Very pleasant lunch. Overall very tasty. We were talking too much so apologies no photos. We had the lilunch offer. Fish stew was a 7 out of 10. . Just didn't have the wow factor. My cauliflower soup was excellent. Friends said their terrines were delicious . The Pig beer was really good ! The faggots were very tasty . . We couldn't finish them. . The Almond tart to finish was just lovely. . . All in all, we were blown away when we went to Pig in the Downs. . This one didn't quite hit that mark but still a pleasant afternoon with friends. Certainly not a cheap one . Drinks really rock the bill up here.. we will return to The Pig. It's always a warm and welcoming service. Sitting in front of the fire is the best way to waste a chilly autumn afternoon.

Came with my son for a charming night. Was greeted by a lovely gentleman who directed us to reception to get checked in by another smiley and upbeat gentleman. As a high standard housekeeper I found the room spotless from the moment I stepped in. The small luxury village vibe was gorgeous. Dinner was wonderful and the young lady serving us accommodated to my gluten allergy very well. Was a lovely experience overall. Thank you.

What an amazing place. I was a bit sceptical about coming after reading the previous reviews. We came for our 30 th wedding anniversary and had a complementary up grade. Gary was great as front of house giving us a bit of history as we walked the Hog House which is gorgeous. Drinks in the different lounges was very cozy and relaxing. The supper was tasty and faultless. Service was on point, so I’m not sure what other people expected in there previous comments. We will definitely be trying the other Pigs out around the country. Thank you also to the lovely bubbly lady who served us at breakfast 😊 and what a breakfast it was. Again amazing. To all the staff at the Pig. You really did make our anniversary a special occasion.

My husband and I had an excellent dinner at The Pig. The food was delicious, and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Our drinks took a while to arrive (which didn't bother us at all) and were subsequently removed from the bill which was a thoughtful gesture. Would highly recommend!

The Pig has been a special treat for me these past three years but hearing a few bad reviews I though Id check it out myself. Location is stunning and The Pig has always struck me as a high quality restaurant with an imaginative menu. Lots of locally sourced food. This would mean the menu changes regularly but to be honest it is starting to get a bit too set on the same old dishes with seasonable veg. The food is still quite good although the ray was overcooked - a fairly amateurish mistake and the soup was not very hot (but maybe some people prefer that), But the lasting memory I shall have was the really terrible service. Its slow and the staff just have no interest in keeping the customer happy. For the prices they charge it simply has to be better. Our 'nibbles' arrived at the same time as the first course. And the coffees arrived before the dessert. They seem to be relying on their reputation (which is starting to wane). Some serious thought needs to be given to the menus and, above all, they need a manager to train and inspire the serving staff.

We had heard so many positive things and looked forward to an enjoyable lunch to start a short midweek break in the New Forest. We were disappointed - it was okay but overpriced. The staff were pleasant but the service was slow. We were pleased we had booked a twelve o’clock table as we were aware of the service getting slower as time passed. The food was well presented but the servings small. It is in a good location but I will not be returning.

Well overpriced for the food. It’s a lovely location but the food isn’t that special especially for the price tag. Coffee was awful too. Our table was really late and despite asking 4 different people for an update no one came back to us. There are better cheaper places in the area.

Our first stay and definitely won’t be our last. From the minute we arrived the staff were attentive and welcoming, rooms are lovely and the hotel has a lovely country house vibe. Sadly we didn’t have time for the kitchen garden tour but did a quick walk around and will try to get on a tour in future. Location wise the hotel is quietly located but a 10 minute drive into Brockenhurst. It is possible to walk but the road has no pavement so caution is advised. There are a number of walks advertised in the hotel, one of which we did and again this was great but does require a short spell on the road to start/finish as there is no direct forest access from the grounds.

Lovely welcome and shown to our table, waiter/s could not have been more attentive. Love a bit of Bolly as an anniversary toast. Having been before and talked to the gardener ladyI was intrigued to taste her tomatoe dish. Well, it raised the bar for me coockming my own tomatoes, fantastic taste. I had the pork chop which was the most tender and succulent chops I had ever had, my wife was quiet and into her monkfish, veg was delightful and fresh. As for dessert, I had fig leag panacotta which had cherries, very delicate fig flavour and my wife had smash in your fach chocolate mouse with alcoholic prunes. All so totally heavenly. Absolutely no rush to get you to ;leave and we are planning a return. Thanks to the cheff and all the staff who helped make it a grand occassion.

