I had the pie of the day which was mince and onion but that is not what i got. It was filled with stringy brisket, it even included a length of actual string. My companion ordered the fish and chips which was very good but for dessert had the fruit crumble. The topping was oats and not actual crumble so not very nice. We won't be returning

I have been to the Rose and Crown many times over the last few years. Maybe they have someone new in the kitchen but the food wasnt a patch on previous visits. I ordered fish and chips. The fish was over cooked. The batter was a very dark brown instead of golden. My friend's goats cheese and beetroot pie was uninspired. I suspect this may have been my last visit. Shame.

Expensive, small portions,poor quality, overcharged AVOID chicken curry needed a spoon so watery no flavour, massive bowl green beans , tiny riot marinated or flavoured grilled chicken size of a sparrow, plonked on top. all staff trained to say…it’s the style of the curry it’s a broth..so must receive complaints on this dish.No description to state watery - all sauces should coat the back of a spoon not run off it!! had a shandy charged fir a pint! very disappointed

Had booked earlier in the week as meeting up with family. Easy to locate, clear parking. Warm friendly establishment with warm welcome. Good menu with choices to suit all tastes. Drinks and food arrived in good time and presented well, tasting good. Good relaxed environment led to an excellent lunch.

Outstanding welcome accompanied with consistent, friendly, professional service. The food was excellent. seasonal, flavoursome, respectable portion. Every element of the evening was simply superb. The significant thing about the Rose and Crown is it is consistent always and the ambience is always so welcoming. Staff are just lovely and the menu is always appealing. Highly recommend .

Went for a meal this evening and the starters of haddock gouging were lovey but it was downhill after that . The sea bass although itself was nice but very small portion but the potato cake was horrible. Oredered veg but it was cold The waitress brought us a portion of chips to make up fir this but they were awful really dry and stsle tasting The crime fraiche which at £9.00 was expensive but was very thick and not nice either To top it iff we ordered floater coffees which were almost cold . So disappointed after spending £208.00 as most of it wasn't nice at all

All our food had been taken fresh from the fridge, and so had no flavour or texture. Even my espresso was barely warm The service was average. One server actually leaned across us to get our plates without even smiling or speaking to us. There was nothing wrong with any of it, but there wasn't much right either.

Called in here by chance didn’t have a booking. Place was busy but they still found us a space and the staff were great. Really good food. I saw haggis on the menu and had to have it. It did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend. This is likely to be a new favourite.

Had a delightful pub lunch with our little one here, sitting in the beer garden. The food was very good. The beef brisket is highly recommended with all components cooked beautifully and the cheese burger hit the spot too. We were well looked after from as soon we came in and the table service was exemplary.

Friday night date night at the rose and crown. Perfect evening. Enjoyed lovely fish cakes starters followed by delicious mains and even had room for dessert. Staff as helpful as always. Thank you and will be back soon

Booked a table here as we had heard good reports. Sadly we must have gone on an off evening. First of all the menu was not the same as the one shown on line. l opted for sirloin steak (medium). When my meal came it looked very nice, sadly it was not. The steak was rather bloody rather than medium. When l cut into it l had to saw through it rather then cut it. It was so tough it actually broke my front tooth. l complained to the staff and they were very apologetic and helpful. When the bill came l had not been charged for my meal which l was happy about. The staff are good and the pub is very popular, however we will not be returning.

Fantastic meal (beef brisket), great pint of cask ale and great service. Lovely setting too. Not the cheapest food but well worth the extra couple of quid per plate. Will be back.

We visited as a family group on the Sunday afternoon as a celebrations of my wife’s birthday. We spent 3 hours there . We were only asked about drinks once . We wanted a starter , main and desert courses. Seeing how busy it was we decided to scrap starters as nothing was arriving at any of the tables around us. We waited over an hour for our main courses. We only had a main which by their usual standards was acceptable but some were certainly not good enough at the price. After that nobody came to clear the table - for 45 minutes. No one offered to take a drinks order or take a desert order at all. So we decided to to give up on them as the 3 hour mark arrived. Overbooked - understaffed and failing to deliver. It’s a recipe for how you go out of business! I hope they get it sorted as they are nice people and were very apologetic , but at the prices they charge apologise don’t really cut it. It will be a while before/ if we return.

