We have just had lunch and having previously stayed thought I should write a review. The food was fab as expected abut the real standout was the care they showed to my husband when he was taken ill over lunch. At least 5 staff kept checking up on us and they went beyond the norm. So grateful to them but also would thoroughly recommend the lunch and to stay there. Thank you

I had heard good things about The Pig brand and visited for a drink prior to booking for lunch. I understand that this is DuVin of years ago re-born. The menu was bordering on the bizarre so we had decided not to bother with lunch but the cost of drinks put the tin lid on it. When I see what they are charging for a bedroom the prices are bordering on those of The Bonham and similar in Edinburgh. Brockenhurst is no Edinburgh and The Pig is no Bonham. Still, people must pay so good luck to them. By the way The Pig beer and brewery is nothing at all to do with the hotel brand. A good way of getting 'own brand on the cheap. Won't be going back.

Terribly slow service at the restaurant and this was after our reserved table was already delayed by over 30 mins. Otherwise the venue and rooms were lovely - it’s just a shame about the service both times we had dinner during our stay, especially as it’s at the pricier end of the scale. We were disappointed

Honestly I feel like this pub / hotel chain is very average and poor value for money. I have a running joke that the more you pay, the smaller the plate and the worse the service is and the pig is one of the best examples of this. The food was okay, a bit bland and you don’t get much for two course. The wine was expensive but nice. I don’t really understand how it takes two hours for four people to have two courses but watching all the staff look after empty tables rather than actually serve regular tables you understand. Fortunately our table was next to the till so I only had to ask three times for the bill. It was also our first meal as husband and wife and there wasn’t even a congratulations so maybe it is just us or hospitality doesn’t exist as part of their training. But this was really disappointing as we paid a lot of money and expected good service but unfortunately we were treated worse than the crumbs on the empty tables around us. We don’t want to sound extreme but when lunch is almost £300 it isn’t on.

This was our second visit to The Pig, we came for our wedding anniversary meal and once again enjoyed the beautiful setting. The restaurant is the perfect blend of informal yet still very special. Staff made us feel very welcome and were attentive without being intrusive. Our food was delicious and you really do need to take a moment to appreciate how special it is to eat locally sourced, responsibly produced ingredients, that are in season... This is a really great feature of The Pig. We will be back.

Only had lunch, didn't stay at the hotel. First time visiting and wouldn't go back. Not a lot of atmosphere for such a lovely setting and an expensive place. Could do with some chilled live music or at least a playlist on. Service was friendly enough, but they forgot one of our side dishes yet still printed it on the bill. The menu wasn't very exciting and the prices are wild. I went with the bbq octopus and I should have just stuck to drinking wine because the food was so unpleasant. Such a small portion but didn't matter anyway as it was tough and chewy with not a lot of bbq flavour or seasoning. The rest of the dish with the butter beans and chorizo was so rich and sickly. I tried some of my friends sirloin steak and that was very chewy. That in itself as a meal was over £50! Just another style over substance place where the rich hang out.

The room and location were wonderful, as were the staff, generally. The experience was, unfortunately, let down by the restaurant. The provision for gluten free was woeful, with very few options. The food service was slow, and the restaurant was very noisy and crowded. Lastly, we had expected great things of the food. Some of this was good- the fish dishes- but other elements - chicken, sausage, and, surprisingly, the much-vaunted vegetables- were very indifferent and disappointing.

We met up with a friend to celebrate her birthday but she got held up for over 40 minutes in traffic. Staff were very accommodating and despite the fact that the restaurant was busy (on a Monday lunchtime) and we were late, they made sure we could enjoy our lunch in a relaxed way. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. We ate from the Kitchen Table menu and the food tasted fresh, with some very nice touches to make it interesting. The ham terrine and lamb shoulder were delicious and my husband enjoyed his fish soup. The desserts weren't too sweet and so the flavour of the ingredients shone through.

The PIG – Brockenhurst is a haven of relaxation and charm, perfectly nestled in the heart of the New Forest. The atmosphere is delightfully laid-back, making it the ideal spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of the surroundings. One of my favourite moments was sitting on the terrace loungers as the sun set, glass of wine in hand and great company by my side – pure bliss! The serene setting, paired with their impeccable hospitality, creates an experience that feels both luxurious and effortlessly welcoming. Great restaurant with food sourced from within 25 miles. Lots of wine available and also beer and cocktail menus. The staff are very attentive and service is excellent. It gets very busy and bookings are essential. The only drawback is the restaurant area gets very loud due to being in an old orangery, making it difficult to hear when it's busy with large groups. But there are quieter areas which could be requested.

