Unbelievably Exquisite food in a beautiful setting. Had the cured bass followed by the gills head bream and we truly divine. Prices are what you'd expect, but it's a perfect place for a very special occasion

Rocksalt was recommended to us so we thought we’d have a night away in Folkestone and try it. Wish we hadn’t bothered. We had a 9pm reservation, and unfortunately they’d run out of mussels and oysters. We had a cocktail upstairs whilst awaiting our table as it wasn’t quite ready. Pleasant atmosphere and lovely views. We ordered drinks to our table and had to remind them as they very come, twice…. The starter of crab was very bland and to be honest over watery, The main was sole which my husband thought was ok but very small, his new potatoes were hard and the spring vegetables favourless My main was the corn fed steak which was and I don’t say it likely the worst I have ever eaten, hard the cut and even hard to chew. During our meal we did get asked by any editing staff for further drinks or if meal was ok. Once finished we just wanted to leave so asked for the bill only to have found an extra £17 added for drinks which we hadn’t ordered, Service charge of over £20 for no decent service received …, We paid it and left …. I would not recommend or go back myself . Totally gutted as had expectations of this restaurant.

We ate as a party of 6 for a birthday meal. Service was great, speedy without being intrusive, and the food was delicious for everyone. The restaurant, and the bar above, were very busy. The fish soup for starters was the second best fish soup I've ever had, and by far the best in this country. We were lucky that the 'catch of the day' included turbot as a main course to share between two, and it was perfect. It's not a cheap evening out - around £100 a head including wine and coffees - but as an occasional treat it was a memorable night out.

Without a doubt the best restaurant in Folkestone. We have eaten there many times (restaurant and bar) and always had an excellent meal. The staff are really welcoming and knowledgeable, and the setting is perfect, especially on a warm and sunny day - but fabulous even in December, looking over the harbour.

Small portion of linefish, hugely over-priced at £38. The portion was clearly halved, and I overheard from the waitress that the kitchen was running out of stock which explained it. The cherry on top was a kids ice cream sold as 3 scoops, but came as one small scoop...when pointed out to the waiter, he saw it as a favour and brought us one "extra" scoop. This summed up the attitude of the establishment: overly reliant on the excellent location, without any genuine interest in the experience of the customer. Unfortunately I left hugely disappointed.

Been here a couple of years ago and was underwhelmed, but decided to give it another go. The venue is gorgeous - fantastic building with wonderful view across Folkestone harbour. Service was a bit slow but good when it came - 30 minute gap between starter clear and main arrival is not great. Fresh seafood starters (oysters, crab) very high quality, fish soup lacked depth. Mains OK but not great - pan fried fish over-seasoned and then dressed with salty butter - clearly nobody in the kitchen tasting what gets sent out. Meat - nicely cooked - but sauces tasted bulk prep. The focus is clearly on feeding a lot of people smoothly at a high mark-up. There is pretty much nothing else at this high-end style in Folkestone, but this is not fine-dining despite the fine charging.

We travelled from London especially to visit this restaurant for my birthday. I find the front entrance a-bit unwelcoming, however the picture frames windows towards the kitchen are such a great idea! The restaurant has incredible view and it’s quite spacious but no background music is played , so it’s lots of canteen like noises. The food was cooked very well and the menu had good variety but not very adventurous. One think that really let the experience down was the service. We waited a lot for the order to be taken, then a significant time for the mains to arrive and finally took 10 minutes to grab someone’s attention so I can get a knife for my main as all cutlery were cleared with starters. A little wait for the dessert too but the team very kindly served happy birthday plate too. We will be back one day as we love Folkestone, however service defiantly need to be improved to match the food quality.

Following a fabulous stay in the associated rooms, and a fantastic dinner last year, we booked to repeat the ***** experience. They had to cancel our room booking due to emergency refurbishments. With some research, we found another place to stay, and arrived for our dinner booking. It would have been exceptionally nice if the restaurant was joined-up enough to have acknowledged us as the couple bounced out of their accomodation. Generally, service was 'relaxed', which you can read as either unhurried, or slow. It's hard to judge, as a customer, but waiting staff didn't seem over-burdoned. But a request for 2 glases of wine took 20 minutes to arrive A cold desert, in a near-empty dining room, took 30 minutes to arrive. On to the positives... My partner had the set-menu and both her starter and fish pie were exceptionally good. My crab starter was OK, but basically shredded white-crab meat with toast. I'm probably unusual in preferring some brown crab meat, as I see that's where the flavour lies. My main of cod was perfectly cooked and truely delicious. My highlight of the night. We were dissapointed because our previous visit had been so perfect. I feel they have let standards slip, which is sad. I do understand that running costs have sky-rocketed, but please don't fall into a cycle of costs up, so service down, so fewer come, so...

This restaurant is in a great location overlooking Folkestone Harbour. We sat outside on the very welcoming terrace. We decided on the set menu but where a bit disappointed. The choice of starters were varied, but the mains had Beer Battered Cod (ie the great British classic Fish and Chips) But no chips, just peas. Slightly odd but of course an extra charge of £5 for chips! The other two mains were a Cauliflower veggie dish or Duck fillets, But oops a surcharge of £7 for the Duck!! So in effect, if you did not want vegetarian, there was only one choice included in the set menu price for a main. I had a Trout mousse/pate to start which was delicious and my wife had Beetroot and Goats cheese salad. Lots of lovely Beetroot but the tiniest amount of a few shavings of Goats cheese, once again a disappointment. Other than that, excellent service and the food we did have was very tasty. I do realise that this is a very trendy and popular restaurant and as such I suppose they think they can charge and serve what they want. But I think, if they are going to have a set menu, it should perhaps offer a bit more. There were only a few tables occupied so perhaps, others might think the same.