Okay, expectations certainly not met. Wallet definitely emptied! Starters - very bland and expensive. Mains - good all round, but again expensive. Desserts - a disgrace. Pointless and tasteless. Service was direct without any personal touch. One point lost for starters, one for desserts and the final point lost for the "discretionary" 12.5% service charge (almost £40) - which was removed as nothing special! Total bill circa £350 for FOUR people - I feel there are certainly better places to eat.

We frequented The Pig when first it opened - and offered the fare which its name suggests. It still provides decent food but of the now mainstream word-heavy smart gastropub cliché. But nice enough. What has changed at The Pig is the atmosphere - that is almost condescending and suggestive that they are actually doing you a favour letting you eat there for the £100 per head it ends up costing. The service was also slow - both bar and at the table - even when not heaving. Nice location - a little tired and past its best. And they served warm champagne………

The Pig has such a nice ore about it in its style and pretty spacious. Room for me to navigate around. Food was awesome lovely variety of food and waiting staff knew the menu and explained it well. Could not have felt more welcomed. I had the lamb steak which was perfectly cooked and tasted lush. Could be deemed as a little expensive however the quality of the place and the food makes it worth it.

My wife saw the restaurant on TV and we booked for her birthday treat. We got there early and had a cocktail outside and a wander around the kitchen gardens and grounds which was nice. We were also treated to some small nibbles of salami and pickled vegetables which was excellent the service was spot on. When our time came we were shown into the restaurant where the service there was a little mixed. Having to ask to be served bread when those around who were seated after us was on their second or third serving, ask 2 or 3 times for some ice. Small thing I know but when you see staff walk past and specifically look and see your small plate hasnt been used not once but numerous times and no one asks, poor service they seemed a little more attentive to tables with room keys - (my perception I people watch). The food was lovely each course was not over priced, that said there was two pork dishes on the menu that are standard pub food pork belly and pork chop perhaps something a little different from "The Pig" could have been created. But thats only my view and doesn't detract from the food served. We had the Fishy bites as a bite on Smoked Ox tongue which just melted in the mouth and Beet Cured Trout for starters, both I would have happily eaten again. Mains was the pork belly and grilled Mackerel both very good I had the pork belly with a garden salad. All in all was a nice place and good meal minor points on service would i recommend of course.

Great welcome from gentleman at front of house. Beautiful dining space , unfortunately we chose a table in a corner, which may have led to feeling overlooked at times. We did get our drinks on the house as the till was misbehaving, and lovely gentleman at front of house attentive as ever. This was a special treat for a friend , luckily her food was good. The piggy’s were soo small and average, cold and overpriced. And my gnocchi was overwhelmingly bland and hard , but my husbands pork chop was amazing , and he loved his sorbet. The real star of the show was the kitchen garden, the wonderful lady gardener was so charming. She had all the warmth and welcome, that sadly our waitress did not. We came away really enjoying our time at the Pig, but for totally different reasons than I would have thought. We had heard such great things from friends, and visit the Pig in the Wall often. Perhaps it was simply just a bad day. Lovely gentleman who took our picture was also very welcoming , so big thank you to him.

Popped into The Pig at Brockenhurst on a Sunday, early evening - no greeting, a band playing outside , no tables available (fair enough, we hadn't booked) took a stroll around the walled garden which was lovely. Came back settled into the Drawing Room for a drink. Eventually went and found a member of staff to get a menu as none was forthcoming - said give us a couple of minutes to peruse. 15 minutes later we'd waited long enough being ignored. Left for somewhere that valued our business. Shocking lack of service.

My wife and I have just had a meal at the Pig restaurant near Brockenhurst. The building and surroundings are lovely but the dinner had so many things wrong. The tables are too tightly packed together. Whenever a waiter/waitress attended the next door table I was treated to a large posterior in my face. We had a number of questions about the menu but the waitress was far from sure about being able to answer. Instead of asking someone else, we had the impression that she was guessing and very quickly left our table. It was only when the waiter at the next table explained more fully to his customers that we realised that our waitress had missed out many descriptions of our choices on the menu. When our starter arrived the presentation and taste were plain. We could have bought the items from a supermarket and stuck them on a plate and it would have looked the same. When our main course arrived we had the same impression. The food was plain and likewise the presentation. We decided that we would not eat anything further there especially as my wife found a large (old) crack in her dinner plate after eating her main course. Lastly, this meal was not value for money. We felt that we were paying for the surroundings rather than the quality of the food. We have had some great meals on our holiday in Lymington but this was by far the worst.

