Busy local pub on a Saturday night - food quality was very good and excellent value for money

Great live bands and a friendly atmosphere have made every visit an enjoyable experience

We've visited this pub 3 times during our Cornwall stay. The first time was just for drinks and they were so accommodating and welcoming! The next 2 times was for food and drinks and they did not disappoint. We never booked and, once again, they couldn't have been more accommodating. As a family of 6, with a dog, they were just fantastic. Friendly staff who would do anything for you (moving tables etc). The food menu is limited (not in a negative way) and the food was amazing. Everyone in the family was 100% satisfied! Great price and would highly recommend!!!

Great local pub with a really friendly atmosphere and the staff are always polite. The new owner has done an amazing job if the year he has had it to turn it into the lovely place it is with good live music every Friday. It's like a proper old school pub where everyone go,s to be social. Such a breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work.

Food was well presented and felt looked after..

A friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. Robartes do a good quality delicious roast on Sundays and at a good price. They also have bands regularly.

First night on holiday here in Cornwall and went here for food with our dog. Food was ok but one of the barman was grumpy and unwelcoming. Whinging on because we had brought the dog water bowl from the porch into the bar temporarily so our dog could have a drink in the scorching heat all because a bit went on the floor (which we cleaned up). Maybe advertise yourselves as 'barely dog tolerant' rather than dog friendly. Always remember it costs nothing to be kind. Grumpy old git. Unwelcoming. Wouldn't go back. Edit to respond to the reply. Firstly we weren't booked in, we were walk ins on Saturday teatime and were told we could sit down near the pool table. Secondly if you want the water to be left in the porch then put a sign up. Thirdly no one said it was a 'hardship' and it's not the fact we couldn't have the water in the restaurant it's how it was communicated to us. Rude and unwelcoming. Make all the excuses you want. The barman was grumpy, rude and sarcastic. Take some ownership rather than talking your way out of it. Embarrassing. It was an older guy who was rude not the young lad. Yes the right place.

Good food nice staff fairly priced

Pizza's only being served as it was supposed to be a music night. Pizza's were great and we'll be back. However the band seemed to have problems and didn't really get going.

We went to the Robartes for a sunday lunch as an anniversary meal, taking our extended family with us. The food was fantastic, especially for the price. The mains were all freshly prepared and cooked perfectly, with a lovely, hot, horseradish sauce. For pudding I ordered a lemon tart with ice cream and my wife had a rhubarb crumble but each one was enough for 3 people. I'll definitely be back, Lee and the team have really worked to make the pub a great place to drink and to eat.

Was looking for somewhere to watch the play off Football and have a bit of Sunday Lunch, so called ahead and they said they would put it on for us. We were wary welcomed to the pub by the landlord I presume who set us up a table right In front of the TV. The pub itself is a traditional no frills pub geared to serve the community with darts and pool etc. So please don't expect a five star hotel type bar. But type of pub it is and the friendly locals give this pub all the charm it needs. Almost everyone of them made a point of chatting if they passed us or when we were at the bar. And the staff couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed our time there. Onto lunch. Only 2 choices today Roast Lamb or Roast Pork. This suited us down to the ground as we were looking for a traditional Sunday lunch. Again, a simple no frills offering, however the portion sizes were very good (4 generous slices of pork on mine and 2 pieces of perfect crackling). All the vegetables are obviously fresh, nicely cooked and very tasty. (Roast potatoes, leeks, swede, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese) My wife had the Lamb and she said it was very tasty and tender. If I was to be ultra pickey the only very slight let down was the bought in Yorkshire puds. But even with that, the chef actually explained that they had only recently taken over the small kitchen and as yet had not had chance to re arrange to give himself space to cook the amount needed fresh. But intended to work on that. And to be fair they were pretty good bought examples. All in all we found this to be a very good traditional locals pub that gives a very very warm welcome to holiday makers. It reminded us very much of a pub we used to run in Yorkshire. No Frills pub that doesn't need to be anything other. Five stars from us !

