We found this place today via the Trip Advisor reviews and we’re SO glad we went. Dropped in for a Friday lunch without a reservation and we were lucky to get a table. Next time we’ll book! Stunning menu (combination of the printed menu and an array of specials boards with all sorts of interesting offerings). All the food we saw going out looked amazing. And our meals were no exception. We shared a pate starter as the mains looked substantial. And then chicken supreme and the rabbit and ham-hock pie. Both absolutely perfect. Service was excellent and friendly. Location is beautiful. An extensive wine list too. Can’t fault anything! I’m 62 and consider myself a bit of a foodie. I can honestly say I’ve never had a better pub meal than this. We’ll be back for sure!

Visited today as family of 4, cosy and clean, great menu, delicious food, great service. And a great price too R&C recommended by numerous people, lives up to their reputation and delivered a superb meal. Great service; really good to have experienced, confident staff. Great to be able to chat about the food and where it comes from and the history of the family and pub. Can’t fault it, a REALLY good experience. Great to see a pub/restaurant thriving and busy. Long May it continue. Thanks everyone at R&C for a great Sunday lunch. .

We stopped here after a walk in the peaks on a chilly late afternoon without booking and managed to get a table, which we were very pleased about. It was a very cozy little pub. We got seated outside in a room at the back, service started off well, but then it did feel as though we were a bit forgotten about towards the end as we waited quite a while for our plates to be cleared. Food was nice, we both opted for a roast dinner, tasted nice, veg was just boiled. Dessert your average pub grub but still nice. I’d probably score it more a 3.5 if it had the option, as food was good but I usually have higher standards for a roast dinner, but it was nice just not to be the one cooking it for a change.

We'd been away and where else to end a lovely weekend other than at the Rose and Crown. My other half often mentions their cheese pie and on this occasion, I plumped for the steak pie. We hadn't booked so called them last minute around 4pm and we were in luck. Relaxed ambience, great view from our table at the window. Food is pub 'fine dining' really, everything is home cooked and the chips were delicious. Nice bottle of Red, well priced. Chat with the landlady, Luda, when settling up, what a character, always makes me chuckle. I WILL try and manage a dessert next time. Perfect evening. Back soon.

A lovely drive to this beautiful, friendly, traditional, country pub. Fabulous, elevated, set back from the road garden if you want to sit out. A great menu with a mixture of British and Mediterranean pub food. All our 7 starters and dinners were fantastic. Freshly cooked to order, good sized portions. The landlady was lovely and made us very welcome. Highly recommended. ** Note: Pub open, though Bosley crossroads junction was closed when we visited in late July. We went via Byrons Lane, off the A523. **

What a delightful pub, like a previous reviewer we had got lost in the shadow of the Raches, which made the approach even more spectacular The welcome was friendly, immediate and heartfelt. The fixed and daily special board menus were choc a bloc with appealing choices. We both started with a prawn and crayfish cocktail - an absolute delight My wife passed on the main course, and I chose the Pork belly and black pudding tower - an enormous flavourful plate of good old-fashioned comfort food. We had arrived with good intentions about not having dessert but when the list of homemade desserts was read out to us we both capitulated with our choices of Lemon parfain and fruit crumble. these again were amazing We left feeling comfortably full and absolutely delighted by the quality of the food we had eaten Do visit and prepare to be delighted

Popped here Saturday afternoon and was surprised to find such a lovely large beer garden out the back with fantastic views from the elevated position. We only popped in to have a wine or two whilst out cycling but after seeing the specials board and the menu we decided to have something to eat. We had the mussels and the smoked salmon and crayfish starters both fantastic and very good portion size and lovely (what looked like homemade bread) bread to mop up the sauce with. I then had the fillet steak wellington which was delicious. Really nice house white Sauvignon Blanc which was excellent with the seafood. Very dog friendly also would highly recommend

Actually, we stopped here on our way through only because my little daughter had an urgent need to see a bathroom. BUT what a stroke of luck: We are German tourists and can't praise English pub culture enough. And the Rose and Crown was pub heaven for us. A great location, a wonderful house, a very friendly welcome. The lady behind the counter served us with a smile, had kind words for everyone and made us feel very welcome. Only drama: we arrived outside of kitchen hours, so we were able to admire the terrific daily menu - but the kitchen was closed. What a string of wonderful dishes was written there. We briefly considered staying until evening to try everything - but we had to move on. Really a pity! But this pub alone is reason enough to come to the Peak District again. Then we stay here for a week and feed us from top to bottom through the map! Thanks for a nice afternoon, a real recommendation!

