Now let me tell you this isn't just a pub or inn. This is an experience you must have once in your life. The food was incredible sure. The decorations??? On Halloween. Incredible. The staff and service? Amazing. The vibe?? Absolutely phenomenal. You will witness things. Learn things. See things you cannot explain and there's something magical about that. Don't forget to visit the gift shop and museum whilst you're there. It's definitely worth the 30minutes!!

Second visit to the Jamaica Inn, we decided to stay overnight in the hotel which was On Halloween 🎃 👻 week. You can visit the Daphne De Maurier museum included with your overnight stay for free, which is a bonus. Stayed in one of the rooms which is in the original part of the building. Unfortunately didn’t see any Ghosts on this occasion. Well presented room with four post bed, good sized bathroom with walk in shower and separate freestanding bath. If you’re travelling with your dog, they can’t stay in the older rooms, But they can stay in the new part of the hotel. They do let you know this when booking. Definitely recommend this hotel, friendly and accommodating staff too.

Ate here once and wasn't terribly impressed, but figured we'd give it a second go, both times not greeted as we entered and instead had to walk around looking for a table ourselves. The second time, asked for a high chair and had one nearly thrown at us with a comment of "You sort that out". No table service. Arrived at 16:20 on Friday, the gift shop was already closed. The website states it closes at 5pm. The woman in the shop looked at us outside the door and carried on. Seems they're resting on the laurels of it's history.

Me and the boss have been coming here for the last 20 years plus. However this year the food seems to have gone downhill. No longer is it a place of magic. It has become a pub of money making normality. What a shame. The chips were as cold and miserable. The burger peppery tastelessness.

We had a late lunch here on a Wednesday. The place was very quiet. We had a beef pasty with chips and beans, a prawn sandwich with crisps and salad. The food came about 5 mins after ordering. We then had one cream tea with a fruit scone, which was warm and big enough to share. The mains were fine, but relatively expensive. The prawns had a slightly odd taste.

For me, the key to having a reasonable experience of Jamaica Inn is to know what you're going to, what you're likely to get and what you won't be getting. Fans of Daphne Du Maurier may have images of a windswept barren moor with an isolated pub braced against the wind and populated by edgy and charismatic characters. - In which case, you're setting yourselves up for a disappointment. Jamaica Inn is a perfectly serviceable pub (think something like a Weatherspoons aiming and working to be a gastropub). I don't mean that as a criticism - but that's kinda sorta what the pub is. Far from having mysterious characters sipping smuggled rum in a charming inglenook fire - you'll probably find fellow travellers along the A30 who are also wondering where the pirates are. The space is large and the tables allow a fair amount of space but ironically little privacy. Everything at Jamaica Inn is a function of the tourist season. If it's high season service isn't as good and the wait is going to be longer. If it's mid winter there may be fewer staff apparent but you'll probably get served just as quickly if not more quickly. The menu has pub food with aspirations of greatness. It's cooked well but isn't exceptional. The bar service model is a bit clunky and the staff could be a bit friendlier. I asked three staff members about the sourcing of their menu - not their thing it seems. It's a perfectly acceptable pub with history and a gift shop. If you're a Du Maurier fan think less Jamaica though it's certainly not Hungry Hill. Think of her short story collection 'Breaking Place'. By that I mean it's a great place to break your journey or to add on to other visits in the area - probably not a destination visit in its own right.

If you’re a Du Maurier fan with romantic notions of finding a lonely 18th century coaching inn on a windswept moor filled with intrigue, character and charm, you’ll be disappointed as soon as you step inside to find it looks exactly like a Harvester restaurant - covered with fake Halloween cobwebs on our visit - and right next to the A30. Service was ok and although my food (the little there was of it) was very tasty, it was £9.25 for 6 little bits of squid! The coffee was straight out of an automatic machine and didn’t taste very nice. We were interested in seeing Daphne du Maurier’s room but on being told we’d need to pay, we decided we’d been ripped off enough already and left. No atmosphere, no value for money, nowhere near what I thought it would be. Don’t bother!

Went to Jamaica inn twice as we were staying close by. First meal on Friday was lovely, however went again Monday and ordered the chicken korma. Dry was an understatement. No creamy sauce but curdled dry coating on the chicken. Complained to the manager who said he would get the chef to make a fresh portion which came back the same but with a bit more liquid on. Definately not a creamy sauce and couldn't eat it. Ordered desert as I thought a crumble and custard would fill me up, however waited 40 mins and it never arrived by which time kitchen was closed. I've been to Jamaica Inn a number of times of the years but this time there was a definite lack of friendliness and customer satisfaction.

