The Angel & Blue Pig in New Forest

Booked a room the old fashioned way by phone, spoke with Ella who was very helpful and friendly. We met her when we checked in, a definite credit to the business. We stayed for a Sunday. All the staff work long hours and are all very friendly.

Great food and good service. Bit disappointed red cabbage was missing.

Food was OK ..had better Staff preoccupied talking with people standing at the bar. Long time to collect used plates. Loud man sat at bar made the atmosphere uncomfortable

A Very Disappointing Stay Arrival: Our arrival at The Angel and the Blue Pig was far from welcoming. A stale and unpleasant atmosphere permeated the lobby, and the staff's bickering amongst themselves created an uncomfortable first impression. The Room: Following a frustrating check-in where my wife was nearly knocked over by a swinging door which is located right next to the check in desk, I lugged our luggage up a narrow, hazardous staircase to our room. Upon entering, we were horrified by the state of cleanliness. Stained carpets, hair clumps in corners, and a grimy bathroom resembling a pub loo painted a picture of utter neglect. The pervasive pub food odour and constant noise further eroded any hope of relaxation on our babymoon. Dirty bed sheets, with a heavily stained bottom sheet, solidified our decision to leave immediately. Disgraceful Conditions: Within 20 minutes, I returned to reception, demanding a cancellation. Shockingly, the receptionist admitted the hotel was under new management with an inadequate cleaning staff. It was utterly unacceptable that they knowingly accepted paid reservations for rooms in such a deplorable state. Thankfully, a Solution: Fortunately, our reservation was cancelled, and we secured a stay at the fantastic Stanwell House in Lymington which was luxurious and comfortable, a far cry from the Angel and Blue Pig. Post-Stay Issues: The nightmare wasn't over. Despite the receptionist issuing a refund, they routed it back to Booking.com without informing us. This resulted in a frustrating three-hour phone ordeal with both Booking.com and the hotel to rectify the issue. Even a simple confirmation email with the correct hotel address proved too much for them, forcing Booking.com to process the refund regardless of the improper format. Local Insight: Conversations with Lymington locals confirmed our suspicions. The Angel and the Blue Pig enjoys a well-deserved reputation for poor service and inadequate standards. The photos on the website and booking.com do not reflect the actual state of the property. We strongly advise potential guests to avoid this establishment and seek accommodation elsewhere.

Visited to use the 30% off mains voucher. Staff were friendly and attentive and it had a cosy atmosphere, however the food wasn’t great.

Visited twice during my recent short break. Had different options from the lunch/early evening menu. Service with a smile, friendly approachable staff and very good food. As a mature single lady eating alone, I felt quite comfortable and safe, very much appreciated. Recommended.

Called in here to see some friends, ordered my drink & asked for a dash of Angostura bitters which they had. Whilst the bar tender was dealing with my order, some manager type bloke popped up & said they couldn't give me Angostura bitters because they had no way to charge me for it !!! When I said that was preposterous, it wasn't a chargeble item & no one ever charges for it,, he said, well it's expensive & we can't charge you for it so you can't have it. In disbelief I said that I was utterly shocked & it was ridiculous & that I'd go down the road to Huddle which I did. Had a lovely drink in Huddle, no grief at all & suffice to say that I'll never set foot in the Angel again ! Totally unprofessional , awful experience.

Slightly stingy portion with one meal, but otherwise OK. The lowest tip of 15% on the credit card machine is a bit steep.

Truly enjoyed a Friday family dinner at the Angel and blue pig. The food was both well tasting, especially the Sea bass and the lamb shanks, as well as well priced. Easy booking online. Will return for sure.

Had a 30% off voucher through the door so decided to give this place a try. Arrived at 12.30 and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant area. The waitress was pleasant and took our food orders promptly. As we waited the place started to fill up. We were astonished to wait 45 minutes for our food to arrive. There was no mention to us of a wait for food and given how empty it was when we arrived we didn't have any reason to think it would take so long for a hunters chicken and a halloumi kebab! The food was well presented and tasty, although the halloumi rather over cooked. It would've be nice to have been updated that there was a delay but sadly it was lacking.