Very friendly welcome. Lovely atmosphere. Staff and owners were very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. We ordered goats cheese and soup starters. Looked amazing. Nice and hot and stayed that way. Tasted unbelievable. Ordered rabbit and ham hock pie and cheese and onion pie. Literally everything homemade and presented beautifully. So much effort into presentation ( rabbit added to pie crust, carrots cut into flowers) Once again, tasted amazing, stayed nice and hot throughout. Portion size was perfect. Pies were full of filling. Was devested I was too full to get a dessert, but we will definitely be back. Value for money as less than £60 for 2x 2 course meals and 4 drinks. Honestly the best food I've ever eaten.

We shared the cod and chips, moist tasty fish and tasty chips all home made, and the chicken supreme au poivre which we also had on Saturday as it was so good! Then we shared a scrumptious spotted dick and it was cooked in the traditional way with custard and ice cream and fresh fruit,

Needing a meeting place mid-way between us and our daughter, found this pub on the web. Hard work to get to from the Macclesfield direction with typical Peaks winding road s up and down hills, the drive was worthwhile. We chose to arrive at 4pm with a reserved table and entered a warm, friendly traditional bar. The staff were all friendly despite being busy. Drinks arrived promptly and we chose a variety of meals. The portions were Jekyll and Hyde, with the starters and desserts of an adequate but not over-generous size, with the main courses leaning towards the "can I have a doggy bag" portions. We all had whitebait for starters - well cooked, with some salad. Beef and lamb roasts were declared excellent and the mushroom risotto disappeared at speed into the veggie. I had the pheasant pot roast - wonderful flavours, lots of bird with vegetables hiding underneath. While it was shear greed, three of us had the home made sponge pudding with honey sauce and honeycomb ice-cream; a light ginger flavour made it perfect.Chatty friendly ladies, a return trip beckons

It was only when I rang to try and reserve a table for Sunday lunch that I discovered the owners used to have The Hanging Gate. I understood the chef worked there but that's all I knew. Anyway I recognised the lady's voice, she is a real character. Apparently they took on the pub in a state of disrepair but now it's a warm cosy pub with a vibrant atmosphere. We all had the roast lamb which came with a nice Yorkshire pudding and good vegetables. We sat by the log fire, just being made again and really enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent and we'll be back soon for sure.

Visited here for a friend’s birthday lunch. We have passed the inn many times but never eaten there. We were the only six guests....it is the middle of winter.....but another couple came to dine later. We were made very welcome and were amazed at the extensive menu. There was something for everyone including a very fussy eater. The daily specials board included several mouth watering dishes, this was in the bar area away from the restaurant itself. I opted for the rabbit and ham hock pie which was superb. Treacle Parkin to follow and I was in seventh heaven. The young lady who looked after us was great, nothing was too much trouble and she was very helpful. We managed to thank the chef personally for an excellent lunch, everything was home cooked to perfection.Prices are mid range, we all felt the food was value for the money. We will certainly return as soon as possible.

6 adults 2 kids and 2 dogs had been for a walk at Luds Church and decided we would try and find a bite to eat on the way home. We called in on the off chance of there being a table free on Sunday afternoon to our surprise they made room for us in the back. The Staff were friendly and helpful.I had a Beef Sunday Dinner which was great the meat was fantastic and the gravy was even better.Others had Pie and Chips, we complained there wasn't a lot of chips so they brought us some more without any hesitation. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their meals and we will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Overall a lovely country pub and a great Sunday dinner.

A great place to eat after a walk to Lud’s Church just down the road. Food was delicious and the menu interesting. Log fires, cosy tables and stunning views add to the charm.

We were local to the area and looking for an evening meal on New Years Day and having read some of the reviews we thought we'd give the Rose and Crown a go. After driving through the cold, dark and foggy Peak District to the pub we were greeted by an open fire and a festive decorated pub, much needed. We skipped starters and went straight for the mains where we had the lamb, steak and ale pie and childrens fish and chips. All meals were cooked to perfection, were delicious and were good portions too. After the mains we ordered desserts, which were made up of home made lemon ice cream and bakewell tarts, again all fantastic.I can't recommend the food enough in this establishment and will definitely be returning, many thanks.

Excellent tapas and good chatty service. Neighbouring table conversation perhaps a little too interesting! Dessert was fun.

Had a lovely night. Food was to an exceptional although not always piping hot. Staff extremely friendly and attentive. Would definitely go again probably on a Wednesday or Thursday night when your own drink can be taken. Although the 10% service charge is discretionary I'd prefer it's not automatically added and leave a tip of my choosing.

One of the nicest dining experiences we’ve had in a while , we spend a lot of time eating out across Manchester and the surrounding area , I’d previously visited the Church inn and recently found out about the Roebuck , the service was great really friendly , laidback and attentive, the atmosphere even on a quiet Monday evening was really nice , beautiful decor and cosy country pub vibes, with the star of the show being the food everything we ordered was exceptional and we will be returning with friends and family, my new favourite place to dine and relax.