The owners have done a great job developing this as attraction, so in addition to the hotel and large pub and restaurant there is a museum, farm shop and souvenir shop on site. Local Reviewer I booked a table online for 3 people for Father's Day, booking was very simple and I found the website great. On arrival, we were sat at a table outside the main restaurant and asked to order at the bar. Barman was friendly and drinks were nice. We ordered starters, mains and a pudding for my 5 year old daughter. The mains arrived first after around 25 minutes, they had to be sent back as we were still awaiting our starters. My husbands starter arrived (no cutlery) around 10 minutes later and the waiter remarked that I wanted my starter as a main? I advised this wasn't the case and after around 5 minutes more my starter arrived ( still no cutlery). Then my daughters starter arrived a few minutes later and we eventually were given cutlery. The starters were OK, gastro pub style - not my usual cup of tea but fine. Then the waitress came over and said that the usual vegetables were not available due to the kitchen changing over to the evening menu. Obviously, we could not do alot about that so accepted it. Our mains arrived, roasted parsnips cold, no stuffing or crackling. The beef was also quite fatty. We were given all the leftover food from the lunch menu on mass as an apology for the poor service, so we had 3 plates of evening veg, plus an extra plate of roasts and parsnips. We didn't eat most of it, as it just wasn't very nice at all. Then we had to wait around 20 more minutes for our plates to be taken away and them finally, just before the 2hr mark my daughters icecream arrived. She ate a little of it but said it wasn't that nice either - unheard of! I was just relieved to leave by this point and couldn't wait to get home. In short, there is zero chance of my family returning to the Jamaica Inn. Go to the London Inn in St Neot instead!

Visited with a friend for dinner, both very underwhelmed. Cannot fault the FOH staff at all, the service was exceptional. The food was at best, generic. My friend had a burger which he said tasted of nothing and the ‘salad’ garnish was some very limp rocket leaves that had clearly been under the pass lights too long. The sauce with the crab cakes tasted like someone had mixed lemon curd with mayonnaise. The pie I had, whilst well filled, was really nothing special. The pastry was soggy and I left most of it. The vegetables were less al dentè and more just undercooked. We stopped ourselves from deserts as the prices were ridiculous for them. Espresso to finish which was very weak.

Talking of menus, just because I’ve put it to the side whilst my friend is talking to me does t mean I have finished with it!! You don’t just walk up and take it off the table without even speaking. Ask first!!! Don’t waste your time or money unless you enjoy unhelpful and rude staff. Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to not give a star when reviewing and I wouldn’t have done but it would let me review. I stayed nearby for a night in a lorry. It's easily accessible just off the A30 with plenty of parking. As a single diner, I wouldn't recommend. I was told to take a seat anywhere and to pick up a menu on my way through. The pub is full of character work plenty to look at. Food and drink needed to be ordered at the bar. And I was told they wouldn't have a tab on the table and I had to pay up front. I ordered the tomato and brie arancini balls which were very stodgy and bland. The garlic mayo that was served with them was the only real flavour. I then had the grilled lamb chops which were quite small and very fatty. Served on large slab of dauphinoise potatoes. Again, not very flavoursome. For £27, I expected much better quality. No one came to check on my meal and I had to leave the table to get another drink. I would have considered a dessert but no menu was offered or anywhere to be found. Unfortunately it felt more like a cheap chain pub but with guiness at £6.70 a pint and expensive, low quality food.

Ahoy, fellow travellers! Stopped off at the notorious Jamaica Inn on our way back from a Cornwall family holiday. This marks the third time I’ve swung by this inn, only to find the gift shop as closed as Davy Jones’ locker. I must say, it seems to be losing its charm over the years. The place lures you in with its link to the novel and its swashbuckling history, but absolutely zero effort is being made to keep this nostalgic experience afloat. The smuggler mannequins are ancient relics themselves and in dire need of repair. One of the only interactive ones is touting an experience that was keelhauled seven years ago, and the poor chap’s hand has fallen off into his chair. Alas, the staff were as clueless as landlubbers on how to reprogram him. The overall atmosphere is still good, with a vintage feel. Especially sitting by the doors on a dark and stormy night, every time the door hinges open, you half expect a real pirate to swagger in, demanding rum and treasure. The food was decent, though service was slower than a ship in the doldrums. We ordered burgers, pie, and a children’s fish. All went down well, though we had to ask for several things that should be standard fare: table sauces, napkins, and the children’s meal dessert (twice). Perhaps they were busy, but it felt more like lacklustre service. It won’t be my last voyage to the Jamaica Inn, but I really hope the experience improves with age. Arr, let’s hope they don’t completely scuttle the charm next time. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll catch the elusive gift shop open!

So beautifully decorated for Christmas. Staff efficient, great service. Food was divine. Will definitely go back again.

Just visited the airstream donut wagon outside of the Cornwall services to buy my son a special edition grinch donut as a little treat. The guy working today (Sunday 8th December 24) could not have been more helpful and kind. The world needs more people like him ❤️ thank you and merry Christmas

Good for football and good bartenders but for nights out just not good. The dj plays the same playlist every weekend and doesn't listen to anyone's recomendation for songs. The dancefloor is usually empty except new years.