We visited the Pig at Brockenhurst for lunch as a special treat for my wife’s birthday. Before lunch we did a kitchen garden tour in the extensive grounds. The young man who conducted the tour was excellent & gave us a real insight into how the garden team helped supply the restaurant with much if not most of its fruit & vegetables. His knowledge, enthusiasm & passion for his job was clear to see. We were impressed. After a lovely cider in the bar we went in for lunch & were given a nice window table. We shared a starter of Roasted Heritage Carrots. We couldn’t believe such a simple dish could taste so good. For mains my wife had an aubergine dish which she enjoyed & I had a Tomato Tart which was so colourful to look at I had to take a photo of it. For dessert we shared a Raspberry Batter Pudding which was very filling. The raspberries however tasted like they had just been plucked straight from the bush. Outstanding food washed down with a tasty Malbec. The hotel is set in beautiful park like surroundings. A very relaxing place to enjoy a memorable meal.

Booked ages ago, husband explained my food intolerances and when arriving at the restaurant they weren’t prepared at all. Menu not accommodating and choice of 1 starter (which was poor) and main which was ok if they hadn’t served it with buttered potato. Feeling quite ill and now what was meant to be a great evening with my husband ruined. Can’t recommend at all and won’t be back. Didn't stay at the hotel, but checked out the bar and the restaurant. Firstly, there are a load of rooms to lounge about in and have a drink before or after your meal (or just generally). Dinner itself was lovely. The beef tartare was genuinely one of the nicest I've ever had. The wine selection is extensive too, there's something there for everyone. My main - goats cheese ravioli - was a bit on the light side but I was actually happy about this as I wanted something less heavy. The staff were super friendly, and we had a lovely time. Visited for a weekday lunch for our anniversary. The conservatory was half full and wound up around 3/4 full later on, I have seen some reviews that mentioned service but at this level of capacity the service was perfect. Everyone we spoke to was kind, friendly and passionate about the food and wine. We took recommendations from the sommelier for wines and our server for some of our dishes and we were impressed with all of them. Everything we ate was delicious and we sampled A LOT of the menu (3 small dishes, 2 starters, a main and 2 sides) and were impressed with everything. Even ingredients I would usually avoid as I don’t love them were impressive. I didn’t think I fancied any of the desserts but given how impressed we were with the other dishes we took a punt on the tapioca pudding and piggy fours, despite not being fans of two of the ingredients, again, all were delicious. It isn’t a cheap lunch out but perfect for a special occasion. A lovely setting, attentive staff and delicious food.

Overpriced and underwhelming, brought my mum here for a belated mother's day lunch as was recommended to do so, I think this place still trades on recommendations, as quite honestly it's outrageous how they can charge what they do for the size of the portions, I ordered a goat cheese pasta and 4 pieces of thin ravioli in a cream sauce with some random beetroot purée around the edge was delivered, the other plates were equally underwhelming, and the wine list doesn't bear thinking about unless you've a pre approved mortgage, shame that mother's day was forgettable, I won't be returning,

Hotel Room Perfect, Location Wonderful, Cocktails 5*, Food didn’t match up. So, arrived on a B&B deal. Upgraded the room and it was spectacular. Immediately super happy and relaxed. We also booked lunch & dinner as it’s in the middle of the new forest on a rainy Jan day. We were only there for 24hrs so decided to settle in and enjoy. Lunch was nice. A good lunch but was on the 3 course deal, so I expected it to be restricted and it was but perfectly nice. We ordered a bottle of Chablis and just enjoyed the ambiance. There are bikes to enjoy so we have a quick explore for a few hours post lunch and then went for pre dinner cocktails. The cocktails were excellent. Perfect Bloody Mary and negroni. The staff changed after the first and so we thought the second might not be as good but they were also excellent. Very well trained bar staff. My disappointment came with dinner. It was the same menu as lunch and I had what I wanted at lunch. I was getting my second choice and it wasn’t enough choice to get excited. Biggest gripe was limited veg choice. Broccoli in butter was really the choice. I want choice ..,, left dinner underwhelmed and wishing we had ventured out for our second meal. Breakfast wonderful and staff too.

The venue and our room were very nice; great facilities, but not cheap so expected. We found the food disappointing however. We had booked 2 dinners and breakfasts and were underwhelmed with both the quality of the food and service. The breakfast bar was often empty of fruit and pastries which needed requesting to top-up on more than one occasion. The sardine starters for dinner were not particularly meaty and on a thick soughdough bread which you could not cut easily. Our mains were average in terms of both quantity and quality; meat tough. Service was mixed; some staff were helpful and cheery, others were surly to the point of rude. So disappointed were we with dinner that we chose to eat elsewhere on the second night. Much better. Probably not again as expensive and poor food.

