Had a lovely meal here tonight. Following lockdown it felt perfectly safe and good procedures were in place. A couple of minor mistakes with the food but Joe our waiter put those right promptly. All credit to the lad, he was really polite and attentive. Give the lad a rise.

Large car park on site, wheel chair friendly for most parts, toilets on ground floor, warm welcome from staff on entering, we were shown to our table drinks order taken whilst we looked at the various menus, we ordered the fried goats cheese on toast for starters, roast beef for the main course, followed by desert of sticky toffee pudding & ice cream, and creme brûlée. This was all well cooked and presented well, we would have preferred it if the meal was served a little warmer, the meal was very enjoyable, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. well done to all.

Wow ... Horbury is fast becoming the place to eat ... Ego and The Quarry. We visited as a family with a 2.5 year old. The décor is amazing, the outdoors looks inviting with fabulous views. Better still - for us - it's dog friendly with a designated space inside. Food - all of it was perfect - fresh, quality ingredients and well cooked and presented. The waitress (Jessica) was professional, attentive and genuinely couldn't do enough to help us. The whole experience was wonderful and we'll definitely be back. Thanks Ego for a wonderful birthday meal which, having joined the Ego Club - was free for the birthday girl.

This was our first visit to the new Ego at the Bulls Head, and what a difference! The interior is very modern, very clean, very bright - very nice in fact. The staff were friendly and attentive without being 'in your face' all the time. The a la carte menu is not extensive but caters for most tastes, but it's not cheap! However the Fixed Price 2 course meal for £12.95 is exceptional value. My wife declared the soup to be ok, but a bit bland wereas my rosemary pate was excellent with plenty of toast and a delicious orange marmalade. My wife had the salmon fishcakes which she said were first class and I had a steak with the pepper sauce served in its own little pan. The steak was perfectly cooked, the chips were good and all the food was beautifully presented. £30 for two with drinks - will we be back? You bet we will.

Booked weeks ago for a family meal tonight at 6.30pm. We weren’t seated until 7.15 and all we got as an apology was two free garlics breads only because I moaned I was hungry!! I had the mixed meat kebab well I’d call it a veggie kebab! It was more raw peppers than meat in fact you will need a magnifying glass to find the lamb and steak!!! It certainly isn’t worth the £18.95 it cost me! I certainly will not be going back nor would I recommend it to friends or my worst enemy!!!

We thought we would give it a try as we have not been since being refurbished and on first impressions it looked and the welcome my the manager was very welcoming. We ordered drinks and water she asked would I like still or fizzy I said just tap water will do and then our food, we did say that it seemed very over priced. We were asked would we like olives, we did. But did not come and we got our starters. When taking the order she asked would we like vegetables my dish was made up of veg and I was given did I want them. When the bill came we were charged for the olives at nearly £4 and a bottle of water at nearly £4. I questioned this and she said I drank the water and I said I requested tap water and pointed out that they were brining out jugs of water. I also questioned the veg. Which consisted of 10 sliced carrots and 4 green runner beans at nearly £4 and were nearly cooked. It was a challenging conversation but in the end she knocked off about £17 off our bill. The steak was asked for well done, which it was but inside was bloody. I have to say my starter was really nice and my main meal was just ok nearly warm and with a cold sauce over it was soon cold. There were all very young staff and seamed a shame that they don't have people who have real life skills that would know how to handle situations. Not all customers are right but to argue out the situation it really not on. We will not be going back and certainly will not be recommending it to anyone else

Sunday lunch yesterday, Roast beef with Horseradish. Huge doughy yorks pud, half medium roast potato, 3 grape size pieces of brocolli, 1 bit had some stalk on it but i had to cut it off as it was hard, 3-5 small pieces of hard carrot, and few slivers of ( I think it was parsnip), it was flavourless whatever it was, and some gravy in a little pan, like watery knorr stockpot. 2 small slices of beef which we were told by the waitress that they serve pink, it wasn't, it didn't taste of anything. We booked for 1-30 thinking we wouldn't get a table if we just called in, and the place was half empty. I wish I had read some of the reviews before we went. We also had to ask for the Horseradish which was part of the menu description. We were not aked if we had enjoyed our meal on leaving which was unusual nor did anyone come to the table after we had started our meal to see if eveything was alright. We won't be going back we wasted £22 we went home for a cheese sandwich.

