We held my dad's life celebration at the Roman Camp this week following his funeral, and we couldn't fault it. The staff were amazing, so friendly and looking out for us. It was such a lovely ambience and the food was fantastic, which was so important to us as dad was such a foodie. We had the afternoon tea and added some bucks fizz on arrival. The food is all made on site and you could tell. Thank you so much for making a difficult day still a lovely one.

Over the summer we’ve been here quite a few times for Sunday lunch & also dinner on Saturday evenings and it’s been consistently good, even when we’ve been later in day (it’s one of the few places where Sunday roast is served into the evening). Last Sunday we sat out in the beautiful garden. Each time, the service has been good and the food delicious and especially love the summer pudding - my favourite!

Fantastic food sadly poor service. Meals preordered. Children had to wait causing distress despite asking for their meals to be served first. Large group and those who had starters had their main meals before those who hadn’t which included the children. Children’s deserts ice cream so easy to serve still last to be served. Not fair on a 3 year old. For that reason would not recommend for families with children. No water on the table or offers. Very disappointing

Went here before COVID and had a lovely meal in soft armchairs in front of a roaring open fire. Decided to go again, same time of year but 4 years later and was quite disappointed to find the lovely bar area completely deserted with no fires lit. We were sat in the dining room, which is lovely, but we were on a little table for two near the entrance so not very relaxing or cosy. No where near as lovely as the bar area. There was a wake going on at the same time in the conservatory, but this didn’t seem to affect service which was very good and friendly. I had the steak and kidney pudding which was just amazing, I know trying to repeat an experience can be risky, but it was just like I remembered it. More gravy would have been nice. My husband had fish and chips but was a bit disappointed with his meal. The batter was very pale and he said it was undercooked in places and the chips were also very pale, a bit hard and not very tasty. He likened them to cheap oven chips. The actual fish was very good though. We didn’t have pudding because we simply could eat any more. I really hope the bar with the fires were not in use because they were dealing with a wake, it would be a real shame if that’s what it’s like all the time. Might pop back soon to see if the bar area is back in action again.

We have always enjoyed dropping into The Roman Camp for a drink or a meal, but this was the first time we had stayed. The comfy, well equipped room and the delicious, beautifully presented meals were excellent, but above everything were the warm welcome and the friendly, helpful people who run and staff the inn that made our stay so special. Thank you.

Just returned from a lunch at the Roman Camp Inn. Saw it the day before when passing and thought it looked nice. We had lunch in the beautiful, bright and spotless conservatory, which looked new and was very large but welcoming. The service was excellent and the food was exemplary. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Both meals were very well cooked and the presentation was lovely. Would thoroughly recommend.

We ate here several times during our stay in Aylmerton. The food is excellent, the service is faultless and the inn itself is beautiful, a really nice ambience. The steak and kidney pudding is to die for, perfect winter comfort food. All the dishes we had (haddock and chips, burger, chicken supreme, lamb rump and the OMG steak and kidney pudding) were excellent, first class ingredients and expertly cooked. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. Would thoroughly recommend.

The food was good (exception below) and the restaurant and gardens were lovely. The service however left much to be desired. As a rule I am uncomfortable making any complaint but when you see later arrivals being served their food first (4 other tables) and waiting 55 minutes for 2 meals, in a reasonably quiet restaurant. (7 occupied tables) I did feel we couldn’t leave without raising our observations. And if dealt with satisfactorily this review would have been better. I did raise issues with the waitress who said she was in charge of service but only received ‘I don’t know’ or ‘I was on my break’ as responses. I gave up trying to resolve our problems. Sadly lacking in customer relation skills. The roast beef dinner ordered by one of the party had 50% fat on in it. Please see photo below. This point was not addressed satisfactorily either (ie will charge you 50% or free drink or coffee) but with ‘I will tell the chef’. I wasn’t looking for free meals but some acknowledgement that they had failed to meet reasonable expectations of a dining experience.

Stopped here as it was en route to our destination. It’s more catered for the older generation but they do have a kid’s menu which satisfied our two. Service was good, food was lovely. Not your cheapest of meals but it was value for money in our eyes. Drawback was that it was on a busy trunk route so turning towards Cromer took some time. Certainly worth a stop though if you fancy a change from fish and chips!

We had a fantastic afternoon, catching up with family over lunch and drinks. The food was amazing, three portions of warm sausage rolls with a side salad and onion jam, one cheese and pickle sandwich with salad and fries and one duck wrap with salad. Not a scrape of food left on the plate. We had drinks of beer, larger orange and pomegranate and water. The grounds we lively full of colour and wild life. Although not the venues fault, we were in the countryside but two many wasps. The hospitality staff were great, Hayden Wells, was our attendee and served us well, nothing was too much trouble. Tables were clean, well spread out Dogs were welcomed, as long as you cleaned up after them, dog bin provided.. Good wheelchair ♿️ access to the lower lawn and into the hotel itself, not sure about the high part of the garden. Although the pond had access. The downside are no umbrellas to keep the sun off. We changed tables a couple of times, due to the sun attacking me. I have to keep in the shade. Will be back again. Well done everyone.

We popped in as we were passing, so glad we did! Dogs (except assistance dogs) aren’t allowed indoors, fair enough, so we sat in the beautiful garden. It was raining when we arrived, but luckily there were a couple of open sheds with table and chairs. The menu has plenty of choices, OH had welsh rarebit, which looked and tasted delicious. I opted for afternoon tea; wow, it was absolutely yummy! The finger sandwiches were packed with filling, excellent selection of (not so) mini cakes and two homemade scones which were accompanied by homemade jam. All of the staff were friendly. The young lady who served us was really lovely and very friendly. Definitely recommend, and hope to pop in again!

