Absolutely fantastic 8 course tasting menu! Everything was delicious and well executed. Nick was great, he looked after us all night. It was lovely to see the chefs coming out with the food to explain the dishes. Would highly recommend well done

An impromptu visit for lunch - and so glad we did. Under new ownership, it is evolving. We stayed January two years ago, and the heating had broken down. We were well looked after then, and everything has progressed since. Today, lunch. Excellent menu, with my wife going a la carte, and me, menu du jour. Excellent selection. Delicious is an understatement. Professional, but friendly. Not too expensive. An altogether good experience. We’ll be going there again.

Really enjoyed this restaurant on a couple of occasions for Sunday Roast. The dining area and hotel reception were pleasingly presented and the staff were all very friendly, attentive and well-informed. The meals were good value for the standard of the hotel with a good menu including the roast options. Good desserts too!

I have visited a few times now for Sunday lunch and the food is delicious, and has never disappointed. It isn't the cheapest, however you pay for quality food. The service is also really good, and the staff are attentive. I last visited for a friends birthday and had booked weeks in advance, but ended up in a room full of one massive party. The waitress could see we weren't too comfortable staying there so moved us into the restaurant, and we had a lovely meal.

We booked a table for 2 to celebrate our wedding anniversary having heard that the restaurant was very good. It started well. We were greeted and had drinks served in the garden in the evening sunshine. "I will be back in 5 minutes to take your order". 30 minutes later I went to find someone and eventually found a pleasant young lady to take our order. We sat in the restaurant. We ordered fizzy water for my wife and tap water for me. We got one small bottle of still water. That was put right. We thought my wife's starter - cheese souffle was a bit stodgy. I had Cesar salad with prawns and crayfish. I asked if I could have some bread. We heard the waiter expressing his displeasure as he left the dining room. I was served with two chunks of slightly burnt toast - no butter. For the main course my wife ordered Aged Fillet of Norfolk Beef Horseradish Dauphinoise Potatoes, Winter Greens, Saffron Parsnip Purée, Root Vegetable Ratatouille, Red Wine Jus but with chips instead of dauphinoise potatoes and she asked not to be served with the Parsnip puree and the Ratatouille. She got one small piece of fillet steak and a stainless steel bucket of chips on her plate. Both the plate and the bucket were very hot so she asked the waiter to move the bucket from the plate. He said that he did not know how do this (??) so I used my napkin to move it. We asked for a steak knife and this was provided although later the manager told us they did not provide steak knives(??). The fillet steak was a bit tough and sinewy. We were upset by now and complained to the waiter about my wife's food. After presumably talking with the kitchen staff he said that that was what we ordered. I said we were very clear when we placed our order as we discussed it with the young lady who took the order. No management involvement yet. The waiter returned to our table with some wilted greens but by now we were very upset and left our food. So as not to embarrass other diners, we asked to speak with the manager and went to sit outside. The Manager joined us, was apologetic and said she would not charge us for the meal and drinks. This in no way compensated for our ruined evening. This was probably the worst restaurant experience we have ever had.

Before dinner we sat at the bar and tried a glass of red Romanian wine. Very unusual wine as is their drinks list, particularly the whiskey list which contains some very, very good single malt whiskies such as 21 year old Glenfarclas. They have a whiskey library which contains some of the best named whiskies I have seen even in a Michelin starred restaurant. Not sure why they do not market their drinks list better In the restaurant the service was perfect the staff were friendly and so helpful. They were young and lacked experience when asked questions but they made up for this as they tried so hard to make your visit a pleasurable one. I was disappointed with the small wine glasses and felt the Chateau du Tertre deserved lsrger glasses. Despite the difference in the wide range of wine the glasses remained the same. Seemed odd to do this. The food in the restaurant was amazing and great value. We ordered too much as we expected much smaller portions. Would recommend the vegan shared platter which was huge and so tasty. A meal on its own. We had a table by the window overlooking the garden. Certainly the highlight of our stay at Caistor Hall was the restaurant with its subdued lighting, piped music in the background and relaxing ambience. Very relaxed evening.