We visited tonight and after hearing bad reviews we were pleasantly surprised. The starters were amazing but instead of being as described the toast was essentially brown toast. Not topped with sundries tomatoes. The mains were good although the stone baked pizza base was a little undercooked and pale. I will definitely eat here again, i highly recommend the lemon chicken and gambas pil pil. The restaurant itself looks amazing after its refurb and the 241 cocktails make it excellent value for money

The Restaurant has recently been taken over by Ego, they have gutted the place and made it more modern. The decor is very relaxed and has a very welcoming feeling. The menu has some great sounding dishes, they have added some great dishes to it. For starter we opted for the Greek sharing platter (Greek Meze) which came with various items including Chicken, Halloumi, Hummus and bread etc, this was a nice starter nothing to grumble about a pretty easy dish to put together and a hard one to mess up. For main I had pork belly, it was cooked well and was tasty, nothing too stand out or spectacular about the dish, the chorizo and black pudding were good additions to the dish, I don't think it warranted the £18 price tag. I think the food is very good at the restaurant but they may need to look at the pricing, I've eaten similar standard food elsewhere for a lot less.

Went for a meal mid-March and on a Tuesday, so was not expecting it to be busy. But when we got there at 7pm it was as busy as a weekend. (this may have been down to the newness or novelty of it just being re-opened)The first thing I noticed was the dark lighting in the part we were in, and another customer commented to a waitress that the lights were dimming on and off, but she could not do anything to rectify it.We ordered our meals and within 30 minutes our starters arrived - prawns. They tasted delicious, however they had a nasty effect on my husband later in the evening. It took an hour for our main course to arrive, which we didn't mind too much as we were talking with other customers, however this is rather a long time to wait for food that only takes 20 mins to cook. So we didn't bother with desert as we didn't want the long wait again. The steaks that we ordered were 2 medium rare and 1 well done. I noticed straight away that the medium rare steaks were thick and chunky, yet the well done steak was very thin - I guess so that it is cooked through the middle and not frazzled on the outside, but disappointing compared to the others. They were giving offers on free drinks as it was opening week, and they said I was entitled to an offer due to it being my birthday but when we got the bill it did not appear to have been reduced. We paid up non the less as we didn't want the long wait again on deciding how much to take off the bill. All in all disappointing, I hope they manage to sort their minor problems out, but more kitchen staff needed for prompt delivery of food.

Can't get much worse! We have never been particularly big fans of the Bulls Head at Horbury but thought we would give it another try in its new guise as " Ego at the Bulls Head" Unfortunately someones ego seems to have run away with them, if they think they can charge exorbitant prices, for very small portions of poorly cooked food, the Andalusian pork fillet being particularly noteworthy of this misdemeanour! This combined with an exceedingly slow bar and restaurant service led to an exceedingly disappointing evening, hence things can only get better!

First visit to the Bulls Head following the change of regime. A busy Friday evening and the place was packed and very noisy. Clearly the table staff and kitchen were under pressure. Time was not an issue for us but the wait for food was lengthy. My Chicken Caesar Salad was well presented and a very generous starter. By contrast the Moroccan lamb was not much more than a dark mush and very disappointing. The food was not over hot and I have never been to a restaurant before where it was necessary to return chips or fries because they were lukewarm. By the time replacements were returned we had finished our meal. Table water requested twice never arrived. The whole experience was a disappointment, but was made worse by the overall cost, and despite a modest bill reduction for our complaint, this did not compensate for average food at exorbitant prices. Our waitress was very friendly but unable to cope fully because the place was so busy. I suspect the problem here is Ego Management! "See you later" said the young waiter as we departed. Sadly it won't be for a while I would think! .

Visited on 18th March as a group of 12, and we were very pleasantly surprised. The old pub has been refurbished, the menu was much better, and we all enjoyed our meals. There were a few minor teething problems, but the staff were excellent, sorted everything out, and insisted on taking the service charge off the bill, (which we gave them back). Young lad Tom split a couple of drinks, but again sorted everything out, and was a credit to himself and the pub. We will visit again.