However, our table (along with a few others) had been placed by the pillars and looked and felt like we were in a walk way, it was not easy for the staff to get past our table. It did not make for a comfortable/relaxing setting. We ordered tempura veg with lemon mayo for appetizer - they look a bit like shoe string fries, quite tasty but some were a bit hard. Starters were beetroot & mozzarella salad (a bit tasteless/bland and presentation not great) and Bresaola (which I was told was ok) . Our mains were the monkfish with chorizo - this was nice, however, my main was the squash tortellini and this was not good. I could tell it was overcooked just by looking at it as the tortellini had lost its shape and looked anaemic. i tried some but it was very soggy, watery and little flavour. The person who was with me also tried a bit but they agreed it was inedible. I spoke to the waiting staff who took the plate away but then they came back to advise they spoke to the chef who advised that's how they serve it and that there was nothing wrong with it? I was offered to choose something else from the menu but by that time the other person had almost finished their meal. I was also offered a free desert but I didn't want a pudding. Such a shame as we had been looking forward to visiting here for a long time. If i was looking for somewhere nice to eat in the New Forest area, I would go back to Limewood as The Pig did not compare in the slightest.

We had a lovely lunch today from their 25 mile menu. Absolutely delicious. Lots to choose from, we started with nibbly bits with our drinks, lovely selection of gins available. Starters and then main courses. Food very nicely paced, not rushed at all and service was lovely, attentive but not too much. Our pork and beef choices were delicious. Too full for dessert, but nothing really caught our eye anyway. So we left the table and had our coffees in their lovely bar lounge area. A real treat of lunch, not cheap but very nice for an occasion. We had great table by the window in the conservatory, lovely tranquil views. Grounds and surroundings are truly lovely.

Oh dear, went here for my friend’s birthday celebration lunch. Dreadfully slow initially and then they tried to fob us off with whole meal bread as sourdough with our starter. Staff kept banging into my chair every time they passed through the squashed together tables, very annoying. We complained and quite rightly they took something of the bill. Really was disappointed and felt they are relying on the lovely location to make up for the poor everything else. Won’t be going again.

I have not been for a while and was pleased to see it was as good as always. We were lucky to get a late lunch table at short notice. This restaurant is that good that it often books out weeks if not months in advance. The Cods roe and Brock eggs (quails eggs cooked in scotch egg style but runny in the middle) were excellent pre starters. The beef carpaccio and trout tartare starters we very enjoyable. The Angus slow cooked beef was superb. Polished off with an exceptional "full monty" cheeseboard. The ambience was relaxed and jovial. The service here is at a standard that others aspire to. Not cheap but I really don't mind paying for this excellent experience.

Great Food and very attentive service (possibly even too attentive). Expensive but worth it for a special treat and the ambience is lovely.

We had visited several years ago and thought it would be a nice place to go back to for my Wife’s 40th birthday. We were met on arrival and shown to the bar to wait, whilst we waited for a table to become free. We had booked but it was very busy and we didn’t mind the wait. We were eventually shown to our table, in a slightly cramped corner of the busy restaurant. Orders were taken from a great looking menu along with another round of drinks. Food was delicious, seasonal ingredients with a local touch. Drinks took an age to arrive… I think the problem was the number of staff that deal with each table. Although all staff were attentive and meant well, we dealt with 4 different waiting staff so orders or general queries were missed repeatedly. A simple order of one glass of Champagne took 30mins and several prompts. Overall, loud, slightly chaotic and generally underwhelming for what should have been a special occasion. If you’ve never been, give it a try, but after that maybe look elsewhere…

We stayed for a couple of nights and loved The Pig: it's friendly and relaxed, and the service good. The rooms are beautifully styled in Victorian chic - think F&B olive green, William Morris wallpaper, black iron radiators, and a high chain flush toilet in the white tiled bathroom. The bar has a relaxed pre-dinner vibe and focuses on cocktails - my favourite was the Garden Spiced Margarita which is fantastic. Dinner is in the buzzy conservatory and the menu is varied and interesting as you might expect - highlights included the cured coppa with sauerkraut and monkfish with chorizo dressing for example. I liked the curiosities section of the extensive wine list which has some real left-field finds. Breakfast is probably the best I've ever had in a hotel. Oh, and there are great walks nearby to work it all off.