Four of us dined last weekend. we all agreed it was one of the most satisfying meals for some time. Interesting flavour combinations, all served with friendly, smiling waiters. The Chef should be commended for his execution and presentation, clearly following in the Brasted's tradition of quality and value. It is so good to see Caistor Hall back on its feet again with significant improvements, both structural and decorative .I suspect there might well be more to come.

We were asked to review this restaurant (now called Caistor Hall by Brasteds. ) Here is our FULL story. We tried to book at Brasteds at Framingham Pilot for dinner for 6 for the first week of January. My call to Brasteds was diverted to Caistor Hall. A very pleasant gentleman answered the phone and said Brasteds at FP would be closed that week and asked me if I would like to book at Caistor Hall. He said it is very similar to Brasteds. I accepted and he took my booking. I had heard nothing in the meantime and the day before we were due to dine I phoned Caistor Hall to check our booking just to be told that the restaurant was closed and they had no record of my booking. The very polite young lady said she would check with the manager and call me back. She called me back and said they did have our booking but apologised that we were not told it was closed. She said they had decided they would honour our booking. We accepted but I must say we were dubious - though we were assured that residents would be either dining or in the bar, we felt we may be the only ones in the restaurant and therefore it would lack atmosphere. We took a taxi to Caistor Hall and on arrival we were greeted by a very nice young gentleman who apologised for the lack of heating. He said there had run out of oil and a problem had arisen too with the heating system. It was EXTREMELY cold everywhere and despite him saying he had put fan heaters in the restaurant, it was soo cold we had to sit with our coats on. The young man who was to be our waiter was very apologetic and somewhat embarrassed and provided more heaters. We did eventually warm up. However, despite the assurances of there being other people in the restaurant and bars, there was no one to be seen anywhere. Just our VERY friendly waiter who was trying his hardest to make things well. We ordered our food and it was all very good and well presented. We had no faults with the actually meal and we could only praise our waiter in every way. He tried so very hard to make things right. Having dined at Brasteds at FP, this was no absolutely no comparison. At Brasteds we had several little complimentary small dishes served between courses and a pianist playing. Brasteds had been perfect. This was a huge disappointment and the only saving grace was our lovely waiter - he is to be commended. What we had expected to be a special meal was a big let down. I doubt we will return for some time to come. A BIG THANK YOU to our waiter for all he did to try to improve things against the odds. This was not a cheap meal but we certainly paid for it!!!!!!

Having experienced this venue under it’s previous ownerships over the last 12 years it is with pure joy that at last it seems to be on the right road that such a wonderful building deserves. Eight women went for lunch to experience the new ownership. All hoping for the best and it was a very good experience. The building has received the care and attention to detail it deserves. Dan took care of the group before the meal as we sat for drinks in the beautiful Garden Room. He was friendly, efficient and well trained. He and Michelle served us at table and they both added to the enjoyment the group had over lunch. Michelle came into her own when taking dessert orders and the restaurant produced real custard when requested although it was not on the menu. Always a good sign. Everyone enjoyed their choices of food. Being served with a cup of hot coffee rather than the usual tepid cup rounded off the meal nicely. No rush for us to leave and we finally left, all singing the new owner’s praises, after 3 hours. We will all be back, both together and with friends and family.

Date: 27/2/2016Function - Rowing Club Dinner, cost £35.00 per head.I am a vegetarian and I can honestly say I have never been offered a worse meal. I say offered rather than eaten as it was inedible. We were due to eat at 8.00 but were not called through till 8.30. The first course was soup - not sure what it was meant to be but all it tasted of was pepper and potato. Very small portion and when we asked for more bread we were told that there wasn't any. My main course consisted of two (RAW!) squares of something that was meant to be pastry I think, with a spoonful of spinach and mushrooms slopped in the middle, undrained making a horrible sort of paste. The table was presented with a small dinner plate of vegetables, meant to be enough for 10 people! There wasn't enough of each on the plate for everyone to have a little bit of everything, and we were told that there wasn't any more. I couldn't eat mine. The dessert was a cheesecake that as a vegetarian I couldn't eat. A sorbet was brought to the table for the gentleman who was gluten intolerant but nothing was forthcoming for me. When my neighbour pointed out that I hadn't been given a dessert, the girl went away and brought me --a slice of cheesecake!! This was at 10.30pm, the time that the dessert was served! At this point I gave up and my husband and I left. The organiser was so embarrassed by everything that she refunded my money. No apology from the hotel was offered at any point. PLease don't ever try to eat at tis hotel.