We were on our way to Leeds and looking for a place for lunch and happened upon the Bulls Head. On the downside my wife first ordered the Camenbert which turned out to be off, she then ordered the prawn cocktail which she felt was a bit bland. Setting is very nice, in a traditional old pub style and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

we've been coming here for years for traditional home cooked food and never failed to please us with the portions of home cooked food and friendly staff . Always in the past we've been asked while eating if the meals we're fine . Our visit today really has put us off and its a real shame as we recommended it to our family members from Macclesfield to meet up. The Yorkshire puddings were frozen puddings and the beef was like boil in the bag ,the Jam roly poly portion was not good, the size of a pack of cards cut in half to make it look like I was getting extra but you could tell it was the last dregs as the jam was solid.Non of the staff asked if our meals were ok , I didn't complain and even when I paid the bill I wasn't asked if I enjoyed it.I think maybe along the lines its lacking somewhere or its been taken over and cutting down using cheaper suppliers. Even though it was very quite staff were unatentive, on a couple of occasions we had to go looking for them. The food, as previous reviewer had quoted tasted like it had come out of a freezer bag, the chicken was extremely tough. It was once renowned for its thick cut home cooked chips....not anymore, box standard chips with many small scraps. My drink was served in an old well used and scratched glass covered in fingermarks. I'm afraid the Bullshead isn't a patch on what it used to be. It is soon to be taken over by Harry Ramsdens, they are apparently taking on board the popular meals in the already existing menu, plus adding their own fish and chips (fish and chips at the Bullshead were better than anywhere until a year or two ago). The existing proprietors and staff are staying. Good luck to everyone there, I'm a local so looking forward to visiting once again.

The pate looked like it had come out of a jar and was bland Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings : pudding flat and hard but the beef had a green hue?? When I pointed this out I was told it's because it was overcooked and such a thin slice that's it's gone a funny colour!!Veg mushy and bordering inedible.Any chef that can allow food to be served and go out like this really dosent care .The lady who we complained to was apologetic My recommendation would be stay away.

I agree with some reviews on here regarding not as good as it used to be but it's still a good pub serving nice tasty food in good comfortable surroundings. Visited for tea one Saturday, hadn't booked but it was very quiet at 6.00 pm when we arrived. I seem to remember the menu a few years ago being quite vast whereas now there is not as much selection but it's still good enough and caters for a wide variety of tastes. Had the goats cheese tart to start which was lovely, followed by a generous piece of salmon in a lovely sauce with new potatoes and carrots and broccoli. This pub has the potential to be nice. It is nicely done out in side and is pleasing on the eye. We went for a family birthday meal. Firstly it is not not Ritz, but neither is it a £4 pie and chips pub, so our expectations were set accordingly.Firstly, the pub was COLD. The heating was not even on when we arrived, which is completely unacceptable. Then onto the food... The order was taken efficiently and everything was looking promising. The staff were polite and friendly. Because we were in early, there were only a handful of diners so we expected the food to be fairly quick.Around 25 minutes to fish and chips, steak and new potatoes and steak pie and chips twice. Seemed a little lengthy but within the realms of acceptable. When the food arrived, the bread was missing from the fish and chips, the steak had chips instead of potatoes and they had forgotten the type of potato that had been ordered with the pie. The potato issue was quickly rectified. At that point we ordered another round of drinks and the missing bread and butter, all of which only arrived 15 minutes later after a reminder. The fish and chips and steak were what I would call OK, although I'm not sure I would pitch them in the £10+ price bracket. The pies however were not what was expected. Advertised as a shortcrust pastry steak pie, they were actually some meat cubes, with gravy and a square of undercooked SUET pastry that was first acquainted with the meat when it was put on the plate. This is not a pie. "A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet or savoury ingredients." Additionally, the meat was in perfect, almost lazered cubes, pretty much as if it had started its life as a left over cooked roast beef joint.Only when we had finished were we asked whether everything was OK. We mentioned the pies and the waitress did not really know how to react. Her supervisor came over and apologised and advised she would take them off the bill. I also separately shared the same feedback I am giving here, so none of this should be a surprise. She did apologise and take off the pies as promised. Not much else could be done to remedy the situation, but unfortunately it left a birthday celebration with a sour taste in our mouths. We will not be returning.

