New Inn Walton in Wakefield

Dropped in on a busy Sunday evening. The place was heaving but Andrew managed to find us a quiet table without a problem. The food and service were excellent.

Food never the same on different visits. Staff always look fed up. It's either a good meal or a rubbish one. Like most places it's getting very expensive.

We went here for lunch having never been before based on recommendation. We left feeling totally underwhelmed and disappointed. The venue is average , food average, however my partners burger did look amazing. All this was fine. What really shocked me was how miserable the staff were. Not one person smiled. It felt like they just could not be arsed and no one seemed to be happy to be there. We always tip as a rule but this is the first place we’ve been to for months where we actively chose not to. They couldn’t even care to ask if we enjoyed the meal. If you do go take some cleaning wipes. There menus are filthy and in need to cleaning or condemning. Sorry New Inn today was a total let down. Maybe it was Monday blues ?

Last minute booking for 9 in Loft 11. Fabulous service from booking to leaving. Place is great, food was fabulous , the meat and potato pie is actually a pie, not stew with a puff pastry hat, and was the best I've ever had in pub. All of our party enjoyed everything. That is a first. Service was attentive but not oppressive . Thanks to Beth and apologies to the other lady who attended to us but I didn't get her name, she was also fabulous. Recommend all day long

The service was exceptional. The food quality was fantastic. The scale of menu offered something for everyone with ages (7-80+ in our party) But more than that, the whole team made us feel extremely welcomed and valued, going the extra mile to genuinely ensure we had a lovely time. A fantastic venue for small or large gatherings as able to accommodate most groups sizes in this surprisingly vast pub, you won't believe how many different areas they have to accommodate larger groups, we head the Snug, and we comfortably fit 12 for Sunday lunch, a lovely space Thank you to whole team for making our day a special one.

My ex colleagues from Maybush medical centre 14 of us including 2 GPs had a meal here last night. It was lovely all the meals come out on time altogether. Our waitress Lucy went above & beyond to be helpful.. Fully recommend...

A absolutely fantastic evening, food was amazing and very good priced, the service was spot on, my daughter tooke out for mother's day, it made the perfect night. They really enjoyed ourselves.

Food was average but the kids meal sausages were inedible really dry consistency.

The online booking system was very good, easy to navigate and they were expecting us on arrival so that went well. It is a traditional old public house restaurant but well furnished, clean and comfortable with a good atmosphere and a great ambiance. We were treated with a smile and shown to our table which was in a good location by a bay window and was a good size for our party of six. The server quickly took our drinks order and left us with menus to look at. The drinks arrived promptly with no issues. The server came back in a timely manner to take our food order, she was polite and friendly and we got the impression that she enjoyed her job. The food arrived within 20 minutes and all dished came together with three servers bringing the dishes one after the other. The plates were hot the food was hot and well presented on the plate. All our dishes were good quality, two scampi, one large fish, one salmon salad, one sea bass and one burger. The portion size is good and came with sauces and extras as detailed on the menu. All our party said that the food was very good and tasty and no one was disappointed. The server came back and asked us if we needed more drinks, this was good and asked us if our meals were ok, service was very good overall. My only small complaint was that the homemade chips were dark and a bit soggy, not burnt and still tasty, maybe the oil needed changing. Overall a very good experience and enjoyed by all our party and we will return for future visits.

We had steak sandwiches with chips, salad etc, it was the best pub meal I have ever had the steak sandwiches were the best, Julie who was looking after our table couldn't do enough for us, very hospitable, she made our experience a good one, we are not from Wakefield but would go back if in the area.

Bike ride and food, quiet and friendly, chicken burger was a little over done, but it was tasty

We booked a party of 9 people for a 40th birthday event on a Sunday. It was our first visit here and we were seated in the 'Snug' which was very nice indeed however, we had to wait for 30 minutes after our booked in time for which I gave 4 stars. I also gave 4 stars for the food as one order was missing and item which the chef forgot to add, although the waitress did ask if we would like it bringing separately, our guest said no it didn't matter as we just wanted to enjoy our meals with the minimum of fuss, somehow on the bill we were still charged for it as an addition though ?? which didn't make sense. Another order came wrong, which had to be sent back and replaced for the correct one to be delivered. As it was a special event, we didn't want to complain and spoil the afternoon which otherwise was very pleasant. The Restaurant was very welcoming and had an amazing atmosphere, we would recommend booking though as it is a very popular venue. 'Get the Snug if you can' !!

Very let down when I loved this place so much once upon a time. Ordered steak sandwich, medium cooked and it was very chewy and couldn't bite or eat it. Furthermore let down by the staff when I mentioned it, all I got was a sorry. Really put off and wouldn't return for food by my own accord.

