Went for some food with family, having been before I was really looking forward to it and knew what to expect. I ordered their beef burger this time and when it came it was presented really well, tasted good, however had so much grease dropping out of it onto the plate, baring in mind this is the only thing that I ate. Later on that evening when I got home I could still feel the food almost sitting at the top of my stomach and felt really heavy, an hour later I was violently sick and continued to be so for the rest of the night until around midnight.

We were bought a gift card to use by a family member. We then came to eat and they told us it had been used before, despite neither us or family member having been here. Noone avaliable to resolve on the day. The offered a discount, but not to honour the voucher we had been bought and which had been paid for in full. Will not return, feel very let down.

Sorry but for £14.45 it was more than disappointing. The breakfast was ok, but nothing special. It came a bit too quick i.e. all pre cooked like a buffet in an all you can eat hotel. Eggs are give away of this when that slight rubbery texture prevails. Service good but sadly it was simply just Overpriced for what was served up. I get the attraction with the wonderful farm shop but I won’t call again after being served up average for premium price.

First visit today with my 2 year old. He loved the farm. We fed the goats and they were very gentle. Breakfast in the restaurant was fantastic. The staff were really friendly. The only thing it’s missing is a play area/couple of swings as it was a bit cold and wet for the sand pit where you have to take your shoes off

Have not been here for a while as I thought it had gone downhill a bit. Todays experience however was very good. The menus are decent, although I am not vegan or veggie and don't know how well catered for they are. The food was delivered promptly and was tasty and hot. Staff were good. One thing did let the experience down though and nothing to do with the staff. A couple of young mothers with a couple of young children (one in a high chair) left devastation behind when they finished their food. There was food all over the floor around the high chair. There was no attempt to tidy up the table either. I do not expect them to leave the place spick and span but there was no effort to even clear up the larger pieces of food that had been dropped. Neither was there an apology to the staff on leaving. Is it an age thing?( I am in the elderly bracket). To me it is just politeness to make an attempt to leave the table tidy whether or not you have children with you.

An amazing mix of groceries under one roof. Fresh meat from the farm or locally sourced producers, Fish and shellfish, fruit and veg, baked goods and deli items. Lovely restaurant (often v busy) and hot food and sandwiches to takeaway from the deli counter. Also offers click and collect, and drive through options. Children's area with farm based activities. This is a regular stop if we are travelling up the M1, and we are always glad to make the short detour. Highly recommend.

Food is amazing, and the setting is incredible. Perfect day to spend with children along the farm trail. Unfortunately, the restaurant and farm shop staff are incredibly slow, and some are very rude. We were served by young gentleman in the restaurant. He brought out our drinks and missed the same drink off twice. When we asked about this he attempted to slyly swear at us under his breath, unfortunately not quietley enough. He clearly had a terrible attitude and made myself and my family feel uncomfortable for the rest of our meal. When we were leaving the car park, this same young man went speeding out of the car park, causing us to have to jump out of the way as he sped off without a second glance in our direction. (Young man, curly ginger hair) Disappointed this behaviour goes on in such a lovely place.

Called in the farm shop today as we were passing at lunchtime, I’m coeliac so always look out for some nice treats, how disappointing it was, there was the teeniest tiny shelving of normal supermarket biscuits, dry pasta and not much else, I would rather there been nothing than this very poor effort. Went to the cafe for lunch, sounded like a decent selection of GF food, opted for the falafel salad, normally came with a flat bread, when the food arrived I noticed my bowl was hot, not a good start when it was a cold salad, the 2 slices of very poor gluten free bread on the side of the dish felt like toast on 1 side but soft on the other telling my my food had been under the warming lights waiting to be served, who puts a salad u der warming lights! My husbands Caesar salad was also in a hot bowl. There’s lots of decent bread out there now that is GF, try using share par baked rolls, if you offer GF food it needs to be edible, neither me or my family will ever visit again. Oh and when someone asked if everything was ok I did tell her, she was stunned into silence and walked away, why ask if you don’t want to know when there is a problem

