We visited here as part of an informal event to gather geocachers together, so it was busy! Quick service and really lovely food. We both had lasagne, which was great but the chips were just fabulous.

We came here for a family birthday. There were a lot of us. Inside was clean, spacious, and warming. There is plenty of space to find a seat. We picked from the lunch menu. Please see the photos attached. Chicken goujons and Steak and Ale Pie for the mains. Cheese cake and chocolate fudge cake with ice cream for dessert. The chicken goujons were ok, they were the equivalent to what you get at McDonald's. The pie, though, was stunning. Plenty of tender meat inside, and the chips were proper chips. I would recommend this as a main here. As for both desserts, they were great aswell. Service was quick, staff were friendly, and it was reasonably priced.

What a lovely country style pub With home cooking in house. I would highly recommend. The welcome you get is like you go every week. All the staff are amazing and helpfull in every way possible. The night was to celabrate my birthday with my wife sister and brother in law. The food was exceptional. we went for the 3 courses. The home made vegetable soup was the best i have had. The other 3 starters were prawn cocktail and you certainly got plenty. again all 3 said it was delicious. Mains i had teak & Kidney pie chips & garden peas with gravy. It was to die for thoroughly enjoyed it. I finished of with treacle sponge & custard my fave. and again was made to perfection. The staff even came and sang happy birthday to me with a candle in my pudding. They have a wide variety of beers fine wines and spirits, which we defonatley had to try the worthingtons bitter was pur nectar. All in all this gem of a pub is Amazing. The individual dining rooms give you that cozy feeling and you can have a conversation freely with out having to shout .Even though there is ligjt hearted music playing in the back ground. A big thank you to all who made our visit so lovely. Keep up the amazing work we will see you all soon.

Found this pub by much detective work as most local pubs were not inspiring. Nice large car park. Clean inside everywhere. We went to the back in the conservatory with a good view and overlooking the mining museum. Seating was comfortable. There were a number of tables outside the back. Beers were a good price. Now to the food, good food choices and prices were below normal. We all agreed that the food was excellent and a good plate full. We will return without doubt. Only let down was it wasn't dog friendly 😕

Went for Christmas dinner. Due to eat at 2pm but not received first course by 2 30.Had to ask why delay. Was due to earlier booking being late. Main course portions weren't very big for what we paid. Was confusion as to who was having what but did not excuse the attitude of the owner snapping and waving the order sheet in front of my girlfriend saying it's what's on the order sheet and it's not there fault. We eat there regular and it's not the first time her attitude has been poor. Finally after desert we got mince pies and chocolates but apparently tea and coffee was not included in the £70 we each paid but other tables has these. We were the last people in the pub and felt she just wanted to get rid of us. I can't fault the staff but there was 9 of us paying all together £630 and with her attitude I just felt she was very ungrateful. We will not ever eat there again. She spoiled the day

We went for Christmas dinner we had to wait 1/2 hour because a few tables were late. We finally got our starter but the main meal toke another 40 minutes to come. There was some mix up with the food and one of the staff came out saying this what you ordered just waving a piece of paper in front of my sister’s face. How she spoke to my sister was disgusting no manners paying 70 pounds for a meal and the staff didn’t care. We got a mince pie but no coffee or tea. They just wanted us out and locked us in. I will never go to this pub ever again. They were too busy and couldn’t manage a busy pub 4/10 rubbish won’t go again. If you do go the staf like too be nasty with you not good customer service at all.

A recent bad meal at the sun inn got me thinking, where do i go where i have never had a bad meal and the reindeer popped into my head. Sat here now wrapped around brie wedges and steak pie. The pie always has so much meat that you almost get fed up of eating it, but it is so good that you carry on until bloated. Veg is fully cooked, but not soggy and the chips are double cooked, lovely. No room for pudding though, boo. Service is great too.

We were out on a Sunday walk, on our way back from Emley. To be honest this pub doesn’t have great kerb appeal. DO NOT let this put you off. It is excellent. We had a couple of pints of Doombar and we have to say they were probably the best kept/poured pints we have ever had. The Reindeer is a lovely cosy pub with very friendly staff who are always pleased to help in any way. It's a real pleasure to eat here, and it wont be long before I return. They also have a good selection of beers, although I had Cider this time. If your looking for good food and great service, you can't go wrong with the Reindeer. Update: After a lengthy absence, for obvious reasons, I called back today and wasn't disappointed. The Sunday Roast is really good home cooked food. The very best. Had we been randomly looking for a pub on our journey home from Centre Parcs no doubt we would have given the visually dilapidated and ramshackle Reindeer Inn the swerve but once again the CAMRA real ale guide was worth it's weight in gold as we took a slight detour and entrusted our faith in the guide. Inside the pub is rustic but still has it's own charm and the rear beer garden has great views over and across to the National Coal Mining Museum, but does look like it is being tendered too by an octogenarian. The first revelation was the beers which were very good, shortly after which we were blown away by the 1980's prices; £6 for fish and chips which surely suggested a cheap and cheerfull meal a conviction further enforced by the presence of numerous OAP's amongst the clientele (Apologies for any ageism exhibited in this review). We also ordered a veggie soup, kids meal and Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake, Everything was spot on but the highlights were the fresh bread and the fish and chips which amazingly for £6 were proper homemade chips served up with chunky, fantastically tasty fish that definately wasn't just straight out of a packet from the freezer. If you are passing by, I'd implore you to overlook the exterior of this pub, it proved to be an absolutely fantastic feed and excellent value for money.
