I booked afternoon tea for two for my friends birthday and it did not disappoint. We had four little sandwiches each with various fillings. Four sweet treats and a scone with jam and cream plus unlimited tea and coffee. Lovely food and friendly hard working staff. We had a wander around the farm shop and the animals. For a small fee you can feed the animals. It’s changed a lot since my last visit and definitely worth a visit with children.

Like every other "farm shop". I'm not convinced everything is local at all but is certainly over-priced on-par with other modern farm shops. Fare is good quality though and we enjoyed the pastries and cakes etc although it's a rarity due to price.

On previous visits we have thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch here, we always requested the balcony table near the till, it's lovely, not many people walk past so that's why we choose it. On our recent visit we discovered the table which normally seated 4 was split into 2, which is all good and well but when you compare it to the downstairs tables you can see they are noticeably much smaller, I did comment when shown the table about it must be a struggle to put 2 x cups 2 X teapots then the meals the gravy and the veg on, the member of staff didn't pass comment, our meal arrived and my husband put the teapot on the floor, I also took the plate which held the gravy back to the young lady at the till, again I pointed out the lack of space and how ridiculous this was!! Sorry but we won't be back, seems profit over customers satisfaction

Popped in to get lunch before getting on the M1. I had carrot soup and a tuna jacket potato. Both were amazing! My partner had the pulled pork sandwich and said it was very good. The actual shop is huge, and lots of good produce. There's the Barn Kitchen which was very busy so I suggest booking a table. We picked up food from the hot counter and there is a nice covered area where you can sit outside to eat.

I've been before for breakfast which was passable. Lunch on Sunday was not to be recommended. There was no mushroom pie, one of just a couple of vegetarian options. I settled on fish and chips. I've no idea what the fish was but it was absolutely tasteless. The batter that coated it was also utterly tasteless, not even a hint of seasoning of any kind. The prices are beyond exorbitant considering the tasteless food. I will not be visiting again.

Visited the farm today with our grandkids to see santa, arrived a little early but had plenty to do with the activity pack given by the elves, after seeing santa and we got to choose our own present from the workshop we went to feed the animals, it was a great experience for the kids, just one thing that spoiled it, but it was a really big thing, going in to see santa, the room was very poorly lit, I could see the grandkids faces and they looked terrified my eldest held my hand so tight they were terrified, I just think that Santa's room was a little bit more inviting and festive the experience would have been so much nicer.

We regularly have Breakfast here, we have had very mixed experiences of late. We ordered food & drinks, this arrived super quickly but the scrambled egg in the bowl was stone cold. We managed to catch the waiters eye who apologised & took the egg away but left the toast which also went cold while waiting for the egg to come back. These things happen but when the egg was brought back it wasn’t a fresh portion, it had been re heated in the microwave.. the egg was the shape of the bowl & had lost all its moisture. We ate what we could & the waiter arrived with a selection of mini deserts as a way of apology.. which was a nice touch but we would have rather enjoyed our breakfast. These things happen, prices here have recently increased twice and are now in line with The Ivy & Betty’s of Harrogate for breakfast & this is where from now on we will be booking our breakfast treat. Real shame!

My wife who uses a wheelchair was invited to our granddaughters baby shower. She discovered when she got there it was upstairs in the cafe with no accessibleity so she was plonked on a table downstairs alongside my daughter and other granddaughter away from the main group no effort was made to find an alternative where they could have been together .Facilities for the disabled are very poor

site_logo

Terence Bourne . 2024-11-05

MORE AT Google

Absolutely no accessibility provisions for people in wheelchairs at the restaurant. There's a ramp leading up to it but no way for someone in a wheelchair to open the doors on their own, and a huge ridge in the doorways that took a lot of work to get over in the wheelchair. Was booked for a baby shower which was in the closed off area upstairs, and the person booking it for our party had asked if there was wheelchair accessibility to get upstairs and were told that there was a lift, which turned out to be a lie. This left an old lady in tears as she couldn't celebrate the baby shower of her first great grandchild and was stuck downstairs away from the rest of the party with two of us sat downstairs with her. Even the "disabled parking" is just normal parking spaces with a disabled sign in front of it, no space to allow for people in wheelchairs to get in and out, luckily we managed to get parked at the end of the row however this was on a. Big slope which made getting in and out of the car difficult. Completely spoiled what should have been a special occasion. The afternoon tea was nice and the staff were lovely but it doesn't make up for being lied to. Had they been honest and upfront when it was booked then we could have booked somewhere that was wheelchair friendly.