This could have been a lovely hour or so instead a bit of a let down. The first experience to let the farm shop down was the carpark total gridlock cars parking wherever they liked some dangerously so, looked for disabled bays couldn't see any cars where parked on the roads outside making it dangerous to exit. It was advertised as Yorkshire day so packed went for the stalls they had promised about 8 small stalls very uninspiring items for sale. We decided to eat at the Restaurant we waited a good 8 minutes to be told by a very snappy lady who informed us all tables booked hardly oneone upstairs and most of the outside free when I said it would have been nice to know it was booking only I was told well you should know it's been like this for years it was our first visit not very good customer service. Farm shop very expensive ok don't mind that if it's good quality it's for a treat although the 2 pies we bought where nice definitely not worth the nearly £9 cost but the lady on the pie counter was lovely a complete credit to you. All in all could be a fantastic place but really needs to be thought out better

We have been going to Blacker Hall farm for many years. Over last couple of years we have usually got a good reasonably (comparably) priced Barista made takeaway coffee several times a week, and purchased other items from farm shop whilst there . Ordered usual Lattes this morning but suprised to find that the Barista operated machine has been replaced by a new push button coffee dispenser!!!! WHY?? if its cheaper to operate any saving has not been passed on to customers. The machine made coffee was weak and tasteless compared to the usual Barista made brew. The takeaway counter has lost its upmarket impression without the old machine. No reason for us going to buy other expensive items in farm shop if coffee not good - Paying £3.35 for a takeaway insipid machine made coffee is not a good experience. We expect a cup of coffee not hot milk. Really suprised that a high priced shop needs to change to a lower quality coffee maker.

Once again we went for all our meat and vegetables and once bought decided to have breakfast in the Cafe which was empty but a very arrogant and rude lady at the front desk said they were completely full and there was no chance of a table even if we waited but there were hardly anybody in the Cafe. She was extremely rude and very disrespectful but behind us was a young couple with a baby who came out of the rain asked for a table and they were treated as shabbily as ourselves We are very loyal to this farm shop as the produce is of premium quality but the prices reflect this quality and we accept the cost but nobody should suffer with rudeness and disrespect therefore sadly we will never visit again after all these years of loyalty Sometimes business forget where they started from and where they are now and the loyal customer that got them there

The sandwich selection in the shop seems to have expanded but I won't be buying any more after my last purchase. Soggy bread, wilted lettuce (that looked like cooked spinach it was so slimy) and today I'm feeling ill. In the past I've been caught out by expired items still for sale in the shop, so I hope this sandwich hadn't been hanging around too long. The fruit and bread I bought were excellent, but will not risk sandwiches again.

Having been previously, I've never had any issues and would have given 5 stars. However, today's visited has changed that and we probably wouldn't return in a hurry. Initially went to the Barn Kitchen. Didn't have a table booked but there were plenty of spare tables inside and out. Told the last unbooked table had just gone and that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the next one to be available due to bookings. Fair enough, and with a small child we chose not to wait and instead take up their offer of the takeaway courtyard. The courtyard area was very busy, with the pizza kitchen and courtyard kitchen both open for food. Music was blaring and at that point we should have made the decision to go elsewhere, but we didn't. We ordered two pizzas and a little farmer lunch box (price inflated from the sign in the little farmer's trail area at the back of the Barn Kitchen). The lunch box was very disappointing. Our child, who eats everything, would not touch the sandwich, dry bread, floury cheese and all. This was not a good sandwich for £3. For a farm venue, we expected better. Luckily, she ate the fruit and drank the juice, then had to share some of our pizza when it arrived. The pizza itself was fine, but we felt it overpriced. After eating, we had a look at the farmer's trail at the back, where we noticed the price inconsistency as mentioned earlier. We also noticed a myriad of free tables outside, as there had been when we initially arrived. Due to where we had sat to eat, we could see how many people were entering and exiting the barn and at no point was the whole eating area full, either inside or out. This was a thoroughly disappointing visit and I don't think we'd come back.

