The Robert Peel in Bury

I was bored sitting at home tonight so went to a pub in Bury and had one pint and fish n chips just to get out of the house. Thought I’d have another on my way back (at The Robert Peel) but when I ordered a drink at the bar I was refused service. I initially laughed presuming it was a joke, but no…I’d had too many???? I went straight next door for a drink (got served) and stared at myself in their mirror wondering what on earth was going on. Despite being well dressed my hair looked a bit wild (it had been a very windy day) and I was on my own which might make me look a bit strange (But seems kind of cool when Keanu Reeves does it). Anyway not really complaining, sure if was just a one off but…..seemed a bit harsh.

Typical Wetherspoons, busy because the beer is good and cheap, but food is also reasonably priced, good, friendly service, just what you need for a lovely pub lunch

Nice pub, good food pay for what you get.. Cheap prices for a good pint. Friendly staff. 😀 Update 25/1/25. Nice choice of beers etc. Staff friendly and prompt service. Can be busy and struggle for seating at times but can't complain on that. DJ/Karaoke on a sat night can be a bit load if just wanting a quiet drink.

Good selection of beers at a reasonable price.

Always busy not very big for seating so dinner time is hectic!

I had fish and chips and peas +2 fish was cold and burnt chips was crispy and peas was cold after 2min it felt like last night warm ups

Con la mia compagna sono venuto a mangiare in questo locale due volte nell' ultimo mese e devo dire che siamo stati proprio bene. Il pub è pulito, organizzato e colorato; si mangia e si beve bene e lo Staff è simpatico e cordiale. Torneremo.

Terrible microwave Turkey dinner, canned veg and instant mash, meat was poor... never been before, should have read the reviews 😕

Went in for drinks last night about 10.20 or so 4 of us all aged from 61 to touching 80. After ordering our second drink one of the party who had been out with the manager who frankly has a poor personality at best started mopping the floor by the bar while people were in! Bizarre to say the least I'd suggest it was down to alcohol consumption. Just after 11pm we got pestered to drink up!! After the 3rd time we drank up and left it was only 11.15. Left Bury and on the way past another pub The Old White Lion was packed! Speaks realms for the way the pub is run

Real lovely staff! Great pub with high ceilings and lots of room. Excellent pizza! Generous kids menu!

Beautiful pizza served by a young lad didn't get his name unfortunately but very happy obviously loves his job credit to the pub

Some of the staff are very good , Some ( lady manager ) are Not No system at the bar , you can wait in line ? ! No queuing system , and they serve someone who just walks in the doors, walks past people waiting and orders , ? Picture of a "pint " attached Really !

Very poor service, food non existent, we ordered on the app only to be told an hour later they turned the app off but didn't announced it. We had an order number and it stated order successful !! VERY POOR SERVICE. We left as couldn't wait another hour for food due to dietry concerns and needed to eat.

What can I say excellent value for money on both drinks and food Staff were excellent as well

Food awful. Chicken wings burnt on outside abd undercooked and slimey on inside beef burger fell apart cos bread was so dry and beef pattie overdone and no taste. My husband had sausage and mash - flavourless sausage, bland mash, vinegary gravy. Rubbish food - never again. Menu & ordering system based on the Wetherspoons model but not a patch on J.D's.

Food lukewarm at best. In fact Chips were cold and dry as though they had been left standing for some time before being served.

I found a hair in my curry and so did my mum and when confronted a member a staff nowt got done and no apology she just said it must of been in there b4 cooking. I won't visit this place again

It's a good all round pub with good atmosphere and good service. Prices are very reasonable, probably the cheapest in Bury.

Food wasn't the best.. dirty cups and cutlery (which I had to ask for a new set/cup). Staff aren't very approachable

Traditional type of establishment. Plenty of choice on the menu.service slow but it was extremely busy.

Wasn't a great experience, too many singles taking up multi person tables, food was overpriced for the quality, actually ended up walking out and went to the Spoons instead

Used to be a Wetherspoons. But pleasant enough. Staff good. Didn't try the food so can't comment. Real ales on an decent choice. A good experience. Seemed nice and clean

Great place to grab a bite to eat and a nice pint of Guinness 👍 young lad was rushing around pleasing everyone he even changed my mash to chips he's a good 1 keep hold of him 😀

Best whetherspoon in the North west

A lively venue, busy but not too busy. Karaoke was lovely too.. odd notes flying everywhere.. but everyone participating was enjoying themselves! 😉🤣 Great choice of beers and great prices.. still matching 'Spoons. +..as you may or may not know, this pub was formerly a 'Spoons.. they have relocated to about 100 mters down the road.. but, certainly from the outside, The Robert Peel looks the better, more inviting, pub.