We had booked a table of 8 for Sunday lunch having seen a sample menu on their website offering two courses for £12.95 and 3 for £16.95. This seemed really reasonable and the menu looked tasty. When we arrived at 12 we sat down with drinks. The menus arrived, after a considerable wait (they were being printed apparently), and were a little different to the sample menu; the offer was not on them. We asked the waitress about this and she said that they hadn’t offered the deal for some weeks yet the internet had not been updated even though lots of customers had picked up on it. The manager kindly upheld the deal once asked. We ordered 2 starters, 6 adult meals and 2 child sized roasts. There was a bit of a mix up and the 2 children’s meals arrived before the starters – this would have been an issue had we not already waited 1 and a half hours!!! The two boys were hungry and we didn’t want to slow proceedings down further by sending them back. Our starters, which were lovely, were eventually cleared and we had to wait even longer for our main courses to arrive. The main courses were delicious. Between us we had ordered every option and there wasn’t a fault at all with the food (apart from our side order of vegetables never arrived). Once our plates were cleared we had to wait, again, for the desert menu. We had tried to stay positive by saying what quality family time we were having and how relaxed things were however now we were simply annoyed. The tables around us were all moaning too as there seemed to be so little reason for this excessive waiting. When the menus finally arrived we were told that they had had to re-print the desert menus; they were not the same as we had seen when we arrived. One table joked that we had been there so long that this was the evening menu! The deserts came, order again muddled, and were scrummy. Bored of waiting for cutlery, having asked for spoons, we tucked in to our custard with forks. We got the giggles when the large table beside us complained that their coffee was no stronger than bathwater.During our 3 and a half hour stay we were only offered drinks when we first sat down. We had a jug of iced water during our meal, which we again had to ask for. When it came to paying we realised we were charged full price for the children’s meals. We spoke to the manager about the long waits we had and he said that there had only been one chef on and that they were exceptionally busy. There was no apology or offer of recompense. Whilst we didn’t tip these guys, I’ll tip you – don’t bother eating here unless you have nothing better to do with your Sunday.

My wife and I and a friend visited Caistor Hall Restaurant for Sunday Lunch on the 6th September. We booked a table for 12.30 and there were not many other guests in the restaurant when we arrived. The staff were very welcoming and our order was taken by a member of staff who was in charge. We all ordered starters which were good and well presented. We also all ordered Roast Beef for our main course and were assured that it would be served rare. When the main course was served it lacked a selection of good well cooked vegetables. The roast beef was overdone and quite tough. I mentioned this to the waiter in charge but no effort was made the remedy the situation. The deserts we ordered were acceptable but when it arrived the sorbet on my plate was almost completely melted and the waiter commented on this but did not do anything about this. When the bill was presented the details were incorrect and the waiter took it away to rectify the errors. When he returned the bill still reflected items we had not ordered and we went to the bar counter to resolve the situation. It transpired that the the amounts charged were in fact correct but the description of the dishes were not!It seems a real pity that this restaurant which is situated in a nice old house in beautiful grounds seems unable to come up with something as simple as a well cooked Sunday lunch.

