Lakeside Cafe in Wakefield

First visit here with a friend who had been before. We only had coffee & sat outside after a walk around Newmillerdam, outdoor seating is rustic & comfy, service was friendly & my caramel latte was one of the nicest I've ever had. Would definitely visit again for coffee & maybe try the cakes/food next time.

Really nice helpful staff, who most of the time are run off their feet. Plenty of choice and nice sweets. Love the breakfast muffin.

The girls that work there are really friendly and rushed off their feet however the place isn’t very clean.. just looks grubby. Had to send glasses back as wasn’t clean. Also… £2.75 for a can of diet coke???? That’s pushing it…

Nice outlook. Only 1 person serving & was up against it and did advise she would be a little while. However once I did have my order taken all was good. A fantastic steak sandwich with salad and coffee was good to and felt relaxed

Cake was delicious tea was not hot and my friend coffee was too cold agood time though service was very good like that they apologised for spills wipe straight a way it was. The ice fàlt not the service as she was great 👍

Shame but probably going to have take this one off our list as had a couple of bad experiences. This morning no almond croissants, no croissants, no fruit tea cakes and no fruit toast despite all been on the menu. Nice staff though.

Absolutely terrible service. Was stood waiting 10 minutes to be seated even though we already had a booking and then left waiting 25 minutes before we walked out. Not one person in 25 minutes came and offered us a drink, which is ridiculous but even more ridiculous when we were sat with two children waiting. Booked for a table of four and was seated on a wobbly table for 3 with a seat pulled over. When I left I informed the lady we’d left and the reason why and she said ok no worries. The fact there was no apology, or an offer for us to sit back down and be served. Baby changing station was also absolutely vile. Could not change a child on there. Very scruffy to say you’re in newmillerdam. I never ever leave a review but feel like this place does not deserve the business. Avoid at all costs.

We went to have a late breakfast the buffet was very appetising. A lovely atmosphere and the service was excellent.

Just utterly appalling. Incredibly rude staff, took over an hour and a half for three breakfasts to arrive and when asked for some more soap and loo roll for the toilet (which was horrible) I was told there isn’t any and to wash my hands with water. I hate to be so hard on an independent business but it’s just shocking. Go to The Boathouse, Dam Inn or Pledwick instead - much better!!

I’ve never left a negative review before however I’ve also never been made to feel the way I did today. If I could leave less than 1 star I would! After going for a walk round Newmillerdam today with our babies, we called into the lakeside cafe. We were greeted by the owner who was clearly unimpressed by the prams. If you can’t accommodate prams then just say, but this clearly had the owners back up from the start. Has my friend was trying to get her baby seated in the highchair the owner continually asked her to move the pram even though she explained she would move it and was trying to ensure the safety of her baby by strapping him in first. Again whilst sorting the babies first the owner came back over to take our order but we hadn’t decided yet so asked for a few more minutes - clearly too much to ask again. I was meeting my other friend elsewhere and hadn’t realised the time and would have to go, the other two ordered. The owner immediately told me how I shouldn’t have come in as we had been seated on a table too big for us and my chair was snatched away as soon as I stood up. On the way out I apologised to the owner and explained I hadn’t checked the time but felt she had been unnecessarily rude to me. That’s when she snapped! She told me it wasn’t a library that I could just use to feed my baby. She proceeded to call me a weirdo for not ordering anything even after I explained and apologised. She then shouted at me as I walked off saying I was cheeky and entitled! My friends that stayed later told me the place was filthy, the tables were black and the baby change was a disgrace!! Avoid this place at all costs, we most certainly will never be returning! And from reading the other reviews, clearly this is just her nature and has no people skills! Disgusting!!

Had delicious pancakes with berries this morning after a walk around the Dam. We are locals but haven’t been for a while but we were not disappointed.

