Absolutely love this place! The roasts are a firm favourite! The team are always so friendly and welcoming. It is great in the summer with the massive beer garden (especially when the beer festivals are on!) and cosy in the winter with the log fire burning away. We used the function room upstairs for a family get together and it was perfect, there was 15 of us, and little ones, and we had the space to ourselves, it just made it so much easier. I have also used the back of the garden for my daughter's 1st birthday party in the summer and it was just perfect. Thank you for just being great!

The rising sun holds some great events, this weekend we went to the beer festival, it was well run, the different choice of beers & ales was incredible, the outside area is so pretty, if you’re looking for a place to drink in these winter months head to the rising sun, food is pretty decent to. I am a regular visitor to The Rising Sun. The kitchen is the best pub kitchen locally and the bar is well stocked for the majority of choices. Staff are unfailingly courteous and easy going as well as being efficient. Others normally go for the Roast on a Sunday or we take steak in the week. Only niggle was last meal fried everything. Rather than boiled new potatoes with Sea Bass. Heartly recommended.

Great pub in Epsom, definitely well managed by Max and the team. Food is great especially their Steak Nights every Thursday. They always have a great selection of beer on. Despite not being owned by the Big Smoke brewery now, they still do their beers on tap, which is great. The atmosphere is always lively especially for locals like me and of course you can bring your dog and they will always get attention and treats from the staff, all good factors in a pub.

A nice residential area pub that was very busy the day we were there with a couple of functions going on so lots of 'family' about. A sizeable beer garden out the back and a function room upstairs provides lots of usage options and the pub is decidedly dog friendly. The Guinness was excellent and the Anspach & Hobday's Ordinary Bitter was OK.

Family and dog friendly pub. The snag though is that getting to the gents (upstairs) involves a fair amount of caution with kids running around, and dogs on leads blocking the way from the bar while their owners are oblivious. Beer was alright.

Took the 406 / 418 from Surbiton to check out one of the newer Big Smoke pubs. The classic winning formula, reclaiming old local pubs and transforming them with a consistent aesthetic but somehow retaining the integrity of the pub before it. Originally a beer house, The Rising Sun first became a pub around 1870. It's the founding place and meeting point to this day for the Epsom Cycling Club since 1891. And in 1963, pre-CAMRA, the "Society for Preservation of Beer from the Wood" was set up here, although now remains more of a social club. It's later years it was referred to as "The Japanese Embassy" too, due to the Japanese Flag that used to hang outside of it - whether anyone still calls it that, given the absence of a flag, I don't know. Back to the present day pub though! Cosy, lots of nooks and tables. Fire was roaring. Families and couples throughout. Hesitant to pap unsuspecting punters for this, so just pointed the empty spaces to give a feel. The usual Big Smoke suspects on offer, but while a Harvey's Best Bitter and Big Smoke Underworld on cask were extremely tempting. Opted for old faithful Deya Steady Rolling Man, repeat order x5 plz. The food game is top tier pub grub. Baby Back BBQ ribs have kept me full for a few days since, and the sides and veggie options are plentiful. The garden needed a bit of love when I went the first time around, it has since been vastly improved. The canopy awnings you see at the other pubs will be brought in here, and outside heaters on the way too. The pub also has an upstairs area, reserved for the rugby on the weekends, which was nice to be able to create that space for those not looking to be surrounded by adults screaming at an egg. Service was warm and inviting as always. Something about a Big Smoke pub (both staff and venue) making you feel like it's your local, even if you've travelled to get there. Find your nearest one, or take a stroll down Epsom Downs and pop in for a pint.

