My fiancé and I had our engagement party here and it’s one of the best nights we’ve ever had! The venue is stunning, and the food, the music and all of the staff were amazing and super friendly especially the owner Marc who made sure everything went perfectly smooth and made it completely stress free for us which allowed us to have a great night with our friends and family full of fun and dancing. Wow what can we say about our roast dinners, I had the beef and my fiancé had The Ultimate Trio, we were amazed at the portion size and the amazing quality of the meat, the vegetables, the red cabbage was delicious, omg the onion gravy was delicious 😋 We both said that it is the best and tastiest roast we have ever had in a pub/ restaurant. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 to the chef, you’ve got it spot on. My second visit to this lovely quirky pub and not disappointed. We both had the starter of ribs as a main dish (actually we bought 3!) we had a side of chips and garlic bread. The ribs as a starter is a very good portion size. The staff were welcoming and friendly. You have the added bonus of the quirky garden. I will definitely be making another visit again.

Nice looking pub with garden and parking had already looked at the Sunday lunch menu as vegetarian options needed. Food was good but not special. Our problem would be it was so slow dinner took aver an hour to arrive even tho they were not busy! had to ask for cutlery napkins even plates for the cheese and biscuits, one coffee came it was incorrect had to ask for the other one! Service very slow could not make an espresso martini over all poor experience.

Enjoyed a lovely overnight stay and dinner after flying back into Gatwick airport. Fabulous staff so helpful, efficient and friendly. Dinner superb in a fabulous setting. Highly recommended.

No welcome or service offered. Tables all had ashtrays filled with butts from previous evening. Unpleasant smell from loos when sitting outside Menu v limited although chips excellent.

My friends and I booked to stay here for a night on Friday. We had dinner and drinks and everything was fantastic. I have been to this pub many times over the years with my family and friends and always enjoy the food (the pie is always a hit) and the welcoming and cozy atmosphere. All the staff work ward to make sure everyone is looked after, it is so nice to have a pub like this locally to us. I would definitely recommend a visit and book a room so you can have that extra glass of wine. Special thanks to Marc and Katie for making our evening so enjoyable.

A lovely cosy, real old school pub. We are locals but hadn’t been for a while. What a lovely experience after our dog walk on a Sunday afternoon. So friendly, all the young staff were amazing. Me and my now husband recently had our wedding reception here. I want everyone to know how beautiful it is and how amazing the staff are. The gentleman who owns the pub was a real gem. Was very chilled allowed us to decorate freely. The pub its self had everything we wanted and all our guests thought it was perfect. Thank you so much. It really truly was perfect.

Booked ahead for my wife's birthday. Just the three of us for dinner. Very nice and unusual pub in a lovely space adjacent to a cute cricket pitch. Outside decor and arrangement is striking with wood carved animals all around. In April not many outside understandably but I would imagine in summer this place being very busy. Food was superb, we went for a sharing starter which really got the tastebuds engaged. My son had the steak which was very thick and sizeable. My wife and I had the pie with was huge!! Irish coffee afterwards which we took back outside as it wasn't cold and we like the fresh air. Service was good and the girls worked hard. One very minor quibble, if you have the steak make sure to ask for a steak knife, my son didn't have one and insisted we didn't ask as he could cope without one. But I could see the cutting wasn't easy. I feel sure if he'd allowed me to ask he would have gotten one no problem. Overall, a lovely dining experience, food was exemplary (shout out to the highly skilled chefs), drinks and service were top notch. Highly recommended.

Marc and the team could not have been more accommodating in planning my 50th birthday dinner. We had a party of 24 and took all the rooms. Its quirky atmosphere made for a great evening but honestly, the team could not have tried harder to ensure I had a relaxed but fun event. Everyone in my group has raved about what a great event it was! It was exactly what I wanted !