This place is a disgrace. The cafe itself is dirty full of cobwebs , dirty walls floors. Cutlery served in dirty rusted tin cans. Waitress dropped 2 knives , picked them up off the filthy floor and put them back in cutlery box. Staff are miserable and look like they don’t want to be there. Food looked nice but was barely aired when it actually arrived(45 minutes later). I mean scrambled egg on toast dosent take that long. The place wasn’t even full….. Toilets upstairs well that’s another story. Toilet itself was clean 1 unisex toilet to use. The upstairs was filthy. Cupboard doors open full of trash. This place needs a visit from health & hygiene. They will be shut down if they do. I will never go back and would advise people not to go. Save your money. They don’t deserve the custom 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

TREAT WITH CAUTION! Was here on sat, stopped for a quick catch up after our walk. We’d gruffly been told coffee and cake only which was fine for us. Then we had a little wait to be given menus, nothing out of the ordinary. As we were finishing the manager marched in to a table behind us and loudly announced that “no one in her kitchen had dark hair”. Words exchanged with the family on the table, then she marched out. As her announcement was so loud it had interrupted our conversation my friend asked the family if everything was ok. They explained they’d found a hair in the food, had discreetly let them know, they’d not asked for anything, then the manager had accused them of planting the hair because the children had dark hair! My friend and I were at a loss for words. We’d not seen the kitchen staff but several of the waitresses had dark hair. Then during this conversation the manager sweeps in but this time to us asking again loudly and aggressively if we wanted to move tables away from “that family”. My friend challenged her and asked why, the manager replied because they are "talking rubbish to us". My friend responded explaining that she had asked what had happened. The manager looked visibly annoyed that we wouldn’t move let alone we were speaking to them. Again we were speechless. Both tables apologised to each other we were all is disbelief. The Mum of the family revealed that they’d been asked to pay in advance for their meal without explanation. We thought this was strange as we’d not been asked to do that even though we arrived last. The family shared that they felt very uncomfortable, the only difference between the two tables was our first language. My friend and I felt sick as it seemed to appear that the manager was discriminating as the family were Romanian. It was horrid, the children sat quietly and politely as the manager returned again making comments about them being difficult, slamming money down on the table as a refund. The mum again tried to speak to her calmly asking if she realised what had happened, and politely refusing the refund. The manager appeared to listen for a few seconds and finally apologised (hardly heart felt) and then left again. As the family left the manager was still making comments to her staff that could be heard. It was horrid I’ve never witnessed such appalling behaviour in a service environment. We were both impacted, feeling sick. Another member of staff then appeared to us after the family left and apologised to us ‘for them (the family) kicking off’ and brandished the card machine at us. My friend calmly explained that we didn’t want to pay for that experience.. without showing us the bill she disappears and the manager returns already using aggressive language to us threatening us with the police for not paying saying she’d been “warned about people like us”. My friend tried to explain how her behaviour had impacted us and made it a horrific experience but the manager continued with her speech about non payment and that we had to pay and then complain for a refund. At this point I said ok if we can see the bill we’ll pay for the goods but not the service. She agreed and went to get it as we both had phones ready to pay. At that moment another member of staff appears and vehemently spits the words ‘freaks’ at us. This sets the manager off again hurling abuse at us again saying she wouldn’t take our money and ordering us out, she narrowly missed kicking my dog as she kicked the door stop away to slam the door behind us still shouting abuse. They then reopened the door to video us as we left in shock. We were both incredibly shaken by the event. Having worked in the service industry for decades I really can’t fathom how what should have been a simple apology from the staff turned into that horrific scene. Reading the reviews it’s shocking that the behaviour is allowed to continue. Please DO NOT SUPPORT IT I hope the family report her