The staff both waiting-on & bar staff are lovely & very efficient. The service was very quick. However although we did enjoy our meal we both agreed it was not quite as good as the last time we were there, a good few months ago. The chips were always very good but like everywhere else they now buy them in ready. I realise this is time saving etc but I did love the ‘proper’ chips. Maybe they will go back to them when they get a new chef as advertised.

Turned up during the break of food service but still got drinks lovely staff nice homely feel and great prices would definitely visit again and book first to avoid disappointment the food coming from the kitchen smelled delicious

Booked a week in advance for December 27th, 1pm. I'm glad we did as it was busy, I'm not surprised due to its reviews being very good, and the pub having that nice olde feel We both opted for a festive 2 course lunch at £25 each The chilli chipolatas starter was tasty. My friend had the prawn cocktail And the main course was plentiful, Turkey, mash, roasties, yorky and 3 pigs n blankets maybe a little more veg would have been great, enough for 1 person i thought, but it was served by smiling waitress, who checked on us later to see if we were happy with our food. We were both full up and happy. I would definitely recommend it, and I'll be coming back again soon

Booked in May 23 for December 23 and selected our table. Got there and someone else had the table. Good enough, they moved them to another table. Food was only ok. Staff behind the bar were great, friendly and efficient. Table staff were not so good sadly. They just dropped the cutlery in a pile on the table, made hand gestures to give them the plates when the collected them. Weren’t very friendly. The crowning glory was the horrendous rip off drinks prices. Pure profiteering at £6.20 for a pint of lager. Sadly we won’t go back.

We came with friends (book ahead it’s very busy). Lovely old country pub with fantastic food. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff were amazing. Entertainment in the evening too.

We had a family meal here this week, the only negative point is the price for the drinks, £6,20 for a pint of lager is a bit steep, medium wine £7,25. If the drink prices were cheaper I would have given them 5 stars. Positive points Very friendly staff, lovely log 🪵 fire, tasty food not badly priced. Varied menu which I believe offers a choice for anyone. Our food was a delight, well presented with good flavours. We met for Lunch to remember my recently deceased husband and I couldn’t have asked for better food or service.

Classic British country pub, beautifully overstuffed with ornaments, clocks and the like. You are so welcomed on arrival, you feel like a regular. Friendly knowledgeable and cheerful staff present an excellent, varied and changing menu supported by a decent wine list. Great food, good value and lovely ambience.

I live 45 minutes away and after driving past this pub dozens of times for must be 40 years, 5 of us had Sunday lunch today. We were warmly greeted by the two guys who run it and the rest of the servers were friendly and very efficient. Unfortunately the pub was busy and we were put into the Covid Built Annex that has been upgraded, which is a bit isolated. But the Sunday Roast Beef Dinners and Sausages were superb, no complaints at all. We were full so all we had was a few drinks and coffees. Our only complaint would be at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, the pub has a lot of families with young children and the noise levels are not great. We had to shout to hold a conversation. Would we go back, yes, but not at 2pm on a Sunday.

We moved to Tarleton last year and have been trying all the local recommendations to find the perfect local sunday lunch.... today we found it..! Lovely place, great atmosphere and really friendly service and the food was superb. We went tonight as a family of 4. Staff are very attentive and welcoming. The pub was busy. Saying this the staff were very quick and checked in woth us numerous times whilst eating to ensure that everything was ok and asked if we neede dour drinks replenishing. The atmosphere of the pub is really nice lovely cosy decor. Large area for kids to play in the back with a football nets and a small climbing frame with swings. We didn't use this as the weather hasn't been great but I can see it would be a nice place to have a few drinks if the sun was shining. The goats were super friendly aswell and a hit with my youngest son. The food was outstanding. Had a lovely roast beef dinner with all the trimmings the star of the show for me the roast potatoe! Lovely and cripsy and fluffy on the inside with tons of flavour. My son got the regular fish and chips and the fish was HUGE! Partner got the chorizo Lasagna which was on the specials and said this was also very tasty! Younger son got the kids burger which looked really nice also. I would definitely be returning in the future and also recommending to family and friends. I would definitely recommend booking in advance as it seems to be a popular place to eat on a Sunday.

We recently held a family party in the funtion room to celebrate a 70th birthday. Tom and Craig couldn't have not been more hospitable and welcoming. The food was fantastic and the attention to detail was second to none. The staff were always on hand to remove empty glasses and maintain the room whilst constantly refreshing the buffet. A massive thank you for making this such a wonderfully day/evening. Without doubt we would hold any future events at this fatastic venue. Can't wait to return very soon. Thanks again.