Frankly not as great as the hordes of visitors would suggest. I get the food is supposed to be premium quality but it just doesn't warrant the money they charge. Had a breakfast for three of us, yeah it was pretty good but was it worth over £20 a head for three breakfasts, three fruit juices and three hot drinks? Hell no! Sausages were great, bacon ok only, black pudding amazing but they need to teach the cook how to cook a fried egg! To be fair, and for balance, the serving staff were great. Final joke was asking for 40p for a paper bag in the shop. I'd be supportive of that price for plastic, but paper? I doubt they cost more than a few pence each. Obviously I'd usually take my own bag but we were originally only going for breakfast. I doubt I'll return, simply not worthy of the hype!

Have not been here for a while as I thought it had gone downhill a bit. Todays experience however was very good. The menus are decent, although I am not vegan or veggie and don't know how well catered for they are. The food was delivered promptly and was tasty and hot. Staff were good. One thing did let the experience down though and nothing to do with the staff. A couple of young mothers with a couple of young children (one in a high chair) left devastation behind when they finished their food. There was food all over the floor around the high chair. There was no attempt to tidy up the table either. I do not expect them to leave the place spick and span but there was no effort to even clear up the larger pieces of food that had been dropped. Neither was there an apology to the staff on leaving. Is it an age thing?( I am in the elderly bracket). To me it is just politeness to make an attempt to leave the table tidy whether or not you have children with you.

Food is amazing, and the setting is incredible. Perfect day to spend with children along the farm trail. Unfortunately, the restaurant and farm shop staff are incredibly slow, and some are very rude. We were served by young gentleman in the restaurant. He brought out our drinks and missed the same drink off twice. When we asked about this he attempted to slyly swear at us under his breath, unfortunately not quietley enough. He clearly had a terrible attitude and made myself and my family feel uncomfortable for the rest of our meal. When we were leaving the car park, this same young man went speeding out of the car park, causing us to have to jump out of the way as he sped off without a second glance in our direction. (Young man, curly ginger hair) Disappointed this behaviour goes on in such a lovely place.

Called in the farm shop today as we were passing at lunchtime, I’m coeliac so always look out for some nice treats, how disappointing it was, there was the teeniest tiny shelving of normal supermarket biscuits, dry pasta and not much else, I would rather there been nothing than this very poor effort. Went to the cafe for lunch, sounded like a decent selection of GF food, opted for the falafel salad, normally came with a flat bread, when the food arrived I noticed my bowl was hot, not a good start when it was a cold salad, the 2 slices of very poor gluten free bread on the side of the dish felt like toast on 1 side but soft on the other telling my my food had been under the warming lights waiting to be served, who puts a salad u der warming lights! My husbands Caesar salad was also in a hot bowl. There’s lots of decent bread out there now that is GF, try using share par baked rolls, if you offer GF food it needs to be edible, neither me or my family will ever visit again. Oh and when someone asked if everything was ok I did tell her, she was stunned into silence and walked away, why ask if you don’t want to know when there is a problem

This could have been a lovely hour or so instead a bit of a let down. The first experience to let the farm shop down was the carpark total gridlock cars parking wherever they liked some dangerously so, looked for disabled bays couldn't see any cars where parked on the roads outside making it dangerous to exit. It was advertised as Yorkshire day so packed went for the stalls they had promised about 8 small stalls very uninspiring items for sale. We decided to eat at the Restaurant we waited a good 8 minutes to be told by a very snappy lady who informed us all tables booked hardly oneone upstairs and most of the outside free when I said it would have been nice to know it was booking only I was told well you should know it's been like this for years it was our first visit not very good customer service. Over last couple of years we have usually got a good reasonably (comparably) priced Barista made takeaway coffee several times a week, and purchased other items from farm shop whilst there . Ordered usual Lattes this morning but suprised to find that the Barista operated machine has been replaced by a new push button coffee dispenser!!!! WHY?? if its cheaper to operate any saving has not been passed on to customers. The machine made coffee was weak and tasteless compared to the usual Barista made brew. The takeaway counter has lost its upmarket impression without the old machine. No reason for us going to buy other expensive items in farm shop if coffee not good - Paying £3.35 for a takeaway insipid machine made coffee is not a good experience. We expect a cup of coffee not hot milk. Really suprised that a high priced shop needs to change to a lower quality coffee maker.

We have been for Sunday lunch several times now, and on every occasion it has been excellent. Home produced beef with all the trimmings great portions, melt in the mouth, served by very well trained and friendly staff, 2 courses plus bottle of wine for 2 people - less than £60 - great value.

I've gone here since it first opened in one small barn conversion. Lately it's very hit and miss. The sandwich selection in the shop seems to have expanded but I won't be buying any more after my last purchase. Soggy bread, wilted lettuce (that looked like cooked spinach it was so slimy) and today I'm feeling ill. In the past I've been caught out by expired items still for sale in the shop, so I hope this sandwich hadn't been hanging around too long. The fruit and bread I bought were excellent, but will not risk sandwiches again.

I don't know how you do it, but you always find the most helpful staff. No complaints whatsoever, wish I could give more than 5 stars. As ever very helpful.