!! AVOID- EXTREMELY RUDE AND AGGRESSIVE STAFF !! Myself and my friend had the most awful experience after stopping here for a coffee and cake today. We were just finishing our coffees when the owner/manager approached a table behind us with a large family and made a bit of a fuss, it was obvious that she was accusing them of something and being very rude, when she stormed off we asked the table if they were okay? What had happened? They advised us that they'd found a hair in their food and discretely advised the staff (we were sat very close and had no idea that this had happened) and the manager actually brought the hair back to them on a plate and accused them of placing the hair in the food themselves! We were gobsmacked and talked about it a little until the manager returned but approached us this time asking loudly and aggressively if we'd like to move seats? Very confused now we declined and asked why she would ask that, to which she replied that she table behind us was "talking rubbish to us" to which I explained that I'd actually asked what had happened. After more huffing and puffing from the manager she once again stormed out, leaving us sat there in disbelief. The family advised us that they'd also been made to pay in advance for their food, extremely weird as we hadn't been asked to do that? It was so confusing as to why this very polite and lovely family were being treated so differently and it became clear that the manager was actually discriminating against them due to the family's race. The manager continued to come in and out making comments and being rude, slamming money down on their table as a refund for the food, making us all feel extremely uncomfortable. We were left shaking and upset and therefore when the bill came we said we really felt like we didn't want to pay for our coffees after being made to feel so unsafe in their cafe, to which the manager began hurling abuse at us, stating that she'd been "warned about people like us". We were clearly upset and tired to explain that we'd had such an awful experience but she became increasingly more aggressive even when we were staying very calm, saying we had to pay then could complain and ask for a refund, which I am absolutely sure is not the process. Then a young girl came out from behind the manager and said "stop wasting your time on these freaks" to which the manager agreed and shouted at us to "get out". Making us walk through the bar while still abusing us, she then slammed the door on us, called me a "horrible woman" and even videoed us as we walked off in horror, for what reason I honestly have no idea. I have never, ever been treated in such a way or witnessed something so horrendous as the treatment as the family sat behind us. DO NOT GO HERE.

Really poor food & service. Ordered fish'n'chips, the fish looked a frozen one & the portion of chips was insignificant, yet they wanted £16 for it. The food also took half an hour when they're were only 8 people inside. The place was also really filthy, their were cobwebs on the fittings, everything looked dirty and the child changing mat in the toilet looks disgustingly dirty. They also tried putting on an extra 10% service charge, which I refused to pay.

Bit of a mixed bag, really. We went on a Saturday just after the lunch rush. Servers were friendly, although I see what others mean about the manger. Service was quick and the café was a pleasant place. We ordered a couple of deserts, a coffee and hot chocolate. It was generally a nice experience with a few points of improvement needed. The waffle was nice but was 90% ice cream and squirty cream, so felt a bit meh. The ice-cream sunday was lovely but was served on a tea cup saucer, so it was very annoying to eat out of. My partner paid extra for marshmallows for the hot chocolate and was given those big chunky things on the side, not the proper ones you put in a hot chocolate. She wasn't particularly thrilled with that. The table was sticky / tacky and needs a very thorough cleaning. The final thing to mention is that they put on a blanket 10% gratuity fee, on top of already being a bit overpriced for what we got, if im honest, which isn't on as far as im concerned. I tip regularly for good service, and i would have on this occasion too, however, it should be a choice and not an obligation, so I won't be coming back im afraid.

What a rip off!! We got charged £5.50 for a portion of cheese and chips. They added an extra 2 pounds on for a spinkle of cheese. We got 2 portions at the table so they charged us 4 pounds extra for some cheese. The bill comes with the 10% tip included automatically which is not okay and needs to be changed for future customers. Overall - overpriced and we won't be returning. Go to the dam Inn next door instead!!!

I visited here recently with friends, a group of 6 adults and we spent £25 per person. The food was very tasty although very small portions and took 45 minutes to arrive. The biggest disappointment was the managers attitude, it was as though we was a massive inconvenience just being there, lots of sighs and short replies spoiled the visit for us and its not a cheap cafe either. We usually tip well but we paid to the penny on that visit. I would not recommend.

First timers to this hidden gem but definitely won't be the last, everything was lovely from the service to the food and drinks, the traditional breakfast was beautifully cooked, everything was fresh produce and excellent quality, cooked to a first class standard The fruit scones was homemade...... please don't bypass this thinking it was a florist like I did, a nice walk around newmillar damn and finish off in lakeside..... what a lovely outing it turned out to be!!!