It's a summery Saturday afternoon so we decided to find somewhere for an afternoon tea treat. The reviews on Trip Advisor were a little hit and miss but sometimes you have to look at the overall review as well as the individual reviews, which seemed to create a positive image if Caistor Hall.Admittedly we didn't ring to book in advance but upon arrival the indication that seating a 'walk in' wouldn't be too much of a problem. Unfortunately the hotel were also preparing for a wedding, with guests arriving at the hotel to leave collectively in busses for the venue which always adds to the challenge in terms of timings and priorities for a venue. In reality, the staff were very friendly and attentive during our visit, but the overall impression was one of being a little disorganised and perhaps understaffed. I understand that the wedding guests made things challenging but perhaps the hotel need to address whether they are actually able to realistically cater for other visitors at the same time as a wedding. Our experience yesterday would suggest that the answer is probably a no, at the moment at least.Unfortunately we were also left feeling a little underwhelmed with our afternoon tea. Don't get me wrong, nothing was inedible and there was definitely a selection of both sandwiches and cakes but it really did lack that 'wow' factor I think we come to expect with an afternoon tea today....or perhaps that is just me? Maybe we need to try again on a slightly quieter day, but we certainly weren't overly impressed with our first visit. Maybe we were just unlucky and you will have a better experience than we did.

We went for Sunday lunch last week 12.7.15., as a treat for my mother and her partner. It was a little quiet - when we arrived at 1 pm there was only one other couple in the small, elegant dining room. What a mystery. It's a lovely setting, the surrounding are very pleasant - it's always good to be eating in a room full of soft furnishings and unobtrusive music. The staff were friendly, extremely polite and helpful. The Sunday menu is not wide ranging and offers options of varying prices depending on whether you have 1,2 or 3 courses. We chose 2 courses at £12.95 per head which proved to be very good value. I had a delicious sea bass, with fresh summer vegetables and others chose the roast beef and roast chicken options. The portions were just right and came perfectly cooked and hot. Pudding too were very good - I had a homemade chocolate brownie and opted for champagne flavoured ice cream instead of chocolate. Others had lemon tart with raspberry sorbet. Maybe everyone else was watching Wimbledon when we went and that was why it was so quiet. Definitely worth a try if you want reliably tasty well cooked and locally sourced food.

The food was very good, exceeded expectations. There were only two couples on the evening, we didn't eat in the restaurant at the same time, this meant there was no atmosphere while dining. This place needs, and deserves, more customers to ensure the chef remains at this well located country hotel.

We went for a birthday treat. We decided that we would go for afternoon tea (well coffee for me). We had a warm welcome when we arrived and had a lovely chat with everyone in reception - well they did know it was a birthday treat. We were shown into the wood paneled library where there was an open fire, large wing backed chairs and a view over the lawn. At the far end of the lawn you could just see the tails of the rabbits bobbing about. A fabulous tea arrived with sandwiches, cakes and macaroons. .Will we do this again - yes perhaps this time in summer when we can sit outside on the terrace, in the sunshine with a glass of chilled sparkling white wine - sounds like a plan.

We had an exceptional Sunday Lunch at Caister Hall. The staff are very pleasant and the restaurant itself is very comfortable with a pleasant view. The quality and value for money of the meal was great. Our only criticism was a lack of vegetables with the roasts. I don't personally like parsnips and apart from a small piece of carrot - that was it. Some green vegetables would be appropriate for a roast we think. They obviously have a great team in the kitchen. We'll come again.

Me and my wife visited here with friends for a Sunday lunch. It's situated not too far from Norwich and there is a nice walk nearby round an old roman camp. The restaurant in an old Hall with a series of interconnecting rooms, classically furnished and nicely laid out. Sunday lunch is reasonably priced £10 one course, £13 for two and £17 for three. The service was excellent and very professional, though maybe a bit too formal. The food I had sea bass and two of our group had beef and one nut roast. It all tasted excellent, though especially with mine there was not much; a reasonable size piece of fish but hardly any veg with it and in some places I have been starters are bigger. Only a few little cut up potatoes and small carrots. The meat options were a little bigger though not much cauliflower and broccoli came out with the veg bowl. Overall price was reasonable and it would have been excellent had they been more generous with portions.