We stayed in Pig Lodge 1 , was a bit disappointed at first as was told the log burner was not working and was surprised it had no bath just a shower , however the staff here are so helpful and was able to rectify the burner situation (which just seemed a communications thing) and even offered a room change if we wanted it . We really enjoyed having the mini kitchen though so decided to stay in lodge1. We enjoyed lunch on the first day and thought the food was better than the one near bath . Our winter escape included breakfast at the hotel which was really nice , I wasn’t keen on the peas on toast though so wouldn’t try that again . They left eggs, cereals , beans , bread and jam in the lodge so you would have enough to put together a breakfast if you wanted. The bed was super comfy and the room was very quite . What really made it 5 stars was when we came back to the room after a day out all the washing up was done and fresh bread left which was an unexpected treat ! Would recommend the room just be aware that the 3 lodges are adjoined and the gardens not separated , wasn’t an issue in the winter but might cause you some concerns in the summer . Think would pay the extra for Berts Box if went again so could enjoy both a bath as well as a kitchenette .

We stayed overnight, from moment we arrived to leaving was excellent. The room was beautiful, warm, comfortable and amazing beds. The food, just every mouthful a joy. The staff attentive, wonderful greeting from Gary as we arrived, nothing to much trouble. A big thank you to Tom, he really did make our stay feel very special. Will definitely return, and highly recommend.

Very disappointed, booked for my dad’s 80th after recommendations from 3 different friends. Menu was very limited if you don’t like seafood. Drinks didn’t come as ordered. Main courses were very small, as an example 2 of our party ordered Tortellini and received 6 pieces of small tortellini with little sauce. The rice in the Risotto was still raw and the Parmesan flavour was overpowering. One of our party had the mullet and it had no flavour, he did speak to the waiter and a supervisor came and asked if he wanted a replacement but we’d had enough of the place by then and don’t want to wait for a replacement.

Table booked for 2.15pm When we arrived we were asked to sit in the lounge for a short while while they prepared the table, which we did, we then waited, and waited, and waited. We managed to catch the eye of a waiter delivering drinks to other guests and preferred some pre-dinner drinks. Oh and we waited a bit more Got to our table about 3pm. Staff were friendly and helpful Food was good, although poor selection of desserts Service was ok, but slow. All in all quite disappointing considering how well people talk about it. Felt more like they were living off a reputation rather than considering the service they were actually providing. Such a shame as we’d truly been looking forward to it.

The Pig, New Forest has fast become a firm favourite for our couple trips away. If you appreciate beautiful surroundings, being in the heart of the new forest woodland makes for amazing walks. My partner and I particularly like the lodges, a little more secluded - Luxury bedrooms with incredible beds, lovely turn down service with a Pig special ‘hit the hay’ tea. While staying, treat yourself to a treatment in the potting shed, found through the kitchen garden, a tranquil space perfect for a bespoke massage (Heidi is amazing) The restaurant is quaint with a truly lovely atmosphere - The food, is always incredible, they have a 25 mile menu, with emphasis on their home garden and local produce, everything is always delicious. To top it all off, what makes the Pig somewhere we will return time and time again, is the team, everyone is consistently fantastic, friendly, approachable and genuinely lovely. We look forward to our warm welcome and our chit chat with them all whenever we stay - thanks for making us feel like we’re returning home every time we stay with you! We look forward to many more lovely stays in the near future. Roxy & James

Real pub. Hidden down by Ashlet creek, you wouldn't happen on it by accident. Good food, good beer, friendly and warm. Dog was welcomed too.

We live in Lyndhurst Village and this used to be our go-to, local Pub. Unfortunately, the staff just do not seem to care. Last night we ordered two bhaji burgers, a pint and a rum and Coke - £48 lighter even after our locals discount. The meal was plonked down miserably… we were offered condiments, I asked if they had vegan mayo and the reply was ‘probably not’ … so I asked for ketchup and a tiny pot was bought it over to share. The burger was so small and incredibly dry…. My husband got up to try and get more ketchup for us as there was no staff around to ask. We were both incredibly hungry and the small pot of chips were lovely, but it left us saying that we will absolutely never be back again. This is the third time we’ve had a really poor meal here. You always want to support your local pub and it really did used to be fantastic but no longer. It used to be full of locals and interestingly, we didn’t see any last night. everybody locally in the village probably realises there are other better options. Save your money and go somewhere else, we won’t ever be back again. The New Forest Inn, Emery Down is much nicer or The Stag. Incidentally, we went to get two Diet Coke’s (as the meal was so dry) and for two small mush cokes it was £6.90!!