Place was freezing when we got there a little run down and dirty to be honest I asked for the full English breakfast an asked if I could have fried bread instead of the black pudding but they could not cook fried bread apparently, took for ever for our food to come but the bacon was cremated, the egg was very snotty, the spicy sausage was odd taste my have been off and boiled mushrooms were disgusting most of the other food was no better god knows how they have got good reviews maybe the cook had not turned in today, certainly not worth the best part of £100.00 we spent needless to say we wont be going very disappointed

We were hesitant to try this place as they had some bad reviews a year ago but I am really glad we made up our own mind because the food was excellent and high quality (especially the full breakfast), reasonably priced, good quick service (although it wasn't very full at the time we visited) and very welcoming. We will be going again :)

This was exactly what we needed today. A dog friendly space with home cooked tasty food, served quickly and with a smile. The wind outside was howling and it was like a little sanctuary. Well placed cakes tempted us to stay for a bit longer too - best decision ever. The scones came out warm and we will be back for afternoon tea in the New Year!

The place was busy on arrival, (popular) but we were seated straight away. Inside was cosy and clean. Service was fairly quick on ordering to receiving drinks and then our food. We ordered the toasted muffin bacon sausage and poached egg with bearnaise sauce. (See photos) It was spot on. Sausages were incredible, bacon was well done, Egg was cooked to perfection, and I was very impressed. We even got a scone with clotted cream and jam, which was also incredible. It is slightly pricier than other places we've been to, but you get what you pay for, even the drinks were decent sizes. If you're walking around NewMillerdam, I'd highly recommend having a pit stop here. 🤌

First of all, I find it quite insulting that you have decided to ignore my earlier private messages. I wanted to give you the grace to resolve the issues I highlighted and resorting to going public and badmouthing you without giving you chance to respond. However, as mentioned above, you have chosen to ignore. Not just because of my issues relating to the quality of the sandwiches, but more importantly because of the overcharge which was indeed £13.09 rather than £12.90 which was the advertise cost! As you have chosen to ignore this message I will have no other option than to take to social media to highlight the situation. The overcharging mentioned above highlights the danger of contactless payments and the ease of being subjected to theft by unscrupulous business people. I keenly await your speedy response! I would be happy to learn that my allegations were wrong!

Well situated for a meal or snack before or after a pleasant walk. Service on the 'relaxed' side, but the food was very good and well priced.

I need to start this saying that the staff are very friendly and welcoming when we went in. Unfortunately the service is painfully slow and the food was really unpleasant. Had fish and chips, no flavour, the fish was leaking water and the chips were skinny fries that were raw... On top of cold mashed up garden peas. I would have complained but after we eventually recieved our food no one came to check the food was ok so we just payed at the bar and left. Didn't want to ask for something else because would have taken too long. It's such a shame as it used to be so lovely.

A celebration afternoon tea for 10 people. Cannot fault it. Everyone had a really lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Always loved this place. Make sure u book. My wife and i had a superb full breakfast and smashed Avocado with poached eggs. Also, loved the great value breakfast bap and tea offer.

First and last visit. Staff do not look clean. Place is not clean. Stairs to toilet not hoovered for over a year. £30.86 for 2 breakfast. Pot of tea for 2 and toast. It's over priced, under cleaned and cannot believe its still open

Been a few times with my partner after walking around newmillerdam. Service is always fast and all staff are really friendly. The food is always great when we’ve visited and is a good price. We usually get cake to take away too and it’s always amazing. Will be visiting again soon :)

Good pace for a breakfast. Clean and prompt

We waited nearly an hour for our food, one meal out of the four turned up once everyone else had finished eating. Requested well done eggs, the eggs couldnt have been any runnier. We asked to speak to the manager when leaving who was extremely rude and sarcastic wishing us a happy new year when we had explained we were unhappy. Not surprising that once we’d left and spoken to other people who had dined here, they also had stories of rude interactions with the manager. Could also explain why majority of the staff look like they dont want to be there when they are managed by someone who seems to only know how to be rude to others. Plenty of better food spots in the area with more enthusiastic staff.