Seven of us were at this lunch. The eighth was ill, but the restaurant plated up his meal and sweet and we were able to take it home for him. That's going beyond the call of duty for the hotel. There was a wedding on at the same time, so service was slow, but we were happy with that as it was a social occasion for us. The staff were extremely pleasant and went out of their way to suit us, and all seven meals were excellent. No one had any complaints at all. This was my first visit to Caistor Hall, but definitely will not be my last.

8 of us all enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at Caistor Hall HotelThere is a very spacious car parkThe elegant dining room overlooks the gardens We were greeted pleasantly and all the service was excellent. The Sunday lunch (not carvery) was really nice although the amount of veg for 8 diners was small. However more were requested and they arrived quickly and piping hot. All in all a very pleasant experience and one we hope to repeat during the summer as the venue is very close to a favourite walk.

Caistor Hall is an attractive Georgian hotel in a pretty hamlet on the edge of Norwich. The staff are polite and suitably attentive and the food is beautifully cooked. Had a good roast dinner in the elegant surroundings of the restaurant for only £8.95. Making me gluten-free gravy was no problem and I was brought G-F bread too. In the winter you sit on the chesterfields in the oak panelled lounge before a lovely log fire to have a drink and order, before being shown through to the beautiful dining room. In the Summer you can enjoy the well maintained and secluded gardens. Food was well cooked: we were offered a choice of roast pork or chicken, but there is an extensive menu including some delicious sounding puddings. I have been on other occasions for a special meal and really enjoyed the quality and value of the meal. Service is polite, friendly and suitably attentive.Just be warned - there was nobody else there when we went. Why not? So, - it's useless if you want a bustling atmosphere, but for a romantic meal or a birthday celebration with family it's perfect. This would also be perfect for a wedding reception!

Booked dinner here for me and my mum (plus had a Gourmet Society Card to get 241 on mains), not really knowing much about the quality of the food or service since the Hotel changed management. I have to admit I was really pleased with the food, all three courses were delicious, fresh and portion size was perfect....the chocolate brownie for pudding was amazing! The service was very good indeed, we were well looked after and the manager was friendly and welcoming. The only negative I have is the cleanliness of the mens toilets - it was freezing cold, the ceiling was dirty, toilet blocked and on the window ledge there were lots of dead flies....not a great impression. However, if you ignore the fact their cleaners are not doing a very good job, you will certainly enjoy the food!

A party of 30 of us were booked in a private room - for Sunday lunch on Mothering Sunday. We were walking afterwards. Our organiser had arranged for a fixed menu of roast beef ( or a nut roast for the vegetarians) followed by cheesecake or icecream. The food was perfectly adequate, served promptly and was good value for the very reasonable cost. THe room was chilly however (although, in all fairness, it was freezingly cold outside and blowing a blizzard!) We enjoyed our time together but it did not tempt me to return.

I have just been to the restaurant with three family members to enjoy a birthday lunch for one of the guests and we all very much enjoyed the whole occassion. The menu was comprehensive for a Sunday lunch. Our choices were beautifully presented and very well cooked. The service was very efficient although there was only the manager in attendance, probably due to the fact that unfortunately for the hotel there were not many guests. They deserve to be busier although possibly this is a sign of the economic times. The only reason for not scoring excellent is because despite having a comprehensive wine list the stocks of all but one red had run out. However we had an inexpensive bottle of Merlot which was very palatable and went well with our meal. I would certainly have no hesitation in visiting the restaurant again and would recommend trying it. It is also good value.

Went here for dinner with my husband. Very impressed with the menu on offer and the cost of the meal in general. Staff go the extra mile. The night we visited the hotel was busy with a party and it was left to amanager to man the resturant. He was fantastic and even helped with a special wine to go with my husbands chocolate desert. Dinner for 2 with 3 course and a helping of cheese wines by the glass and coffees just over £90, thats a bargain.Thank you for a special evening.

