Gorgeous pub ....nice to see it open again

Nice inside but needs a warmer atmosphere.

Unfortunately at the moment it's piggy backing on the back of the Leopard. Staff need a bit more training. You need to pour off some cask beer at the start of your shift otherwise it gives people bad guts and makes people feel nauseous. Off beer is never a good thing, no matter how much you try and penny pinch when starting out. And purely based on this, I will not be going back. 11 quid for those tiny portions of dirty fries from a kitchen that's not set up yet is just too much.

We visited the Lower Chequer for drinks on a Friday night and the first thing we noticed was the friendly atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the drinks were very reasonable compared to other places in Sandbach. We didn't eat there so couldn't comment on the food. They had some great live entertainment with a singer which was enjoyed by a lot. The toilets however were very unpleasant which would be my main negative about the experience.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Great value and super tasty. The pub is full of character and service could not be more friendly and helpful!

We popped in on the off chance of Sunday lunch. They were heavily booked but managed to squeeze us in. The staff are lovely (especially the blonde barman - he asked us to say). We both ordered the lamb roast. It was huge! £14.95 for several slices of lamb, roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding (definitely home made), stuffing, roast carrot and parsnip, swede and carrot mash, cauliflower cheese (delicious) and cabbage. Extra gravy on the side too! It was a challenge to finish it all but we rose to it! Great food, lovely friendly staff and very happy and full customers. We will be back!!

What a little gem! Myself and my partner are new to the area and have found our new local. Staff are lovely, owners are a beautiful couple and the homemade Sunday dinners feel like coming home, absolutely stunning.

Super Sunday lunch. I'm veggie and only option was trad Sunday lunch, but with no meat, but it was really tasty and they made vegan gravey for me.

Excellent Sunday dinner today. Fantastic value, lovely food, and great service. 7 adults & 2 kids, so not the easiest group to deal with, but the Lower Chequer staff were on top form today. Thanks very much

A great pub where you can chill. The staff are welcoming, and locals are lovely to be with. One can easily sit there as the drinks are good, too.

Good, friendly local pub offering well kept Joule's beer

Drinkers pub at the top of a cobbled street reminiscent of the Hovis advert. Done out with all sorts of vintage stuff inside, including some impressive taxidermy - the cross eyed boar's head a particular favourite. Lofty stools give an excellent view of the bar and sky sports on the telly, a definite plus point of the saloon.

Very small and taken up with the local blokes when the footies on but the staff are very welcoming nonetheless. Great stop point before moving on

Stunningly refurbished and decorated .Full of character quirky and cosy too.Dog friendly with doggie treats how cute.Fabuloue outside area for those hot summer nights. I took my grandson he loved it . The landlady had board games for him to play with ☆☆☆☆☆

Characterful old pub, well kept real ale. Sadly about to close, temporarily I hope, as the tenant is leaving and no successor yet apparently (Nov 21).

I like to watch Everton in the pub, this is by far the most civilized of the pubs in town to watch the match, friendly crowd, no hassle and good beer. if only they served food all the time

It was a pleasure visiting here especially chatting with the loquacious lovely female manager. Good conversation with her especially regarding real ales and the history of the building.A pleasure to walk around the pub and enjoy the log burner and the beautifully wood panelled walls.

This Early Tudor building has my name written all over it. Original beams, log fire and red wine. Match made in heaven. A very informative land lady who told us it was the oldest building in Sandbach and gave us an interesting story about the ghost in the cellar ! Stumbled by this by chance, definitley worth a visit. Just a tip, if you love the fire be prepared to be in charge of it . Love this place

Excellent pub great staff and atmosphere

A pub with a great atmosphere and nice old world atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the beer was the excellent Joules ales. Sports TV in one room Only gripe is that it was more than a little pricey compared with the other pubs.

Don’t serve food except on Sunday lunchtimes. Nice old pub, think it’s more a drinking pub. It was very quiet when we went on a Saturday lunchtime. Disappointed that we’d been given that it serves lunches and it doest.

The Lower Chequer is a fabulous pub. It is in an attractive old building dating from 1570 and has a gorgeous interior with beautiful wood panels and beamed ceilings. It has a couple of simple, but beautiful bars and, most importantly, has a really nice atmosphere. Add the fact that they also have superb Joule’s ales (a new one for me) and very good service, and this is a superb pub.During our two day visit to this lovely town we sampled most of the town centre pubs and, in my opinion, The Lower Chequers was the best by a country mile.

I'm not gonna lie, I miss it being a free house, but Joules pubs are always lovely, apart from maybe the Lord Hill in Drayton! Which is a great pub too but a bit more traditional with the footie on etc. This pub is less like the sweet shop for beer drinkers it once was, but now its nicer inside and still a pleasure to drink in.

Nice place prices are expensive though

My partner and I popped in for a quick glass of wine. We both ordered a medium sized white. We were charged over £9. We won't be returning.

Place is slightly off peoples Rader which is a shame. Warming environment, very chilled. Its small inside so can get busy quickly! Good beer, lovely snacks and would certainly recommend to give it a try.

Great little pub run by people who clearly care. A short menu of simple food and pretty well just roasts on Sunday with a couple of sandwich options. Dogs allowed which is a boon for us.

Called in last Sunday for a late lunch

Slightly offset from the main square, it has a lovely outdoor seating area. Landlord is exceptionally nice and accommodating, stocking a brilliant selection of beers and spirits.

No ha sido en el Chequer para burros años aunque es más o menos en nuestra puerta. La distribución es diferente a lo que solía ser, pero decir que es mucho mejor. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida de la casera y Conocimos algunas personas que sabíamos. Así que tuvimos una buena abiertas climatizando natter y viejos tiempos.

No es tanto la comida, aunque sus noches especiales son excelentes (Tailandés, indio, griego, etc.) así como la 'comida de pub' - es más todo el ambiente de la inferior. Chequer La dirección es excelente y casi siempre presente que hace un cambio enorme. La cerveza es buena (Julios junto al huésped que son cervezas cada semana) y el vino también es buena, ambiente encantador y Callum hace los mejores rollitos de salchicha (extras un viernes por la noche temprano puertas!). Ojalá que siga así de largo, si puedes.

The management are so welcoming and friendly I highly recommend a visit. Fab with kids, lots of specials on. We were offered free nibbles which was a nice surprise

Situado al lado de la vieja iglesia, en una tranquila calle de adoquines, con su propio bloque montaje fuera, este pub es una delicia. La arquitectura interna también es precioso. El personal y los clientes que conocimos fue estupendo y muy amable. Este es un pub de julios y las cervezas y largers son especiales. Recomiendo venir aquí y combinar la visita con pasear por el (muy) ciudad cercana plaza que es pintoresca y contiene algunas cruces (creo) Saxon.

I've eaten in here a few times, and it's simply good value home cooked food, with a good selection of beers. Very friendly staff, and a real "locals" pub. An extra point awarded for friendliness. Sadly can be a bit empty at times.

was a lovely pub with proper character then was taken over and re done inside with pretend old stuff not good lost its soul still sells good beers from different micro breweries which gives you lots of choice dosnt see to do its beer festivals anymore and is now trying to do food lets dogs in which is good nice pub bujt not one i would go to every week bar staff good

New tenants offering a genuine welcome and making a real effort to provide a quality service. Excellent Joules ales including the understandably popular Slumbering Monk. The lunchtime menu is simple and offers excellent home cooked food at a very reasonable price. The soup and pie of the day "meal deal" offers great value and is always very good. The hosts are also organising themed nights such as a Greek food banquet and a Joules brewery visit. The Lower Chequer must be the most improved pub/restaurant in Sandbach.