Awful experience with extremely rude staff. Asked for a table of two to be put in the conservatory area. It’s the middle of December and everyone was sat in their coats it was so cold. Waited 15 minutes to even be acknowledged again. The drinks took a further 15 minutes to come. We waited 45 minutes for two eggs on toast and nobody checked on our table within that time. We also ordered a side of halloumi each with came out ten minutes after the main food. The halloumi was stone cold in the middle so we left it. When we were leaving to pay the bill we said please take the halloumi of the bill as it’s cold and the rude manager proceeded to say to us ‘but you ate it didn’t you’. We confirmed that we didn’t and she shouted to the kitchen ‘don’t throw away that halloumi I need to check something’… as if we were lying! Disgusting and will never return. How you can call that customer service baffles me!

Honestly Don't bother... The staff were incredibly rude and seemed to have forgotton any form of manners. My partner paid the bill and said 'Thank you' and didn't get anything back so repeated it to be met with a wall of silence. There's no children's menu...Not an issue as other cafes don't either but they simply do smaller portions...This cafe did the same. We ordered for our 3 year old sausage beans and chips. We got 2 sausages a few beans and about 6 chips and they charged us £6. I was shocked at the price. Eggs Benedict (1 slice of toast, 2 eggs, ham and holendaise...£9.50)...I know times are hard but come on! This is a real shame as this cafe used to be lovely!

We went hoping to sit outside as the cafe states it is dog friendly. There is no complete shade and no umbrellas or anything to increase the amount of cover. We ordered quickly, but our food took over 30 minutes to materialise and they hadn’t made what we ordered. I pointed this out and the waitress said well if you want it changing then it’ll be a long wait because it’s a toastie….. tomatoes don’t take that long when I make them. We decided not to bother and just eat what we had been brought. They gave no apology or offer of a free drink or anything. The bread was very dry like it had been a bit stale before toasted and the fries were very greasy. Really disappointing!!

we had afternoon tea for 2 bought for us as gift voucher last year. all seemed fine until we came to pay using our voucher. we were told we would owe another £10 as the afternoon tea recieved was not the same as the one on our voucher and because we booked online it was different? there was no option to state there was a voucher online and we had tried to ring multiple times to book with no answer. this leads me to believe you don't receive the full afternoon tea when using a gift voucher. the manager was pretty dismissive when we questioned why it would be £10 more so this spoiled the experience for us. we did not pay the extra. customer service definitely needs work. other than this the afternoon tea was nice and we dropped on a lovely day so was nice sat outside in the sun too

Lovely afternoon tea which had been booked in advance. Be sure to tell them you have a voucher when booking though, they wanted to charge us £10 extra. When my daughter asked why, she was told prices had increased since voucher was purchased, When I queried this, owner said I hadn't informed them I had a voucher. I don't understand why this was a problem, the voucher was in date.

Delicious food, super lovely staff, perfect location for visiting after a walk around the lake. I had eggs royale and my friend had the mackerel. Added extras of mushrooms and avocado was no bother. Quick service. Can't wait to go again. If I had one comment for improvement, it would be for a better arrangement for eating outside. There are tables and chairs but they're a bit mismatched for height. But that is really being picky.

I would have left a zero star if possible for this place. Did not realise how scruffy the place was until we moved indoors after ordering. Then the food came…… wish it hadn’t. To be fair my partners was okay, I ordered a cheese, tomato and onion toastie, it came with a drizzle of cheese on top with none inside. When I pointed this out to who I thought was the owner she was very shirty saying‘I saw them sprinkle it on’ to which I replied ‘really? not on this one’ her response ‘whatever’ and walked off. Save your money and go to the pub next door.

Wish I had read the reviews before I wasted £37. -Staff lacking in customer service. Can barely manage a smile. -Fluff or dust on butter and the waitress did not replace. -Breakfast not as described. The bread was breakfast muffin not sourdough. Sauce tasted of vinegar and unedible. Sausages tasted funny. -Table filthy and grimey apaz this is the cleaning products wiping the varnish off. Common sense would be to change the products you are using and buy a cleaning product that is appropriate and not likely to damage the tables and leave wet residue that ended up on my sons arms and my t-shirt. -The whole place dowdy and needs freshening up so does the management. Plaster coming away from the walls. Dark and dusty. Upstairs to the toilets full of junk. - Same music on repeat 3 times. -From the counter you can see the kitchen isnt in much better condition.