We've passed this pub so many times, but only visited for the first time today. We hadn't booked, it was very busy, but they managed to fit us in. The interior is lovely, and is furnished to a very good standard. I had roast beef dinner, and my husband had the pork. We really enjoyed our lunches. The meats were cooked very nicely, and my beef was so tender, and melted in the mouth. Good selection of fresh veg too. We squeezed in puddings which were also very good! Really enjoyed our visit, and would return!

Went today with our friends Jenny and Barry, a really warm welcome, our reservation was exactly where I asked for, perfect.Tony had a starter, Yorkshire Puddings with gravy, huge, he really enjoyed them. Main course, 3 had Roast Pork and I had the Beef. The Beef was just how I like it, best I have had, it was tasty, tender, lean, perfect. Pork was perfect too, we all enjoyed our meal very much, as always . I have to say I mostly have chicken or fish, but now I will have the beef again, can't believe just how good it was. Thank you to all the staff.

We booked for my sons 18th birthday meal on the recommendation of a friend of my wife. There was 15 in our party and we were impressed with the food. Bar staff and front of house staff friendly enough. The only slight niggle I have is we were advised that we needed to pre order main courses which is fair enough but when we asked to order starters we were told quite rudely that these also had to be ordered (never told this when we rang to book) and the kitchen had already started on mains. The waiting staff could have been more attentive, it appeared that they were more interested in dealing with regular customers rather than first timers. After saying that though it was good home cooked food and we may visit again sometime in the future.

What has happened to the Bullshead? My husband and I rarely missed a week when we didn't go there to eat. That was about 4 years ago. Our last few visits have been disappointing. So much so that during the summer, we were told we didn't have to pay for our food, just drinks, as the food was so poor. I think there is a lot of cost cutting, the standard of food has gone downhill without doubt. We thought we would try it again this week and I'm afraid it will be a long time until we go again. On the plus side staff on front of house are friendly.

On our trip to Wakefield-Leeds, we had dinner at the Bull's Head Wakefield. The food and beer (ale) was excellent. Great chef and nice clean restaurant. However, it lacked the charm of some of the other pubs we went to on this trip. The place was very new. So if you are in the area, it's worth a stop here. However, if you are looking for a pub with hundreds of years of history, this would not be the place for you. Compared to the Sherlock Holmes pub in London or the Old Swan in Kensington, it does not have the same old world feeling you may be looking for.

Visited bulls head to day with family for the xmas fare lunch on arrival no one greeted us even tho we had a table booked we were finally seated after about 5 minutes when the waitress came she was very miserable so on asking us what we'd like we decided on the special xmas fare lunch you could have 2 courses or 3 courses but on looking at the lunch we weren't sure we have any room left for pudding lol so we said can we decided aft didn't see a problem but the waitress was very rude and pressured us into excepting the pudding straight away saying you can't just get the main with out deciding on pud so when that was sorted the food finally came aft a wait even tho it wasn't busy food was OK but not once did she ask if the meals were OK wouldn't recommend this place as staff are rude and food isn't that good

We wanted to take our friends out for a meal without going overboard and they suggested the Bull's Head. While we are always a bit wary of pub grub because so many simply serve pre frozen meals made elsewhere, we were delighted to find that this one prepares its own dishes. A good range of meat and fish and a wine list which while fairly small is very reasonably priced, the pub has a good atmosphere and cheery staff. The service was quite reasonable considering how busy they were - I think it was the last night of a local promotion so there were probably more folk than usual.I would certainly go back if we were in the area again.

We have been here many times as a family group for various celebrations. This time was to celebrate my brother in laws 70th birthday. We always find the staff welcoming and this time was no exception. The food was really lovely and well presented. We had a bit of a wait between courses but find this is better than being rushed. There were 15 of us so only to be expected. I had called in the day before with a few requests and each one was carried out. Could not fault it. Thanks for a lovely afternoon. We will be back.

Dropped into the Bull’s Head for a quiet lunch with my wife, a place we’ve been to many times before.Located on the Horbury bypass this pub/restaurant is great for a leisurely, casual lunch or dinner. The food was as you’d expect from a good British pub/restaurant, plentiful, hearty, but not basic. Service is always good and wait time from ordering is kept to a minimum too. However, if you’re looking for fancy dining then I’m afraid this is not the place for you but if you want good home cooked British pub food at a reasonable price and a friendly atmosphere then give the place a try.