Looking for a venue that could cater small as well as large events I came across The Red Lion & cellar Rooms online. My first visit had convinced me this was the venue for me and my event. 11 great rooms, the bar area, the cellar area and the gardens which have a permanent marquee for events and a second marquee as a walkthrough all full of tables and chairs and heated. I met the owner Marc over a year ago and from the first meet my mind was put at rest. I was arranging a surprise party for my wife so everything was to remain hush hush. Once I told Marc of this he not only sorted all the accommodation for me but the food the venue the DJ the PA system and so on. Nothing was a problem at any stage. We arrived Friday for lunch and left on Sunday morning and from start to finish both Marc and his team excelled. The bar staff were fantastic, always smiling and cheerful and the food was exquisite. We had the most fantastic time and left with memories we will cherish forever. Thank you all so very much for making our weekend of memories. I would highly recommend this venue and team for any event you may be arranging.

Great new discovery in Betchworth. Visited for dinner on a Friday night. Fab menu choice and the food was beautiful. Fresh, hot, ample and tasty. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were so lovely. Big shout out to all the staff serving us that night. Will return and looks a great pub to visit during the summer. Highly recommend if your around the area.

Had a fantastic Christmas Work Party with Marc and his team at the The Red Lion. Throughout all the planning for the party, Marc was very helpful and his team was always willing to assist when we popped in. On the evening, the food was amazing and the whole evening had a really good vibe. If you are looking for somewhere to hold a party or even just for a meal or drink, I would recommend the Red Lion with Marc and his team. The venue is like walking into a fairytale.

Horrible prawns to start with. Straight out the frozen packet.. main meal way to salty. Horrible cheap sausage cold meat and stewed veg.. overly hot in the basement that smells damp.. owner allows dogs in that had a fight and the couple next to us put their phone on so loud for their kid it was competing with the overly loud music.. staff were lovely but clueless.. probably because they are all so young.. boss clearly didn't care..

Had a lovely evening with friends and family. The place had a couple of functions going on and because of this the service was slow. If you have big functions you should allow for extra staff. Limited car parking doesn’t help either. I had a house burger. It was small and dry. The other people in the group all said food was amazing except for the veggies who didn’t rate it. Overall think they were just cooking too many meals at the same time. Will go again as a couple and try when not so busy as feel it will be better. Must add staff were all excellent.

Marc and staff provided and excellent 3 course meal for 29 people in memory of a beloved Auntie. From initial contact arranging to view the facilities to adapting the menu and changing the start time at short notice. We had an intimate setting in The Cellar Room at Marc's suggestion and for those who stayed overnight had a fantastic breakfast. They couldn't have done anymore for us. Excellent service from start to finish. Highly recommend this location.

My brother and i had a most enjoyable lunch and highly recommend the swordfish steak, which was delicious. It is one of the more expensive items on the menu, but in my opinion well worth it.

My husband and I went for lunch on my birthday as we haven't visited the Red Lion for years and its in such a lovely location. We had a really enjoyable experience. The waitress (Karis) was so helpful and friendly to everybody and created a lovely atmosphere. Food tasted freshly cooked and everything we ordered was delicious. We'll definitely be back soon.

Went for dinner; appetisers and mains were smothered in oil and too much seasoning overwhelming the food dishes not really matching descriptions on menu. Couldn't finish our meals - quality of mains not good. On the bright side, staff very friendly but would not return as too disappointed with quality of food. In addition, table surface dirty and a smell of damp while eating left poor overall impression. V disappointed compared with 4/5 star reviews read in advance before our booking.

we arrived at this hotel late on a Sunday evening, we were travel weary and down to our last frayed nerve...when we arrived Mark provided the good old fashioned hospitality we needed, he showed us round and then set about ensuring we were fed and watered.(even though the resturant was closed).. the setting of the hotel is stunning and the quirky outlay of the property is interesting, we stayed on for lunch the next day and the food was great , we will return to see Mark in the near future, 10/10

My wife and I had our wedding reception at The Red Lion. They did a fantastic job. Marc and the team guided us through our experience and delivered on our expectations. They catered to our needs and assisted with everything. The food and drink were brilliant. We rented all the rooms for our guests and were very happy with the standards of all rooms and they were clean and tidy. The pub is in a beautiful setting and the garden/decking made for a relaxed and enjoyable party. Would definitely recommend the Red Lion as a venue hire. The whole team were amazing.