The best breakfast in Wakefield!

What a lovely place for food, a jewel next to wonderful newmillerdam. What more could you ask for? I had the full breakfast with sourdough bread, toast, bacon, tomato, mushrooms, sausage, black pudding, beans, and poached eggs. My partner had a vegetarian option with halloumi, mushrooms, spinach, avacado, beans, hash browns, tomato, and fried eggs. I just wasn't keen on the sausage! The cappuccinos were very nice, and the cherry frangipane was a great accompaniment. Everything was excellent, and the staff were so helpful and kind. Thank you, guys 😀

If i could put minus stars i would. Honestly still gobsmacked about today's experience. We went for brunch & asked for white toast on the full english. When it arrived it had a half toasted tea cake on it. We kindly asked for this to be changed as this was not what we'd imagine "white toast" to be. The lady (i believe owner/manager) said "bread is bread & they don't have white toast" we discussed this should of been explained when we ordered & asked for the sough dough bread instead. She went to the kitchen & we could hear what was being said about us. We were made to feel really uncomfortable & my sister became visually upset. She decided we should leave without finishing the meal. She went to the counter and asked for the bill & i went outside with the baby. I could hear shouting from inside & the server saying that we are not welcome back as we were rude customers. At no point were we rude & we paid the full bill as did not want to get into any further disagreement as the prior incident had already spoilt a lovely morning.

Just been for brunch with my sister and baby. Ordered a full English breakfast ask for white toast instead, tea cake came. Ask to swap it. Made to feel uncomfortable of a full cafe. Then she went to into the kitchen which I could hear the remarks that she was making. Then felt that uncomfortable being in there. We left. I paid for our food as the first waitress was lovely. Could see that I was very upset in the situation. I said to the girl that I found her manager rude and would not be returning. Girl behind the counter then started, Shouting at me that I wasn’t welcome back. Like I would want to go back to there. Awful place. Ruined a walk

On Tuesday a group of 6 boys aged between 12and14 came into your cafe for a warm sandwich, only 3 of them had money so they put it all together to buy them all a sandwich finding they only had enough money left for 2 cups of tea which they were going to share but in my grandsons words"the very nice lady brought us a massive teapot and 6 cups" So they all had a drink with their sandwich. I would like to say thank you very much for being so kind the boy really appreciated it, not many people would have done that

A real 'halfway home' surprise for good views of Country Park and excellent dishes served by very lovely people who seemed to care about their presentation of food surroundings and manner

I rarely feel compelled to write a bad review, as I know how much small businesses rely on reputation however this place really deserves it. We booked in advance for my mum's birthday brunch, to secure a good table for 3 of us plus dogs. When we arrived, the hostess (owner?) tried to put us at a small table for 2 people with an extra chair added - this was nowhere near big enough so we asked if we could sit at the vacant large table which seated 6. The surly hostess begrudgingly agreed on the understanding that we would move if a larger group came in. We felt quite uneasy at this point, as if we were causing a problem and I asked, if we did need to move, could we be seated at a 4 table rather than a 2 table. She snapped that there were only 3 of us so no. I really wish we had just left at that point but it was my mums birthday and we were all hungry so we sat and ordered. When the food arrived we were further disappointed. On the £10 traditional breakfast the bacon was rubbery, black pudding undercooked and sausage wasn't very nice. The sourdough 'toast' was soggy bread, hidden under masses of beans. The only nice things were the hash brown and mushrooms. I just couldn't eat most of it (which is very unusual for me!) and explained to the waitress at the end how unhappy I was with it (no one had come to check on us until that point). My mum was also unhappy with her eggs and mentioned this, as well how she had been made to feel unwelcome when we arrived. My sister's scone was nice, which we also made a point of saying. The waitress didn't say much, and came back with a bill for the full amount. I queried this and she said that they had checked the food on my plate and it was fine therefore the full amount was payable. The rude hostess (owner/manager?) wouldn't come and see us, simply relayed this through the poor waitress who was clearly uncomfortable. I was extremely taken aback and paid the bill in a bit of shock to be honest. The waitress came back with our change and then asked us to leave via the side door rather than back out of the entrance where the hostess was. I've never been treated like this at any food establishment in my life and am still in shock that we experienced this. In summary, the food is extremely overpriced for the quality, the hostess/owner is extremely unpleasant and customers are treated with little more than disdain. I truly hope that this woman (if she is the owner) sells the business to new owners who value their customers, as it is a lovely location and the place has so much potential to be amazing. Until then, I will choose anywhere else but here to take my business.