We booked an overnight stay while visiting the area. We were greeted by lovely friendly staff happy to check us in. Room was on the top floor number 8. We love how quirky the old building was with its low doors, sloping floors and narrow halls. Room was lovely and cosy. Had all we needed for a night stay. We ate a meal in the pub that evening which was lovely, food fresh and tasty again all staff very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was hearty and delicious. Rivka was a delightful lady, not only did she help us to find the hotel’s parking, she checked us in that evening and then greeted us and served our breakfast the next morning. Would we stay here again … yes definitely!!

Very expensive for a glass of wine

Staying for two nights just outside Lymington, we chose this place for a special birthday meal this evening. So glad we did. Such an inviting welcome from the lady just inside the door, who quickly showed us to a table, was very attentive, as were all the staff. We also found the restaurant area to have a really lovely ambience. The steak and ale pie, mash, veg and gravy was so tasty, as was my partner’s lamb shank, with mash and veg. Great dessert of cheesecake, and coffee too. Good value for money. Would highly recommend.

Went here for Sunday roast choice of turkey, pork, beef or three roasts, very nice and very filling non of us could face a dessert. Nice selection of beers, Dog friendly allowed in half of the resteraunt area. Staff are very good and friendly. We went on the night so parking in the street is easy and free after 6pm.

Had lunch here today. Absolutely would recommend. Sunday roast was excellent. You will not leave hungry

Stayed in a deluxe room, needs some TLC ,needs larger TV to fit size of room, maybe a 2 seater sofa at the end of the bed to make it even more comfortable and deluxe, as it's an extremely spacious room ,so utilise with additions as mentioned. Thank you to Courtney who is a fantastic member of staff, that was extremely helpful, polite and an asset to the Angel and Blue pig. Thank you to ALL STAFF (sorry didn't get names) but everyone there were amazing and made our stay perfect. We will be back.

The pub was very cosy and the service and food were excellent. However the accommodation was extremely poor. Narrow winding stairwells, with no indication of this given before arrival! Leaking roofs, sodden smelly carpets, broken windows, scruffy corridors. It was a very disappointing stay for our special anniversary. I would recommend the pub, but definitely not the accommodation!

Second time visiting and I just had to write a review! The food on both occasions was excellent - the first time there were five of us celebrating a birthday and last night just myself and a friend. Everyone loved everything they had at the birthday meal. All the food piping hot and everything freshly prepared - delicious. Secondly the staff are amazing here - super friendly and upbeat, courteous and attentive without being overbearing and also very knowledgeable about the wines and the food. Such a pleasure to be welcomed and served by wonderful happy staff. Special thanks to (I think it was Rivka - Rebecca, sorry didn’t quite catch the name properly) who served us our food and the guys behind the bar (didn’t get your names!) We will deffo be back - don’t change a thing!

First visit while travelling to the area ! Such a warm, welcoming and cozy atmosphere. Staff were lovely and bubbly. Food price matched expectations, was excellent value for money. Unfortunately didn’t catch our servers name but she was lovely. Looked quiet when we visited but was early afternoon. Looking forward to visiting again! No delays in service and cocktails to die for!

My partners burger was fantastic. My ribeye steak came with a piece of wire brush stuck into it and was overcooked. However once the issue was raised with the foh manager it was all sorted. Second steak was metal free and cooked perfectly.

Came in for a Sunday lunch on the last day of our holiday, fabulous trio of meats, with gorgeous nicely cooked vegetables, (not cooked to a mush!!) Fab Yorkshire puddings too! Staff were friendly and service was brilliant. Will definitely be returning when we are in the area again,

Lovely place. Me and a friend came to Lymington for a weekend of gentle pubbing and never felt the need to go anywhere else. The pub itself is clean and modern while preserving it's history. The service is excellent, attentive without being obtrusive, and included an offer to remove wasps when we were in the garden! The food is excellent. The Sunday roast was delicious and the desserts were wonderful. All in all I cannot recommend it enough.