A wonderful experience at the Pig in Brockenhurst, it’s a scenic location, this one has more of a Manor House vibe. If you’ve been to the other Pigs, you’ll know the food always very good, however I must point out the menu is more or less exactly the same in all the Pig locations, which is a shame because you think they would change it up based on location to attract customers to dine at each one. Therefore I think the reason why you would choose to have a meal at this location is for the change of scenery. If it’s cold out, try to get a seat in the greenhouse section of the indoor seating, you’ll get nice views of the gardens and trees. If you’re getting food, don’t forget to try out the home made scented oil and smokey salt on the sourdough bread. It’s a nice change, it certainly stands out to everyone we speak to. This comes with every table for free.

Really, really disappointing visit. I was so looking for to it as The Pig had been on my ‘would like to eat at’ list for years. Overall the food was ok- but nothing special. It was the service that ruined the meal. Our main waitress was rude- no welcome, no offer to help with menu, forgetful and at the end of the evening she threw the bill at us- without saying a word. We were in shock. I should say that the other staff were pleasant- before dinner we were served nice drinks in the bar by the team there and the waitress who brought our food to the table was delightful. The setting is beautiful but it’s not worth it when the food and especially the service didn’t match. I won’t be returning and I definitely won’t be recommending.

A disappointing shadow of its former self. We used to be regulars at The Pig and The Pig on the Beach but haven't been for a few years due to having children. We loved it and used to sing it's praises. However, we went today with our two young children and it seems to have gone significant downhill. The experience was quite disappointing to be honest. Firstly and most importantly, the service was really slow with very long waits. Examples: - We were offered butter for our children's bread and ended up asking again after 15 minutes. - Our childrens' mains were served around 10 minutes after ours, we can only assume they forgot to cook them. - We asked for an extra couple of minutes for our 2 year old to finish her main (given it was served later than ours and piping hot so we had to wait for it to cool) and the waitress didn't come back for 20+ minutes. - The waitress then finally cleared our plates and it was another 15 to 20 minutes before we were offered the pudding menu. And a further wait before we could order. This was frustrating enough but it got worse. About 10 to 15 minutes into the wait for our pudding to come, we were approached by a member of staff who looked like a manager and told they needed the table back for the next guests and we needed to leave. We said we were still waiting for our puddings and were told we still needed to leave our table, despite the length of time we had been there being entirely due to the poor service. We, 2 adults, a 2 year old and a 5 year old were then escorted from the restaurant and sat on a sofa in the lounge with a tiny side table (no where for us or our children to sit and eat properly) and eventually served our coffees and puddings. An absolute disgrace to be honest. A NOTE TO THE MANAGER AND THE INDIVIDUAL WHO FELT IT APPROPRIATE TO EVICT US FROM THE DINING ROOM - If you need the table back by a certain time then A) you should have informed us, and B) you should ensure your service was up to scratch and prompt. Secondly, the toilets were simply dirty and smelly. With children we had to visit them a lot over the 3 hours we were there and they remained dirty and smelly throughout. There was one gents cubicle that we just couldn't use because of the state of it. Thirdly, the menu was lacking a lot of choice with only one pork dish (at The Pig!?), no chap, no crackling. All the old favourites had gone and were replaced with a disappointing lacking selection. The food itself was okay but not what it once was. All in all it feels like prices have increased a lot and service and quality have decreased even more significantly. Cost cutting greedy owners I feel. We won't be in a rush to revisit and will have to find a new 'nice restaurant'. Very disappointing. I should also say, I did explain this to the person who took my payment (not in uniform so I assume a manager) and didn't even get an apology.

We have visited the pig now many times and have always booked when we are planning a holiday near to the new forest. Sadly this visit not as great as we have experienced previously, food ok but not ‘wow’ especially for the price. When presented with the bill noticed £1 was added and when queried this told it is a charity donation- we were not informed at any time of this charity ? So this is wrong to just add this to a bill - customer should have the right to know this . Not sure we will be returning.

