Fml - such a great location but lifeless - honestly upset had hopes was going to be ok and welcoming . . .

Called here today visiting relatives, a bit of an unknown quantity for them as well as us, and they live here, clean welcoming pub, attentive staff, very helpful, meals ordered were the gammon egg and chips, ham eggs and chips and Guiness and beef pie with mushroom. All three meals were excellent, to be fair it's hard to cock up Gammon, the Ham was well cooked moist and tasty, the eggs were perfect, just that slight browning underneath that adds flavour. The Guiness pie was packed with flavour and not too much pastry, which was delicious, all served with a pointless salad dressing, but this is the norm. Chips were good, and not piled high.Good value as well at £88 for five meals and six drinks.. Pub was nice and warm on a cold day, two tv's showing football, but volume off so it didn't interfere.. Lets be fair this is a great little local pub turning out great food, or two local visitors were so impressed they promptly booked sunday lunch for the following day! Close to the M3 an ideal place to stop away from bloody awful services

We had a fabulous Sunday Lunch. Excellent value and a good choice. The roast pork was plentiful and extremely tasty, great gravy and an extra gravy boat to add if needed. I would recommend the cheese and biscuits with grapes and celery but if you have a sweet tooth the sticky toffee pudding it apple crumble. This is by far my favourite place to eat not only because of the food but the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend you book a table.

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. A reall family pub. I went for lunch with a group of cyclists and we were all able to sit in the conservatory. The sandwiches were enormous and excellent and the service was wonderful

We visited the pub, 4 adults and 5 children and were shown to a table on the balcony overlooking the garden which was very nice. The children played in the garden, there are several things to amuse the kids, whilst we waited for our meals to arrive. All our meals were good and the service outstanding, the lady who served us was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

Today’s meal was, as always, excellent food, with friendly attentive staff, and good Covid precautions. Roast had 5 vegetables and all trimmings, and all at a reasonable price. Good choice of food and table service, inside or outside.

We called in for a drink as we had already eaten, we signed in for track and trace and sanitised our hands. Drinks were brought to the table by helpful and friendly staff, we would have stayed a little longer but the pub closed at 9pm due to the Covid 19 stuation

We used the Red Lion for the first time yesterday as a half-way meeting place between Southampton and London. There were 4 of us and hadn't booked a table, but the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We had Steak Pie, Home-cooked Ham, Egg & Chips and a childrens Chicken Nuggets meal, plus desserts. Extremely quick service with well-cooked food. Will definitely be meeting there again.

A lovely pub with a wonderful atmosphere. The food is homemade and FRESHLY cooked by the landlady. Would 100% recommend a visit to the red lion...and the bar staff are pretty good too.

I live in Lightwater and have only been to this pub three times in 8 years(says it all). Always feel unwelcome. Typical- all the regulars turn and stare when you come in, sit round the bar so you bar to ‘intrude’ to order a drink. They have a cupboard of games for children and a huge climbing frame outside. However, I have found the landlord very rude about children in the pub even when they are playing quite nicely near our table. It’s fine for regulars children to run around and create havoc but not for our children to be with us. Went in one night close to last orders and the landlord was so rude to those trying to order that we left abruptly. Bearing in mind we all live locally, have been in before and could become his frequent custom. Could be a lovely pub but is old fashioned, managed by rude staff and if you are not a regular propping up the bar you feel awkward and uncomfortable. Recommend you head to Bagshot, Windlesham or Chobham if you are this way.

We popped in here for a spot of lunch with friends. We had a really friendly welcome, were seated and served quickly, had a nice pint of London Pride. We all had different things of a nice pub menu, Cod & Chips, Sausage & Mash, Ham, Egg & Chips and a Steak & ale pie. Cooked quickly, served piping hot, good pub food, nice staff. Enjoyed it and will use it again when we meet these friends again.

The most miserable and rude female owner I’ve ever come across, the bar staff look bored out of their brains and too scared to have any kind of personality, the food is poor dated pub food, the whole place needs a serious make over. My advice - Don’t bother going into this absolute dive. Go down the road to one of the many lovely Windlesham or Chobham pubs!!

I read the reviews of this place and checked the website. Seemed just the right place since they claimed the customer is at the core of service at this Pub. We noticed a sign saying that food is served till 16.00 which was just right as we arrived at 15.30. We were curtly told that the kitchen stops serving at 15.00. The only snack available were crisps! The only option for non-alcoholic beer was Becks! All in all a far cry from the customer centric claims of the business. Rugby seemed to be more important at the time.