Having been previously, I've never had any issues and would have given 5 stars. However, today's visited has changed that and we probably wouldn't return in a hurry. Initially went to the Barn Kitchen. Didn't have a table booked but there were plenty of spare tables inside and out. Told the last unbooked table had just gone and that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the next one to be available due to bookings. Fair enough, and with a small child we chose not to wait and instead take up their offer of the takeaway courtyard. The courtyard area was very busy, with the pizza kitchen and courtyard kitchen both open for food. Music was blaring and at that point we should have made the decision to go elsewhere, but we didn't. We ordered two pizzas and a little farmer lunch box (price inflated from the sign in the little farmer's trail area at the back of the Barn Kitchen). The lunch box was very disappointing. Our child, who eats everything, would not touch the sandwich, dry bread, floury cheese and all. This was not a good sandwich for £3. For a farm venue, we expected better. Luckily, she ate the fruit and drank the juice, then had to share some of our pizza when it arrived. The pizza itself was fine, but we felt it overpriced. After eating, we had a look at the farmer's trail at the back, where we noticed the price inconsistency as mentioned earlier. We also noticed a myriad of free tables outside, as there had been when we initially arrived. Due to where we had sat to eat, we could see how many people were entering and exiting the barn and at no point was the whole eating area full, either inside or out. This was a thoroughly disappointing visit and I don't think we'd come back.

Service good, must have changed sausages to cheap ones, don't mind paying higher price for quality. Won't be having breakfast again as it's not value for money everything is over priced

Been for afternoon tea with a voucher that I was given as a Christmas present with a value of £42 and when I went to pay I was charged an extra £2 because the price had gone up since it was bought. The sandwich’s and scones were ok but the rest of the cake selection was very poor. I would not recommend it to anyone as it was not very good value for money.

Last couple of times I’ve been I was unable to get a table. I suppose you need to book in advance. Little annoying though as there were plenty of empty tables and the manager wasn't particularly helpful, no offer to wait or eat outside for instance. I won’t be going back sadly. I appreciate you probably need to book in advance but that doesn’t suit me, I don’t tend know in advance when I want a breakfast on a sunday morning, it’s more of an impulse for me. Will go somewhere else in future to avoid disappointment.

Farm shop is excellent, Barn Kitchen has amazing food, but the real gem is the farmers trail! Jen who staffs the trail is passionate and informative, been twice now and Jen remembered me and made both visits excellent! The lamb feeding was an incredible experience! Jen gave us information about the animals and their care. Blacker Hall clearly cares about their animal welfare, all animals are well looked after! Definitely worth a visit and we will certainly be back! Thanks to Jen!

Booked breakfast for 10am with 3 friend, at 10.20 I had to request someone take our order. Its a good job they didn't put into practice us vacating our table for 11am. The breakfast quality was good but unfortunately the food was only warm, not hot. I won't be rushing back.

5 of us came today for the lamb feeding experience. 2 adults. 3 children costing £30. We were very underwhelmed with the (experience) it was chaotic to say the least. We were crammed onto benches with lots of other family’s and children. One of us wasn’t given a bottle. And it was over and done with after literally 2 minutes. Hardly the lovely family experience we where hoping for. Extremely disappointed.

First visit and we will definitely be back. The fact you can look around the animals for free is brilliant and our little boy absolutely loved this. The farm shop is well stocked with delicious cakes, pies and meat and has everything you could ever want. The restaurant was also excellent, service was very quick despite being busy and the roast beef was the best beef I've ever had. Really soft and well cooked. I'd recommend booking a table as it was really busy. We managed to spend a good few hours here so I was really impressed!

We were in the area and i was looking at places to visit for dinner and this popped up. It looked busy but luckily we managed to get a table for 3 (was a very sticky table). Waited about 5 minutes and someone came and took our order. Drinks arrived quickly and food wasn't too long of a wait. Was very disappointed to see there was nothing at all for Vegans on the lunch menu (there were 2 items on the breakfast menu), so we asked the server who went to check and said there was one falafel salad that could be amended (it had yoghurt on it so could be left out). One choice isn't very good in this day and age. So husband had that falafel salad which he said was very vinegary. He managed to eat it as it came with a wrap. I had Fish and Chips which was nice, chips were good, big fat triple cooked ones but the fish was all batter and not much fish. Son said his burger was spoiled by the massive amount of onion chutney they had put on it, even more so as he asked for it without anything but the cheese and bacon (yes we could have sent it back but then he would have eaten after us). All in all for the price (£55) it was a little disappointing and from an independant.

Had a lovely meal here tonight. Following lockdown it felt perfectly safe and good procedures were in place. A couple of minor mistakes with the food but Joe our waiter put those right promptly. All credit to the lad, he was really polite and attentive. Give the lad a rise.