I appreciate you probably need to book in advance but that doesn’t suit me, I don’t tend know in advance when I want a breakfast on a sunday morning, it’s more of an impulse for me. Waited about 5 minutes and someone came and took our order. Drinks arrived quickly and food wasn't too long of a wait. Was very disappointed to see there was nothing at all for Vegans on the lunch menu (there were 2 items on the breakfast menu), so we asked the server who went to check and said there was one falafel salad that could be amended (it had yoghurt on it so could be left out). One choice isn't very good in this day and age. So husband had that falafel salad which he said was very vinegary. He managed to eat it as it came with a wrap. I had Fish and Chips which was nice, chips were good, big fat triple cooked ones but the fish was all batter and not much fish. Son said his burger was spoiled by the massive amount of onion chutney they had put on it, even more so as he asked for it without anything but the cheese and bacon (yes we could have sent it back but then he would have eaten after us). All in all for the price (£55) it was a little disappointing and from an independant.

We are local so have been many many times over the years. And honestly, the service is just becoming more and more appalling. Last time we went we spontaneously arrived with family just before 12. The restaurant had many many open tables however the woman told us we had to leave. (?!?). She didn’t say why, she didn’t indicate that any of the excess tables had been booked. She didn’t even tell us how long the wait would be. She just told us basically (in not so many words) to bugger off. Suffice to say, we will NEVER be returning. In our family, it is now called blacklisted farm, And we will never return. None of the family. We drove to another restaurant where I happened to be speaking to another patron about the dreadful experience we had, and she said she really thinks blacklisted farm (blackerhall) have become too big for their boots. So not just us.

The price was reduced by 50p as I didn't have the steak. I only mention the pricing here as it leads me into my complaint... we brought my 9 month old daughter with us who is too young for us to order a meal for but I asked if it would be possible to have a few extra slices of cucumber for her chew. We were charged £2.75 for the cucumber which I think is appalling, 50p would have been reasonable and still a mark up!

The place is really nice, always busy. We had a meal which was delicious but not hot enough (only warm). But the staff were friendly and polite. We would definitely go back again.

3 really good breakfasts and lovely coffee all served by great staff. The quality of each item was outstanding. Very jealous I didn’t get black pudding as I managed to try my partners on his meal. The place is wonderfully clean and of course we could walk thru the shop and treat ourselves even more.

So disappointing to see that a once friendly family run local business has now become an impersonal money generating complex run by “communication and marketing managers “ , floor managers and till operators instead of the warm welcoming local staff of old. Had an issue today and was spoken to like complete dirt. No idea about customer service. If this is progress you can keep it. Obviously shopping here as a family since it opened counts for nothing. The original Mr. Garthwaite would not be impressed. They will be charging you to park next.

Plenty of good quality stock in all the various shops, you could actually do your weeks shopping here (if you were quite well off) Plenty of parking & the cafe is well worth a visit too 👍

Positive vibes..... Booked a table, sorted straightaway.....ordered straightaway....polite , friendly staff. Food mediocre Negative I don't know how they arrive at a bottle of diet Coke £3.45 & £12.95 for a steak& cheese sandwich ....nice steak but didn't have that much in.....fries weren't the best....all bitty.... £12.95 for quiche & fries & salad......again the fries weren't the best..... To be honest we won't be coming back....over priced and not good value for money.....