The selection of gins and beers are very good. We had a meal one night. My husband's male was outstanding. He had the duck to start and the lamb was rostto for his main. However my meal was very mediocre. The chicken liver pâté with onion chutney was tasteless. The fish and chips were very basic. I would have expected thick cut chips and homemade mushy peas. The chips were Mediocre along with the garden peas. This is definitely a place to visit. The outside garden is amazing and presently they are building a glasshouse.

Really nice place and serving staff are lovely and efficient. Went for Sunday lunch we’re disappointed with our experience. My partner asked for both beef and pork and said he’d happily pay extra - this was not deemed possible! Mashed potato was pre prepared and cold. Yorkshires we’re soft and flat. The yorkshires have been commented on in other reviews. None of the reviews have been answered. We did get food bill reduced on one meal after our request due to cold food, but only on request. Shame it’s a really nice location - but recently refurbished Cliftonville in Cromer and Dales in Sheringham are prepared to listen to what their customers want. Won’t go back to Roman Camp for Sunday lunch . Actually we should have left abs gone elsewhere when they refused to do half pork half beef - anywhere that won’t respect its customer doesn’t deserve the trade.

It was late on a Sunday afternoon and we fancied a Sunday roast. We rang a few places but all stopped serving at 3pm. Then we remembered the sign we’d passed while out on a walk the previous weekend which said The Roman Camp serves Sunday Roast until 9pm. We arrived around 6pm and found a table outside in the sunshine. We would’ve preferred to have sat out on the grassed area, as we had doggie with us, but we’re told food is only served on the terrace. Not sure why this makes any diffference, as there was only one other couple outside and they were only drinking. So we did as requested and sat on the terrace. The gardens are beautiful. The choice of roast was Beef or Pork. It was served on a bed of roast potatoes and vegetables, carrots, leeks, cabbage with some mash potato too. The pork & beef were both delicious. And the gravy was lovely and thick & tasty. The Yorkshire’s weren’t massive & a bit flat but tasted good. Overall it was a lovely to sit outside in the sunshine and eat a lovely dinner and we will definitely return.

Although the place is very posh and clean and staff very polite. I found it to be un friendly why because my dogs were in a very equipped van. I didn’t take them inside and they knew they were there during the day. Nothing was said by anyone then. I would not have put a animal out at 11 00 pm. It is not on my bucket list ever.

Had my son's 40th birthday lunch here yesterday, they gave us our own room which was perfect, light, warm and enough room for the grandchildren to play in. The food was great and served by exceptional staff. The barman was very helpful and polite. Overall a great time in a lovely place with great charm and character, we hope to return in the summer and make use of the lovely garden....thank you

Called in on the off chance and certainly glad we did. Good service and delicious food, just what we needn't on a cold sunday. Don't live far away so will without doubt return.

Called in for a drink one evening last week. Drinks were horrendously expensive. As my Dad would have said "I wanted a drink not to buy the pub"

Generous starter meant we couldn’t do justice to the excellent chilli bowl ( me) and battered haddock (spouse)! Good quality food at reasonable prices with pleasant but unobtrusive service...just what we were looking for in the circumstances for our evening meal.

Lovely friendly pub ,amazing beer garden, great food , was amazed at the size of the beer garden which is such a surprise because you can’t see it from the road, even tho they were extremely busy the service was very efficient, well worth a visit

Ate here after a day out in Norfolk and needing somewhere to fill our bellies. This place definitely did that! We ordered a couple of pints and chose our meals. I had the duck which was overcooked so informed the staff of this when I was asked how the meal was (after all it was not cheap - £14.95). I received a beautifully cooked meal in replacement and the roast potatoes were so good (that I had been stealing from hubby's plate whilst I waited for my dinner). Staff friendly too. Will be back when in the area.

If you fancy something a little different, then this is the place. Fancy fish and chips? Don’t just look at other peoples’ plates, order it yourself! Too late? You won’t be sorry to return in fact, you will want to to have the other dishes!

Not a lot of choice, too fancy food not cooked brilliantly, over priced. The pub needs to serve more traditional pub fare. Service not great, we were forgotten about on numerous occasions during our sitting.

Been here a few times for dinner- really great food and a lovely atmosphere. The soup is always a must! Fish dishes are always lovely as well and they have a good selection for meat and non-meat eaters. Service can be a little slow when busy but fine if you’re having a nice leisurely dinner. The only reason I’ve given 4 instead of 5 as they no longer have a “bar” area where you can sit and have a drink. It’s seems it’s all food tables in the last year or so- it was nice to sit and have a drink before/after dinner. Recommended for dinner and heard they do good Sunday roasts

We know this part of Norfolk very well as a holiday spot. We have been coming to the Victoria on and off for years. It is now a hotel that serves lunch and dinner NOT a pub. We booked Sunday dinner and I was happy to find that despite an 8pm. table there was still roast beef available. It was delicious 😋! Good portion of medium rare sirloin accompanied by crispy roast potatoes, a fine Yorkshire pudding, a good assortment of vegetables and cauliflower cheese. A few years back I rated a bunch of places local to home and I think the Victoria would have only been beaten by Cliveden We did have room for pudding and thank goodness we did. The rice pudding was spectacular! Unusual but inspirational flavours. The staff were happy and attentive. We took our well behaved dog and saw a couple of others in the restaurant. We chose to come here as it’s dog friendly. Perhaps ask for a quiet table if you’d prefer not to be around dogs when you eat. Overall highly recommended and excellent value. Thanks all.

Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day. Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now). It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.

Wow what a find. the best place to eat for miles around if you have dogs with you as it is very dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat out on the covered terrace next to the lovely garden. There was a choice of 4 roast meats and a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The cost was also very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere.
