We were there for Christmas Day at 12. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Unfortunately we didn’t get our main meal until 2pm. The turkey was beautifully cooked and there was plenty. I feel there should have been more veg. We had 2 carrots a lot of cauliflower cheese which was great a little cabbage and a few sprouts which were like bullets. You couldn’t put your fork in them. The soup and Christmas pud was lovely but I was disappointed with the main meal and the time we had to wait between each course.

It was very dissapointing to say the least I went with my friend for an enjoyable night out. There was no one inthe place at all which says alot. My food I ordered the steak and ale pie which was so so hard it was inedible the meat was dry had to leave it the chips looked and tasted like they had been warmed up for days. My friends meal a quice was better but the chips were the same they also said said they had run out of peas?? The night was not a success we certainly will not be going back. They did not offer any replacement dinner or any refund.

Booked a table for a Sunday roast. The staff were very helpful. The roast was very good and a bargain price as there was an offer in place. The pub is easy to find in a rural setting with plenty of space for parking. The choice of beer was good. The pub was very busy so make sure to book a table able if you want a sit down meal.

I’ve not been in here for some time. Went with in-laws for lunch and was not disappointed. Food, steak and ale pie and a vegetarian tart was good with salted chips and very decent frozen peas. I’d recommend you try the chips before salting them yourself. More than enough food for me. A pang to see Directors Bitter on tap as I was driving but the Memsahib had one and gave it the thumbs up. We used to keep a narrowboat at the marina here so used to be a regular call and I well remember the steak and Stilton pie ( just a suggestion) that always sold out in a flash. Yes, we’ll be back.

Sunday November 10th teatime with family and two grand children for my partners birthday. Greeted by very friendly staff. Pub had been modernised since i last went. The Sunday lunch was 2 for £20 very good value if that is what you wanted. The Sunday menu is very limited for other choices. The Sunday online menu needs updating for choices. What a shame the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and the vegetables were overcooked, the carrots and swede were actually mush. The meat was delicious, melted in your mouth and the mashed potato was lovely. The sticky Toffee and chocolate fudge cake puddings were a generous size although custard was lukewarm. Sent it back to be warmed, came back exactly the same. 😔 I didn't complain as didn't want to make a fuss. The plates were cleared before I had finished my pudding which in my opinion is bad manners, and let the pub down in my opinion. Shame.

Visited most nights over a week and can only praise the ambiance and cosiness of the place plus the special offers on Ales. Superb leather Chesterfield chairs in the corner added to the pleasure and are a must try. Fellow patrons were also friendly and relaxed, if you want the country pub feeling in this area this place ticks all the boxes.

Hi I visited Sunday 20/10/24 for a booking @ 3pm.When we arrived we were asked how many of us would be dinning. My daughter informed the amount and was told that’s ok anymore you would need to wait. This was booked a week ago. When we were seated the young lady asked if we required a drink and took the order. This was very quick in coming to the table. We were then asked what we would be eating and advised there was no beef left but there was turkey and ham.We all ordered the mixed turkey/ham Sunday lunch. This took 35 minutes to arrive at the table, when it did arrive we were told there was no ham. My plate of food consisted of two batons of carrot, two stems of Brockley eight green beans, one roast potato and portion of mash which the turkey was sitting on.Also two small Yorkshire puddings. These seemed to be the ones you buy in a pack from supermarket. Other customers on the next table had what looked like homemade. The young lady serving us five minutes after serving brought out a bowl with more roasties in. We had no stuffing no parsnips which were shown on the menu. We were asked if we would like another drink which we ordered these never came. We all had sweet both my daughter and I had sticky toffee pudding and custard the custard was warm not hot. Very disappointed with our experience after reading some reviews.

