Inviting and comfortable, with quick service and pleasant staff. Good portions, well cooked, nice pub menu at reasonable prices including a lunch menu lower priced. Nice outlook over Epsom green with some outside seating. Parking is limited . Has seating on ground level but also an area downstairs and some upstairs, so if stairs are an issue specify when booking. But they were helpful and accommodating. Bit noisy, as all wooden floors and interior, and loud bell rings when orders are ready ! Well worth a visit. Recommend.

Such a shame how a pub in a great location is run. Food is overpriced - what they are charging for bog standard meal is beyond me, with the prices of food you would expect much better quality. Plenty of other pubs in Epsom offering better quality food at the same price. The menu is boring and hasn’t changed in a good few years. The pub itself is situated in a fanatic area and can be a buzz come warm weather but the inside has not changed in id say nearly a decade if not more. The toilets leave nothing to be desired, they look Edwardian. The pub has been bounced around to many different owners within the last 7-8 years. Each of which seem to have less and less input and do nothing in terms of renovation to the facilities or the menu. It really does have potential but nobody is willing to spend any money and this seems to have been the case for as long as I have been visiting. The only thing decent about this place was the quiz that was run on a Wednesday, has been run by the same person for over a decade and attended by many of the same people too. But now they’ve decided to sack him off also and bring in somebody else under “new management” Some things are just better left untouched. Yet another pub chain coming in with bright ideas yet having no understanding of the community and what people want from a pub. The Cricketers will always attract customers due to the location but my advise would be to save your money and go to one of the other numerous pubs in Epsom to get better food and give your money to a pub that will actually invest in itself. So sad to see how a place with such great memories has had the slate wiped clean.

All I can say is they're lucky I'm forced to rate it 1 star. Awful food, tough meat, dry potatoes, raw veg and most things out of stock. To top it off being made aware of a gluten intolerance and vegetarian dietary requirement - gravy being added to the gluten free dish and then waiting over an hour for a replacement and meat gravy being added to the vegetarian dish. The lack of communication for out of stock food was absolutely awful, serving overcooked steak when the sauces were out of order and not informing customers with time to change their order and serving a 2 year old a huge piece of fish instead of fish fingers. Worst experience ever for a Sunday lunch and birthday celebration!

Absolute worst meal ever! Food completely inedible, a vegetarian meal with meat gravy and then the kitchen lied about it. A barmaid was left in charge by management with no notice. She did her very best to rectify but sister's 40th family lunch was ruined. I came from Devon for this. The kitchen staff need sacking. If I could give minus points I would. I resent having to put one star.

A pub that looks good from the outside and commands a prestigious position in a beautiful area. Then you go inside lol. The food is good to be fair but the vibe isn't great at all and one of the male staff members seems to have a massive chip on his shoulders. A bit of a locals place, enough said.

New went to an afternoon tea, I have an expectation photo ( which I I’ll add ) and I’ll also post photos of what we received, the sandwiches came barely even filled with anything, they brought out our pudding at the beginning which had melted by the time we had finished our sandwiches, which we front eat as it was basically just bread, we still stayed for over two hours and no staff even came up to us and offered us another tea.

I had food here yesterday. The food was good but the service was very poor. I ordered at the bar by a blonde girl who was just abrupt and rude. She was very impatient as if she was very busy but the place was quiet. She was more interested in her phone than the customers. There was tables to be cleared and cleaned whilst she was on her phone. Preciously, we sat at a dirty table and moved to find a clean one. Train your staff or find new ones.

The pub was generally nice and the staff were great. The Lamb roast wasn't great. The lamb meat was nice, the potatoes were below average, the parsnip was inedible (undercooked), all in all I won't be going back for a roast and wouldn't recommend it for one. The burger someone else ordered looked good so maybe it's just the roasts which aren't great.

