Stopped here after a 2 hour drive. Admittedly ran in for a pee, then sat down to work out what we were going to do, and to make sure kids were ok at home. Before we could order a drink the barman came up and rather aggressively asked whether we were going to bother buying anything. We explained what we were doing, but he had the bit in his teeth and just started giving us grief, made our decision for us. We ended up going to the Talbot around the corner (which is a lovely friendly pub) for a pint and a bite to eat. A pretty empty bar on a Friday night says it all really.

This will be short and sweet, the landlady is terrible, rude, useless at her job and only likes you if you are a borderline alcoholic that will sit in the pub downing pint after pint looking angry wearing replica England shirts. It’s sad because this used to be a good pub but I won’t be going in there again and there are much better pubs in Ledbury, in fact every pub is better than this one. The local police are probably there most weeks for one reason or another so if that doesn’t tell a story I don’t know what will. Do yourself a favour and walk on by.

This was the first pub we visited in Ledbury, thankfully the rest of the pubs were excellent. The pool table was broken in that it was costing is 2 games to play a single game and the game would end when the white ball was ported. Previously gave this place top rating. New management different rating. After serbser us twice,my partner and teenage son, we we're told by I assume the manager, to leave the premises as no kids allowed after 18.30. It does say so on the license (appologap I didn't read it on my way in). I did ask wjw we were served? I've been upstairs and the barman is new was the response. So we quickly knecked two pints, none of which were being drunk by my teenage son, and left. Perhaps I should have asked to be refunded for the drinks which cost £7 for two pints knowing I could get at least 6 or 7 bottles from aldi round the corner and drank at home(they would have been colder as well). I wouldn't have minded had he have been polite and said finish drinks etc we were sat by the front door after all but he was abrupt, assumed we read the licencing law on his wall sonewsome yet his paid staff didn't know the rules and was an ignorant prat! Anyway, rant over and apart from the very cheerful new member of staff,I won't miss this place in the future unless a human being takes over again!!

Daughter's fish goujons were crispy, flaky - really fishy ... in a good way! Service was fast and friendly. New young chef came to talk to us - full of ideas for specials and events. I'm very happy to report that Tim, Wendy and Co at the Retreat did a fantastic job for my son Matt and his gorgeous bride Laura. The quote we were given was very acceptable so before the big day we were worried that there may not be enough food but we were so wrong. The buffet was scrumptious and the hog roast was more than enough to feed everyone. As we were catering for 60+ people including drinks we were pleasantly surprised at how efficient and honest the bar staff were. The DJ did a fantastic job with the music and from all the reports we've received everyone had a marvelous time. In summary Tim and Wendy made the whole booking experience very relaxed and the day proved to be even better than I had dreamed. I only wish we could do it all again.

We can't rate this amazing restaurant/pub in just words. After an incredible revamp under new owners, this really is the place to go in ledbury if you want great food, great drink and amazing service from the very friendly owners and staff. After thinking long and hard about a wedding venue recently we decided to have our reception at the retreat and we are so happy we did. We couldn't have been happier with our day, everyone there making such an effort to make our day so special and the feedback from our guests was (as we expected) incredible. The lovely family who run the retreat have worked so hard to change the reputation and have made it a very up market but reasonable priced establishment. We are proud to call this place our local when we have friends to stay. Thank you all for our wedding and keep up the good work. Fully and completely recommend for anyone wanting a drink and or food. They were so polite and lovely making the experience very chilled out.The managers daughter who was helping out by cleaning the tables to get some extra pocket money was extremely polite and nothing was to small for her to do. We visited The Retreat whilst on holiday on the area based on the mostly positive reviews that it received and we were very disappointed. The service was very slow despite there only being two other small groups in the pub. When the food came it was mixed all round. The prawns were very good but the pie was average and the chicken in the chicken burger was burnt. The chips are dry and tasteless too. Although the food is not particularly expensive for the quality received it was definitely overpriced. The establishment itself is clean and nicely decorated but we wouldn't return anytime soon.

I opted for the Retreat burger, which was made with Hereford beef, bacon & cheese & an amazing bun! It was served with creamy coleslaw, sweet potato fries(or yuo can choose triple fried chips), a little salad with balsamic dressing & a tomato chutney(or you could have BBQ sauce). It came served on a wooden board & it was lovely! Currently on a Wednesday, after 5pm, they are doing 241 on burgers which is a great bargain for the plate of food! A real find. If you are in the area it’s a definite must visit. Traditional pub with good selection of beers. It was hot beef baguettes with roast potato’s and gravy on the menu the day we visited with was simply the best I have ever had. Staff are super friendly as are the locals. We could have stayed all day…

This is a regular stop for us (opposite Boots when you have to wait for prescriptions). Lovely friendly staff and usually mid morning plenty of them. However we have noticed on a few occasions now that the tables are not cleared quickly enough. Today when we were in for coffee, tables when cleared were left sticky to touch and not cleaned.

Our family always meet here for a catch up. Breakfasts are lovely but bring back grilled tomato and flat mushrooms. Value for money. Excellent service.
