The Rising Sun Pub, Stanwell in Spelthorne

Found the pub in our hour of need due to being locked out of the car, after arriving back in the uk. Couldn’t have been more friendly and kind. Gave us both hot drinks on the house, chargers for the phones and even used their phone to make some calls for us. 10/10 on customer service. Highly highly recommend. Thank you!!

Went there on Halloween, and it was so dead that even George A. Romero couldn't resurrect it. It has about as much life as the Lake of Dispear in the Gulf of Mexico.

The food was good for pub grub The service was excellent and friendly. The decore was that of an East end pub and the toilet was shabby. oOver all good value for monety. Will visit again

Good beer. Food is so much better now. Staff friendly. Good parking. Good choice of areas to watch sports on TV. In general it is probably the best pub in the area.

We visited whilst staying locally before a Heathrow flight last month. This place doesn't look like any more than a locals bar. However, the staff were very polite and helpful and made us most welcome. Also, the prices were a very pleasant surprise.

We stopped here for a drink,on a day out. Fortunately, it was warm enough to sit outside, as the inside was not inspiring at all. One of us ordered a pint of Ruddles and I was asked to have a sip, as my son wasn’t sure about it, and it tasted musty, I returned the drink and politely told the barman it didn’t taste right, there was about just under a quarter drank. The barman didn’t question, but filled up another glass half full obviously because the pint wasn’t full when we returned it. I took it out and it tasted just the same, he left it the rest of us drank then went off. The drink definitely didn’t taste right, an apology would have been welcomed in addition to being offered another ale. Not the best Greene King pub. Would not recommend

This pub is the ONLY pub I will perform at as I feel that it is so friendly. The staff are great fun and very quick to serve. The customers are a great bunch of local friendly people who know how to have fun. Everyone welcome here.

Spent Christmas Eve night here with my husband. Great laughs, fun atmosphere and fabulous staff. The lovely landlady Joan is welcoming and accommodating. Had a great night out here, great way to kick off Christmas! Slainte!

I have to say a massive thank you to all the staff here for providing excellent service and making it a great night every time we are there! I live almost 90miles away from this pub and I consider it my local! The punters are all brilliant and I have never left without a smile on my face! Fantastic selection of beers, wines and spirits and plenty of free parking right outside and down the street! Love it!

For nearly ten years we have been driving past The Rising Sun Pub. We often wondered what it was like and went there yesterday. The Pub is quite small and old fashioned - a typical English Pub. The guy behind the bar (Steve I believe) was so friendly, super efficient and made us welcome. I think some of the regulars thought 'who are these people', especially as we had decided to sit ourselves at the bar. When we got there it wasn't busy but soon filled up with punters, keen to watch the Liverpool v Fulham game and the FA Cup's Millwall v Brighton, making for a fantastic atmosphere. We would have eaten but I had already prepared a dinner so we just had a couple of drinks and nuts. My Partner loves John Smith, which is so rarely available in Pub's nowadays and I love Thatchers cider so that was an extra bonus and the drinks were really cheap. We will definitely go back and also hope to take our friends there, who are arriving from Australia in four weeks time. We stayed with them for a month last March so we want to reciprocate as much as possible in four short days. A busy program but a visit to The Rising Sun is a must.

Served its 3 fold purpose. Mainly watching the Spurs V Arsenal lunchtime game whilst waiting for my son’s plane to come in at terminal 4 and have some food and drink whilst doing so. Staff were very friendly and although it seemed a local estate pub all the people there were friendly enough. The pub needs a makeover but had a good atmosphere. Food tbh wasn’t great. Reminded me of school dinners but it wasn’t extortionate and it served a purpose. If I’m ever in the area again I would definitely revisit.

I have been visiting the rising su. Pub the last 2 years and I gotta say it is right up there ! Bar staff are incredibly professional and easy going and the bar manager Joan is lovely ! The service is exceptional and drink are at a good price. Can't complain when you're guaranteed a good night out on a Friday or Saturday night with the music and great company. 5* goes to the rising Sun pub, stanwell !

This was my second year spending New Years at the Rising Sun and I had such a brilliant night! Fair priced drinks. Had a great laugh with the bar staff nothing but good service from Joan, Sharon and Steve. Will defo be coming back for New Year’s Eve!

Great pub and fantastic pub food ! Food is back on and the Sunday roast is epic again as before. (Sunday roasts are now 1200-1800 hrs but get there before 1700 hrs...) I had the beef. Nice cuts (not pre cut slices but actual food meat). The food is great pub food and well worth the trip. Great friendly pub with absolutely no grief which is why I go there. Not been for a while and the food made it worth while too. Maybe I’ll be back more now. Decent staff who can have a laugh to. Nice clean crisp beers. Bikers meets during the week by all accounts and a free jukebox.... I’ll be back.(22/7/18)

Was here before board outside said new chef and menue, food not as good as before pub was dirty and landlady seemed drunk

Joan at her best being the best host you could expect, She has her own halo above her head that every time she talks to you your worries disappear. It's always a pleasure just to sit and listen

We found it difficult to find a hotel with meals near our Stanwell Village accommodation on a Tuesday night until we were directed to the Rising Star Pub where we Australians enjoyed typical English pub meals. The food was filling and reasonably priced, even for Australians with such a poor exchange rate. We'd definitely eat there again.