I haven't been to this pub in Epsom before and our Christmas meal was taking place there . I volunteer in Cancer Research and the charity treat volunteers to a lovely Christmas meal out. The place was perfect for a largish group , food was really good. This pub is a cozy local, popular with local residents because, when I arrived a little early, I perched on one of the seats in the area as the rest of the pub was full. I really liked it and another volunteer told me that they have a lovely beer garden outside but it is December and rainy so I'll take their word for it. I really liked the atmosphere and friendly welcoming from the staff when they saw me sitting on my own. We had a very enjoyable evening with food, friends and a funny game of drawing a guided Christmas scene on a paper plate on our heads. Liked the atmosphere. Thank you CRUK. Merry Christmas 🤶 Pricing is only on there because I bought a drink . I can't comment on the pubs usual menu as ours was a set menu and a treat but a nice venue for a works do with friendly staff and a pleasant place to be

I had recently started to go to this pub with friends just for drinks, but one evening we decided to get food too. I chose the Big Smoke Burger, which came with pulled pork, smoked cheddar, pickles, and fries on the side. The aged beef was moist, flavoursome, and not overcooked or dry, and along with the tasty marinated brisket, made a decent meaty combination. The cheese and pickles added more depth and flavour to complete the burger. The fries were crispy and had a nice coating around them. So overall, a good experience...but why the 4 stars then? Well, for £16.45 I just don't believe I was getting my money's worth...for what I paid there should have been more fries, instead of limiting them to that small cup they came in. Also, there should have been another side option included too...maybe a choice of coleslaw, onion rings, small corn on the cob, ecc. As you can see, the dish looks fairly small, and the plate is rather empty from the picture, so that is my only negative. The service is always friendly, relaxed, and professional...so if you're looking for decent grub and a warm atmosphere, then definitely check this place out! Dogs are also welcome. :)

I couldn’t fault our visit here last night. The pub is cosy and had a nice friendly, busy feel. We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived and I thought the two staff we met were both helpful and kind. We felt well looked after. I really enjoyed the classic burger - beautifully cooked and served with some very tasty fries - and my son and daughter enjoyed their ribs and halloumi burger. The ribs had a fabulous glaze and the meat just fell off the bone! I think the only thing I’d add would be to automatically serve a finger bowl of water with those ribs - but that’s very fussy and maybe because I watched my son eating them whilst wearing a white shirt 😁 Would highly recommend and will definitely be wanting to visit again.

If I can give you any advice, it would be to NEVER EVER set foot into this ill managed, disgraceful pub.I booked this pub for my 21st birthday party and paid a hefty deposit. I was promised an email of confirmation, and 3 months later (despite many many phone calls) I did not receive one. When I finally received a confirmation email, I replied to the email and surprise surprise I didn’t get anything back. So 2 weeks before my party, my mum goes to the pub to speak to deebay and Oliver, to find the pub closed. Oliver would not come down to speak to my mum, even though they had a large sum of her money. Obviously we don’t want a birthday party in a pub which isn’t going to be open, so after some time Oliver gave a refund.... but finding a new venue for my 21st birthday party 2 weeks before the date is no mean feat. These people are a disgrace to the pub industry and you should NOT give your hard earned money to these people!!! I would give a 0 rating if I could!!!Yours sincerely, A very unhappy birthday girl

I would strongly advise that no one ever books this pub for a party or function due to the catastrophic let down that occurred todayI paid a substantial deposit for my daughters 21st birthday and was promised many things by Oliver which was then overuled by Deebay ? Part owner I then turn up today to check everything is ok the pub is closed Oliver refuses to come downstairs and talk to me for over an hourA lady arrived and asks if she can help stating she is the co owners ex wife and the pub has been closed by the licence people?? She states her ex husband owns 50% of the pub and gave it to Deebay to be repaid and now she has been locked out of the office by Oliver and Deebay she thinks the pub might open but not sure and she thinks my daughters party can still go ahead but not sure ???? I have ten days to organise a venue now for over 110 people This pub, it’s management and owners are a disgrace to the pub industry and should not be allowed to trade this would stop other people being disappointed by their false promisesI do sincerely hope that my deposit does actually get refunded to my credit card as promised by Oliver !!!!!!!

I came here with my sisters for dinner on a Sunday evening. The pub dining room was empty - we were joined by only 1 other table - so the atmosphere was poor. There were a lot of dishes not available on the main menu and also on the desert menu - of 4 deserts they only had 2! Both me and my sister ordered the salmon for main. It was priced at £15 so I was expecting something really good as that’s pretty pricey for a pub dinner. It was unfortunately incredibly disappointing. The salmon filet was tiny and poorly cooked (the skin wasn’t crispy like it should be). It was served with 2 tiny florets of broccoli and I actually counted the 6 tiny carrot buttons and 4 slivers of asparagus! The only good thing was the mash. It was a shock when the bill came and I grudgingly had to hand over £45 for 3 meals (my other sister had sausage and mash which she said was ok) and 3 soft drinks. We left within an hour and went to Bill’s for desert and a hot drink!