I popped in and had a roast here today. I’m veggie so chose the quorn fillet (best to book ahead) the veg was lovely, clearly not frozen as suggested by another review, my faves were the roasted parsnip and the broccoli cheese. I had the small roast and it was delicious. Also on offer was beef and pork. I would definitely recommend this place. I’ve also been previously for a pizza in a Friday that Waldo delicious. The waiting staff are polite, friendly and approachable. Well done to the new Robartes team 10/10

Been here for 2 Sunday roasts now , food was excellent, full of flavour and tender beef , probably the best cauliflower cheese I’ve tasted !! Keep up the good work, we will certainly be back 👌👌

Have been waiting a long time to come and eat here. They have been upgrading the kitchen which has taken some time. Anyway, the restaurant area was very nice and presented lovely. Unfortunately the food didnt deliver. We were expecting a carvery however, the carvery was a little strange. You were called up to get your food that comes out with the meat and stuffing ball in a large round Yorkshire pudding. The rest of the food is then placed on the plate for you. Including cauliflower cheese. Which all seemed a bit northern to me. The food seemed to taste of that familiar frozen food from Aunt Bessie. It could be because they have only just started to serve a Sunday roast but it wasn't pleasant home cooked food. The meat was tough and not cut from a joint. It lacked flavour. Very disappointing even though good value. The cakes were lovely though the vegan cake I had was half the size to what my guests had on their plate. Maybe they need to get established first. I'll come back in 6 months and see how it fairs.

Sunday afternoon... its missing atmosphere and homeless.. its not like it used to be.. beer is good though.

Saw 'Sinpusher', a local rock band, here Fri 16 Feb. Great venue with good acoustics due to soft furnishings, carpet and wood. Friendly staff, Lee looks after his customers very well. Drinks in pubs, in general, are very expensive now, so it's great to see so many people out enjoying themselves. 🎸🎶🤟👍

We wanted some food but the kitchen was closed for refurbishment.But ...was told if you ordered a takeaway you can eat it here. We were very grateful as having moved that day with nothing to eat.

Liked the atmosphere and the band

The new landlords are amazing , do so much for the local community. Had the best Christmas party there for the children today. All free and absolutely buzzing. Thanks guys

Under new management and what a complete turn around they have made .... great atmosphere and good banter.... nice family pub food to follow soon im told ....

Karaoke the last friday of the month.

Post the Covid shut down, we have now resumed our weekly visits to the Robartes Arms, our village pub in Illogan, Robartes ticks all the boxes that any good pub should. The welcome is warm, the beer is good and the food served is excellent. The chef, Neal, serves all the pub favourites with specials on most nights. The only downside is that I am putting on weight as the food is so good!!

Rang the pub and booked a meal last minute. Ordered a Teriyaki Steak salad and a burger! The photos speak for themselves, absolutely fantastic. Have been back since for their Sunday carvery. Definitely the best around.

Went for Sunday lunch and the carvery was really good..staff were very friendly and attentive,a real credit to the owners.

As much as myself and a couple of others waited a while to get served it'd be wrong to mark them down. This was due to an influx of people coming in sitting down to eat and drink who were already being served. That with businesses struggling to recruit in hospitality I would assume would be the deal here Once served great service and lovely atmosphere. I didn't eat but the food coming out looked and smelt nice . I'd be happy to come here again 😊

Booked a table for dinner. The service was great didn't wait long to take our food order. Despite being short staffed. The waitress was friendly and couldn't do enough for us. I asked for cream in my coffee they sent out for cream....amazing customer service. All the food was very good and plentiful in fact portion size could be reduced. We had dinner here last night too. A great little local, friendly accomadating and welcoming. Our sister has bought a house in Illogan so hopefully we'll be back soon. Thankyou to the barman and Daisyxx

9 of us spent an evening here.We all had fab meals and the portion sizes were huge. Lovely staff & atmosphere so friendly, we all had a gr8 night. Quiz too! Definately will be going back.

Came here during our stay, the staff was welcoming and friendly, the food was lovely and the atmosphere was nice too, it was dog friendly and all trimmed up for christmas, all in all I would highly recommend calling in if your nearby 😀

Great friendly pub in the middle of the village. We visited on jam night, so entertained all evening with good music.

Four of us went here to see our friend performing in a band. Great place, great food, great service and great drinks. Very well priced too! We'll be back for the next one :)

Booked a table with friends to eat & then take part in the weekly quiz. We were shown to our table immediately. The staff were friendly & took our food & drink orders at the table. There was a menu & a daily specials board. Three of us had the daily pie special - 2 had steak & ale & I had the chicken & leek. There was a choice of chips or mash. The pies were really tasty. The others had the scampi & the gammon. Both said their food was lovely. Portions are generous so we were glad we hadn’t ordered starters. The quiz was excellent with a good range of questions & challenges. We will definitely be going back.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch booked for the following Sunday at 2pm, only to arrive and told they are sold out of lunch. When we told them we reserved a week ago they go and look in their book and go "oh yes, you're in here. I'll see what the Kitchen can do". When my son overheard the kitchen say they could "scrape something together with what's left", we did the same thing and left too.