What can I say what ever day or night I visit the Rising Sun. It's always a joy to see so many have people enjoying an evening out wether it's social or business. This is my local I wouldn't swap it if you paid me. Every visit is different. Thursday evenings there's a bike night for all you wannabe bikers, Friday night's there could be a DJ or a Band you never know Joan and Gary are there to provide a superb service. Its worth the wait just to see her smile. There are a lot of charity night's all going towards good causes. Everyone gets involved why don't you. You don't have to be regular you just need to there when the time is right

Hemos comido en dos ocasiones cuando ella tener una escala local. Es un pub local con una clientela local típica. La comida que tenía era el típico de un pub de esta naturaleza. Los tamaños de porción eran nada especial, pero la comida era abundante y barato. Sin duda lo recomendaría si te alojas cerca. También está a poca distancia de nuestro alojamiento

Visitamos el Sol Naciente durante nuestra parada en Heathrow por la noche en un Bed & Breakfast, que local había recomendado a nosotros. El Sol Naciente es un típico pub local, gente amable y personal y bastante concurrida. La comida saliendo de la cocina parecía fresco y sabroso. Tuvimos la pierna de cordero con salsa, guisantes y puré de patata. Muy sabrosa.

Walked here from our B & B, Heathrow Cottages, Folks friendly,Good food...I always get fish and most delicious.

I reviewed this establishment almost two years ago. This was only our second visit whilst in transit to Heathrow Airport. We went for an early evening meal. This is not a smart establishment, but it is popular with the locals and there was a nice warm welcome from the staff. We had drinks and two delicious meals. My wife had the lamb shank and I chose the homemade steak and onion pie, served with great chips and a huge jug of tasty gravy. Great wholesome pub food and very reasonable. There is not a lot choice in Stanwell, but this would be my first choice.

Visited here as enjoyed it before. This time we more than enjoyed it we loved it. We found out they had new owners and they were really great in attending to every single details. Faultless and highly recommended.

Good beer, good value pub grub. Although not a 'gastro pub' the food is basic but good if you want feeding and a pint or three..I have eaten there 4 nights this week and found the staff and other customers friendly enough, no sign of any 'rowdies' . If I'm ever back in the area I'd visit again.

We were staying at a local B&B and they said it was a pub that served food.The beer was good and the people in the pub friendly.So we placed an order for some food.... we wish we had not!It was well over cooked and the service was poor.Go here for a good pint and enjoy, but not the food.

Stayed at a hotel in stanwell, wanted a pub with people in it, after going to 2 others found this one. Good beer, great menu and lovely food.

We were looking for another pub which has since closed down so we drove around to the next on, there was a sign in the doorway `No food available whilst redecorating' so we asked a customer where we could eat and he directed us to `The rising sun'it was a bit of a working mans pub TV, Football etc but we found a corner table and ordered from a comprehensive menu, well what can I say our meals were served up really hot on hot plates, plenty of it and loverly grub! Décor not as nice as a restaurant but we enjoyed being there, parking easy as in a cul-de sac on edge of airport, we've added it to our `Tasty pub' list.

Were staying in a B&Q nearby for the night and the landlady recommended this place. Whilst I thought the meal was not just "average" it wasn't "very good" it was somewhere in between. My husband had pie and chips and I had that fishcakes which we both enjoyed. There was a mountain of chips on both plates but no salad garnish on mine which would actually have been nice. Saying all that if we stay in Stanwell again we would eat here.

The Rising Sun pub is a great pub , I have been coming here for over 30 years .. Once you get to know the locals they make you feel very welcome .. The staff over the years have always been very pleasant and I've seen many team changes .. Mary must top the charts as an example of good staff .. The food and drink ( real ale included ) has always been excellent ..

We were staying in a B&B nearby so chose this pub as it was within walking distance, the menu was worrying large (never a good sign!) but we chose simple food thinking we'd be safe.The meal was unmemorable, the pub is in need of a facelift, tired upholstery and uncomfortable seating.Certainly I wouldn't visit again, next time it has to be worth walking further and hopefully having a better experience!

Went there after work for a meal and it was a bad decision. Chose fish and chips and was served a plate of undesirable fish product. Service was poor and bar staff did not really want to be bothered. Recently moved to the area, but have been going elsewhere since my visit here. Thankfully another place in the area is much better.

Although this is probably the best pub in the area to get a bite it's still not great. Had fish and chips which I think were out of a packet, ok enough for the price, kind of what pub food was like 10-15 years ago. Is what it is. Nice enough small village pub.

Excellent local pub which serves very good food. We visit once a week and the food and service is consistently excellent.