Great food & really lovely staff. So friendly, polite and helpful. Rooms have an eclectic charm to them. An amazing and massive turnaround from our experience last year that almost put us off going back this year. But glad it didn't, as obviously under new management!!!

Excellent food and service from Eddie who happily assisted a member of our group with their dietary requirements. It really put us at ease and allowed us to have a relaxed evening.

6 neighbours out for dinner, all of us had been to the Angel and Blue Pig before as couples. Restaurant was busy, service was good but we weren't rushed. Four had steaks, one had chicken and I had the lamb shank from the specials board. All the food was excellent. Desserts were good, beers were excellent.

After 4 years the food is average, the service was so lack lustre we nearly walked away when we were being served the staff were friendly and polite.

Excellent vegatarian breakfast delicious plenty of it and good value. Would recommend. We have a dogbut dident take her today but we know from past experience they are welcome . Dog bowls and doggy treats as you enter. Will be going again with our four legged friend for definite. Best breakfast so far on our holiday . Keep up good work .

A friend and I decided to have dinner here as we had a voucher for ‘30% off Mains’. They were busy and we were told that they had run out of sea bass, sirloin steaks and several other items on the menu. We both ordered Ribeye Steaks. Our server returned to say they only had one steak left so my friend changed to a Sweet Potato Curry. Our server then returned to say they now had no steaks left, so I changed my order to a Cheese, Leek and Potato Pie, which was tasteless. Service was excellent - the lack of food was not their fault. The restaurant was very full because of their 30% off offer. Why did they send these vouchers to most households in Lymington during August, their busiest month of the year?!!

Was really impressed entering this place old and quaint. That quickly disappeared come food service - is this yours? What is it I enquire with a sharp about turn away she goes. Returns and slams plate down this is yours!!! As you can imagine that set the tone for the rest of the evening. Room - not bad, toilet seat broken, bags straight out the packet, dented Nespresso pods, filthy windows. Firm bed! Breakfast. As I was there on a business trip I had a meeting lined up for 0800, head down a 0720 for what I was hoping for was a nice eggs Benedict and good coffee! Alas, yes what do you want? Breakfast, we don’t open till 0800. Not even an offer of coffee. Key handed back! Over all very poor customer service, the meeting I went to a couple of locals said the place had went down hill drastically. Shame as a lovely location.

The food here is absolutely outstanding. Probably the best pub food I've ever had. The cheese and leek pie was delicious and the fish goujons were flawless, the batter was so crisp without being greasy and the fish was perfectly flakey. The chef clearly cares about what is being served! The service was superb, warm, patient and friendly. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the dishes before we ate, but you can see how much we enjoyed our meals from our spotless plates! Highly recommended.

We were warmly welcomed and served by a lovely Spanish Lady (Rachel?). She was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Our friends were significantly delayed due to unexpected traffic congestion but this was never a problem and our meals were served quickly once our friends arrived. The quality of the food was superb with a good selection on the menu. All in all a most enjoyable lunch. Thank you for making us so welcome!

This is our favorite pub, in our favorite English market town of Lymington, in the New Forest. There's a warm, welcoming atmosphere for dogs and their Humans', too. Friendly, professional, staff. If we lived here this would be our "cheers". Special kudos to Courtney 💜

The only thing I was unhappy about was that I thought I had some cash in my purse to leave a well deserved tip and I didn't have it. Sorry guys!

Very friendly and accommodating staff who looked after both the two of us and our two large dogs very well. We were given a nice table with plenty of space for the dogs to relax whilst we ate and the food was exactly as we had expected. It is a pub dining experience elevated by the excellent staff.

