Shame the staff are rude and obnoxious. This let's the whole pub down. Not a nice atmosphere for a meal. I would not recommend.

I have been to the Barley Mow on previous occasions and to be honest I fnd it a lively, friendly pub which is usually busy. But the food is not up to standard and this is the secod time I have find it lacking. I had some brie in breadcrumbs which were unfortunately solid, I think prefrozen, not cooked enough. I sent them back and they returned totally overdone making the breadcrumbs inedible (the brie was at least soft). Shame really, if they could get the menu right it would be great. They do have a live band on Fridays, loud but very good. I will probably go back, but I will avoid the food in future unless I hear good things from others.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Prices for food is very good. The pie was excellent sadly I was driving so only had a small beer which was well kept. everyone else in our group of 5 had nice drinks. Very dog friendly and biscuits on bar for Tilly dog . Worth a walk down the street to find and easy parking next door.

Waited well over an hour for the food when we complained a very aggressive person who said she was the only one working in the small kitchen, this person was totally inappropriately dressed to be working in a commercial kitchen and disagreed with the time we had placed our order and argued that we had been informed about a long wait which we hadn’t. The food finally arrived , roast potatoes raw in middle, cauliflower cheese in a watery sauce the chicken looked like it was deep fried and was inedible, beef looked like shoe leather didn’t even try to cut through it. We thought we were lucky to get a table without a prior booking now we know why. Another table of four left without getting their order fed up with waiting. The Barley Mow used to be such a busy friendly establishment such a shame.

I think I could have been there on a bad day, but the several things on the menu were not available which left me having a sausage sandwich. Unfortunately the sausage seemed to be poor quality and the onions had a strange after tase along with some pretty terrible brown bread. The chips were fine but overall the food was not great. The staff however were great with good service and very friendly.

Poor. If you want food, I'd avoid! On arrival, were taken to our table in the restaurant area... Sat there for around 20 minutes, waiting for someone to take our order. I eventually went to ask someone and was only then told we don't do table service. This, I don't have an issue with, but would have been nice to be told this as we were seated. So, ordered our food - it did not appear busy at all. An hour later, no food and very hungry kids. I asked how much longer, and was told we're the next table. An hour & 15 mins we waited for our food. Yes, it was Fathers Day but there was 1 table of 4 and another table for 2, both tables were already eating when we arrived... so I couldn't see the hold up. Fine.. perhaps they were busy else where. No big deal. The food eventually arrived, we ordered 3 roast dinners (chicken, turkey and beef) - Turkey: Cut like a piece of steak! - "1/2 Chicken" - Teeny tiny! Bearly half. - Beef: it was a very thick slab of beef, that was very, very over cooked, and incredibly dry. Almost grey where it had been cooked for so long or left under a heat lamp. I politely took it back. The guy I had spoken to, looked at me blankly and said.. "I don't know what you want me to say" before eventually turning to the chef who appeared from the kitchen, and said "she's complaining about the beef - she said it is too over cooked" the chef then said.. "what do you expect at 4.30" (Note, we had our table booked for 3pm) Clearly, the quality of food takes a dive at some point in the day. They said they'd bring me out another plate and do their best to get a less over cooked beef. 🥴 Out it came, along with a butter knife 🤦‍♀️ again, the beef was cut super thick.. at least 2 cm deep! I couldn't cut into it... it was so gristly. At this point, I gave up and lost my appetite, and left the entire meal on my plate uneaten. The waitress asked how my food was, to which I felt honesty is best here. I told the waitress it wasn't good. She told the chef, and I over heard him say.. *"Well it's a difference of opinion"* And that was that. I would have refused to pay for it if they hadn't insisted we pay at the start. Incredibly poor experience and would never recommend this place to ANYONE. Unless they replace the chef. Sorry, I hate to leave negative reviews but this place takes the biscuit! On the plus side... decent garden to have a couple of drinks in the sun. #SundayRoast #PoorService #PoorQuality

A disappointing Sunday lunch for our family. This meal took over 1 and a half hours to come out and there was no update given. Staff seemed inexperienced and rude . No allergy information displayed and when asked about it they responded saying as they were a small business they are not obliged to give it! Wrong! What about Natasha’s law!? Allergies were not taken seriously and we were just told they don’t have this information and it’s up to the customer to decide if they eat here. Felt quite an unwelcoming visit. Disappointing service and my child’s pasta was inedible-literally tasted like some one had squirted ketchup over it. I would not recommend coming here for food.

