The Lock Keeper in Bury

Food was ok; portions were not as large as I would have expected for the price. Poor selection of beers. Not one real ale. And for a pub in the North, a shocking selection of one bitter, and one stout. Only beers they had were larger, bottled cider, John smiths and Guinness.

Always here and staff are fab! Food is great too. Would definitely recommend for families or for a casual drink with friends!!

Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Was served by Dan, he was very polite and friendly throughout our whole stay.

A little disappointed on the food. My partner got the curry which he enjoyed. I got the hunters chicken. Chips were cold and the chicken was over done. Struggled to cut into it. Unfortunately won't be returning.

The restaurant was clean with plenty of clean tables. There was not an orderly queue to order food but staff knew who were next in line to be served thankfully. Once the food was ordered the waitress checked it back so we knew she had correctly put it through. We had a rather long wait for food which was ok for the adults but not for the 5yr old. We were not told to get our own cutlery which then delayed us attempting to eat our food as we assumed they would be brought to us. 2 adult meals and a child’s meal were delivered at least 6 minutes before the other 2 adult meals which meant we all ate at seperate times. I had ordered chips not fries but was delivered fries. That was ok I sent them back however, I was delivered half a pot of cold crunchy old chips. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I also felt like the onions on the skillet were very watery like they had previously been frozen and not freshly chopped: they had a funny taste. We didn’t stay for deserts as we had originally planned as we were too disappointed with the mains. My husband also had a skillet meal and he said his food was almost all cold.

Came new years eve with children. Good food good service and great value 😄

Place was super busy, little wait on food but I really enjoyed it.

The service was very friendly and polite. The new Manager was very welcoming and ensured myself and my child had everything we needed. Will definitely be back.

Food was awful, turned up cold, microwaved, underdone and also somehow burnt at the same time. Tater tots on a breakfast is weird as it is but they tasted like mushy plastic.

Booked out the function room for a meeting on Monday nights. Three years ago and we still love it there. Go every week and Andrew and the team are always very friendly and deliver the service levels we expect. Highly recommend

The place has had a make over a few months ago and my word was it needed. The place is much brighter now, friendlier staff, excellent food and great beer. Prices have gone up is the only downside

My first time visiting today and well, excellent doesn’t do justice!! The food was amazing, I had a mixed grill, steak cooked perfectly and the chicken was juicy and tender. Everything was piping hot and the staff were fab too!! Nice music playing to suit all tastes and it wasn’t too loud you couldn’t hold a conversation. Thank you for a lovely experience xx

Came here tonight for the Halloween party. Have to say, great credit to the girls who put it on. It was excellent value for money. Food, games, and fun for the family. My little one loved it

Came here for a few drinks and wine with my family. Had a great time celebrating my brothers engagement. We had a buffet in their function room and it was really excellent. Would thoroughly recommend again to anyone else wanting to book a private party.

Poor experience really - came here because it is local to me and needed somewhere convenient before I had an event booked later on . The police were outside when we got there really with an incident - says it all really ! Was just my friend and I - had a table booked but there didn’t seem to be any order to the running of the place and I asked at the better of we could sit anywhere but they were unsure and had to ask the manager. No point in the booking system if it is not in use when you get there . Ordered a Diet Coke and was given ordinary coke - the waitress ran off before I could say anything . Took nearly 40 minutes for the food to come out - I had to ask after waiting nearly a half hour .Understaffed so had to go and search for a waitress as there was none in the area we were in . Food was okay but my friend’s sausages were the most anemic looking things ever . Ordered the pudding whilst I started my main as I knew it would take a while and we had to get going . There were a lot of locals there just using it as a pub/ night out base and lots of families using it as a restaurant which doesn’t really work given the large size they have given over the restaurant part which they can’t seem to manage. That needs a rethink .

Had a great visit here for food and drinks. Staff were polite and friendly. Very good Smiths and the gammon was excellent. My wife had Sausage and Mash which was also very tasty

We all had a nice meal but 2 of the chicken burgers should have come with barbecue sauce which is on the pictures and never did and I had to go to the bar because my husbands Guinness never arrived with our drinks , they had to check our order

Took my elderly relative here today. The place was nice and clean with comfortable chairs and nice decor. Easy to order food and drinks at the bar. Food good and well priced. Staff nice and friendly. Overall enjoyed our visit and will definitely return.

Great appearance. We are from Ashton under lyne. We needed a spot of brunch inbetween work appointments. We ordered 2 breakfasts which came just warm. We informed Khia the waitress. Not only did she attend to it she ensured we were fully satisfied. Khia went beyond what most would do. Service with a smile and sent us away happy. This young lady is an asset to your restaurant and would ask management to take note. I will come again with my family on this experience. Khia... Thank you x

We had a fantastic day at this venue. The children were entertained at fuzzy eds, drinks were well priced and the food was absolutely perfect. The staff were very sociable and the manager could be seen greeting customers with a smile. I would like to add that the venue is well decorated and has a warm and inviting appeal.

