This place used to have good home cooked food and reasonably priced, good beers. It's changed hands at least once perhaps more times since I last went in but post lockdown, someone is obviously trying to recoup the money lost whilst closed. I ordered two pints of beer - not the mega expensive poseur's lager - and asked the girl behind the bar if she'd made a mistake and taken for three pints, it was that expensive. Didn't have any more, chose against eating there and have not been back since. Ridiculous prices. Shame because it's a really nice setting.

We have been going to the Reindeer for the past year for takeaways etc, i have to say the owners are amazing, they have fun with the bar staff on quiz nights and treat them as equals, the attention to detail where customer service is concerned is second to none. We always feel welcome by the owners and by the staff, fabulous food and the car meets are amazing, we managed to make just one but we’ll be there next time. 100% recommended for drinks, food, pizza and Sunday lunch. All home cooked to a very high standard.

An excellent public house by the pond, and with a stunning church to photo across the road. Excellent outdoor seating. Friendly welcoming staff, and a good selection of beverages. Well worth a visit if passing.

This was a place we used infrequently and reluctantly over the past eighteen months. I won't say more about the old management but concentrate on the new. A much better atmosphere, more friendly and a landlord who has the personality to succeed. He is experienced in the pub/catering trade and knows that the only way to success is hard work! Good luck. Not a beer man myself but love the pizzas. Now a pleasure to visit.

Attentive staff, spotlessly clean, lovely home cooked fresh food at reasonable prices and a superb pint. Hats off to the landlord, landlady and staff. I hear the present owners are leaving for pastures new, which I'm personally sad to hear. To the new owners....... you've inherited a cracking pub. But also got a tough act to follow. Note to ernoldbird66.....Your first visit to the pub was that bad an experience that you had to visit again, and all the way from Wetherby.....wow!!! What a sad individual!

Great Pizza, well kept beer, wine has certainly improved over the last few years. Great landlord and landlady, have done the village proud over summer with events and expansing food menu. We are sorry to see them leave but hope the newcomers keep up the good work.

Read glowing reviews but spoke to friends who had been and not given reviews but were disappointed. Tried it myself just to see, ordered several pizzas (four of us). Waited a long time which would not have mattered if worth the wait. It wasn't! bland food, all tasted the same, edible but with your eyes shut couldn't tell the difference between the pizzas. Not cheap either so first and last time for us. Other comments, had to clean the cutlery, not a deal breaker, indifferent staff, a truly unmemorable meal.

This is a local family pub, with friendly staff and a great welcoming atmosphere. It holds classic car night's every other Thursday and they are always a great hit. The pub offers some of the best pizza I have had for a very reasonable price. It's a great pub, give it a try and see for yourself.

I don't usually leave a second review of places I've visited but after recommending it to friends & getting their feedback of the great pizza's they enjoyed I thought it's worth another review of the Reindeer Inn. I dropped in with a friend & found the same friendliness from the staff, great selection of drinks and a 2 pizza & sides meal deal, just as fresh & tasty as before, another very enjoyable evening out, thank you!

Popped into The Reindeer for pizza, I would highly recommend the food which is freshly prepared with plenty of variety and the meal deals are good value for money. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, great table service, a very pleasant visit.

Tried the pizza night again in July. Supposed to be home cooked by the landlord and highly rated by him. Problem is there are so many places doing pizzas these days and several in this area so to pull in the punters yours have to be as good as or better than the rest. This time these were hot and looked OK but were bland, tasteless and not cheap so not impressed. after the food was served we were not approached again by staff to ask if everything was OK, they probably realised it wasn't. Still, I suppose if you live locally and are not too fussy then this place fits the bill. It would help if the tables were properly cleaned too. Ours was sticky and had glass rings, just gave a bad impression.

Nice location, with nice seating area outside. Play park and large field to play football right next to the pub makes it good to bring the kids. The bar staff that work there on a friday night are excellent, they make you feel welcome and are polite ( seems most of our village drink there since our pub shut down, which to be honest was proberly down to poor bar staff) . The place always seems very very clean and the food we have had as always been excellent. Like somebody said in a previous post the place seems clicky, but most village pubs are like that. Nice place to just sit outside and chill.