We randomly chose this pub as it was half way for all of us to meet travelling in different directions!It is a warm and friendly pub with a real 'locals' feel. Welcoming and pleasant staff.Two friend's with me ordered scampi and chips, another the homemade pie special. All were happy with their choices and enjoyed them. One of us had chilli con carne with rice. This had to be sent back to make it hotter. When eaton it had very little flavour and certainly no bite. The garlic bread was over toasted. However, I wouldn't want you to use this experience to put you off trying this establishment. Real effort appears to go into how they run the business and the layout provides you with comfy corners and pleasant outside areas.

This pub had a really friendly and vibrant atmosphere the staff were really helpful the food was absolutely delicious, I would highly recommend visiting this pub if you're in the area.

My local pub, which is a great old school "proper" pub, rather than the overly fancy gastro pubs which seem to be taking over in this area. Always has a good selection of beer, very friendly staff and regulars, and great food, which is very reasonably priced. A good place to watch sports, and also has a nice beer garden for the summer months.

Call in here sometimes ror a drink and to watch the sport on TV. Good range of beers and the food is a reasonable standard too

Fantastic food from a large choice of starters, mains and desserts. Could pick two or three courses for a fixed price, including coffee and mince pies. Extremely friendly service. Many Thanks to Kerry, Jason and their staff.

A few minutes off the M3, and a great convenient stop for leisurely Thursday snack lunch. Friendly welcome and service, nice conservatory at the back, a proper pub not some awful chain run by accountants.

There is always a warm welcome at the Red Lion, the food is well cooked and traditional and always served efficiently and hot. The beers always seemed well kept and there is a nice garden to the rear that has some facilities for children which is always nice on a warm afternoon. Most major sporting events are shown here so always good for a big match.

LOVELY AS ALWAYS 6 couples and 3 kids. Lovely starters, gorgeous mains and only 2 managed desserts!! Good wine and beer selection. Friendly staff. Don't let the locals put you off they are pleasant

We were stuck in traffic for ages so pulled in for a drink then decided to have dinner.Been a few times with family and friends and have always had lovely food, tonight was no exception. Lovely staff and great choice. Keep up the good work

This is a traditional pub I can imagine it was once a very smokey location. We popped in for a quick bite on the way to the airport as it was far more appealing than the fleet services. Food was tasty (ham chips and eggs) and scampi. It was fresh and straight forward. Barman was very helpful and friendly. Dogs are welcome. Would I make a trip to visit no but if I was nearby and wanted lunch I would go in a flash.

This isn't a pub I would take my family out to eat in, the garden is tired, the benches and tables are rickety, the food is average at best.I was greeted by the server who asked if I wanted chips, when I replied I didn't she said "Well you look like someone who likes chips", I wasn't sure what she meant and can only think she was referring to my belly.Let me tell you lady, my fat belly has nothing to do with eating unhealthily, it is down to the amount of beer I consume, nothing else!

Lovely family run pub with landlord and landlady very welcoming. Can be rather a male dominated place if important sport games are on the TVs. They welcome children and dogs. Nice outside garden. Food is ok, recommend the Sunday roast, great value for money.

Sat in the conservatory with wine chatting decided to order food. Great selection if light bites and main dishes. Lovely patient friendly staff. Pub was busy but food didn't take long and was delicious. Show lots of sport here too. Definitely worth a visit

We went the Red Lion yesterday (24/01/2016) because we were visiting some friends who live in Lightwater and they'd booked a table there for Sunday lunch. All five of us had roast dinners - four beef and one pork - and they were all excellent. We didn't have to wait long for our orders to be taken, the food was delivered in a reasonable time and all the meals were delicious.We all went for the bread and butter pudding after and that too was excellent.This is a real pub, the sort you wish was your local and we will definitely go back.

The only pub in Lightwater, serves a good selection of beer and offers Pub food of a reasonable standard. Good garden for kids

We went as a family, without booking. The location was ideal for our afternoon walk and although it was very cold, there is also an area outside for the kids to play.I has a Sunday roast, which was lovely. The kids had something from the kids' menu (nuggets) and my wife had a jacket potato. All of it was well cooked and tasty. We'll certainly go again.

Very friendly, excellent for kids as a great play area. Staff were fantastic and it had a real local family feel. Food was good big menu and proper british food.

We stopped here on our way back from a weekend away, and were very pleased with our choice. The staff were lovely, the pub was friendly and the ploughmans was delicious. Good sized garden with a great looking play area. Would definitely recommend.

This was a brilliant trip to the Red Lion at first I thought price was little dear but I took that back quickly. Brilliant atmosphere, the food was huge! I had a great time with my friends and would strongly recommend anyone to go, I went for lunch and it was fantastic!