Regularly visit this restaurant for either lunch or evening meal. Like the choice of a light menu or full menu. It's good to have the option as sometimes the main courses can be too filling (for my wife) I recommend the lakeland steak. Recently took a family group and booked a table for 7 people. Disappointed that they didn't have the booking in their list, fortunately it was quiet and they quickly arranged a table for all of us. Everyone commented on the quality of the meal and all enjoyed the day with friendly helpful staff.

Been here a few times this year and food has always been of a good standard.. However you do have to ask for more vegetables if you have the Sunday lunch. On our visit today I decided to order something different and decided to have the beef burger with added cheese.Upon arrival of the meal it looked gorgeous.. plated on a large board with home cooked chips and onion rings.. all was well until I cut the burger in half to be presented with pink meat.. I'm not one for rare meat and especially not in a burger!! It was soon sent back and the waitress was extremely sorry and took it back and said would get another sent out.The other 3 people I was with was nearly finishing their Sunday lunch and still no sign of my burger so not to hold anyone else up I asked for the meal to be cancelled.. just as I said it she brought it out and was soon sent back.Again the waitress apologised and offered a pudding on the house in which I politely declined as not having a main meal didnt feel like having a dessert.I was looking forward to some decent pub grub but on this occasion was left feeling disappointed.I will return but not any time soon

Booked a table for ten for our sons 19th birthday. We were welcomed by friendly smiley staff, and shown to our table. The food we ordered came out piping hot and was delicious. We had starters, mains and desserts and could not find a negative thing about any of them. The staff even took my sons birthday cake away and all came back to sing happy birthday to him. What a lovely, homely, welcoming place. The staff are all a credit to the Bulls Head

New menu and they have taken off the hot sandwiches that I loved, that apart, I ordered steak baguette which is served with side salad and chunky chips. As most of the side orders were £2.50, including chips, and onion rings, I asked if I could swap the chips for onion rings and was told no, but was told I could swap them for potatoes. As I don't eat any potato products at all I had to have my meal served with the chips and pay £2.50 for a portion of onion rings. If we hadn't already got drinks we would have walked out.

We have driven past the Bulls Head hundreds of times but not been in till this year. It was one of our 'old friends nights out' and not our turn to choose the venue (pressure off dept), I was pleasantly surprised by the Bulls head, the service was good, not too to wait, I chose the Cajun Chicken which was hot (in both ways) and very tasty indeed. It has a comfortable and homely atmosphere. Some good beer but they could add some more real ales to the beers menu I think. Prices were reasonable.

Called in here for lunch as me and my partner like to try new places. We were sat at a table, service was quick and efficient. We ordered a sandwich and chips for £6.50 which is expensive but its very filling and we love our food and portions. I would choose that again and happy to pay the same. Puddings were £4 and £5 and the sticky toffee pudding was lovely, the brownie got sickly towards the end. The younger staff are happy and friendly however the older (probably head waitress) was quite pretentious and patronising i felt like if you werent a regular and your face didnt fit it was an effort to help you. My only issue was the fact it was £3 for a glass of lemonade which i felt was quite expensive. Would retuen at tea time to have a proper meal.

It is usually best to book a table, especially on a weekend as it can get very busy.Although there is not a big choice for the kids the menu is quite good. They will cater for children's request/taste as my daughter did not want onion gravy on her meal so they were quite happy to bring her some normal gravy.Although it's a little more expensive than some other pub/restaurants the food is usually quite good and the staff are friendly and helpful.

We went to the Bull's Head for the first time in a few years for my husband's birthday. They were sadly out of the ox heart but we went for the ribs, mediterranean chicken, anchovies, sea bass on crushed new potatoes and beef tomatoes with feta, basil and olives. Every aspect was a delight, not just due to the delicious bottle of Prado Rey, honestly, although that was great too.

Went on a Friday lunch time and the place was nearly full. This tells it's own tale. I had steak pie and it was lovely served with plenty of fresh, warm veg. My wife had gammon and it was a lovely thick lean piece. We ordered from the light bites menu and the portions were more than enough. Also shared a dessert of Jam roly poly as it was such a big portion. Only complaint I could make was that one lady had to take all the orders, so we had to wait far too long to order. But it was worth the wait in the end thankfully. We will be back.

