What a little gem, visited today with our two black labs, before we even sat down our dogs were given a fresh bowl of water and treats 👍👍👍 food was just fantastic and a good selection of smaller plates just perfect for lunch, hubby had the pie (steak and ale today) and quite frankly he found it hard to cut through due to all the meat in it absolutely spot on, I had nachos with chilli which had a bit of a kick and was very very tasty, brilliant value and a great ambiance to the pub. Well done to you all and we will be back thank you for making our day ❤️❤️

After booking in person to accommodate dog a week ago. we arrived to find the table in use . It was fairly empty but no other tables suitable for dog. Told they don't book tables just allocate on arrival. Poor customer service. Looking at the food perhaps we had a lucky escape as it looked like stuff out of a microwave

Went for dinner again in the Red Lion, food really good and fantastic views of the River Dee and Wales whilst you eat. We had the ribs again but also tried the salt and pepper chicken to share to start - both very good. These are part of a tapas menu and have a deal if you order 3. We both had the lasagne and comes with fresh lovely salad and garlic bread. We both ordered chips on the side - I had chunky chips and husband had the fries, tasted great but for the money chunky chips portion was very small and great for me but doubt big enough for a hearty eater. Fantastic back drop as situated right on the prom at Parkgate and also have outside seating area too. Parking along the front of prom area. Great selection of wines. Service friendly and table service available.

Visited the red lion today 31st may Our second visit, last time sat outside as it was sunny, today sat inside, such helpful staff, warm and welcoming, nothing was a problem, my friend is a pain to eat out with! Doesn’t like veg or salad, asked for a cheese sandwich with no side salad, result! Gor exactly what he wanted , a great sandwich lovely thick bread an enormous amount of cheese and crisps, one very happy man. I had the ploughman’s platter which came with a wonderful salad containing pickled watermelon and pomegranate, delicious. Just before leaving went to the ladies, spotless, well done 👏👏👏plus free sanitary products, not needed but thankyou It’s my new place to go, well worth the drive from Liverpool for the friendliest service I’ve ever had in a pub, plus when paying the bill I was given some pickled watermelon to take home as I suggested feta cheese would be lovely with it

Visiting an old friend to celebrate New Year we decided to have lunch here for the first time since last year's re-opening. The staff were excellent, drinks and meals all served to our table and we all enjoyed our choices which were very good for the price paid, Three of us had the Curry of the Day, Chicken Tikka Masala, two had the Scouse one of which was served Gluten free. The portions were more than enough for a lunch but the curry could have been spicier and the Scouse (made with Beef rather than Lamb) could have been a bit thicker. Drinks were all good value for money especially one of the draught beers Neck Oil. Total bill ,including tip, came to £80 which we were more than happy to pay.

The four of us were shown to a table and were pleasantly surprised to have drink orders served rather than queue and collect from the bar as in many other such establishments. We were slightly wrong-footed by the "Small Plates" heading on the menu but were assured that, in spite of this, portions would err on the generous side. And so it turned out. Four good orders of fish and chips were received and despatched and enjoyed. Service throughout was cheerful and helpful. The pub has undergone recent alterations but still retains character though general ambience could be improved with some measures to control noise levels when busy. All in all a good choice for lunch.

We went here for lunch, today. I've walked past this pub many times but I've never been in but on the recommendation of my mum we booked a table. I'm so glad we did as this is one of the nicest pubs I've ever been to. The actual pub itself is a quaint, beautifully decorated building. We sat in the window and I think we had the best table as the view at Parkgate is so interesting. The food choices were excellent; plenty for me as a vegetarian, and everybody in our party was happy, even the extremely fussy 12 year old. I ordered from the light plates tapas menu and everything I ate was delicious. Especially the cauliflower wings. My son had not one, but 2 portions of the BBQ ribs and he said they were the best. The staff were so friendly and helpful and were happy to ensure that anything resembling a vegetable was not added the fussy 12 year old's food. First class service! I can't believe we haven't been here before but we will definitely be back again soon.

We visit here quite often. For us,it’s the place to be in Parkgate. Lovely welcome every time Decor is fab, lots of history dotted around the pub. The food menu is small, but plenty of choice. Lots of beer choices, some nice guest ales on tap. Lovely “secret garden” accessible via the rear end of the pub. Plenty of seating at the rear and lots of shade for those who need it. Nice place on the river after walking the wall. Food choices are limited as in sandwiches, but. The quality is excellent. I would highly recommend the ham and cheese. The ham looked like it had been carved off the hock and I surmise the cheese was Cheshire with a cup of tea, very tasty. The selection of cakes etc, was better, it's a pity I don't have much of a sweet tooth.