Having read other reviews and we're staying locally we decided it was a must to try. Although having dressed up for the evening I was very overdressed, however a fantastic band and a very enjoyable meal would highly recommend

We were tired and hungry and walked to this pub on the recommendation of our hostess. Service was friendly and prompt, but what really stood out was the quality of the food. My fish was a huge portion, with fries and peas to go with it. Everything was hot. The locals were fun for interaction.

Felt like locals in this pub everyone mega friendly .food was fantastic , great atmosphere loved the place .very much looking forward to visiting again next time we fly from heathrow airport .

Food isn't that good, mayonnaise and ketchup out of a plastic tube, (and was out of date) new owners, so things may have improved, but its a good pint, not quiet pub, but if you want that then its the wrong place to be as its right next to the airport and a busy main road that is used for cargo trucks

I know this pub very well and the cook thier is excellent, very hard working and the meals are of great value. Never have I seen a bad meal out of this pub and all reviews previous to may/june are praising.Not a reasturant but a pub that serves good pub food.Can not comment on the manager as I havent met them as for the locals a majority of them are 100 percent.

Ordered some food and it came out luke warm. They said that they could heat it up for me but can't say I'd be happy with my food being microwaved (if for a 2nd time) One guy was quite unpleasant which I think the staff called him Toby or Tony, something similar to that. One comment I do agree on is the draught did seem a little watered down aswell. Will choose another local from now on.

I think there are are a few people that have been asked to give bad reviews due there friends are no longer work there after drinking there for the last 46 years I think someone has an axe to grind

What was supposed to be a nice Sunday lunch for my dad's birthday turned out to be a disaster thanks to the pub manager. The food was good however the service was extremely poor due to the fact that I was trying to enjoy my evening but I felt uncomfortable because the bar manager was giving me sleazy looks, especially since he was standing there with a woman which appeared to be his partner. I wouldn't recommend this pub to any of my female friends.

Locals obviously love their local pub.Bit noisy for us especially with tv on.It was convenient for our stay at a local B and B which was great.

Me and my friend popped in here for a few drinks, well what can i say what a big mistake! The offensive language that was used by the owner and the Racist jokes i was absolutley appalled by.. But that was just the start.. He constantly dissapeared outside every 5 mins to have a fag and when i said to my friend , they dont seem to be very friendly or here much, he told me if i didnt like his pub then to 'f off elsewhere as he dont need my custom'.. Well that was it that done it for me. I was digusted.. Never again shall i be visiting there for a drink .. It ruined my night completley!

this by far has to be the worst pub I've been to! the customer service was appalling, the manager spent more time smoking outside then actually looking after the customers. the food was okay apart from the fact I found a hair in my food, and it took the manager over 30mins to bring me a new plate and didn't even have the decency to apologise. worst pub I've been to, manager was absolutely rude and arrogant.

I went to this pub last month and everytime I brought a drink it was getting more and more exapensive everytime either that or he was short changing me also the drinks were weak like there was no alcohol at all in them and everytime my boyfriend would go to the toilet the bar manager would try hint on me

This establishment is clearly a locals pub, but nevertheless the warmth of welcome to strangers to the area was great. The staff are happy to help, the choice of food is extensive; the quality is really good and wholesome. We had a lamb shank and a lasagne both of which were delicious. Don't expect a fancy setting, it is just a pub, but that said if I lived locally I would be happy to dine here every week. The specials board is amazing. We left very satisfied to return to the guest house we were staying at which is nearby (Heathrow Cottages..see separate review)

Service and food were good and customers were a friendly and fun-loving group. It was a bit loud but I felt so at home there that it just seemed part of the atmosphere.

Visited the Rising Sun about a month for Sunday lunch, with family and a friend. Not been here in years, staff were friendly , We all decided to have the Sunday Roast, there was lots of other choices,When our lunch arrived it was massive and have to say the best roast dinner we had in years.Will be returning very soon.

We went there yesterday four of us for lunch after quite a heavy day walking around a fishing show.Found the staff very helpful great pint of beer wine very reasonable price and food was great will be going back without doubt.

awaiting a flight back home we thought we would try some local ambience. but Oh No we seemed to walk into a bar from a different world, Rude bar staff and when i complained i was met by the manageress i think, and oh my lordy was very rude to me and my family. we ended up leaving and waiting in the terminal thankfully this was not our experience of London as a whole. In some ways difficult to review. Stepping inside I felt I was going back to the 80s but of course no cigarettes. Traditional tables and chairs, red patterned carpet, 4 tv screens. Friendly barman, well kept doombar beer, decent red wine, good menu all the expected dishes. We had ham egg and chips and cottage pie. The pie came with 5 veg. For convenience( 5 mins from our b&b) and good value £5.95 each couldn't fault it. Just don't go for a romantic special occasion.

visited this place during our stop over in heathrow and we had a good meal overall. Beer was also very good. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed. easy walk from our bandb in stanwell.