The Pig has been a special treat for me these past three years but hearing a few bad reviews I though Id check it out myself. Location is stunning and The Pig has always struck me as a high quality restaurant with an imaginative menu. Lots of locally sourced food. This would mean the menu changes regularly but to be honest it is starting to get a bit too set on the same old dishes with seasonable veg. The food is still quite good although the ray was overcooked - a fairly amateurish mistake and the soup was not very hot (but maybe some people prefer that), But the lasting memory I shall have was the really terrible service. Its slow and the staff just have no interest in keeping the customer happy. For the prices they charge it simply has to be better. Our 'nibbles' arrived at the same time as the first course. And the coffees arrived before the dessert. They seem to be relying on their reputation (which is starting to wane). Some serious thought needs to be given to the menus and, above all, they need a manager to train and inspire the serving staff.

Sadly we didn’t have time for the kitchen garden tour but did a quick walk around and will try to get on a tour in future. Location wise the hotel is quietly located but a 10 minute drive into Brockenhurst. It is possible to walk but the road has no pavement so caution is advised. There are a number of walks advertised in the hotel, one of which we did and again this was great but does require a short spell on the road to start/finish as there is no direct forest access from the grounds.

Okay, expectations certainly not met. Wallet definitely emptied! Starters - very bland and expensive. Mains - good all round, but again expensive. Desserts - a disgrace. Pointless and tasteless. Service was direct without any personal touch. One point lost for starters, one for desserts and the final point lost for the "discretionary" 12.5% service charge (almost £40) - which was removed as nothing special! Total bill circa £350 for FOUR people - I feel there are certainly better places to eat.

We frequented The Pig when first it opened - and offered the fare which its name suggests. It still provides decent food but of the now mainstream word-heavy smart gastropub cliché. But nice enough. What has changed at The Pig is the atmosphere - that is almost condescending and suggestive that they are actually doing you a favour letting you eat there for the £100 per head it ends up costing. The service was also slow - both bar and at the table - even when not heaving. Nice location - a little tired and past its best. And they served warm champagne………

My wife saw the restaurant on TV and we booked for her birthday treat. We got there early and had a cocktail outside and a wander around the kitchen gardens and grounds which was nice. We were also treated to some small nibbles of salami and pickled vegetables which was excellent the service was spot on. When our time came we were shown into the restaurant where the service there was a little mixed. Having to ask to be served bread when those around who were seated after us was on their second or third serving, ask 2 or 3 times for some ice. Small thing I know but when you see staff walk past and specifically look and see your small plate hasnt been used not once but numerous times and no one asks, poor service they seemed a little more attentive to tables with room keys - (my perception I people watch). The food was lovely each course was not over priced, that said there was two pork dishes on the menu that are standard pub food pork belly and pork chop perhaps something a little different from "The Pig" could have been created. But thats only my view and doesn't detract from the food served. We had the Fishy bites as a bite on Smoked Ox tongue which just melted in the mouth and Beet Cured Trout for starters, both I would have happily eaten again. Mains was the pork belly and grilled Mackerel both very good I had the pork belly with a garden salad. All in all was a nice place and good meal minor points on service would i recommend of course.

Really beautiful place to eat. We had lunch, and it was one of the nicest meals I've had for a while. Great location and building. If this place was an animal, it would be a peacock. A peacock that shaking it's tail feathers. While wearing a sequin leotard.

Great welcome from gentleman at front of house. Beautiful dining space , unfortunately we chose a table in a corner, which may have led to feeling overlooked at times. We did get our drinks on the house as the till was misbehaving, and lovely gentleman at front of house attentive as ever. This was a special treat for a friend , luckily her food was good. The piggy’s were soo small and average, cold and overpriced. And my gnocchi was overwhelmingly bland and hard , but my husbands pork chop was amazing , and he loved his sorbet. The real star of the show was the kitchen garden, the wonderful lady gardener was so charming. She had all the warmth and welcome, that sadly our waitress did not. We came away really enjoying our time at the Pig, but for totally different reasons than I would have thought. We had heard such great things from friends, and visit the Pig in the Wall often. Perhaps it was simply just a bad day. Lovely gentleman who took our picture was also very welcoming , so big thank you to him.

Popped into The Pig at Brockenhurst on a Sunday, early evening - no greeting, a band playing outside , no tables available (fair enough, we hadn't booked) took a stroll around the walled garden which was lovely. Came back settled into the Drawing Room for a drink. Eventually went and found a member of staff to get a menu as none was forthcoming - said give us a couple of minutes to peruse. 15 minutes later we'd waited long enough being ignored. Left for somewhere that valued our business. Shocking lack of service.