Weird place, something of a dinosaur, owned by the landed gentry. If you're an outsider don't try to engage the landlord or staff in general conversation or you'll be viewed with suspicion. Very limited opening hours and service, could not survive without subsidy. Looked to me as if they are just playing at running a pub but visitors must make up their own mind. Details now, went for a pizza on the one night a week they're available. I spent five years as a pizza cook for a national chain so know a bit about cooking and service. Four of in the party, food was variable to say the least. Pizza bases were partly overdone and partly underdone, as was the toppings, God knows what sort of oven they were using and the pizza base mix probably needed better quality ingredients. They were edible but not worth the money and ten minutes away you can get a first class product for the same money. Drinks were OK and prices average but hygiene could be a problem with customers apparently being allowed to let their pets drink from the pub glasses, see Facebook. Not sure alcohol is good for dogs either! There seemed to be a definite division of customers, the "in crowd" obviously mates of the landlord. The "out crowd" there to make up numbers. I visit a lot of pubs and bars, key features to me are always, atmosphere, service and quality of food. Sorry but the Reindeer just left me numb with an unpleasant taste in my mouth. We left after eating and went to a nearby pub, next village, what a difference! separate review.

Living fairly locally, myself and friends use this pub pretty regularly. I’ve tried other pubs close by but non - but none serve beers anywhere near the standard of this place.

We visit this pub regularly for just a drink as well as for the pizza night and car evenings. We have never found the pub to be anything but friendly, welcoming and homely. The Friday pizza evening is one to visit as the pizzas are homemade and are beautiful, a good size with a good variety of toppings.

Frequented this village pub on & off for many many years as I grew up in the village. Seen many changes throughout this time & all of them for the better, ending up in the present day & new hosts for the last year (give or take as I don't keep a diary) Any way I've been several times throughout this last year due to the classic car nights that run through the summer (& now I believe midday on Sundays but not done one though) There's a warm welcome and friendly smile when you enter & a good selection of usual beers/lagers etc & a couple of hand pulled ales. great! The main reason for leaving this review though comes from last Friday evening visit which resulted in a couple of beers & a pizza deal, really very nice home cooked Pizza's with fresh ingredients made by the landlord to order. Had to wait a little but then noticed how many boxes came out of the kitchen and found out that they take orders from people coming in & also do deliveries so the wait was not long at all, dominoes could learn something here!

Went twice as couldn't believe it the first time, equally bad experience both times. Earlier in the year paid a visit for "morning coffee". The Reindeer was supposed to open at 11am, I was visiting friends in the area and we just had time for a coffee before we went out for the day. There bang on eleven, as were others, no one arrived till gone ten past, no apology, "could we wait for ten minutes while she opened up and got the coffee on". The general attitude seemed to be "she", whoever "she" was, was doing us a favour. Not impressed so went to a Garden Centre on the way to Gainsborough, a much more professional outfit, subject of another review.

Been and had a few Sunday lunches and a meal in the week. The food is of a very high standard. The service is also great. Dined here in mid July and enjoyed a lovely home cooked meal by the pond. Staff were welcoming and very friendly. I ordered homemade pie of day with 'proper' chips. The pastry was to die for and as for the chips, well, they were the best I've ever had!! Definitely will be going again and recommend to everyone!

Had Sunday lunch here back in July, due to word of mouth of new management. And it's safe to say we weren't disappointed! I had roast beef and my partner had roast pork, which were both cooked to perfection, there was also plenty of vegetables unlike a lot of places around here! The new manager is a credit to the business and obviously so is the chef! Cannot wait to go back and try the regular menu! Excellent service and very reasonably priced! Will be back soon

My Wife and I are regular customers of this fantastic establishment, it’s that good, we travel 17miles round trip just to eat there, it’s always, clean, comfortable, the staff are friendly, efficient and nothing is too much trouble, a special mention for Ruby, no matter how busy she is or how unwell she feels she always greets you with a smile and asks how you are, professional and a credit to her employer, thank you all for always being the best in Retford 😉

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.