We had travelled a fair distance to Epsom General Hospital to see our first grandchild born in the Bradbury wing. We took a little stroll through the park when we saw this lovely little quiet pub. There weren't many people there but just inside the pub were what I politely call football hooligans I say that because they were shouting EEAGLLES You cannot ban a chelsea fan YIDDOs etc etc. No one came to serve us they to busy "looking after" a guy about my age who was saying look I have told you already there is 5 grand in the account and no your WEE FEE is not working and I have already spent my emergency tenner where's the nice canadian - he was just met with abuse about being pissed. Anyway he calmly said can I have some water then before I leave and I watched nervously pour a glass and the whole lot came down. The lager louts then turned on him but he calmly set off collecting his heavy bags of shopping. The abuse he got was a sign of our times kiddy fiddler paedo turd burglar sausage pirate etc etc but he just walked away. My dear wife said Imagine if we were in San Diego. Well no-one came to serve us as they were now too busy sweeping up glass to make matters I suddenly realised I had left my wallet in the car something I have never done before. So we left and we couldn't even get a glass of water and then just set off on our drive back to Plymouth. It was not such a long journey as usual as we were so happy with seeing our dear little girl. Oh by the way I am a retired naval commander as we drove we joked about our short visit to the land of the rising sun but we argued a little about the quiet man with his shopping - it was obvious he was in the services but we couldn't agree which branch. I thought he would be a captain but she who must be obeyed said major - would we go back no - but our family around the area who are also serving her majesty will be popping in now !

I hadn't been to the Rising Sun but as a relative newbie to the area, it was refreshing to find good food that wasn’t bland but overpriced (given the area) along with service that felt genuinely friendly without being over attentive. Although they'd run out of the key vegetarian meals (for my partner), they rustled up a new version of the veggie pie that was tasty and substantial while my beefburger was delicious. It wasn’t busy for a Saturday night (which I quite liked) even though there was a good band on. But if that's not unusual then I’m sure it's going to get busier under the excellent new management and I look forward to sitting out in the big garden when the weather warms up.

We came across this pub a while ago and have visited over the last few weekends with and without our dogs and always receive a warm welcome - dogs included! New manager Adam seems tireless in his quest for excellent customer service and can only be a huge benefit to this lovely pub..... well worth a visit, or revisit!

Went for night out at our local pub , just after ordering our 2nd drink were told we had to leave as the whole pub was booked out for a wedding reception. There was no indication anywhere, a sign on the door might have helped! Wish we had been told before we’d ordered our drinks. We are locals who are trying to support our failing local pub. Never again, although the lack of atmosphere, glaring lights and ‘Fire Starter’ blaring out on the speakers above our heads didn’t help. it’s back to the Barley Mow for us !

Had to postpone our original Xmas get together. Re-arranged and it worked out great. Some initial concerns, poor communication, but Oliver in the kitchen contacted me and after our phone conversation it felt like it would all be fine. And it was! Great night. Great food. Thank you so much. And thank you for agreeing finances

We recommended this to friends and spent nearly 2 and a half hours trying to get two courses served. Average food, and when we ordered coffee, they said they only had two! As we were 8 we went home for coffee. What a disappointment, it used to be so good

This used to be fantastic, but in the last two weeks standards have fallen. Chicken shish is tough and dry , less meat than before , pitta bread and wrap is hard and often quite inedible. Up until recently I couldn’t fault them so I’m guessing somethings gone wrong.

What a rare and wonderful find. Food was top tier and servings were huge. We stopped in for lunch and we're pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous and quirky interior, and affordable menu. The staff were all super cool, helpful and attentive. The outdoor area is small, cute and full of people and thier dogs. Highly recommend

Been in twice since it reopened with new management. Welcoming, good service, really enjoyed the Sunday roast and plenty of options for children's food. Will definitely return!