My wife and I have just had a meal at the Pig restaurant near Brockenhurst. The building and surroundings are lovely but the dinner had so many things wrong. The tables are too tightly packed together. Whenever a waiter/waitress attended the next door table I was treated to a large posterior in my face. We had a number of questions about the menu but the waitress was far from sure about being able to answer. Instead of asking someone else, we had the impression that she was guessing and very quickly left our table. It was only when the waiter at the next table explained more fully to his customers that we realised that our waitress had missed out many descriptions of our choices on the menu. When our starter arrived the presentation and taste were plain. We could have bought the items from a supermarket and stuck them on a plate and it would have looked the same. When our main course arrived we had the same impression. The food was plain and likewise the presentation. We decided that we would not eat anything further there especially as my wife found a large (old) crack in her dinner plate after eating her main course. Lastly, this meal was not value for money. We felt that we were paying for the surroundings rather than the quality of the food. We have had some great meals on our holiday in Lymington but this was by far the worst.

We visited the Pig at Brockenhurst for lunch as a special treat for my wife’s birthday. Before lunch we did a kitchen garden tour in the extensive grounds. The young man who conducted the tour was excellent & gave us a real insight into how the garden team helped supply the restaurant with much if not most of its fruit & vegetables. His knowledge, enthusiasm & passion for his job was clear to see. We were impressed. After a lovely cider in the bar we went in for lunch & were given a nice window table. We shared a starter of Roasted Heritage Carrots. We couldn’t believe such a simple dish could taste so good. For mains my wife had an aubergine dish which she enjoyed & I had a Tomato Tart which was so colourful to look at I had to take a photo of it. For dessert we shared a Raspberry Batter Pudding which was very filling. The raspberries however tasted like they had just been plucked straight from the bush. Outstanding food washed down with a tasty Malbec. The hotel is set in beautiful park like surroundings. A very relaxing place to enjoy a memorable meal.

The food is all that it pretends to be and a bit more. All dishes tried were excellent! Pudding was remarkable too. A comprehensive wine list and very good service. If anything, it gets a bit hectic with lots of customers and small children do not help... otherwise, fantastic!

We had dinner at The Pig and loved it. The pork chop was delicious but the star of the show was the chocolate tart with coffee ice-cream. We visited with our 5 month old baby so needed a bit of extra time and the staff were very welcoming. There were lots of side rooms with comfy chairs so I was able to discreetly feed. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Had dinner here for my wife's birthday, and we were both very happy with everything. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Their 25-mile menu is unique and means that everything you eat and drink is locally sourced. The meal was of high quality, and we would definitely come again.

Excellent meal on a very busy Saturday afternoon. Exemplary service, ambience and, of course, food. Yes, it is expensive, but for an occasional treat, it is well worth it! Standout chocolate tart w coffee ice cream 👍

Visited the restaurant many times as the venue is obviously lovely, but I think this was the last time. The food has never been exceptional but this time we were asked to move to the lounge after we declined desserts. We were only at the table 70 minutes with more than half a bottle of wine to finish. Seriously sub par in terms of high end restaurants.

Hands down Best meal I’ve eaten in the UK! The vegetables were fresh and juicy, so was the meat (slow cooked pork belly) and the cheese cake with orange sauce and edible flowers was to die for!! Definitely coming back!

Great restaurant. Enjoyed the “25 mile” menu. The lamb was exceptional. My only advise is to order more as portion size is smaller so get some extra starters and sides. The tobacco onions and pork crackle was also excellent. Kids menu was ample too. Fairly priced.

Booked ages ago, husband explained my food intolerances and when arriving at the restaurant they weren’t prepared at all. Menu not accommodating and choice of 1 starter (which was poor) and main which was ok if they hadn’t served it with buttered potato. Feeling quite ill and now what was meant to be a great evening with my husband ruined. Can’t recommend at all and won’t be back. Their menu says let us know about allergies but they won’t do much with it at all when you tell them even days / weeks in advance. disappointed

Visited for dinner. Great service. The waiter recommended a really nice cocktail based on what I said I like. The food was delicious. Be aware, the portion sizes are small so it is advisable to order at least one side with a main even if you tend to have a smaller portion at meal times.

