Best Carvery i have ever eaten and the price is more than reasonable, cheese sauce Amazing, Beef melt in your mouth, not a frozen veggie in sight and Yorkshire puddings you could sail to France in also enclosed play for kids around the back so parents can relax while kids play. Will definitely be back.

Food is always great. Service is great too.

Over the past four months, we've been going out frequently to socialize and play pool. We've encountered this particular bar person before, and her approach has always been quite unprofessional (rough around the edges). Yesterday, during our visit, she yelled across the room in front of other customers, reacting to our occasional cheers when we made a good shot. Her extreme rudeness made one of our friends cry in embarrassment. I was informed that the owner's daughter was sitting at the bar, so I approached her, apologized for our outburst of joy, and assured her we would keep it down. When I told the owner that one of our friends ended up crying due to the staff member's yelling, the owner said, "That's unfortunate. I believe we handled it fairly." I told the owner that while we were willing to comply, due to the circumstances and lack of common decency, we would no longer be coming back to The Tavern. The owner responded, "That's great, we don't need your business!" Wow... We will NOT be returning to Tavern.

First time visiting in years, was given good review about the home made food, was not disappointed. Good hearty freshly cooked carvery table, help yourself to vegetable warm very tasty, staff were all so really nice and welcoming. Oooo and to top off free pudding included in the price, defo a return visit in order 🍽

As always, a delicious Sunday roast dinner that offers a great selection of roast meat, pie and a variety of trimmings and vegetables. Good value for money and under 5s eat free. If I had to complain about something it would have to be the poor quality of soft drinks on tap. We've dared to order both cola and diet cola on multiple occasions and unfortunately it is just poor flavour off brand and results in us ordering lemonade each time. Otherwise though, easily the best quality carvery in the local area.

The food is always great here. Plenty of choice. Highly recommend. Great atmosphere and great choice of beers.

Only called forward drink while out walking

Just been for carvery (£10.50 each). This has to be the worst carvery we’ve had. I had corned beef ash with dumplings, couldn’t find any corned beef it was just jelly like gravy. The broccoli and cauliflower was hard. My husband had ham which was undercooked, again the veg was hard as rocks. Instead of removing the containers from the serving area and replenishing it with fresh containers the chef merely put new lot of mash, cauliflower and broccoli on top of the old produce. Poor H&S practice. We used to go regularly but they must have changed the chef. Won’t be returning.

this was the most expensive carvery and thenworst ive ever had. It was powdered mash. The whole dinner was awful. The place was nearly empty. They didnt do small plates of food for people who dont eat much like oap"s, or people with small apetites. Ill never go again. Didnt even get a free pudding in the price. Givenit a very wide birth. Deserves to close. Never again. Disgusting pricenat £10.50. i wouldnt even eat there if it was cheap. Yuk.

We went on a Saturday night so didn't have food although the owner brings some sandwiches and roast potatoes out later in the evening. There is karaoke on a Saturday night too.

Great carvery,staff are salt of the earth-Maggie has been there forever which says a lot. Lovely place to call for food,socialise or just enjoy a pint

Updating previous review as the man serving was incredibly rude telling my mother to stop moaning while she was just speaking with me about something totally unrelated! Very offensive! Then as she tried to explain what she was talking to me about put his fingers in his ears saying blah blah.. then the puddings were black as charcoal and food was bland.. unbelievable! Was a favourite place but we will not be returning! Shocking!

Gone down hill a bit, veg was so hard could eat it .

I was not totally impressed by the Sunday roast, it is a very popular place, with plenty of room. The price was same for everyone, Adult, child above 5 yrs and Seniors. We had 3 kids and our elderly mother who eats very little. Maybe smaller meals and reduce the price. We did not leave the leftover meat but took it home for the cat. It lasted 3 days. The quantity of meat you get is very good but far too much for us. You can help yourself to the veg. The cauli and broccolli was too hard for us but some like it that way. There is a good variety of veg but only a choice if Beef or Pork when we went. The yorkshire puds were burnt and there were no roast potatoes but fried little potato cubes. All in all it is worth the 12.99 you pay if you can eat that much.

After years of being regulars with Dad at The Olde Tavern in Pontefract we're so disappointed. Not only was the food cold/bad but after Dad complained, it wasn't even acknowledged. I commented on their Facebook page two weeks ago but it seems they only approve positive feedback & my question has been left hanging! Guess where we're not going again!! 😡

Lovely carvery Plates could have been a little warmer but beef and vegetables were lovely Plenty of choice Made me some gluten free gravy and advised on food Let themselves down a bit with choice of pudding for caeliacs It was either icecream or custard on its own which was bit dissapointing Coffee ☕️ after was good too

Great bar meals reasonably price good old fashion pub with so excellent beers on offer. Small tap rooms with a lovely wood burning fire in the one we was in. My partner is Vegan and they made a special meal off the menu and she loved it definitely going back.

First time visiting today for our anniversary. What can I say but excellent value for money 2 carvers with 2 puddings £17.00. Size of plates are huge, well good choice of potatoes from roast, mash and new , plenty of vegetables to choose from. The beef melted in your mouth. Yorkshire puddings are big. Gravy very tasty. Landlady was very lovely and friendly Will definitely come call back again. Thank you.

Went at lunch time through the week, the food is delicious ( home cooking). Portion size whopping, I had a carvery the beef was so tasty and tender, the gravy omg absolutely gorgeous we will definitely eat here again.

Wasn't a very nice experience, I had mash potato, mushy peas and scampi. The potato had that much butter and milk in it, it was like eating a tub of butter. Then my husband didn't want his dessert and because it was free with his meal, I was going to eat it. Only to be told by a very snobby waitress, you can't eat that.you haven't paid for a proper meal. My comment was, what does it matter who eats it, it has been paid for. No, you can't have it. So unprofessional of them. All she had to do, was ask the management. I'm sorry, but it's one pub that we as a family will not be going back to.

we were on our way home from caister on sea and we decided to stop off in pontefract for a meal we found the olde tavern and went in to the carvery very good food very cheap £8.50 for carvery and a sweet very friendly staff well done

Great carvery, never had mushy peas with a roast well when in Rome as they say first foe everything.

I absolutely love the carverys here,I moved out of the area & stopped going but I've moved back now & have started going every Sunday,the food is gorgeous the pie is beautiful loads of meat & the pastry is nice the meats are nice especially pork & crackling,the veg is really nice & fresh not stewed the stuffing 2 types is yum, roasties proper not frozen & the mash is lovely, its all really nice & you can put as much or as little as you want on, the only down side is you can't buy a child's portion,some children don't eat alot of dinner but you still have to pay adult prices so I'd say that's the only down part as some people can't afford to pay for adults meals for a child, i think if they changed that they would have even more customers,but regardless its always packed on a Sunday but your not waiting long for a table,the children's play area outside is nice it's not huge but it's nice for the little ones.

We eat here quite a lot, both midweek and Sunday lunch. Quite a few times with friends who come 35 miles just to see us and eat here. The choice is fantastic for the price. Never had a complaint. Friendly staff, good size beer garden, well kept beer. All in all, the best food for miles.

Was told this was the place to be for a mixed grill, called today Saturday 4th September after work after making a special trip their, only to be told they don't serve food on a Saturday after 3.30pm. Guess I aint gonna get to try the mixed grill. Not Impressed to say the least.