Lovely looking pub in a tranquil area and a lovely atmosphere with other boaters and locals. Unfortunately that’s where our good experience ended when the food came out. Starters were great with the mushrooms on ciabatta and spicy carrot soup but when the main course eventually came out 3 of us ordered the Daddy burger ( although only 2 came out. We got the 3rd in a doggy bag) which if I said was disappointing would be a massive understatement. The chicken leek and ham pie my wife had looked like it had been squashed and didn’t had much filling. It was more like a cheap frozen pie. We were going to stop longer for a dessert but opted against it as we were so disappointed with the main. There was some restoration work going on so not sure if that had something to do with limitations on what can be cooked but even then the standard was well below par. The staff were pleasant and friendly and couldn’t be faulted.

Wow wow wow, what else can I say? Came in for a roast a few drinks and was not disappointed. Staff were really attentive, and whilst the place was really busy, they quickly managed to sort a table for the 4 of us. First things first, I had a pint of pedigree, hadn't had one I ages and was not disappointed, best pint I've had in ages, I tried a boondoggle as well which was really top pint - so very happy indeed and set the scene for a good meal. 3 of us had roasts and 1 fish and chips. The fish and chips looked very good indeed. The roast though was amazing, great selection of veg, amazing mash, crisp roast potatoes which had a quick of flavouring giving them an extra edge, then the lovely rich gravy, but all overshadowed by the star of the show, the beef - best roast beef I've had at a restaurant. Couldn't resist the cheesecake which was top quality. We stayed for a few drinks, the atmosphere was buzzing. We will certainly be back again soon.

We called and made a booking and the barman was excellent. Made the booking and asked regarding dietary requirements. We arrived to what was once a bustling pub empty on a Sunday lunch and this should have been our first red flag Upon entering the 2 front facing staff were wonderful and professional and started by apologising there would be a wait on food as the chef was on his own. I explained as someone preferring fresh homecooked food even though the pub was empty we'd expect a wait. How wrong could we be! Whilst waiting a disgruntled customer left having explained to tell the chef to get another job they'd not be back. Starters arrived black pudding stack. Luke warm but edible and fine for the £6 charged. The mains arrived and at £16 for beef brisket it was abysmal. The gravy was cold and like cornflour. So thick it was like jam on the knife. The mass potatoes tepid at best but glue consistency and the asparagus tips were *fridge cold*. I called the staff over explaining after the last customers out burst I didn't want to make a scene and microwaving wasn't an issue. They took it full of apologies microwaved it but it came back colder than before. By this point I accepted 2/3rds of the meal was inedible, didn't want to create more of a scene for the staff I'd already witnessed abused and picked at what I could When they collected the plates I kindly and calmly explained that the meal was the worst I'd ever had. That I absolutely didn't blame the staff or a chef on his own obviously struggling but management. Again they looked resolved to it, embarrassed and apologetic and cleared the plates. 5 minutes later the waitress reappeared. She said she'd spoken to her manager and the best they could offer was £5 off. I'd not asked for nor either expected a discount but as someone who'd run pubs feedback for what is obviously a once bustling renowned now failing gastro pub feedback is important. However again this only served to seriously make me feel disgruntled. Bad service I could accept, bad food occasionally it happens, bad management in hospitality there's absolutely no excuse. If the manager was available to speak to a staff member why didn't they make themselves available to the customers! We paid, the person before us paid albeit they did it vocally. Why were the staff taking the brunt? It's a beautiful pub. The staff were lovely and trying their best. I'm sure with support the chef would do a good job. If we lose this as another beautiful pub gone it's down to yet another failed, lazy manager who's already quietly quit. Sundays should be your busiest day. Be visible and be available to your staff and customers. Don't hide upstairs or wherever you were.

Booked a table on Sunday for the following Wednesday for a small group of walkers, 6-8 of us plus dog. Told that would be fine, asked if we had any dietary requirements and then emailed us the menu so our gluten free friend could choose from it. So far so good. However, on arrival on the Wednesday we were totally ignored by the chap behind the bar. He went and spoke to the only other customers (4) and then disappeared. When he returned he said he had no knowledge of our booking. After waiting for 10 minutes we were informed that we might be served in an hour's time. We left and went to a neighbouring pub where we were greeted warmly and fed promptly. Sorry but we won't be back.