Visited here to go for breakfast. Sadly it was very busy so we decided we would return another day. Did some shopping in their great farm shop. We tried their takeaway Sunday lunches. Pulled pork, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and swede with gravy. The other choice was Pulled Beef Brisket. Really good generous portions,.all well cooked and good value for money. We would recommend.😊

Nice farm shop mostly great produce the only thing I don’t recommend is the baked potato with beans from the takeaway. They seem to be using Heinz beans so the quality is very poor as they are so watery and bland it spoils the dish

Called today after a recommendation by a friend. Restaurant was full and over an hour wait - totally understandable with it being school hols so we ate in the outside seating area from the food hut. Ordered 3 x warm beef baguettes at £5.95 each. When they arrived, it was really disappointing. Cheap bread and under filled sandwiches - I was surprised with what arrived for £5.95! Lovely seating area and staff really lovely and friendly. After eating our food, we bought 2 x pies from the farm shop: 1 x mushroom and 1 x steak and potato. We had the steak and potato pie for tea tonight and were extremely disappointed. Pastry dry, minimal steak in the pie just large chunks of potato and the steak that was there tasted really poor quality and one piece was so fatty it was like chewing paper. Really disappointed with the overpriced food - the quality is subpar for the cost.

I have been here so many times the food is lovely but on this occasion the food that we received was like a small children's portion which is unacceptable as it was my birthday I did not want to spoil it with my family this is why I am writing a review and as I am disabled the toilets were absolutely disgusting and they are so near to where the tables are where people are eating their food I do not expect to get a refund but I do expect and apology Margaret Giles

Came for breakfast this morning. Been several times before and had a good experience. This time my full English breakfast was just warm at best and had clearly been left under the lights. I sent it back and it returned looking like it had just been flashed under the grill and was still not hot. Having already waited 30-40 mins, I ate it. My mate had poached eggs on toast and was charged £1.40 for an extra egg. For a full English, poached eggs on toast and 4 coffees it was nearly £40. Well over-priced for the experience of just warm food.

Decent Breakfast served with chunky Toast.. Lots of decent Staff waiting on who was Pleasant and Attentive, but one person on the Door was not very helpful at all when wanting to settle our Bill, and who turned her back on us, prompting me to ask another pleasant member of Staff.. There was also a problem with this certain Member of Staff on our last visit as I recall, who clearly has an Attitude problem, and would clearly benefit from some Customer Care Training. Otherwise a very nice Breakfast.

Start with a positive. Very nice attentive staff. Full breakfasts x 3 bacon sandwiches x 3. First complaint was not nice eggs. Second complaint, tasteless bacon. Full English was not the best. The three bacon sandwiches were not liked by any of the people that ordered them. The bacon was dry and more like cardboard. The area and set up is very nice. But the food was not up to stansard

They have clearly got too big for their boots. We have been going 3-4 times a year for years and today decided to pop in for a bite to eat on the spur of the moment without pre booking. I was expecting it to be busy and that we might need to wait for a table but a flat refusal was not what was expected. Over half the tables were empty and we were told they would all be full with people arriving in the next few minutes. No option to wait for a table just turned away. It’s goes without saying we will never return and will instead go to Farmer Copleys where the customer service far exceeds Blacker Hall Extremely disappointed

Visited on 2nd Jan driving back to the Midlands from Newcastle, close to closing time having sought refuge from a very rainy M1 with our toddler and small baby. We were welcomed warmly by very friendly staff and refreshed suitably and generously with coffee and cake before continuing our journey. One of the staff members even stopped us from leaving a piece of our baby’s car seat that had dropped on the floor. And were even cheerfully understanding when we nearly forgot to pay! If we were nearer we would definitely return!

This chip shop used to be really nice but just had fish and chips and they were the worst I've ever had. Chips were chewy, fish was dry and tasteless and batter well soggy and not crunchy.

My food was cold. I didn’t even get a full slice of meat, the tiniest bit of gravy, the mash potato still had pretty much a whole boiled potato in it not mashed, and 5 huge roast potatoes. The whole thing was a disgrace. Won’t ever order again. Such a waste of money.

Cafe requires more staff as people's orders were getting mixed up and queuing for a long time for drinks . Staff seemed under pressure and disheartened .
