and had booked over a month in advance. When I had spoken to someone in the week they said they would try their best which i completely understand nothing is guaranteed, however on the day we were told that the table we were allocated with a view of the sea we wouldn’t be allowed to sit at because of the pram. They then changed our table to one right in the corner near a fire exit. To add insult to injury another party with a pram and baby sat at a window seat with no issues. We have also previously taken our newborn with us and been allowed to sit at the type of table we were initially allocated with the same pushchair so I am perplexed as to what the issue was this time. It really put a dampener on the start of our evening especially as this was done when the entire restaurant was empty. The food was nice but nothing special and something we could have had at home; and because we were tucked away in Timbuktu we had to wait quite a while to get someone’s attention when we needed something. It’s a shame because the last time we went to rocksalt the food was good and the service was prompt which is why I chose it for such a special occasion, I think the table fiasco really let the evening down. It’s a shame because we are reconsidering whether we eat there again.

Love Rocksalt, it remains my favourite restaurant and the quality is just as good as it always has been. However, the bar upstairs is now a real disappointment. It used to be a great place for pre meal drinks but on last 3 occasions service has been so slow, twice over a 20 minute wait, why can't we order at he bar! Furthermore the tables are not cleaned and dirty. Given the high standards of the restaurant, why is the bar so poor by comparison? Anyway, no more chances, will use the bar in future.

Lovely restaurant with a perfect location. The service was attentive despite being very busy. Just one little gripe, we were visiting Folkestone and my friend booked a table at 8.30pm mentioning about a set menu offer. Upon arrival, we were only handed the a la carte menus. Since I did not make the booking, I just assumed that perhaps the offer wasn't on anymore. However upon checking the website afterwards, it is very much still available. I feel it was a bit cheeky of them to not bring all the menus as it would have been significantly cheaper since we pretty much ordered the same food. Also their online menus prices don't match up with their restaurant menus.

We had a 9pm reservation, and unfortunately they’d run out of mussels and oysters. We had a cocktail upstairs whilst awaiting our table as it wasn’t quite ready. Pleasant atmosphere and lovely views. We ordered drinks to our table and had to remind them as they very come, twice…. The starter of crab was very bland and to be honest over watery, The main was sole which my husband thought was ok but very small, his new potatoes were hard and the spring vegetables favourless My main was the corn fed steak which was and I don’t say it likely the worst I have ever eaten, hard the cut and even hard to chew. During our meal we did get asked by any editing staff for further drinks or if meal was ok. Once finished we just wanted to leave so asked for the bill only to have found an extra £17 added for drinks which we hadn’t ordered, Service charge of over £20 for no decent service received …, We paid it and left …. I would not recommend or go back myself . Totally gutted as had expectations of this restaurant.

We ate as a party of 6 for a birthday meal. Service was great, speedy without being intrusive, and the food was delicious for everyone. The restaurant, and the bar above, were very busy. The fish soup for starters was the second best fish soup I've ever had, and by far the best in this country. We were lucky that the 'catch of the day' included turbot as a main course to share between two, and it was perfect. It's not a cheap evening out - around £100 a head including wine and coffees - but as an occasional treat it was a memorable night out.

Comfortable restaurant with good spacing between tables! Excellent food- we had the most exquisite sea bream, cooked to perfection with an amazing sauce. Slight haphazardness and delays with drinks order and side order (delay on the salad so they didn't charge us for this thank you!) but otherwise efficient and friendly staff - highly recommended!

Without a doubt the best restaurant in Folkestone. We have eaten there many times (restaurant and bar) and always had an excellent meal. The staff are really welcoming and knowledgeable, and the setting is perfect, especially on a warm and sunny day - but fabulous even in December, looking over the harbour.

Small portion of linefish, hugely over-priced at £38. The portion was clearly halved, and I overheard from the waitress that the kitchen was running out of stock which explained it. The cherry on top was a kids ice cream sold as 3 scoops, but came as one small scoop...when pointed out to the waiter, he saw it as a favour and brought us one "extra" scoop. This summed up the attitude of the establishment: overly reliant on the excellent location, without any genuine interest in the experience of the customer. Unfortunately I left hugely disappointed.

Been here a couple of years ago and was underwhelmed, but decided to give it another go. The venue is gorgeous - fantastic building with wonderful view across Folkestone harbour. Service was a bit slow but good when it came - 30 minute gap between starter clear and main arrival is not great. Fresh seafood starters (oysters, crab) very high quality, fish soup lacked depth. Mains OK but not great - pan fried fish over-seasoned and then dressed with salty butter - clearly nobody in the kitchen tasting what gets sent out. Meat - nicely cooked - but sauces tasted bulk prep. The focus is clearly on feeding a lot of people smoothly at a high mark-up. There is pretty much nothing else at this high-end style in Folkestone, but this is not fine-dining despite the fine charging.

We travelled from London especially to visit this restaurant for my birthday. I find the front entrance a-bit unwelcoming, however the picture frames windows towards the kitchen are such a great idea! The restaurant has incredible view and it’s quite spacious but no background music is played , so it’s lots of canteen like noises. The food was cooked very well and the menu had good variety but not very adventurous. One think that really let the experience down was the service. We waited a lot for the order to be taken, then a significant time for the mains to arrive and finally took 10 minutes to grab someone’s attention so I can get a knife for my main as all cutlery were cleared with starters. A little wait for the dessert too but the team very kindly served happy birthday plate too. We will be back one day as we love Folkestone, however service defiantly need to be improved to match the food quality.