Sadly this pub has gone downhill big time and is now devoid of much to recommend it. New management need to up their game as the menu is so unimaginative despite the kitchen closing for weeks to be refurbished. Not sure what they changed other than perhaps a bigger freezer and new microwave as lots of the food came out of one and into the other

Love coming to this pub! - a little gem slightly hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Epsom High Street, a short walk away though. Lovely warm atmosphere, gorgeous garden (currently waiting for some warmer days to get a little more busy!), very friendly staff and the new management tending the guests in a very caring manner. The new food menu rolled out recently - rather simple but a good classic comfort pub food with some vegetarian options available, and on a more affordable side, with generous portion sizes. Definitely worth checking out!

This pub is lovely inside with log fire and plenty of cosy seating areas. However the staff let it down, last night I was served by a member of staff, a young man very tall but absolutely no manners. In between serving drinks he was chewing his fingers and using a tooth pick in the most grotesque way and then Touching the glasses and serving.. He constantly came in and out of the kitchen eating different plates of food- just didn’t look professional. I asked for two large wines with a spritz of lemonade and he put soda in. When I questioned it he said “ why are you watching me do it?” The other members of staff are incredibly young but service was quick and efficient to be fair to them.

Most of the beef was fat and gristle and where there was meat, it was impossible to cut it. I left it. It was an event organised by a friend so it was not appropriate to complain at the time but had it been just me, I would have complained and returned the food. It will not be a place I will revisit! They say on Instagram they are the most friendly pub around. I didn’t see that on our visit last night. The prices are not cheap and one small bottle of Prosecco is £9. We ordered out food at 7:10 last night and by 7:50 it still hadn’t arrived. I asked the blonde lady at the bar and she snapped at me saying the chef is busy. When the food came out the fish and chips my partner had was dry and chips were hardly cooked. I had the linguine and it was full of oil and made me feel pretty sick. It repeated on me when we arrived home. The opening hours of this pub are wrong as they actually close at 10pm. Shocking for a Friday night. They said it’s because of covid, just before 10 a man came round asking us all to drink up and leave. Pure rudeness. I wouldn’t ever visit this pub again. They don’t deserve the business. If you are suffering due to the cost of living crisis don’t come here. The prices are very high for drinks. The staff need training on customer service and need to learn some manners. They also looks miserable and like they didn’t want to be there. I think they need to replace staff and get the place buzzing and vibrant again. The food menu was terrible. Lacked choice, no vegan options and the fish and chips has caused my partner to suffer food poisoning today. Terrible place. Won’t go again. Update: food alert have made contact after over a month of trying to get issue sorted. They have said the food poisoning didn’t happen here and that’s lies. We have home cooked meals so they are blaming me. It’s absolutely awful the way my partner suffered. This issue hasn’t been taken seriously so I will be taking this issue further.

Being a small eater I chose sausage and mash for children. I got 3 dried cocktail sausages and a table spoon of bright yellow mashed potato with peas. No choice of beans or vegetable sticks. The rest of the party had a burger ( mediocre ) and fish and chips. The chips were reheated and limp.. considering it was Friday lunchtime there were only about 8 other people in there which should have made us think. Lovely pub, you can park at the Upper High Street car park and walk straight to the pub's garden, at the back!

First visit and what a treasure. A classic out of the way pub, lovely beer garden and lots of nooks for cosy private chats.

This used to be fantastic, but in the last two weeks standards have fallen. Chicken shish is tough and dry , less meat than before , pitta bread and wrap is hard and often quite inedible. Up until recently I couldn’t fault them so I’m guessing somethings gone wrong.

Pre-dinner drinks with the family. Such a nice cosy pub for a dark evening. Just done a refurbishment so will also be amazing in Spring/Summer with the new outside bar terrace