Having used the Cricketers before with family and friends we were badly let down today 28th November 2024. We had made what we thought was a Christmas Menu booking for a group of friends, we had spoken directly with the pub on two occasions to confirm that they did not require pre-booking or a deposit and were assured that none was needed, we had also requested the upstairs area, but this was not available as there was a wake on up there. When we arrived at 1230 the pub was freezing, and we were downstairs in the coldest place with a constant draught down the stairs, the radiators were on. We started to say we were having the Christmas Menu and told this had to be pre-booked and it was Mr Nobodies fault that we had not been told that, that is after two phone calls checking. Drinks order taken and delivered promptly, after we had ordered the food, the waitress left and then came back and told us some of the menu was unavailable, at this point we made the decision to leave and go elsewhere, there was no apology just pay for your drinks. Such a shame that they let themselves down when they are normally good. Will I rush back NO. Would I advise others to Triple Check before booking YES.

I can't put my finger on why I can't give this more stars. 3.5 is what I'd like but I can't. The pub needs some tlc really, it's looking tired. The lake is more like a big pond and the common is not what I expected. The service was lovely, greeted with a big smile and she was great, so cannot take anything away from the staff. The burger was good, nothing special, feltnit was just missing that something. My wife said the Earth burger was really good though. My main disappointment.... The S'mores, toasted marshmallows... But they were not toasted, they may have been last week but they were cold, clumped together and just the tiny ones you'd add to a hot chocolate. Also the Brownie was cold as well, gutted.

Not Great. This is a classic case of 'that looks like a really nice pub so will probably do a nice lunch...' only to really disappoint. It's a quaint building sandwiched into a semi rural setting overlooking a pond. Sure it looks like a nice place to have a few beers in, nice bar area and ambient. Very friendly (if frantic) service from overstretched staff, but unfortunately the food was really not very good...poor even. Lamb shank and roast turkey....meat was ok in both cases, but the food was just about luke warm, plates were cold, turkey needed way more gravy than the spoonful that appeared to come with it, and the roast potatoes were frankly just horrible....tasted really hard, like they'd been warmed up from the day before... Really wasn't worth going out for...sorry Cricketers, but not good.

Just visited for Sunday Roast. Firstly compliments to the servers - two ladies who found us a table and then served the food ensuring we had all we wanted. The roasts were ok, but the roast potatoes had obviouly been pre-cooked and 'nuked' in the microwave making the skins like tough leather and the inside overcooked. The tenderstem brocolli was anything but tender. Al dente I understand, undercooked and tough I don't. For dessert we had the rhubarb crumble which again had been reheated and 'nuked' in the microwave resulting in a 'wet stodge' rather than a crumble. I have sympathy with a pub kitchen, particularly on a busy Sunday, dealing with orders coming in all the time. The food is either part ruined as above, or it is par-cooked and finished in the oven before serving but creating a delay to patrons. I believe if warned the food is cooked fresh and there may be a wait before serving, this is preferred to food served straight from being 'nuked' and ruined. Last point. If you had no cash or coin, there was no way of giving a tip to the serving ladies. At least two people offered tips whilst we were there to add to the bill but this had to be declined as the system didn't allow it. Come on Stonegate, recognise that these days people don't carry coin or notes for tips and it's all on plastic and make appropriate arrangements so clients can reward good service.

A pub with all the potential in the world sadly let down by how it’s being run. It’s a chaotic mix of bar and table service, neither of which was being done well. If you try and please everyone, you please no one as is the case here. I ordered a pint and a tea at the bar and was told they’d bring the tea to the table. The tea hadn’t come and after 20 minutes I went to the bar and chased it up. It was sat at the end of the bar waiting and the young chap put it on a tray and asked a young female colleague whether it was my tea and they said yes. They both walked off leaving the tray for me to take with no apology or acknowledgement of a long wait. I light as well have waited at the bar for it to be made and taken it myself, but the confused setup here means no accountability and no one knowing what they’re doing at the expense of the customer experience. The customer service here was non existent and there is clearly no leadership or organisation. Worse still the pot of tea only filled a single cup 3/4s as per the photos. What’s the point of the pot? You might as well just serve it by the cup as a pot is supposed to refill the cup provided. The place is run by non pub people who really don’t know what they’re doing. I can’t even say the staff need customer service training as they didn’t have basic manners which should come naturally. Clearly this wasn’t picked up when employing people at the interview stage and not remedied since either. The pub is in a great location, but is an absolute mess in how it’s being run and managed by people who go have no pride in their work. Hopefully it gets taken over by someone who knows what they’re doing such as a proper landlord who actually cares. A woeful experience here and not worth the overinflated prices.