This place is really nice and Had nice ambience. Had a little mishap this morning with breakfasts.. they were just warm.. but our waitress Khia was right on it... She sorted it with a smile and gave us extra toast for good measure and we came away totally satisfied. Thanks Khia..you smashed it ....we needed that kind of service. Btw... Coffee nice too 😊 👍 Management... This young lady is a great ambassador for your company

Ordered chicken tikka masala, rice was rock hard and just about warm. Hunters chicken no better, way overcooked, new chef needed.

Ordered 2 x chicken curry n rice.Had to send the currys back as they were tepid and not hot Had deserts which were good. Place was not full

The food was awful. I could not even eat my starter. Do better☺️ i do not know how anyone enjoys their food. I think someone needs sacking and someone with higher standers needs to take over. The tables are sticky. And it absolutely stinks . Never again will I be returning unless it changes.

We love visiting the Lock keeper as we've always had brilliant service. Firstly the rooms are very clean and inviting with tables cleaned when someone leaves. The staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. The food is of excellent quality and always arrives freshly cooked and is great value for money. They have set a standard that's hard to beat.

Came here for the football the other day. Wasnt busy with the football but we managed to get a seat and have some excellent picky food. wings goujons, chick slices and garlic bread all very tasty and served excellently. Will definitely be going again when we have our children with us to make use of the play centre on site

Quite good getting seating was bit problematic due to being busy but they sorted this found items on menu not listed on order at table app but still worth a visit

Genuinely awful. Couldn’t get served as the staff were chatting. Kids running feral. The food was barely warm and greasy. My Hunter’s chicken was topped with a slice of that burger cheese that comes wrapped in plastic. I actually laughed! Peas soggy and over cooked. The gammon was decent! We used to love it here but haven’t been for a year or so. The menu’s changed (for the worse) and they must have a new team in the kitchen. I am disappointed but more amused at just how bad it was. They were fine with us having a cake for my son’s birthday so that was nice of them! I hope it improves as it’s such a good location. We won’t be back sadly. Decent prices admittedly but I’d prefer to pay more for decent food.

Freshly refurbished and looking great! All food was fresh, hot and tasty and came pretty quickly with all orders correct. Massive improvement since we came a few years back. Staff are lovely and friendly too. The manager Andy was walking around, speaking with people and getting stuck in and it was lovely to see! Keep up the good work guys!

We booked on the website but upon arrival staff did not seem aware till I mentioned the booking ,so found a table we liked in area we liked . The service was good and friendly and the food was lovely. The place has had a refurb and looks and feels good and is very clean and tidy . All we can say is that if someone books a table there should be one designated for them when they arrive.Having said that ,we enjoyed our visit and will return soon .

We haven't been for a long time and we won't be going again ! Had to wait 40 mins plus and the food was cold !! Plus if you're giving kids food for a pound a plate what do you expect other than food thrown everywhere with scruffy people straight from work unwashed , snd in their work gear!! Plus tables far too close to each other with no privacy when eating your meal, which we left,!! It may look nice at the moment, but, you have wasted money in renovations as it will be back to scruffy again in no time at all !!

The staff was lovely and friendly the food was great 👍 and the place looked beautiful after the refit always get the sizzling plate they are the best!! And defo try the sundays

We..booked a table..arrived on time ..was seated.. looked at the very sticky menus...(There where notices everywhere informing us the place was closing 7th May ..for a Refurb.) We tried to order on the QR code stuck to the end of the table...and it came up with the lockeepers page then asked for you to pay £3 to varyfy the payment i had all ready put in my bank details to pay...then it took us to another page and we couldn't go any further... on asking the landlord..he said that wasn't the right page he didn't know how it had happened. not even looking at the QR Code on the table... We ordered food at the bar 2 chicken sizzlers and a fish and chips. food arrived hot ..and very minimalist compared to the pictures...when asking a member of staff they said that's the normal portion..I had two small pieces of sprouting broccoli not even half a pepper and a quarter of a onion...bothe portions where the same..with a piece of chicken out of a multi bag from farm foods ..very dry and crispy around the edges...the chips with the fish & chips had been double dipped in the fryer for the colour on them.. all together..never coming back..and won't enter one of these pubs again. Oh and the QR code is a company advertising there gaming company charge you £3 and the £27.99 every fortnight if you don't cancel it withing the first 24 hours..thankfully we started looking into it as soon as we got home..because we didn't want to be robbed again for the second time in the same night...

come here around once a week for a few drinks. Always a perfect pint. Have been for food in the past and that’s always great too. All the staff are the most wonderful people going. Always feel very welcome here. ❤️x

Went with a group of around 18 of us, a large mix of adults and kids. All orders were done separately, and some at the bar and some online, but dll food was cooked to arrive simultaneously so everyone ate at the same time. Great work guys. Will definitely come again!