We waited for an hour to have our main dishes served and watched other tables, who arrived later, finish their meals and leave before we were served. The service for starters was fine however once finished we had to wait an hour before our main course was served. We asked the staff if anything was wrong only to be told that they only cook fresh dishes, surprised we wondered what alternative method could be used to cook 2 fish dishes? It was made more annoying when at least 3 other tables who arrived later than us were served and left before we had our mains. The staff were rude and surly and clearly thought more of themselves than the customer. The food was ok at best, rather a disappointment for my wife’s birthday. The staff were very tentative and we felt valued. The starter was amazing but unfortunately it took around 45 minutes after the starter for the mains to arrive, my partner had the monkfish which again, was beautiful and I opted for the steak, medium rare. Sadly, the steak was well done and quite tough and unfortunately I was unable to eat it. The staff offered to get a new steak on but with how long it had taken previously I didn’t want to wait and for my Partner to have to eat alone, so I left it. The steak was removed from the bill which I appreciated but I was a bit saddened by the meal as I felt it took away from what was supposed to be a lovely birthday meal for my Partner and only she ended up eating.

We had a Valentine weekend in Hythe and Folkestone with my partner and decided to have romantic lunch at Rocksalt as it has an amazing views and intriguing reputation. The service was absolutely wonderful, the views were fabulous as our table was by the window and the weather was incredible for the middle of February. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with our lunch, as i was expected for a meal we paid over £120 for two. My celeriac risotto was very salty, so i could not taste any other flavours , but salt, tempura prawns were covered with very thick and greasy tempura butter, so i had to dig out prawns from inside and and leave this greasy butter on the side, my favourite padron peppers were murdered in the deep frier and were very soft and floppy! My partner had a fillet steak and they were very generously sprinkled with Rock Salt, which took the moisture and all the flavours away! There was a Rock Salt on the table for us to use if we needed, but they probably needed to prove the name of the restaurant!? My partner also had a straw potato cake which was nice and crisp, but very salty, which spoiled the flavour of the dish again! Wine was nice though 😂

Had a fantastic meal. Beautifully fresh and moreish sourdough with salted butter provided on the house to start. The chilli and garlic prawns and the loin of cod were cooked to perfection. Perhaps I could have had another slice of bread to accompany the prawns. The chunky chips were delightful with my cod. The seasonal greens also very nice. But perhaps less water in the bottom of the dish would have been great. My second time visiting. Other diners with me were also delighted with their choice of dishes. Had rather a long wait between main and dessert not really sure why as two of the desserts were ice-cream. Sadly the ice-cream was not up to price or the standard of the starters and main course. But the rhubarb millefeuille was a mouthwatering delight but rather small. I think I could have eaten two. Expensive but worth it. Views out across the harbour. Great location. Nice modern decor. Thank you.

We had a lovely evening and the food was great apart from my steak. Looked lovely, looked as though it was cooked medium rare but unfortunately it was quite dry. It was a little disappointing considering the price. I will definitely be going back as normally everything is perfect

We had a lovely meal at Rocksalt with our 2 boys. The food was delicious, we had oysters and prawns followed by cod which was all superb. The children's menu was also great and the staff were so friendly and helpful and very kind to the kids. We were not rushed at all and enjoyed a delicious leisurely lunch with a beautiful view.

Les was outstanding, as was the food overall (and thats why we booked) and a special mention goes out for the Tarte Tatin - wow, sublime!! The windows were sadly dirty, where we sat (in the corner) but perhaps there had been a storm and the toilets seemed a little tired and perhaps Stefan could have been a little more on his toes, although you were busy as it was half term and there were lots of tables (with children, like us!!) Sadly, for you and me, I returned a 2nd glass of wine (as by the time it reached me, I had finished my main course. We also dined at your Radnor Arms and Ruby was truly amazing, a real asset. Super efficient and friendly, to just the right level! We loved the Interior Design and will be back to enjoy your little garden in the summer, looks fab. Overall, a great experience - thanks to all. We plan to re-visit in the summer and perhaps stay/try another one of your properties . Many thanks also to Julia who called about my booking and was also very professional on the phone and had a super lovely way.

Two of us had lunch. One chose from the Set Menu , all three dishes from which were excellent, crisply executed, and felt like good value. The other chose from the A La Carte. The crab starter portion was very lean, and the skate both meagre, and I felt overcooked such that the meat round the wing bones was charred and the flesh dry. I also felt that providing two small slices of excellent bread, and then charging for two more small slices felt ungenerous. Nice service, great location and some Set Menu excellent dishes, marred by a couple of less impressive A La Carte dishes.

The restaurant food and service is excellent, but they could be a bit more generous with the portions

2 of us were disappointed in our Halloumi starter as the Halloumi was so over cooked, parts of it were cremated. My sisters mashed potato was almost cold ( she had the wild boar sausages for her main course), but she didn’t want to make a fuss to request it was heated up. We all waited ages for our main course ( other diners who arrived after us and had had their starters received their main courses well before us) we all felt our table had forgotten so we had to inform the waitress. On a positive note we had a lovely sunny table and view, and the cod bite starters my sister and husband had were very tasty and enjoyable

Love this restaurant as the ingredients, cooking, ambiance, and service are usually impeccable. On this occasion it was good but not great, with the service a little awry - the vegetables did not arrive at the same time as the main course so our fish was half eaten before the veg arrived, and getting waiting staff attention proved difficult on occasion including even getting the bill. Maybe too many covers for the number of waiting staff employed? That said some standout dishes were the prawns starter and both the cod skate wing main courses. Overall good but not great on this occasion.