We were welcomed by friendly staff, at the counter the manager confirmed our table and the waitress told us her name and settled us in. I have a seafood allergy and that was noted down. I ordered the steak, and my partner ordered the steak and ale pie. The food arrived well within time, and was hot. The steak was done well and came with decent components, my parents pie was rich and provided with plenty or gravy. The only negative is we were seated next to a large table (8 people) who had a few too many glasses of wine and were very noisy. There didn't appear to be any seats further away that were available However as that is out of staff control as such we both agreed it was a lovely place and had great food. Thank you to the bar staff, manager and our waitress (she had her wrist in a support, that all I can remember, but she was lovely)

Portions were so small and both over cooked. We had deserts which were recommended. They were completely tastless and watery where they had been frozen. The room we were given was in an attic room. One small window which was half covered by the concrete parapet. The lampshade was about an inch thick if dust. As was the shelf Al the way along the back of the bed. The bathroom had splash marks of some description all over the wall. 4 coffee sachets with nothing wrote on them. So couldn't use as didn't know if there was decaff. The teabags were just loose on the tray. Which meant they would of been handled by the cleaners.....yuk No biscuits or bottked water. Which should have considering the price.

Excellent meal, sea bass was great, Debs looked after us really well and persuaded us to have a pudding which was absolutely splendid.

My wife and I wanted to try somewhere different for our anniversary meal, so we decided to try the Angel and Blue Pig. Although we live fairly local (6 miles away) we had not eaten here before, but after noticing local advertising we made our booking online. This was very straightforward to do and we were able to inform the staff of my wife's disabilities via the online booking form. We were then pleasantly surprised to receive a booking confirmation email offering a 30% discount!! We are so glad we accepted. We were met by a cheerful lady named Rivka and shown to our table in the dining area, which is very spacious and clean, but still retaining that old-fashioned 18th/19th century coach house atmosphere. We ordered from the main menu, which offers a good range of choice, and the food served was very well presented, decent size portions, and perfectly cooked. I chose the pan-fried chicken and my wife had the fillet of sea bass. Both were extremely delicious. Overall, our experience was very positive, and we shall definitely be visiting again.

Came here due to very good reviews and were not disappointed. Great range and plenty of options for gluten free for me so very happy.. I personally had the Hunters chicken which was amazing. Great choice of desserts unfortunately I was full so will have to revisit to try them. Lovely staff , very welcoming and it was tasteful and comfortable. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Very pleasant pub, duty manager Debs served us a very friendly, helpful lady. Food excellent, hot and freshly cooked. We had the pies, both beef and Cheese leek ones very pleased. Atmosphere very welcoming. Would def go there or recommend again.

The staff we encountered were really friendly, especially Debbie & David. The food was good, it's a Marstons, so don't expect haute cuisine. The pub was olde worlde, in need of some investment, but it was spotlessly clean. Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing bite, in a historic pub in Lymington. Downside, there's no parking available. I think it's just for their hotel guests.

Very short staffed for whatever reason. No table service in restaurant and we had to order drinks and food at the bar due to shortage of staff. If you book a table for lunch this is unacceptable. The staff present however, were apologetic and polite and obviously overworked with long wait time for service for drinks, ordering food, clearing tables, paying bills.

Really lovely staff, tasty food, chilled and fun. Debs, Jamie and the team looked after us brilliantly and we all felt super welcome.

Went to The Angel and the Blue Pig on the 23/5/2024. Visited with extended family who were visiting from NZ. To start with, I had rung to make a booking. The booking system is all automated with a selection of numbers to press to confirm time and amount of people, but has no ability for customers to leave their name. Once I had ‘booked’, we arrived for our selected time of 6:30pm, to find that because of the terrible phone booking system, our booking hadn’t even registered and the restaurant was completely booked. We were told we could sit in the rest of the pub and had to have bar service. When it came time to order our drinks, my cousin had to ask for a different drink because a certain type of drink was unavailable (which seemed to be the theme for my cousin for the night!). When it came to ordering our meals, my cousin had to ask for a waiters note pad to write our food down as the pub was ridiculously short staffed (3 waitresses to be exact) and they were struggling to maintain the amount of customers they had to serve. My cousin, again, had to be told that his meal option wasn’t available, so had to choose something else. The food was delicious and arrived promptly to our table. Ordering desserts, my cousin again was told that his pudding option wasn’t available. When his second choice of pudding came to the table (he had the crumble), he was given a pathetic amount of custard to go along with it. A poor experience for us all, but at least the food was good.
