The Rose & Crown in Wakefield

Don’t know where to start but won’t be going again. I was drinking Diet Coke I thought, but after checking my sugars found I wasn’t. On the next round I watched after ordering and yes the lady was pouring me full fat coke. When I mentioned it to her she changed to diet mid way as if it was ok. I’m diabetic and no it’s not ok. The landlady also is very rude and what was a great pub when I was younger. Is far from this now.

Called for tea this evening after looking on line at the menu. Online looked like there were several options we would like but on arrival offered an A4 laminated sheet of available meals.

We went to the Sculpture Park but wasn't keen to eat at their cafeteria. We looked at the pub by the motorway island (Post Office) but that was busy (and looked expensive) so decided to push on down that road to look for somewhere else. We came across this place and took a chance. It was a Sunday afternoon and I have to say it was a good find. they have recently been refurbished and has the usual sports screens. However, we just wanted lunch and had their Sunday lunch (just £6.95) The food was well cooked and plenty of it. they have recently moved to cooking from fresh so all veg etc. was fresh. The staff were great! very welcoming, helpful, chatty and funny. Will stop there again

Had the meal deal, 2 mains for £9, defiantly right pricing for the food. Staff very friendly and a very clean pub. Would recommend.

as above i had the "carvery"on sunday very well presented,polite staff.and immaculate dining area .i was well and truly full i will be calling back very soon.p.s tell LINDA i took her advise and was not dissapointed good luck to all the staff

Scampi and chips best we have tasted! Good food, arrived piping hot, fast service, great value. Am well impressed.

I think the standard of food here is excellent could not ask for a better meal the staff are very friendly I would recommend to my family and friends I had the fish cakes and mushy peas

HOME MADE CHIPS very rare t come by outstanding service food was stunning and very cheap people this is a highly recommened place

Dined here on 27th feb had the steak night deal very busy but lanaged excellently cant fault it one bit food excellent staff well organized wood highly recommend

We drink in here quite regularly on a Saturday night and planned to take advantage of the steak offer last night ( two steak meals and a bottle of wine for £19.95) We had eaten here before the new owners/managers took over and it had been good. We had also seen lots of couples taking advantage of the deal over the Valentines weekend recently. The plan was for us to try it last night and then our friends wrre going to travel over from Leeds next Saturday and enjoy the deal to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. When my husband went to the bar to order the food but was told that because there womas a large party eating in the restaurant then they could not offer the deal to any more customers- despite the fact that menus were on the tables.Presumably this crowd need to either get more staff or get staff who do not panic quite so easily. I am thoroughly disgusted by their attitude and expect they will lose quite a lot ofbusiness as a result of this poor business decision.

We boked a birthday event.as friends we knew had been to parties there...We arrived 30 mins before the the birthday girl as this was to be a surprise...They had double booked and there were people fom another party in our selected area...This caused tention on both parties and the manager was totaly stressed out. We cleaned our tables and asked for the buffet to be brought out .The buffet was plain and average to say the least...very dissapointing..

We called in to watch a Saturday lunchtime football match as wanted somewhere to have lunch at the same time and wanted to avoid the town centre. It was great, lots of TV screens so you don't miss the game, and good selection of drinks. We shared cheesy wedges, huge portion filled us both, excellent value for £2.50. My only criticism would be it was cold in the pub, but I was told this was due to the boiler not being fixed properly so hopefully this has been rectified now.

Called here for tea on Thursday and was pleasantly surprised with the fresh new look of the place. Clean and open restaurant serving good wholesome reasonably priced food. What’s more unlike many places in the area the wine and beer will not break the bank. Nice outdoor seating area on the decking to enjoy an after meal drink. This side of Barnsley improving continually. Ideal for a quick meal after work. Some great friendly and attentive staff