I would not return. I had the Mushroom Wellington and my husband had the roast beef. My granddaughter had the hand battered fish, the only good thing that came to our table. My food was cold so I complained. Clearly they just shoved it in the microwave. The roast potatoes were like bullets and the broccoli very undercooked. We were given our money back for the Wellington receiving good customer service; however, will not unfortunately return. Bar staff excellent, kitchen staff awful.

A friend and I meet up for lunch here every so often. Weather permitting, we eat outdoors; yesterday was very hot so, not surprisingly, we ate in the open. I've reviewed The Cricketers more than once and accorded it very favourable comments. This time, I'm only reviewing the dish that I had (and always have): Hunter's Chicken. This has always been good but yesterday's offering was exceptionally good and generous. The large piece of chicken was perfectly cooked and amply coated with melted cheese and a delicious sauce. There was plenty of bacon accompanying the chicken breast. together with tasty chips and nice peas. My companion had her usual fish and chips and told me how good they were. I've said in a previous review that the interior tables are well spaced out and that the pub has a pleasing atmosphere; I can add that yesterday the staff were as friendly, professional and helpful as always. There is still plenty of space to park one's car just outside the pub. The only hang up was that the coffee machine was not working and I missed my cappuchino!! Assuming that said machine will be back in action shortly I can, as before , heartily recommend this pub for lunch.

I had a meal there yesterday with my father as he previously tried the lamb and was thoroughly impressed. Sadly, the lamb had been swapped by the beef rib, which I had. This came well presented, and the food from our two meals was delicious! Simon made sure we were very well looked after - and as my first visit, I genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere. My elderly father prefers quiet places with good food, and this delivered what we needed. A second visit will be needed - for the lamb, or the beef rib in a bun - as Simon suggested! Thank you

I used to frequent mcaffertys regularly and have switched allegiances to the Cricketeers! The staff are soooo friendly and welcoming. I’m always greeted when I come in and Simon in particular is superb. The food is good and reasonably priced. Ample and cosy seating, and a great selection of real ales and other drinks. Situated right by the pond and dog friendly, too. Great place for a drink, nibble and to bring the family. Best pub in the area? Hard to disagree…

First time visiting this establishment. We had a big family party and had our own area downstairs which was perfect as there were quite a few of us. We ordered food which I must say considering it was busy, was brought out to us promptly and tasted amazing and there was plenty of it. Staff were friendly and always popping in to our area to clean glasses and plates. Will definitely be coming again. Thank you!

Arrived at a rather difficult time with a rugby game in progress so the pub was full. However we managed to find a big table on the upper floor. As a foreigner who hasnt visited many English pubs I mus say I liked the atmosphere. Food was OK but not special, best choice was the beef rib. Gammon steak was interesting but very salty and not tastier than Smoked ham (although looked a lot like it). Burger OK. I liked the sweet potato tiger fries. I believe the place would be even better in the summer when sitting outside by the lake,

Had a fantastic visit to my local pub, The Cricketers last night. The atmosphere was just what I needed – warm and inviting, with a gentle hum of conversation and laughter. The staff were top-notch; friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

Just had a fantastic experience at my local pub, Stepping through the doors, the warm glow and friendly buzz instantly put me at ease. The pub itself is a delight – cozy nooks with comfy armchairs beckoned for a longer stay, while the worn wooden bar held a certain charm. The staff were top-notch. Friendly and attentive, they made everyone feel welcome. Whether it was a quick hello or a chat about the day's news, they struck the perfect balance. Of course, no pub experience is complete without a good drink. The selection at was impressive, with a wide range of beers on tap and a decent selection of wines and spirits. I opted for a Markers mark, and it was perfectly poured and delicious. But what truly elevates The Cricks is the atmosphere. It's a place where regulars and newcomers mix seamlessly, fostering a genuine sense of community. Whether catching up with friends or simply enjoying a quiet pint after work, it caters to all. Overall, this is a fantastic local pub that deserves all the praise. I can't wait for my next visit!

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch here! We had the sharing lunch for two. Could not fault it at all. We come here when visiting daughter in Epsom Uni and have never been disappointed with the food, the service and the staff. Cannot recommend highly enough - such a pleasure to leave this review - well done The Maquis of Granby!
