We visited here a few times for Sunday lunch when our children were small. I remember the lovely atmosphere as they would have a trio of musicians playing trad jazz in the dining area & big chesterfield sofas to relax with a drink after lunch in the bar area. After having a wonderful afternoon tea back in January, my husband and I decided it would be a great idea to bring the family and grandchildren back here for Sunday lunch. We arrived early and enjoyed a cocktail in the bar prior to the lunch. However when we went into the restaurant the table was only laid for 6, and they said that they wasn't informed that it was 6 adults and 2 children. Now reception were very keen to take our deposit back in January, I also had an email confirming the numbers for the booking, so I'm unsure as to why the information hadn't been clear to the restaurant, but mishaps happen and that's ok. After this the only word I can use would be chaotic, I'd have been quite happy to return back to the bar and have another drink whilst they sorted the table, instead we were just sort of standing there. Once the table was laid, we sat down and was offered water.....I then wanted to find out how the menu worked with the children but I felt trying to catch the waiters eye was quite difficult......we then wanted to order wine for the table but again this proved to be quite difficult. It wasn't very busy either. I'm sure if they had a good front of house/maitre d' these little problems could be easily rectified. When we had settled, our waiter turned out to be friendly & funny. On the plus side it has a relaxed atmosphere, was lovely for the children. The food was delicious, although the roast wasn't hot when it was served at the table. They had a pianist playing in the bar area but you couldn't really hear it in the restaurant. It reminded me of being on a cruise ship & I'm not sure if this is positive or negative ....... Maybe we will pop back for a drink on the terrace in the summer.....

Seven of us went yesterday to the Hillfield restaurant which we have visited for so so many years. My husband and I were there for Sunday lunch 2 weeks before but I decided to ‘save my review’ until now. The food and service was as usual superb and we again had a lovely time. We always really look forward to our Sunday lunch at the Hillfield. There have been quite a few changes over the years particularly re the way the main course is being served yet the quality remains as high as ever! The only thing I still can’t get used to is the manner in which the coffee and teas are being served but as the food and staff are so brilliant…….we are already looking forward to our next visit!

We dined in Hillfield whilst staying at the hotel. Kannika was brilliant and looked after us so well, attentive and personable! The food was brilliant with lots to choose from, I went for a selection for the snacks to start and then the monkfish for main which was perfectly cooked. My wife had the tartare and pork to follow. Thank you for a lovely evening!

What an absolute shambles! Went to Hillfield for 'Special Christmas Sunday Lunch' - cost £65 per head. The service was very slow and delivered by staff who would have been out classed by McDonalds. Our waitress was rude, not attentive and showed very little interest in delivering any type of service - to cap it off she disappeared totally before we'd finished, leaving us with another equally challenged team member. The food - a total rip off. Starters were 'self-serve' - not a wide choice and mediocre in quality. Mains were 'served' about an hour after our starters were eventually cleared. Delivery of the food was 'canteen style' - the fish option had literally one sliver of carrot and one of parsnip and a dried our fillet of white fish appox 3 inches by 2 inches. The meat was a bit more generous. Vegetables were standard fair and served in small dishes. Desert was 'self-serve', poor quality, looked like it had been sitting under lamps for a while. Self-serve coffee was like diesel. The best part - the bill took 30 mins to arrive - when it did the team had charged us for 2 glasses of Champagne that we didn't order [2 x £18.50] and had added a 13.5% Optional service charge for terrible service. All in all the meal was unbelievably bad - this is a 5 star hotel that delivers terrible food and adds items to your bill, plus tops it up with an unwarranted service charge. AVOID at all costs and go to the very good local pubs in Windlesham - lower in price, better service and far far better food.

I feel I must write to express my disappointment with the 60th Birthday treat dinner for my wife at the Hillfield restaurant. We had been looking forward to enjoying good food for her special day. The dining room itself was quite bland with no atmosphere. The waiter was nervous, inexperienced and had no idea of the menu or what drinks the bar stocked. He asked what we would like to eat before taking any drinks orders. We had a wine list but no other drinks menu so the waiter was back and forth to the bar to see if they stocked what was asked. (my wife ended up with a plain gin and tonic as it was getting ridiculous how many times he had to check if any of the flavoured gins or tonics where stocked - it seems that they weren't and did not attempt to offer any suggestions at all) The bread was delicious, the starters were sparse, the chips were soggy, one of the steaks was quite tough and the accompaniments barely visible. All in all a disappointment. We made a decision to not even bother with dessert. Although I had stated that it was a special birthday no effort had been made to make my wife feel special. I am afraid that my wife's 60th birthday shall be memorable but for the wrong reason.