I have been so impressed with the food and service at this hotel restaurant over the last 18 months I wanted to share it with you. When you see the frontage Caistor Hall you may well decide to drive on.. don't. We visited the restaurant last night with a group of friends. Yes the hotel is a little quirky but the restaurant is fine dining at prices everyone can afford. The standard of service is impeccable and the food is exceptional in imagination, presentation, and flavours. Last night we ate delicious food - crab, Fresh Asparagus, Belly pork with a scotch egg filled with black pudding, Salmon en croute, one of our friends wanted Mussels however, the head waiter told us he was not happy to serve them as they did not smell right. The desserts are really scrummy.Have a look at the menu online. The wine list is of a very high standard at very reasonable prices. If you register as a friend of Caistor Hall you receive offers which are too good to miss. Atmosphere is a little quiet but I'm sure its beacuse you don't know about it. Well done to you all at Caistor you are certainly floating our boats.

Service was polite , professional and friendly, food was excellent. Could not fault the whole experience. We will be more than happy to return again and pay the full price this time. Well Done !

Myself and my fiance had booked caistor hall for our wedding and all was great, so we put a deposite down for the date, we booked almost everything from the registrar to the flowers, invites and DJ. when our number of guest increased we decided to have the wedding breakfast in the marquee, when we looked around the marquee (on the norfolk wedding show may i add) it was full of mould, dirt, dust, spiders, light bulbs were not working and the smell was awful. we obviously were very upset by this and when we ask the manager if it would be clean for our wedding the response we got was disgusting! she said "we are very proud of our venue and can not help it if dirt is around and spiders happen to live anywhere, so you can either have the venue or we will give you your deposit back"!! so we took the deposite back! i was heartbroken and disgusted with their attitude. all of this happened 6months before our wedding, and everything had to be changed!! i would not recomened this as 1. a restruant 2. as a hotel and finaly 3. i would never recomened this to anyone as a wedding venue

When we walked in we thought that we were in the wrong place as there is a long entrance hall before you reach the bar/reception. Once there we were greeted and asked if we would like a drink. So far so good, however we had purchased some Groupon vouchers and as soon as we mentioned this the warmth seemed to evaporate. We ordered a glass of wine each and had to remind them to bring it as our starters were on the table and there was no sign of them. When we decided we wanted another bottle of wine it took a long time to find anyone to bring the wine list and even longer to find someone to order it from. The menus are confusing in that they list a some main courses, then a table d' hote menu and then starters and mains on an a la carte menu. Oddly, when we were offered desserts we were told we could only select from the (cheaper) table d' hote menu not the a la carte even though desserts were not included in our voucher and had to be paid for as extras. The restaurant itself tries to be Georgian in style to go with the period of the building but lacks any real character and has some odd touches like the the expressionist artwork, which is definitely the wrong period. The food itself was well presented and mainly tasty, but not very hot and the service was slow to non existent, (we waited about 25-30 minutes between courses). Good value with the Groupons but would not rush back.

Visited The Crown last night for a Birthday Dinner celebration. This Country Pub, Restaurant is going from strength to strength since it was taken over by by Lucy and Darryl. From the minute you approach the Thatched building with its beamed interior, you feel as though you have walked into a country cottage living room. Comfortable chairs, relaxed ambience, well stocked bar and a changing menu including fish, steaks, veg, vegan, and a little from afar. It’s always nice to have something with a different twist! Plenty of spacious tables in both front bars and a long atmospheric restaurant behind the bar. If you haven’t visited yet, put it on your eating out list, I don't think you will be dissapointed with the welcome, the friendly staff or the good food.

What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

I had the Haddock and chips, well the menu says chips but I got fries. FRIES AND CHIPS ARE NOT THE SAME THING. The Haddock was really nice and a good size the non chips (fries) was tiny barely a mouthful. You get more fries in a Macdonalds happy meal. Every meal with fries was the same. You need to realise you're just a pub and are not a Michelin restaurant and normal people want proper adult sized portions especially considering the price. I would not choose to go there again (not my choice this time. I had to go to a takeaway after I left as I was still hungry. Poor very poor.