My wife chose Lasagne, which she said was fine. My sandwich has got to be one of the worst I've tasted. I don't know how you can make bacon so tough unless reheating day after day. A Wednesday early evening. Disappointing food quality and menu options compared to the pictures on their Facebook page. Must be a change of chef/cook? Previously very good quality food although this was weekend visits. Atmosphere not good with ĺoud swearing individual dropping the f word frequently at the bar. Food served by an individual that wreaked of stale cigarettes. EDIT In response to the owners comments 1) I was not rude. 2) The whole pie was not eaten. The pastry was mainly inedible like concrete - cooked twice? 3) Correct, we did not pay for the meal, which was only fair AND you did offer to refund the drinks which I declined as there was nothing wrong with the drinks - so I'm being fair. 4) If you had checked back sooner I would have told you there was a problem. In summary it was a poor experience compared to previous visits which I gave good praise for at the time. The food served today was not worthy of a two for a tenner offer I expected better. You also fail to answer the other points raised such as the foul language by a customer when children were present.

We went for a walk along the canal which was just up the road and afterwards we went to the Rising Sun for some lunch. We tried the three snacks for £10. There was a choice of 10 or 12 dishes to choose from. There were three of us and we ordered 3 each, as they were snacks and we were really hungry.. Lovely food, but 3 dishes each was way too much. Our fault though, eyes to big for our bellys 🤣🤣 The service and staff in the pub were very helpful and very friendly. The atmosphere was good too. We will definitely be going back, but won't be so greedy 🤣🤣🤣👍

The staff were superb, friendly, efficient, really lovely (5 stars). The Sunday roast was disappointing. Cauliflower cheese fairly bland and missing the lovely grilled top. Chicken, 2 slithers, dry. Overcooked Yorkshire puds. Overall lacked flavour. Such a shame.

After reading lots of reviews to find a decent place to meet my friend for lunch we settled on The Rising Sun. 4/2/23 I drove from Birmingham. My friend and I are 'foodies' and really appreciate good food know what we like and certainly dislike and will voice our opinions both good and not so.. We had starters of pate and bruscetto (sorry unsure of spelling?) They were lovely, generous portions. We opted for the Sea Bass with a pineapple relish, baby potatoes samphire and kale..My goodness it was EXCELLENT! Very well presented and piping hot. We each had a desert which were very good indeed. The service from Terri and team couldn't be faulted, friendly and quick. Prices were also more than reasonable; Ambiance welcoming. We left very happy indeed. Very well done to the whole team at the Rising Sun. As Arnie said...'I'll be back' (even though its quite a jaunt from Brum!)

Our first visit to this lovely rural pub and it won't be the last by any means. Good range of real ales, lagers and ciders, all in tip top condition made for a pleasant stay regardless of whether you were dining or not. But add the food and you are in for a treat, beautifully cooked, perfectly presented and generous proportions. Our sandwiches from the snacks menu and gammon from the main meals selection were excellent and looking around the meals were being enjoyed by everyone. They have a dog friendly area and off road parking and if you go for lunch don't plan for anything other than a contented afternoon nap ! We'll be back.

One of our favourite places to visit for Sunday lunch the food is outstanding and the homemade Yorkshire puddings are nearly bigger than the plate! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is so cosy especially when the fire is roaring! An extra shout out to the young gentleman who works in and out of the kitchens serving food - what an incredibly polite young man he is, he really makes me smile with his superb customer service. Always a pleasure to drop by and we shall see you all in the New Year.

This is a great cafe on all fronts. I have eaten there many times over the years and the food quality, content, presentation and innovation are first class. The effort put in to maintain this standard by the owner and staff must be immense but the customers benefit - a rare thing to find these days And to top it all their Bloody Mary is awesome! Check it out and enjoy yourself