Excellent food, excellent service. We had crab followed by lobster and it was cooked to perfection. Friendly and accomodating service and a good wine list. What more do you need?

We again had the most superb sunday lunch on the 14th at our favourite Hillfield restaurant with the usual impeccable service! For some reason I have had problems posting my review but felt compelled to keep trying given the consistency of the quality of food and service which never ceases to amaze us! Our family has been visiting Pennyhill for many many years during which time it is constantly evolving yet never losing sight of the quality of service…..although we had not met some of the staff members, they couldn’t do enough for us so again a huge thank you for making our Sunday lunch such a wonderful experience!

Beautiful setting for a restaurant overlooking the grounds of Pennyhill. Although the restaurant is quite big and busy you did not feel overlooked which was nice. Food was delicious - we had the Chef Nibbles to start and the pork plate to share. Presentation was perfect and tasted fabulous. Service was amazing and we couldn't fault the hard work of Laura who was very attentive and passionate about her work. Amazing work Laura. Great experience and will definitely be going back.

My family have enjoyed a great birthday lunch , the food was lovely, staff were polite and efficient. My only negative was the absent whippy ice cream machine however I did manage to devour my share of desserts. Hope to return before too long.

This was our second time here and it was just as good as the first time if not better. Our waitress for the night (Lara) was brilliant and made our experience perfect. It’s nice to see someone so young take so much pride and have so much awareness in what she’s doing. Thank you to the whole team for another fantastic experience, and we are already looking forward to visiting again soon.

Beautiful building, wonderful staff but some of the worst food I’ve ever eaten. In total honesty I ate almost none of it. I’m not one to negatively review places light heartedly - I understand it directly impacts the businesses reputation and through that the staffs employment, but Its hard to put into words how terrible our recent meal was, and think it’s fair given the cost to at least inform others… This wasn’t a Sunday lunch, or a groupon voucher, we were legitimate table of six, booked in for a brithday meal 7:30pm. We would’ve said something sooner but for starters we had bread and pork belly which actually was quite good, but the trio of single potato was immediately picked up on as being over salted by the entire table. We thought mistakes happen and aren’t particularly fussy so didn’t say anything and ordered our mains. 50 day aged steak sharer, monkfish, truffle pasta, chicken, potatoes - all so over salted it was impossible to eat. The truffle pasta was literally inedible, the majority of the steak sharer was left on its wooden block despite being well cooked and clearly a good cut of meat. The monkfish was also untouched. It was all awful - any person could taste any of the dishes and say… that’s just terrible. What’s baffling is that the ingredients are good, they’re beautifully presented and hot, then just before the dish is brought to your table it’s like someone has grabbed a genuine handful of salt and lashed it over every single dish. Has no one on the staff tasted anything? The young manager came over and apologised sincerely and professionally and offered us a 10%tipped well because the service was quite good, but truly a birthday meal to remember - we’ll be laughing about this one for years to come

Pennyhill is a superb venue a beautiful setting unfortunately the new food arrangement has made the offering poorer. previously it has been a full carvery type service now it is that for the starters and dessert but table service for main course. As result there’s a very limited options for vegetarians and the main meal was delivered warm at best . Bearing in mind pricing is set for a premium product this is not great . Staff were extremely helpful but that doesn’t really compensate for a Luke warm meal

A beautiful hotel set in beautiful, manicured grounds, just perfect to wander around in all seasons. Despite being between Bagshot and Camberley it feels like you're completely in the middle of nowhere. Lavish, sumptuous, luxurious... all perfect words to describe the hotel & spa, including the bar & restaurant. The staff in the bar were really friendly and attentive, and the pianist was appreciated, setting the mood.