On a recent 4 day trip to Illogan, Redruth, I visited this traditional pub on two occasions. A warm welcome awaited my partner & I and the food was superb, plus plentiful.

Second time we popped in here for a roast on a Sunday . It doesn’t disappoint. Great food

Horrible atmosphere as soon as we walked in. Food was terrible .. not sure what was on the gone off cauliflower, but it wasn't cheese. A real shame as a few years back we had good experience with the pub (different management) Possibly an off day 🤷‍♂️

We visited Robartes Arms for Sunday lunch they were very busy but the food was really nice we had the Pork which was delicious. We could not fault the food or the service would highly recommend.

Decent pub grub for an expected price. The portion sizes were huge so cannot knock that at all, and most the plates that came out were very good. I felt a bit deflated with mine as my medium rare steak was well done but everyone else's meals looked amazing, especially the salad!

One member of staff worked their socks off credit to her Music a real bonus such a good change for a Monday night

Was in Saturday night, lovely food and brilliant live music. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Came in this week with our family and the experience was rude from the start. The girl at the bar rolled her eyes when we walked in and tried her hardest to avoid serving us whilst she chatted to what must have been regulars, when she FINALLY came over to us we gave our drinks order and waited another life time for her to walk 5 metres and back to grab the menus. The food was dreadful, took ages, was ridiculously overpriced (obviously marked up for the summer) AND was missing things that were stated on the menu but weren’t on the plate. We didn’t stay for another drink. We thought about expressing our disgust to the man sat on his arse shovelling food into his face in the corner who was obviously the landlord but after we heard him muttering something about “f*cking emitts” on the phone we decided against it genuinely scared of the outburst it may cause. Very unhappy and we should have known we were in for a bad time when we walked in on a lovely day and saw hardly anyone at the pub. Obviously most people have already learned this lesson and know not to come here. Hopefully this review will save others their time and hard earned money.

Ended up at this place by accident but what a happy accident! It was the night of the Euros final, we hadn’t booked however the waitress was incredibly helpful to get us a table and the waiters were going out of their way to ensure all our needs were being met!

The food was good, but, I asked for a RARE STEAK and two other people an myself emphasised RARE and the girl said OK. A bit later the food arrived and I would say it was medium but more to well done??? We said it loads of times but it still came out overcooked??? So, just two families, got a drink and then later asked for another, later, later on still no drink? Called the girl over and she apologised saying she had got a phone call and forgot??? As always, this might have been a one off, so if you are going, then you can make your own judgement yourself. We won’t be bothering again as it felt like they were not really bothered to have us there or not, (the two girls that is, I’m not sure about the landlord, but maybe this will make him think he needs better staff, or staff with commitment as he has lost our loyalty now and we are going further afield to try other places. This place was good as it was a walk away so nobody had to drive, but the experience put us right off. Oh and by the way, they brought out the food after us waiting there for ages, then when they brought the last meal, they then went and got the knives and forks??? Also did the same with the ice cream with the spoons coming after all the desserts??? Never seen this ever before when going out eating.

Chips were not cooked enough. Should be cooked twice. Limited menu although a reasonable choice for vegetarians. NO DESSERTS.

Good little pub, freindly staff and locals

The staff were friendly, prices good, and we felt fairly safe eating here (couple of regulars without masks but can't determine if they're exempt). The pub was cold, because a door had been left open for ventilation. Also my steak was a bit overdone for how I asked it to be cooked. However the portions were large and the chips were delicious. There was a nice atmosphere and other customers anf the rest of the family seemed to be enjoying what they had ordered. Go, but give the steak a skip.

I went to a local football match on Saturday 19th September and me my wife and 16 year old son with autism went back to the pub with the players after. On arrival the young barmaid made us very welcome and the landlady soon got in to a chat with my son making him feel very welcome. The football clubs had macaroni cheese and chips to which my son was made welcome for the snack. A real nice feel to the pub and one Id go back to when passing again

A very warm welcome upon arrival and the most delicious food from a wide choice on the menu. All cooked to perfection and a vast selection of Gins to choose from. Bonus for me personally! Very highly recommended.