Delicious breakfast and good service

Love the place and menu but the service is a bit of a hit and miss. In addition, it's now been twice we've booked a table and the place was closed.

Little gem of a cafe really. Good service. Lovely tea and cakes. Much more in the menu Mill definitely return.

Excellent food, clean, friendly staff, Dog friendly but I wouldn't sit inside if they were very muddy as they do have soft furnishings and gifts. Maybe go before your walk or sit outside out of courtesy.

Booked for my daughters Baby Shower, looked lovely as we trimmed the room ourselves. Was over priced for afternoon tea at £19.95 you got 4 quarters of a breacake sandwich= 1 breadcake 2 mini sausage rolls scone with jam n cream and 3 tiny bits of cake and tea. We then went on to play a couple of games and then opening of the gifts, at this time we were being cleaned up around us and they were getting ready to close up mopping around us which is bang out of order. No one had the decency to have a quiet word and say they need to clean up and close, had they done that we would have no bother going but to just start mopping around is is awful. We were there from 12.15 and ended up going at 2.45 apparently we only had 2 hours NO ONE stipulated that we had 2 hours for a baby shower or we would not have booked there. None of our party or families will darken their doors again disgusting

Dropped in on our first visit to Wakefield to get something for the kids, only a simple teacake and croissants... was genuinely surprised at the amazing service from welcoming friendly staff, lovely food and interesting building. We ended up walking through the adjacent country park and Lakeside is firmly on the list of places to return to soon.

My friend and I went to the Lakeside for lunch. It's situated in a lovely spot, at the side of Newmiller Dam. Inside is lovely, stone floors and nice décor and furniture. It was very noisy inside though. The music was too loud which then had a knock on effect, as customers then had to talk loudly so they could hear each other. It all seemed a bit hectic aswell and the staff looked fed up. We ordered our food and when it was brought out there was a mix up with my friends order, the waitress apologised and took it back then a mature waitress arrived and berated my friend for the mix up! Unprofessional and very rude! However the food was nice and well presented. I had a sandwich and the bread and filling was lovely. The wine was on the expensive side though £6.95 for a large glass of white. I would go again if I was at Newmiller Dam but I wouldn't make a special journey to go there.

Ordered Hot Dog and Chips which was one of the takeaway items on offer. Paid and waited, then was told Hot Dogs take too long to cook so will be getting sausage sandwich instead. Was not nice quality sausage at all. Chips not much better. Did not eat it all.

Had a lovely lunch today with my husband & daughter. I had the smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich it was really tasty & the bread was really soft & a nice portion of chips with it..my daughter had the egg mayo & my husband had the Tuna & cheddar melt. We were all really pleased & really enjoyed it. The staff were pleasant & friendly & a quick service. Will definitely visit again.

We usually have good service at the Bistro but last time we were quite disappointed. We’ve booked a table and had to wait 40 minutes for our order which would be ok if they haven’t mixed up the orders and served us 2 of our tapas wrong. The same thing happened to the family in the table behind us and to the one in front of us there was something missing in their order. The menu is not as nice as it used to be either. Not sure if they’ve changed management or if they were just not ready to reopen after the lockdown. 🙁