Hillfield is a solid resort restaurant, but we were a bit surprised by some of the wear. We had a delicious dinner at Hillfield. The mushroom soup and fish options were beautifully prepared. The server and accompanying staff were a bit young perhaps for a 5-Star establishment, but they were pros and did a fine job. The room is not super fancy. It doubles as the breakfast room. If you want a higher-end experience, book the Latymer for a Michelin starred meal. Our gripe is about the details. I've stayed at Pennyhill serval times for work and business travel. All the details are typically well attended. But we could not help notice that the carpet in the area where we sat was dirty and stained. It was a noticeable distraction when the Pennyhill is usually so proper and spotless. The devil is in the details PHP. We look forward to returning regardless.

We had a dinner bed and breakfast spa break at Pennyhill Park. After reading the reviews about Hillfield we had low expectations but we were pleasantly surprised. I had the chicken (photo) and it was delicious and the presentation was impressive. My husband had the steak and enjoyed that. We ordered the Eaton mess and millionaires pudding and the Eaton mess was not great and when our plates were collected the guy serving us asked how the deserts were and we said the millionaires was amazing but we didn’t like the Eaton mess (really strange texture, fluffy sand?!) and when we got the bill the Eaton mess had been taken off which was a nice gesture.

Note £30pp deposit, we booked, and no table was allocated also requested a highchair which we then had to request again. Food average, service friend but patchy, poured still water onto sparkling water and then didn't change the glass... not a place I'm afraid I would not rush back to..

Dined here last night as part of our stay at Pennyhill Park. I'm gluten free, dairy free and soya free. We informed them of my allergies with 3 months notice. We called 1 day before to check they were aware of the allergies and to check that they could provide me with the t-bone steak and confirmed ok. I was given a menu, the t bone steak was missing. I was told it's been removed from the menu, but I only called to say before!! They were not very allergy helpful. They did check with the kitchen, but was a lot of hassle. I was told gluten free bread was on the way, 10 minutes later I was told it has dairy in it so I couldn't have it. What GF bread has dairy!? They had 3 months to plan for this! Starters arrived and eaten... But still no drinks, so we had to chase for them. I ordered potatoes with my main. After the starters arrived I was told they didn't have any potatoes. So I ordered carrots instead. 🙄 Mains arrive and potatoes turn up. Thought they were out of potatoes?? Ordered a drink, had to chase again as it still hadn't arrived. It was very clear that they didn't have enough staff. Food was delicious. For £172, I'd expect a much better service and much better attention to allergies especially with the notice they were given.

Do not recommend for Sunday lunch. Firstly, we had multiple different people trying to take our drink orders, everyone seemed confused and not really sure what they were doing. It ended up us having to tell the waiters our order despite 3 different ones apparently processing this. The waiter also dropped cutlery on me twice, this happens so a mistake can be forgiven, but it felt to me none of them knew what they were doing or how to successfully manage a table. When our food arrived, it was luke warm at best, we were under the impression this was batch cooked and chefs were just dishing out on a conveyor belt or our food has been sitting out the back a long time, either way not the expectation we’d expect for a 5 star restaurant. Then came our puddings, the sticky toffee puddings again were not hot - I’ve never had a sticky toffee pudding which is cold. My partner also mid mouthful came across a small brown bean, seemed to be like a coffee bean or something similar, something that certainly wasn’t part of any of the the rest of the parties sticky toffee pudding. The part that let me down the most was the special requests I made. I specifically stated we were celebrating two birthdays, and despite all of us having puddings, sitting through a 3 course meal, nothing was done about this, not even a mention on arrival or leaving about the birthdays - it is like it was completely forgotten? A lack of thought and care. There shouldn’t be a special requests section if you cannot accommodate for this. On the bill arriving, it was incorrect. They had given us someone else’s table, we honestly sent this back and they came out with a new bill which again was incorrect! They had not deducted our deposit despite us paying £100 upfront. We ended up having to tell them how to fix the bill and again it then took 3/4 confused waiters to try work this out. Overall, we were all extremely disappointed with the experience, it was very expensive for the standard of food, quality and service received at a supposedly 5 star establishment and would not visit again.

I'm mostly impressed with the service here these days. The only slight issue that I have is that the top bar is now rarely open which means that if you're sitting up there, then you'll need to go down to the lower bar to order your drinks. That said they have a fairly young team that are hard-working, and they're all very pleasant and offer efficient service. The small bites have improved significantly recently, too. The buffalo chips, salt and pepper chicken and the wings are all reasonably priced and definitely tasty snacks. Green King has regular discounts that are worth keeping an eye out for, typically ranging from 10-20%. This is a great meeting place for small or large groups alike.