Visited here on a Sunday afternoon for mums 70th birthday. Despite table being booked and place being quiet table wasn't ready when we arrived. Then when taken to it there was food and mess on the floor from the previous users. Not a good start. Then took 30 mins for the food order to be taken and another 45 for it to arrive. Then we had to chase the side orders and chips for 4 of the 9 meals. However have to say despite all of this everyone said their meals were great. We had a mixture of sunday lunches chicken burgers lasagne gammon and 3 pork combo. The diane sauce with the pork was stunningly good. Only 5 took desert but everyone said they were superb esp the rocky road. So overall would we go back. ...definetly. .....For all 9 of us including drinks (bottle of wine include ) it was under £140. So you can't fault the value. Would have been 5/5 but the initial problems mean it has to be 4/5. Hopefully on our return it will be full marks.

This is a real shame as the building is great. However the service is slow at best, we finished our 1st drink then i decided to go to the bar to ask for someone to come and take our food order. The starters were OK. The mains were £14 and £12 and they were no more than cheap watery tasteless microwave meals. I would have preferred a plate full of chicken dinosaurs and smiley potato faces. I will not be going again and will be telling everyone i know not to go. It was day light robbery. A disgrace.

On the main A642 Wakefield to Huddersfield road. A very well laid out restaurant with three separate areas for dining. Lovely real fires in winter the place is spacious, relaxing and comfortable. The starter menu offers a wide choice such as Goats cheese tartlet, Sweet and Sour prawn,Smoked Chicken and bacon salad, Chicken liver pate, a large Yorkshire pudding filled with onion gravy and Fried Brie etc.Mains include traditional Fish and Chips, beef lasagne, Lamb Devonshire, Gammon steak, stroganoff and braised Pork and my favourite a Trio of Fish. My wife and I have eaten here quite often and would recommend it. Best tip for Friday through Sunday book to avoid being disappointed.

I have been to this pub a number of times over the years for various special occasions and every time I have been blown away by the incredible food and service.Today my partner and I came for lunch for our 2 year anniversary. We ordered from the "light lunch" menu which was incredible value, we ordered a starter and a main for less than £10 each! The food was amazing, really traditional home cooked food, it took me back to my childhood when my Nan used to cook real hearty meals. The veg was fresh and cooked to perfection. I had steak pie which was made with very good quality steak, no fat or gristle, the gravy was made with real meat juices and chunks of beef - they gave us plenty. For £6.95 the meal was fantastic value. My partner had the grilled pork steak which he absolutely loved along with the seasonal veg.The staff were so friendly and attentive. It really is a gem of a pub which we highly recommend and will certainly be visiting again.Proper hearty home cooked food is hard to come by nowadays.

Me and my wife visited this establishment after seeing this beautiful pub , the staff were very friendly and we ordered our drinks then we gave our food orders my wife ordered scampi chips peas and I ordered the chargrilled pork steak with veg and baby potatoes then Me and my wife always share our chips and baby potatoes between both of us when we go for meals this is always the case , When our food arrived we were dissapointed with the look of the food but hoped it would taste nice HOW WRONG COULD WE HAVE BEEN ! The baby potatoes were tinned potatoes even though when we complained about the food and the baby potatoes the waitress said and I quote "EVERYBODY THINKS THERE TINNED POTATOES" but the potatoes have been in a rumbler to take the skins off she said which we replied "we have never heard that before" and the waitress only apologised for the rest of the food and my wife has worked in the restaurant business for over 20 years and we have eaten out regular for over 20 years and never come across baby potatoes like this , these were tinned baby potatoes FACT even the elderly couple sat next to us said that they thought they were tinned potatoes as well ! The chips were halfed cooked the veg was overcooked and tasted like last night's leftovers ,the peas were cold and the scampi and pork chop were very basic , such a shame as we were so looking forward to eating at this establishment . Would not recommend anyone to eat there .

My food was cold. I didn’t even get a full slice of meat, the tiniest bit of gravy, the mash potato still had pretty much a whole boiled potato in it not mashed, and 5 huge roast potatoes. The whole thing was a disgrace. Won’t ever order again. Such a waste of money.

This chip shop used to be really nice but just had fish and chips and they were the worst I've ever had. Chips were chewy, fish was dry and tasteless and batter well soggy and not crunchy.