Curry was ok wouldn't have it again.ladies loos need a good clean .

Were else can you get a sit down,full English breakfast and unlimited coffee with lovely smiling staff serving you ,for under ten quid these days , always piping hot and delicious, try doing that at McDonald's.

My second visit with daughter and grandson today. I had ham, egg and chips. Sadly the chips were cold as were the two fried eggs with hard yolks. Grandsons pizza baguette was made with salsa and baked beans were missing. Daughter's baguette didn't have much filling. Food is cheap enough but I I won't be going back.

Ordered the 3 small plates for 15 pounds sat and Sunday deal food outstanding and hot the chilli and honey sauce was so lovely and garlic mushrooms 🍄 made my mouth water I can't wait to come back again to bury

It was quiet when we went in then others started to come in staff were really nice friendly first time I had been out in 6 years

Guys if you like your burgers try the ultimate burger wow gorgeous the onion rings were beautiful and big £10.50 that includes a drink and it is a big portion I will definitely be popping in for another.

No longer a Wetherspoons but they've kept it the same, food is fair if you enjoy Wetherspoons, drinks still good value 👍

Really enjoyed the Chicken tikka Wrap with chips.

Absolutely terrible food. Hard bun. Burger dry. Salad (well if you could call it that) wilted. Chips rock hard. Only thing edible was the bottled sauce. It was finished off my a foreign body that I found in the burger.

Came here today with my husband and children me and my husband got fish and chips what a let down the fish was dry and out was very crispy chips dry the food came slightly warm pea looked like they been out for two day the whole meal did wobt be coming back we could not eat we left and walk noone came to ask if everything was OK. Bad bad stay way

The place looks nice inside cheap for drinks ...The food was awful I had the jalfrezi with rice , poppadoms,naan bread ,mango chutney and a side bowl of chips ...All sounds lovely it was Crap... The food came out didn't look appetising... The Rice was all clumped together and hard in places ..the chicken was overcooked and chewy.. Naan bread was ok ISH ...chips where Luke warm .. Very disappointed and I ate some as I was hungry ..I didn't complain as I didn't want to make a scene ...Total garbage I would not recommend for food...

First visit to Bury, the market was fantastic then found this great pub that allowed our dog in. All tables were cleaned as soon as customer left, good prices & nice family atmosphere. Only sampled a garlic bread but it was lovely. Would definitely recommend this place.

Someone told me this used to be a Spoons……certainly looks like it was The prices however are definitely not Spoons……service was marginally better than a Spoons On the whole ok

Bar maid served me wrong drink. Land lady just walked away from customers Al I can say is based on the evening I had here is don't come here for a good night based on attitude of the land lady and the barmaid

Went in for a 70th yes 70th birthday with let’s say best clients they gonna get just to get told we was a fire hazard in font of the dj stand / dance area ffs ..don’t put the dj in front of the door then and btw foookin ugly bar staff too

Food was good, took I while for it to be sent to our table but was hot and fresh. Nice atmosphere and would visit again.

We had a good pub meal one evening here. There is decent variety in the menu and some good children’s options. The service was good and we would return again.

Went in weds with misses order 2 fish and chips hardly any fish just loads of batter and not served chips it was fries no value for 17 quid won't be eating that there again

Disabled Toilets are more like Public toilets. Men lazy. I’m disabled female hate using the Loo there after all the Males in and out the Open Door permanently open.

Went there this morning. Ordered a large breakfast, Xtra black pudding ov course # Bury. Dont know who is in the kitchen now, but let me tell ya, Breakfast was very good. Runny eggs, crispy black pudding. Thick sliced white toast and perfectly cooked bacon. Unlimited coffee for £1.50 and warm welcoming staff. Thankyou everyone!!

After being served a burnt chicken burger and asking nicely for the burger to be re made the manager then brought the burger back and said this is how it is served! Then said do we want a different item walked off and never came back to the table to follow up! Rude service and food standards shocking

This visit was to catch up with friends who we hadn’t seen for a while due to their move to Yorkshire. Three ordered the traditional breakfast another a sausage sandwich. Coffees and a Guinness was our choice of beverages. Service excellent, food cooked perfectly. A good atmosphere and spotlessly clean. Will be retuning to this gem which is better than what the local Wetherspoons Picture House and the nearby The Trackside pub on every level.

Lively pub serving cheap, good value meals and a selection of real ales which change regularly. Always good value - just don't expect Michelin Star quality.

2 meals for a tenner on a Monday,, unbelievable!!! The food was really good too. Drinks really good prices and good choice.