Just had the most amazing meal at The Pig in the New Forest. A first time visit for us and certainly won’t be the last. A warm welcome and friendly service. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. To top it off we were dropped off to our hotel by the lovely Guy, to avoid the long wait for a cab. A perfect end to our anniversary celebration. Thank you, Lucy and Jo x

What a gem. This place is a MUST do if you are in the area. I had the pork chop and my heavens was it out of this world. Never had a pork chop so tender and juicy. Had chips with it and onion rings. My daughter had Goat cheese Ravioli, my sister had the Beef Chuck and my brother in law had the Lamb. Everyone was very happy with their food. We had cheesecake for dessert and chocolate mousse. Service was great and we felt completely welcomed. Definitely a repeat when we come back to the area.

Didn't stay at the hotel, but checked out the bar and the restaurant. Firstly, there are a load of rooms to lounge about in and have a drink before or after your meal (or just generally). Dinner itself was lovely. The beef tartare was genuinely one of the nicest I've ever had. The wine selection is extensive too, there's something there for everyone. My main - goats cheese ravioli - was a bit on the light side but I was actually happy about this as I wanted something less heavy. The staff were super friendly, and we had a lovely time. Definitely looking at other Pigs now to see if we can visit another.

Ambiance and staff were fantastic, unfortunately the food was average, light bites starters were ok, the nettle and potato soup lacked any taste and the Hake had no flavour especially the sauce, new potatoes were so hot they had obviously been in the microwave, my wife hade the Risotto that looked like a green porridge, she did leave most of it and this was removed from the bill.

We visited the Filly Inn after seeing the kids menu and liking the fact it had some "healthier" options like toad in the hole with veggies, cottage pie with veggies rather than the usual chicken nuggets and chips. When we arrived and walked in we loved the decor and the fact you could see straight into the kitchen, so could watch your food being cooked. We took a seat at our table feeling that we were about to have a wonderful dinner out, but that soon changed. The service was terribly slow, considering there was only one other couple in there eating! I ordered the pate and my partner ordered the calamari. When it arrived the calamari was missing the miso mayo, so my partner asked politely if he could have the mayo and the waitress did not apologise and simply turned her back and wandered over to the kitchen, we could hear the kitchen staff sniggering and the squeezed some plain mayo into a dish and brought it over. We are not ones to complain, so we just ate what we were given. And this is the most frustrating part, the food was fantastic. As I made my way through the pate, I soon realised my three tiny crostini bits of bread was not enough for my kilner pot of pate, so I asked for some extra bits of crostini so I could finish my lovely pate as I can not just eat the pate alone. Again, the waitress did not apologise and just looked at me shocked and walked off. Again, I could hear sniggering from the kitchen and as my bits of crostini was brough out, I heard the chef say "she will probably want more pate now"! I was shocked by this, I didn't think asking for an adequate amount of bread with the amount pate that was served was a big ask and on the menu it reads it comes with ciabatta and this was definitely not ciabatta, it was three tiny pieces of crostini. When our table was cleared, our drinks were empty but we were not offered more drinks, therefore we asked. Our old bottles, glasses were not taken and when our second round of drinks arrived they still were not taken. Our mains came out, and again it was delicious - I had the mushroom pie, my partner had shepards pie and my son had toad in the hole. We always order dessert, but we just wanted to leave by this point as we felt unwelcome, so we asked for the bill. When the bill came, we were charged for the extra bits of crostini and also, 12.5% service charge. I would like to say that we always tip generously, but 12.5% service charge for inadequate service was quite hard to swallow. But as I said, we always leave a tip so we did not ask for this to be removed. Now, onto the charge for the extra crostini, now I do not mind being charged for extra but I feel that this was not an "extra" this was just compensating for the lack of bread that was misadvertised and put onto my original plate. Also, that fact that my partner never got his miso mayo. In hindsight, we should have complained at the time, but we are not ones to cause a fuss, especially with my son present and by now a family sitting behind us, so just paid the full amount including the service charged and left. We would have been regulars and would have recommended the Filly Inn to others, but we won't be returning and tell people to avoid. I would like to end this review with a plea to the management - you have the decor and the food right, it was lovely but you can't go on just that alone. Please just work on the service and just the finishing touches that make people want to return and recommend.

Lunch with an old friend yesterday was excellent. The menu was short but had good choices and the dishes we chose were very good if not excellent. The service was heplful, attentive and polite witouth being intrusive. The price for a our lunches was reasonable. Altogether a most successful and satisfying lunch.