Booked here last minute for a private party for my little ones birthday. Had been here before but not used the function room before. Room was very spacious and gave us a quiet room we could celebrate in peace. The food was all really good and the staff were extremely polite and made us all welcome. Kids are made to feel part of a group here with the play area on site as well. Overall really good we will return

Meal by the river. Came and it was quite warm so decided to sit out by the river. Food came and was excellent. Hot and tasty and we could order drinks through an online app so we didn’t have to move.

Came here for a friend’s birthday party to try the new menu we saw advertised. The food was great. Saw many different variations of spices and sauces however still catered for the traditionalists like fish n chips and sausage and mash. Recommended

Very inclusive caters to children and adult diners alike. Exceptionally child friendly. Family areas and quieter areas diners who prefer peace and quiet.

Decent steak and chips at a very decent price. Sirloin was tender and juicy and the chic skewers with tandoori on were amazing

Very slow service..I appreciate short staffing but not an excuse to be ignorant..food cold Just to reply back to your response I understand this may of had a knock on affect but that's doesn't give your staff the right to speak to customers the way they did also when speaking to the staff we found out your bar staff was helping with the cooking which I believe is a h&s violation and cross contamination. With being under staffed the kitchen should of been closed down I get this would of had an effect on your takings but customers would of understood more than being served cold food or missing food along with being told after paying for food we ordered that they didn't have the food we wanted this should of been said when ordering.

Inexpensive but well cooked and enjoyable. Staff are very accomodating and pleasant.

Food was lukewarm warm, and the steak was mainly fat, no one came to ask if it was all ok, even after we finished, the dirty plates were left until after we left the building. Its not like it was busy, there were a few in, but not many (i wonder why?) Wont be visiting again, and also out us off going to other Sizzling pubs

NGL our food came out cold and I asked really nicely if it could be sorted and they dealt with it no probs and came back within minutes piping hot with extra fries. Hot dogs come with a proper (big) sausage and not a frankfurter. Staff will work super hard to sort your food out. It’s a cheap-as-chips pub but the food is a million times better than ‘spoons.

Good hot food and very pleasant staff. We asked for a quiet table as we knew that it was a very child friendly pub with a large kiddies play. The table was perfect though sadly our quiet table was spoiled due to ignorant people using their mobiles on speak phone. One in particular but then 2 more joined in !!! They weren't even sat near us. Maybe this establishment could make it a mobile free zone - or at least speaker free. All in all though our meal out was lovely and we understand that 'rude' people get everywhere - such a shame though as we'll probably stay with our local Sizzlers.

3 stars. I hope in the future this will be better and will update accordingly. This evening was a date night and we basically drove the car to any pub and ended up here. Will return if only for the food. I'm a greedy person and had the mega mixed grill. The best gammon I've had for a while. Steak was good and the chicken was good as well. Wish I could say perfect but at the price. It was just right. But drinks. They were a let down. Latte did not sit right, lemonade, well. I've tasted much better. I'd normally have a beer but decided on a soft drink because I was driving. Lack of choice due to unavailable products which meant I had a Pepsi max. Big problem is taste of the drinks was not good and were not satisfying. But I will return. I want them hot dogs for lunch. And hope this was a one off with the drinks. If so. It'll be 5 stars and I would recommend.

Upgraded to sweet potato fries but they weren't hot. I had Mediterranean Chicken. If your a regular at Lock Keeper this dish is the Italian Chicken instead of tomato sauce it is now salsa. But the pumped up salad is amazing

Came for a quick bite to eat during the afternoon last week. The 2 meals for 11 is a great deal. Gammon and chips was lovely and the fish was cooked just how I like. We had onion rings as well. Very tasty

Came here one morning, not knowing what we were going to expect. Heard mixed reviews over the years. We all had breakfast with unlimited toast and coffee. Have to say it was all very nice and the staff serving us were exemplary.

Chicken skewers and beef lasagne were very good however the steak was slightly over cooked. The desserts were really good though and drinks were all perfectly served

Came for a Christmas meal. Turkey was lovely and tender and roast potatoes were perfect, stuffing and pigs spot on. Would have liked more gravy though. Will be back

Tasty hot food and with a play area attached for the kids. Mine love the play area. Quite a small one so more suitable for younger children than older children. My older child played pool so it caters for all family members

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY!! After specifying more than once I have celiac disease and needed gluten free food, I was given food with gluten in and was very poorly after. I tried to contact the restaurant twice to discuss this and they have ignored my emails.

Had a children’s party here. The team looked after us excellently. Were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. My son last happy and as a parent there is no better feeling than that. Thank you :)

We have just got back from our Christmas dinner at the lock keeper and had to write this review to Thank Andrew and his team for a wonderful experience all the staff were attentive and cheerful the food was beautiful and plentiful we all need...

Always enjoy dining here. We visit the playcentre next door before having our tea here. The staff who work here are always friendly and welcoming. Great place for kids as some tables have TV's in the booth and some have kids games to play on the walls in booths. Food is reasonable priced as well. Great menu with plenty to eat!!