Very nice food Bit slow but we got it in the end Service was a bit slow behind the bar, there was only 1 person that knew how to do cocktails too so we was waiting a while which was a shame Other than that, very nice place to go

I did not eat here tonight, but the food looked gorgeous, and all empty plates. Lovely pub, it used to be my late husbands regular. I was hoping to see old photos of how it used to look, I know it has changed immensely over the years. Will visit again soon

Been here a few times over the last couple of months, every visit has been great, food is excellent and competitively priced, and the staff are amazing, very caring and good at what they do. I will be continuing to come here and recommend anyone reading this who's looking for a nice place to eat with great atmosphere and staff to come and check it out!

It's a lovely pub but a little pricey so nice for a treat but can't go too regularly. Food is always nice but I feel that the menu needs a change now cos when I go I struggle to find something I fancy. Staff are always friendly and service is always good.

My Wife and I came here as part of our 30th Anniversary and were so glad that we did. We were met on arrival by a very charming and friendly lady who wished us a happy Anniversary. We had a quick drink in the bar area and were then led to a delightful table for two in the heart of the pub. The staff were very attentive and our main meals and deserts were tasty and filling. We booked ahead even though we went mid week lunchtime and glad we did as it was full. Good choice of food on the menu, I went for the Haddock & chips (more like whale & chips) very tasty. Wife went for the Paella which she rated as superb. Staff were friendly & service good. We will be returning soon

Went for a Christmas lunch with friends. Meal was nice , never got offered any apple sauce, mint sauce, cranberry sauce. Very disappointing. No music that I noticed. Waiter started taking glasses, cups n water away before we were ready to leave, so we decide to leave.

Good food well priced, good ales to choose from and friendly staff. A few niggles, but too minor to expand on. Would I go again, yes. Would I recommend to family and friends, yes. 😀👍

Really disappointed with our visit. We normally enjoy our meals but this time it was not up to usual standard. Meat was dry, without much flavour. Service was so slow. Our lunch took just over two hours. Waitresses all very friendly but looked too rushed. Tables are very close together which was very uncomfortable.

Opted for £28 two course meal (Christmas) one of our party had the same main as us but no other courses.....they got charged for a Sunday roast at £16 for the same main..... you're telling me a dessert cost £12..... something is so wrong here with the cost! Would've liked water on the tables, and more gravy on the dinner but we didn't see our waitress until the main was nearly finished. Lovely place, very Christmasy just not thrilled...sorry

5 stars all round. Place is a little gem. Great atmosphere, staff lovely, food, especially the starters are out of this world. Best pub food around. If bar area was bigger it would be best pub ever. Love it here and will be back very soon.

After an excellent Sunday dinner in July and with a birthday due we decided to return. Due to having a party of 6 we had to book by phone, we rang 23 times before our call was answered. We rang on various days at various times, we tried just before opening time at 12 noon, during dinner time and during the evening, it was very very frustrating. In hindsight we should have left it at that and gone elsewhere, especially as the experience was far from satisfying. When the meals were served the four roast dinners came out together but the vegetables and side dishes didn't appear until five minutes later when because our meals were starting to go cold we'd already started eating. The fifth main appeared shortly after with the final main served nearly 5 minutes after that. I know it's not always possible to serve everything at once but this was extremely poor. The servers of which they're many look like they don't want to be there. For the amount of money we spent and for the service we received we won't be returning.

We visited on Friday evening after making a booking (which I assume would be needed as the pub was heaving) and entered via the front door a sign which said something along the lines of 'if you are here for a drink, head to the bar, if you are dining with us, please wait here' - after waiting for a good 5/10 minutes, no-one came & another customer said we needed to go to the bar to let them know we were here as no one takes notice of that sign (with it being the first time we had visited this place we were not to know & if that's the case - why not just remove the sign to make it less confusing??? As someone who is slightly anxious in social settings I found it highly embarrassing to have been stood there with all the regulars 'in the know') Anyway - on getting to the bar, we were seated quickly & the service we then received was good. Waiters & waitresses were polite & attentive enough (it wasn't the type of service that blows you away but neither was it bad) The food however was INCREDIBLE. I ordered the hot beef baguette & my husband ordered a burger - both came with chips & coleslaw - both of which looked homemade. Proper hearty pub grub & couldn't fault a thing. Food was a definite 10/10.

