Sea Urchin in Wakefield

This chip shop used to be really nice but just had fish and chips and they were the worst I've ever had. Chips were chewy, fish was dry and tasteless and batter well soggy and not crunchy.

This spot is ideal on the main road in Gawthorpe. Quite a fair bit of parking too. Wheelchair access. Ramp and grab rail..

Fish is really nice although batter is really hard its like you need a chissel to get through it. And the prices are extorsionate. Bring back a fiver for fish and chips please

Tryed this place a few times as it's local to me. I called in for a fish and all I can say is it was a waste of money it's terrible it got binned. it's gone down hill after the change of ownership a few years ago.

Fish was fresh fried, no complaints. Chips rock hard over cooked or held in hot hold for too long. Couldn’t eat them at all. Not nice.

When the fish is fresh it is very nice but too many times now I have been and the fish I have got is on the turn. Might be because I go a bit later in the day but will be giving the place a wide berth from now. Staff are v good.

Realy nice fish and chips prices are as good as anywhere else they also do kids meals and loads of extras its a clean takeaway decent for parking cant fault it 5 stars 👍

Bought childs portion for my 103year old mother-in-law , she said the fish was lovely with tasty batter and the chips were great.

Used to be my favourite chippy but the past 2 times I've been it hasn't been great. And today was worse than the last..over cooked greasy fish. And stone cold greasy chips.. looks like I am going to have to find a new chippy.. shame as its always been good in the past :(

Rather than give a bad review I won't coment but you might need to improve certain areas......and will not spend good money in hear again

Guys i got to say I am absolutely sorry I haven't left a review on this shop already,!! because the fish and chips what I get from here when I am driving in the area or up the M1 is absolutely amazing... I can cook a good fish and chips, and this makes me appreciate a good fish and chips when I taste one and I know that it is done to perfection... well done guys awesome fish and chips very tasty

My partner just brought home couldn't eat went straight in bin what a waste!! Genuinely the worst fish & chips I've ever had absolutely dripping in cooking oil which tasted and smelt horrible and off-putting. I'm afraid will be cereal for tea tonight and fish & chips elsewhere in the future.

First time I've been here since I was a kid and they were amazing, the fish was ginormous and the staff were really friendly and chatty. We'll be back thank you 😁

I haven’t tried Sea Urchin for a number of years as I’ve always found them greasy, undercooked. I’ve heard good things lately so decided to try once more, they have new staff in and boy can you tell, the food was cooked to perfection, fish was beaut no grease in site. Perfect. Highly recommend.

Wow what a Chippy Not been in for a few months but tonight I decided to call in as was just in the mood for it Can tell there’s a new fryer as the fish was cooked to perfection and I can’t believe not a single drop of grease in site Chips were proper chips not soggy and not rock hard they were perfect and my son says the large sausage was best he’s ever had bless him he is only 5 but we all know kids say it as it is Great staff very friendly and place looked spotless and very clean Will be back again soon

Lovely fish and chips, portions are a good size I recommended to my family and they agree with me, last time I went to barracuda and got a special it was tiny with thick batter don't waste your money going there give sea urchin a try .

Lovely food and value for money

This is the best chip shop I've been to in the UK. My partner and I used to live locally but moved and now we travel 250 miles to come back. The fish bites are to die for. I cannot tell you how lucky we feel to have found this place. Also the owners are the friendliest most caring people I've met and they remember everything about me even if I haven't been for months. Honestly I can't recommend this place enough, amazing food and it's like being home when I visit.

Travelled from London to visit the wife's family. Like Scotland, Yorkshire's Fish & Chip shops remove the skin from their fish before frying. The "Sea Urchin" is another Yorkshire fish and chip shop that serves amazing Fish&Chips. The two female staff members who were serving when I visited were helpful, polite and chatted away. Will definitely return when we are next up seeing the Family. Highly recommended 👌👍👏💯

Tried Sea Urchin a few times now as my usual fish shop is too greasy these days.. Every time they've been a decent meal! Never too greasy which is great for me and the fact you can call to order is great as you arrive and never wait too long. Staff are friendly. New regular fish shop!

Best fish shop in Ossett/Dewsbury. I regularly call heat on my way home from Leeds. Why? Food is always hot and tasty but staff are amazing friendly and helpful. I pass two other fish shops after sea urchin before I get home. But always stop at this one. The friendly service makes it where I want to spend my money. The staff always chat with me and food quality is amazing. Only thing wrong is ( I can’t give this place 6 stars!) 👍

I came in tonight with my toddler to order some fish and chips, as well as a vegetarian option as previously seen on Facebook that it's been available. We ordered 1 large vegetarian option, 2 regular options. I double confirmed with one of the staff that it's vegetarian, and it is due to religious and dietary requirements that I have ordered that option. The staff member confirmed it with me that it was, but to my surprise I have found 3 fish portions instead of the vegetarian one I have asked for. Portions are good, taste is not bad; however please have better product knowledge in training staff. This could be absolutely severe to religious people, and it is crucial to not mistake these things that could be offensive as an allergen or to religion.

Not quite sure how people could have any problems or bad reviews of this place, fantastic customer service first off, super friendly especially since they were so busy, secondly the fish, chips, curry sauce and gravy were all gorgeous and the portions were huge, can’t go wrong.

Absolutely happy with the service tonight. I bought large fish and chips x3 with large gravy and 2 large curry sauces. I cued and when I got to the front I asked if Nhs have to cue. I was told no I could just come to the front and then I was only charged £10 and got a round of applause from all the staff. It brought a tear to my eyes. Well done everyone who was in work tonight. It was very busy and food was amazing x

The food is great chip shop food, well organized place even when busy, service is usually good when I've been, however I did have had an occasion recently when a member service awkwardly chose not to acknowledge I was waiting to be served, seemingly skipping me in the queue.. Foods good, service was a tad questionable. Probably won't be back due to this frustration.

Not a regular but go there when I fancy fish n chips and never disappointed. Nice atmosphere, really friendly and quick service plus they take card payments. Generous portions and good fish, batter pale but tasty. Great curry sauce too!