I ordered the steak, it wasn’t advertised as peppered, I wouldn’t have ordered it, it was covered in pepper. If I hadn’t been starving I’d have sent it back. Managed about a 1/4 an my other half ate the rest. His meal was lovely an the starter was nice. Just very disappointed, mentioned to staff it wasn’t advertised as peppered. Just a 23.95 mistake

Lovely pub with a great beer garden and plenty of drinks choices! I’m in frequently. However, the bar staff are consistently frosty and unwelcoming, especially the older lady. It’s my local village pub, it would be nice to have some friendly smiles and eye contact from the other side of the bar rather than feeling like an inconvenience

Very popular pub in the small village of Walton. Good pub food plus. Craft ale and gin choices are good. Recommend booking, well, anytime really. It nearly always seems busy.

We stopped off for lunch my friend had never been and was really excited to try it. But it was just not welcoming it wasn't about waiting for the food but more like we just were not welcome it was too much trouble we were inconvenient customers . Just for turning up !! My friend actually said " I have never felt so unwelcome " so we left after food And went somewhere else to enjoy drinks and the sun and spend hard earned money where its wanted. Rude and Indifferent 🙃

Friday lunchtime and you need to book! That for me speaks volumes!! We did have to wait for a table for a short time, this was at 1230, so I suggest booking to avoid having to wait or be disappointed. I had the muscles to start off the specials board and the portion was massive, filled with large plump fresh muscles in a cream garlic sauce and this was shared between two. I then had lasagne for main, but having see the portion size of this before I took a starter size portion and this was enough to fill me. Great food, great service and great price! Keep doing what you are doing!

I love eating here!.... i'ts one of my 'Go to' places, wether it be a quick lunch with a friend or a family roast or an evening dinner, the New Inn has it all! Great homemade food, fab service and atmosphere. Definitely recommend 👌

Celebrated my daughters birthday on Weds. Seven of us ordered food everything was beautiful and the service was excellent!

Sadly, tonight was not great. We waitedan hour for our starters even though there were empty tables, so not super busy. We've had great times here in the past and it was my father's birthday so wanted a special meal. I had the roasted red pepper humours to start, not good...needed some garlic or something. Mum had the halloumi, also tasteless. Great shame as I've only had good experiences here in the past. Paella was great, dad's pie was great, mum's scampi and chips arrived very dark looking. She said they tasted burnt. I also tasted them....dried out and over cooked. Such a shame as we always loved visiting here, but people arriving after us were recieving their orders before our table. Happy 83rd birthday Dad, sorry it was a disappointment. Needless to say, we will try again as usually it's great.

We waited over an hour for our starters to arrive after asking where they were. The Halloumi was very salty, I expected it to be spicy. The Humus was tasteless. Everyone s main was lovely except mine. Scampi and chips was so burnt, I sent it back. They knocked the price off the bill. I was so looking forward to the meal. It was my husbands birthday, we expected a lot more from The New Inn. Very disappointed

Disappointed, waited an hour for the main to arrive, service seemed chaotic! I ordered the curry off the day specials, when it arrived it was over cooked, chicken was stringy, curry sauce was like glue. Not enough deserts arrived and then the wrong one. Drinks were asked for and didn't arrive, asked again and two arrived! We have had good meals there in the past, New Inn don't let your high standards slip.

A really tidy and well looked after rustic style pub, staff all friendly too. Will go back.

My favourite pub food is brillent but went in last week a oldish dark haired women served me i asked for dry roasted peanuts she gave me salty dog i thought they were a treat for dog as dog freindly i said are these dry roased for humen consuption she said thats what it says on bag can u read ffs kp would be better ignorant women

A fabulous celebratory meal on Sunday in a super friendly restaurant with a lovely ambience. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. We really couldn't fault anything. Outside it was raining but inside there was a really warm welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again.

A lovely pub! We were staying at the hotel nearby and popped here for Saturday dinner. They squeezed us in, just a table for two. The food was really lovely, plenty of it and well presented. The toilets were lovely too with hand cream, hair spray and perfume. Would definitely go back if in the area again.

Went last night, had Scampi which was over cooked the chips were burnt and scabby. Diddnt enjoy at all good job we were hungry !! Best thing was the diet coke because it was nice and cold. Chef must have had a bad day. We wont be visiting again in a hurry.😒🤔

Excellent food, good atmosphere and friendly staff,would highly recommend a visit. Home cooked food was excellent and good sized portions. If you haven't already been I recommend a visit as has to be one of the best pubs around for good food and drink.

Food was fantastic, service incredibly slow. Think the serving staff need supervision as noticed at least 2 chatting whilst we were having to go to the bar for drinks/try to sort dessert. Decided against a dessert based on time it took for main courses. Will give it another try but think they really need to manage staff more effectively

It was our first visit and happened upon it whilst out for a mystery tour. Delightful village pub lovley atmosphere, friendly staff and an amazing Sunday lunch. We will be back!
